Since my last version is quite out of date, figured I'd update it!
Top 10 gathered from friends and the kind people from r/metalgearsolid - check 'em out!
Sorry for all the delays, Final Cut Pro X is a bitch to finalize things with. Seriously, 2 weeks worth of delay was just because of it's silly magnetic timeline. Also gathering all this footage and music took forever. But it all doesn't matter cause it's done! Switching to the CS6 collection meow.

Also Naomi isn't in it cause she's a bitch. Seriously, she tried to kill you like 50 times and slept with Otacon just to get that data stuff.

For me, the microwave part is the saddest part. How the hell an old man walking through like this and in the meantime, Raiden, Meyrl and Johnny fighting to the end to protect snake against those incoming enermy. And when Otacon answer Sunny's god damn question " Snake had a hard life, he needs some time to rest". That's really touching

How can you miss out Snake's walk into the microwave. The one in MGS4 where he's slowly getting weaker and finally ends up crawling just to reach the end... That was sad. However I agree with number 1. The Boss' death was the single most saddest moment in video game history.
@TheNonshalanto
@TheNonshalanto 11 лет назад
Big Boss is technically evil. 1999, Zanzibar Land was his most evil yet. He cannot imagine a world without war and wishes for war to always exist. Big Boss knew that he had 2 (& later 3) sons and wanted nothing of them and considered them abominations. He knew that the new FOXHOUND recruit was David and gave him the codename SNAKE and sends him to Outer Heaven thinking he will fail & die.

Great video but you missed some moments: Raiden telling Rose he was a child soldier, Olga's death, Raiden saving Snake from Outer Heaven, Ocelot's death, the microwave scene, and even Raiden meeting his son for the first time were sadder than Chico's rescue. Please make a video in 2015 including events from Ground Zeroes, The Phantom Pain, Revengeance, Metal Gear and Metal Gear 2 (for example Sam's death in MGR, the destruction of Mother Base and Paz's death in MGSV, Snake realising Big Boss betrayed him in MG and Gustava's and Black Ninja's deaths in MG2) Though only 10 moments will be too little if you include so many games so probably it will have to be the 20 saddest moments in the Metal Gear series.

I played MGS 3 several times, now, and when I was younger. But I am still confused about what The Boss did. So she actually had good intentions, but had to act like she betrayed her country? MGS is confusing to me.

Fitness Gamer Not to mention the Metal Gear Series all started w/the death of The Boss at the hands of her last disciple Naked Snake who would later be named Big Boss. If she wasn't killed, probably the world would be a lot different and the Patriots would not have brought earth to the brink of ruin.

@ghavindeonarain396
@ghavindeonarain396 6 лет назад
Alright so this a 3 year old comment and you'll probably not see it, but none of these guys answered your question lol. Hatchyjack gave you half the story, that was her mission and her defection was a ruse by the CIA. However when Volgin blew up Grozny Grad everything went to shit. No one would believe that GRU colonel blew up something in his own country, and naturally the world would blame their Cold War enemy, the United States. Russia would start WWIII in response. Therefore they needed a scapegoat. Naked was then sent on Operation Snake Eater so he could capture the Shagohad and kill the "rogue operators" who launched the nuke in the first place, those being Volgin and The Boss. But since the Boss was only in Volgin's unit in order to get the Philosopher's legacy on CIA orders, it was essentially a frame job. And she knew that and let Naked kill her so that the world would be spared WWIII.

This list is spot on for the most part. only change i would make is switching sniper wolf and emma around. Emma's death was infinitely sadder than Sniper Wolfs. Not just because she was a villain either (tho that is part of the reason) but mostly because theres not much to sniper wolf as a char. not much is known about her. she wasn't fleshed out as much as other more important chars in the game/franchise.

If a person came up to me and told me he or she could erase whatever set of memories I chose, I would most definitely decide to eliminate all memories and experiences of Metal Gear. Why? So that I can relive and experience the saga from scratch all over again... Especially the feels. I still get feels every time I replay any Metal Gear game (especially 4), but it's not like how it felt the first time... Like sex, I guess, the first time is magical (lol what a comparison). What can I say, any game that evokes these emotions out of me and temporarily removes my strong card definitely deserves a special place in my heart and my list of fave videogames. Needless to say, I am extremely excited for The Phantom Pain and the fresh set of feels and awesomeness it will bring, however, this feeling will still be there. I really wish I could experience it all from scratch again... And again... And again... This is good... Isn't it?

