the memories of Thomas in digimon data squad were just depressing. Especially the climax of the episode. it even turns a previous filler episode earlier in the series into a kinda sad kinda what could have been episode involving thomas. They should have also listed both deaths or near deahs of Both beelzemons (Tamers and Fusion)
SO TRUE. Reboted especially cause Tentomon could have saved his memories but didnt to spare his friends form the virus (his last satd essentially). Thomas memories especially for how the rational and usually stoic Thomas near completely loses it after essentially try to sacrifice himself to save his mother, just to remember that no, he is just inside his memories and get to relive the worst momment of his whole life; and Kennan's death of his mother too, especially after what happenedso he could get there, AND THE DEATH OF MERUKIMON (esentially Kenan's adoptive father)
@@ianr.navahuber2195 actually if you must pick up one scene from Digimon Tri, to me the saddest scene of them all was Patamon asking TK to kill him. That had me sobbing!! I never imagined seeing a digimon asking his partner to just kill him. That was a big mind fuck. I just kept wishing Patamon wasnt infected but when they finally have the talk... that broke my heart.
I dun know those scenes, but what makes the death of Puppetmon so sad, is you realize that had things just gone differently for him, had he discovered friendship, things would have been different for him.
Digimon had such a great story line in each season and some heart wrenching and uplifting scenes. It can really make you laugh, cry and wonder. Great show.
The tamers ending by far the saddest ending. The fact that Henry's dad knew the only way to save the world was to sacrifice the Digimon and that he hide that from his son. Plus he had to slowly watch the Digimon de-digivolve. Plus gilimon's "you promised", with them not knowing if he could keep that promise. So heart breaking.
The moment when Patamon asks T.K. to kill him if he becomes a threat to the others was certainly one of the most depressing things to ever watch in an anime.
I'm glad that most of this list is from the Adventure series, but your honorable mentions needed to have more. What about Kouichi from Frontier, he was an antagonist when introduced only because he fell down the stairs on his way to the train that took his twin brother to the digital world. He accidentally entered the digital world through his comatose state, and while the entire series happened his body was fighting for his life. Kouichi didn't know any of this until the digimon they were fighting revealed that he is just a spirit without a body, and Kouichi then believes that means he is dead in the real world. The series ends with the digi destined running into the ER while the doctors are trying to resuscitate Kouichi. He lives, but that whole story was tramatizing, how could it not be mentioned. On another note, why is the only mention of Jeri from Tamers is when Lemon dies, that deserves it's spot on the list but Jeri's whole story is depressing. The sweet girl is mentally destroyed and she is possessed by the D Reaper that took advantage of her sadness, grief, and depression. Her whole story arc deserves a mention at least. I can think of many other moments through out Digimon that should have seriously filled the honorable mentions with more moments. This show always had some emotional catch or turmoil that its characters were dealing with at all times even before they went to the digital world and it was problems we could relate to as kids that still hurt as we remember them in adulthood. That's what made this show powerful.
MyMeganMe Ken's whole breakdown after losing wormmon is gut wrenching. All he wanted was to escape the pain of the real world and when he found out he was the cause of so much, it just broke him.
quijano89 Agreed, I don't disagree with what was put on the list I am just saying the honorable mentions should have had much more. Digimon has so many sad moments across every season, I believe a list like this should have mentioned more moments.
Both Beelzemon's deaths/near deaths diserved mentions too. plus Ken's FULL past, the Numemon's death, Thomas' memories and the death or Meruchimon (Kenan's essentially adoptive father in Data Squad)
Season 3 Beelzemon trying desperately to break into Jeri's prison and finally getting through only for Jeri to not make any effort to try and get out is the #1 saddest moment in the history of this series and you didn't even have it listed as an honorable mention.
no. but he used his rival Leomon's attack. then, when the ball closed up again he kept on *sniff* hitting it and *sniff* trying to free...i need a minute
Number one for me was in Digimon Tamers when Beelzemon tries to free Jeri from the D-Reaper to try and make up for the fact he killed Leomon. Beelzemon manages to break through using Fist of the Beast King, but Jeri is so traumatized about it she refuses to grab his hand, non-verbally saying that she doesn't forgive him. That scene just tears me to shreds.
tell that to the strictly Pokemon fans always saying "Digimon is like a walmart version/off brand version of Pokemon". And im sorry but as I like both too, sure the games of Pokemon were way better, but the anime of Digimon was sooo much better then Pokemon.
antoehr soul who thinks that. for some reason, frontier is my favotire season, i admit they wasted the opportunity of fusion spirits for everone but is still my favorite. Koichi especially for showing something the real darkness and especialy for enduring all that.
Ok. I disagree. Frontier in my opinion is the worst seoson of digimon, since I don't acknowledge the existence of anything following Data Squad, with the exeption of Tri. can you tell me what someone who liked the season liked about it? I am genuinly curious.
tamers goodbye was the hardest for me to watch. it made me cry so bad to the point my parents took note that i was depressed. by far the strongest emotions i have ever felt watching an anime.
One of the reasons that Digimon is better than Pokemon is that Pokemon has no real stakes. Pokemon has an immortal 10 year old starting a journey becoming a better(?) trainer to defeat the championship tournament and become a Pokemon Master (whatever that means), and when he gets to the tournament, there is some bullshit that stops him from winning. This would be fine for the first two story arcs, and then have him win at his third try or something. But, every time he starts a new journey, he pretty much forgets everything that he has learned and starts over. This takes away any depth or consequences in the show. Even when they try to add stskes (usually by adding a Legendary Pokemon or two) they're just there for the spectacle. At least in each story arc of Digimon, there are consequences (I'm not talking about the actual death of the Digimon - they are reborn through conversion of data).
But Pokemon is much more successful than Digimon it has a lots of movies and last year their is also a pokemon movie a live action film of Pokemon.... Wonder why Pokemon is such a hit?
@@Yazmarohma42 it cuz kids have no taste in wat they watch, so they blindly just like pokemon, and everything else that has even the slightest resemblance to pokemon, they call a ''Ripoff''. i mean seriously, someone said that BEYBLADE is a ripoff of pokemon?!?!? like wtf?!? HOW IS BEYBLADE A RIPOFF OF POKEMON!?!?!?!? ITS NOT EVEN PETS ITS BEYBLADES?!?!?!?
One of the saddest things here is looking at that jetix symbol...i really miss hetix.. Thats what got me into anime and power rangers...i wish it would come back.. I think only one place still airs jetix now which is sad to me.. It really breaks my hear Edit: i cant believe they did not put patamon sacrific for TK on here that had me balling for a long time
Puppetmon was my favourite Dark Master, and I do recall feeling sorry for him when we see he ultimately dies friendless. Looking back now, they should’ve considered redeeming him instead of killing him off.
I mean he came back...with memories and everything. That is one of the reasons I found only Tamers leomon sad. Because that was the one that didn't come bck. So the sacrifice had weight.
leomon died in every single season XD when i saw his appearance in digimon tri i knew it wouldnt last long, its not even sad anymore :/ but i agree that his death in season 3 was the worst, just because we see a fully mentally destroyed little girl afterwards u.u the reboot in digimon tri killed me too, it was sad to watch how the digimon spent their last time with their partners knowing that they would loose their memories, that hurt me the most so far in season 7
I'm a 17y/o high schooler and I love Digimon with all my heart. Istg I cried and bawled my eyes out during all of 50+ episodes of Digimon Adventure and 20+ episodes of Digimon Adventure Tri 😭💔 The reboot scene and all Takeru knew Patamon being infected scenes had me wailing. I still cry whenever watching those scenes
I´m really happy that the german dub which is known to take a lot from the english dub (especially names) skipped the soundtrack. We only had those for the original movie. The soundtrack we have is the actual japanese one with german translated lyrics which made the lat episode of Adventure as heartbreaking as the origininal japanese.
Guardevoirgirl is right. Leb deinen Traum is amazing (as opening theme and as slower version). Well, the general German OST of Digimon is really great. :D
I agree. Even knowing that the epilogue was canon and that it was only temporary was hard. Especially since they went almost three movies without any memories of their adventures.
Tamers ending is best. It is as all endings ought to be: short, sad but with a smidge of hope. I am not a cryer. I watched "Fault in our stars" and didn't water up, but tamers ending had me crying every time. Counting six right now. And preperation does not help.
I whole heartedly agree with number one. I had a feeling it was coming, and I found myself starting to cry. I grew up with Digimon to this day I still love them. I've seen all the series I still love the first one the best and I used to know all of the digimon from the first 3 seasons.
maybe it's because i'm growing up with the german version but the English one is really ...... unpleasant, especially your songs are so unfitting most of the time
It is because of the tone and the music, you don't even need to understand the lyrics(my country got them with the original, untranslated songs in japanese), I didn't understand a single word they said, but yet, the music was so emotional! It really conveyed the tone of the scenes! The Digirap is ungodly awful and seriously, I find it extremely hard to believe that US children could find the ending of Digimon Adventure sad with that song.
Puppetmon's death in Japanese is even sadder. Not only does he never get his answer, it's creepy with his voice getting lower as the gears slow and stop.
Something that was really inspiring in original series of Digimon was the friendship between Tai and Izzy, I just loved how supportive they were as friends.
To add to the beginning of #8: Kari WRECKED me right from the beginning of this ep, she felt that she would burden the rest of the group and “slow them down” from being sick and she had NO reason to feel like that 😢
Im really surprised that the movie moment where Tai and Matt phased into the computer to be by their digimon when nearly obliterated. I mean sure... it led to one of the best moment in the movie with Omnimon, but that whole scene was incredibly gut wrenching.
With Kari's incident it hit me hard as a 10 year old because I have medical stuff that caused me to be in & out of hospital, so I empathized with Tai & Kari. I'm also writing a fanfiction which the main character has severe medical conditions and when she's in hospital both Tai and Kari have flashbacks of Kari's incident & they tell the main character this.
I agree with you on this list when I was growing up I saw this episode firsthand when the season ended and made me cry a lot to this day it still feels me with sadness and brings tears to my eyes and it reminds me that we all have to eventually say goodbye to ones we care about friends family loved ones like my mom and dad and sister
Wizardmon and Wormmon's deaths are particularly emotional. Both of them endured so much for the sake of a friend they loved and wanted to save from evil influence.
I do think confession is one of my favorite moments...and I've been watching this show a LONG time! The fact that tentomon fought off his infection, took on all this friends, including one mega, but he managed to go mega and hold meicomon at bay and STILL bring everyone back to their senses before walking to oblivion. That's hardcore.
I wanna point this out in regards to Wizardmon's death. In Digimon Adventures 2, it was revealed that due to dying in the real world and not the digital world, Wizardmon was unable to reincarnate as a Digiegg, and remained as a ghost haunting the building nearby the area of his death.
I feel #1. Final farewell of Digidestined Tai and Yamato from Final adventure kizuna #2. First season ending and death of wizardmon(draw) #3. Death of Oikawa, Blackwargreymon and death of Leomon (Draw). Digimon is the only show which shows happiness and emotions real enough
Wait how was the Reboot number 10? That was freaking soul destroying to no end. I mean that music, the emotion, Tentomon's speech. How wasn't that in the first 3?
Honestly I say the time Beelzemon tried to save Jeri (in Tamers) in an act of redemption and her rejecting his help out of fear and depression was soul shattering to see his shame. I think it could have at least made the honorable mentions.
Screw you WatchMojo. The saddest scene hands down is when Wizardmon reaches for and then passes through Gatomons hand before saying he’s sorry and leaving Kari and Gatomon crying as the episode ends.
so sad they dont mention it. Leomon was revived in Adventure to be killed but Wizardmon remained as a ghost. we dont even know if the reboot roked on him, and if it did, it erased everything about him
well seeing as it was never canon in the creators mind and mostly English dub exclusive only its not that sad..also a blind person could see sora choosing matt...the question was will he reciprocate...taichi was always her buddy not love interest...hes cool and she likes bad boys and they bond and both get emo...the creator wrote them to like each other ..it was obvious
I'm honestly surprised the sacrifice of Angimon wasn't on this list. Patamon was the last one to finally digivolve and then sacrifices himself to beat Devimon. Yes he comes back as an digiegg, it still was one of the saddest moments in the Digimon franchise.
The english soundtrack for Digimon just takes so much emotion away from the franchise. At least in latin america we got the japanese soundtrack pretty much unchanged.
First time Leomon dies = Heartbreaking Second time (Tames) = Meh Third time (X Evolution) = Forgettable Fourth Time (Tri) = Annoying. Just stop already.
Nope I nearly cried my eyes out when he died in Tamers. Especially because I liked Jerry as a character and was happy that she and Leomon became partners after they had a lot differencies. And then Leomon is killed and D-Reaper can use Jerry without any resistence.
For me any of the moments where the protagonist pushes their partner too far resulting in the dark-evolutions is fairly sad for me because of the end result of the rampage, a relationship destroyed by rage Tai letting his desire for power getting the better of him turning Greymon into SkullGreymon Takato letting Beelzemon's hunger for power unleash the rage of Megidramon Marcus angry at Thomas' supposed betrayal forcing ShineGreymon into Ruined Mode
Surprisingly little Tamers content, and a surprising over abundence of Adventure/02 content. Come on, Tamers was full of a *LOT* more heart wrenching scenes. There's Henry's backstory with Terrerimon, Henry and Jerri's Dad torn with guilt for the role he inadvertently plays in creating the monsters that his children fight, Yamaki's obsession with Digimon costing him everything, Rika and Renamon splitting up after Ice Devimon. And in the movie "Runaway Locomon" there's Rika's song and memories of her father.
my top 10: 10. All of Kizuna (the Morphomon flashbacks and the final moments esepcially), 9. Deckerdramon's death in Xros Wars. 8. Ken/the former Digimon Emperor switching sides in Zero Two. 7. Flashbacks to Kurata doing the genocide thing, especially Frigimon's death in Savers. 6. Chuumon's death in Adventure '99. 5. Koichi/Loweemon's Sacrifice in Frontier. 4. BlackWarGreymon's sacrifice in Zero Two. 3. Wizardmon's death in Adventure '99. 2. Bokomon's death in Ghost Game. 1. Leomon's death in Tamers (honorable mentions to Oikawa's final moments in Zero Two, Beelzemon and Damemon's deaths in Xros Wars, Megadramon's sacrifice in Tri, Kari's Illness in Adventure '99, Rebooted in Tri, Goodbyes in Adventure '99 and Tamers,