+GARP Floyd I've loved metal gear since the first mgs game. I've played metal gear and metal gear 2 but idk they'll probably be a lot better as a remake. the feels throughout the metal gear series are crazy. the phantom pain was a good game but a sub par metal gear game. the game was incomplete (if you beat it, you know exactly what I mean), the twist was.. okay. SPOILER ALERT for those that didn't best the game yet, it felt bittersweet being big boss. I mean it's like I was big boss, but I wasn't the real big boss, I wasn't the legendary hero, I was just me. And like, what happened to Eli, I saw the incomplete mission 51 but like, wow, way to not end a metal gear game. I noticed that people new to the series love the game, and diehard metal gear fans are disappointed. I loved the hours of cutscenes in all the previous games, I loved everything about metal gear. if it isn't broke don't fix it, because phantom pain is what happens when ya do that. don't get me wrong I still play phantom game, I like it as a game, I like the game play, but there are so many things missing that really turns off the die hard metal gear fans.
@MrPintoBeenz
@MrPintoBeenz 9 лет назад
Alec Bermes my feelings exactly, a great game, but not a great Metal Gear game. I actually found myself missing the cutscenes, but what I love about it is the gameplay. I had the same mixed feelings about the twist, in the form that I thought it was pretty good but lacking in Big Boss-iness hahahaha if that makes any sense. I hope they include the cut content, but seeing ad the whole Kojima/Konami thing happened, I dunno... But still, I keep playing TPP over and over cuz its a damn great game despite its story shortcomings, and I'm very looking forward for MGO3 :D (oh btw a note here: I played TPP on PS3 cuz sadly I cant afford a PS4 just yet, but still gotta congratulate KP for their great job on this port. It actually runs and looks pretty good despite the hardware limitations, Imma get the PS4 version afterwards and treat it like MGSV:TPP HD hahahaha ;P)

I personally think that Number 2 Should be number 1. This is because you, as the player, did not know very much about The Boss at all as a character, and so I didn't feel as attached to her as Big Boss. On the other hand, by the release of MGS4, you had already played as Big Boss, and you know and grow attached to his character, his choices, and what happened with The Boss. Because of this more emotional attachment, I feel as if Big Boss' death was a more memorable and 'sad' moment.

Once you think that Big boss is dead, The 3 from Les Enfants Terribles are dead,( Aside from Old Snake, who isn't going to fight, if he follows Big Boss's advice) Which leaves no one to continue the story with new chapters. So once they catch up to what happens in MGS 4, It's all over. After 27 years, it's been great, But that's not to say they wont have more great ones in the future.

The M.K.M. The Boss was a hero of WWII, test subject for the first man in space, burned most of her body and is unable to have children because of the radiation she was exposed to when the test failed, trained Naked Snake and developed CQC, sacrificed her reputation and defected to the Soviet Union in order to protect her country. She then fired a nuclear missile, the only thing she truly hates, at Russia in order to clean up any evidence and was killed by her own apprentice, naked Snake, in order to prove the innocence of the United States. She literally gave her entire life to the United States, in return she was branded a war criminal and the biggest traitor the US has ever had. Peace Walker was then built in her image with all of her memories and when it was about to launch nuclear missiles The Boss' subconscious took over the machine and forced it to drown itself so the nuke wouldn't be launched. From a writing standpoint I feel as if The Boss was a better character, while Big Boss did more directly to impact the world.
@ghavindeonarain396
@ghavindeonarain396 6 лет назад
See I love the Boss and in the lineage of Snakes for me it goes Solid, the Boss, Big Boss, Venom, but from a plot standpoint she's a device, not really a character. They give her a lot of cool accolades, but her character acts and develops only in MGS3 and the rest of the series are how the world plays out when various actors attempt to implement what they think her legacy is. I agree, the emotional complexity of her character is extremely compelling and I adore MGS3 for that, but ultimately she was still doing good things to protect her country and the world. The moral grey that makes a character compelling and interesting is entirely on Big Boss, since he actually does the killing and makes moral compromises. Solid Snake is manipulated until he chooses to buck the system and ultimately fulfill the Boss' true vision for the world. The Boss' function in the story is to be so ultimately good, misunderstood, maligned, and heroic that character's should be awed by her legacy in order to attempt to execute her will. The agency is with the successive characters.

i personally think the death of Big Boss in MGS4 is one of the happiest and most uplifting scenes, he finally manages to make his peace with both The Boss and Solid Snake, and dies smiling, having sacrificed his own life for that of his son - thus finding redemption after all that he did. His story is very Anakin Skywalker-esque.

MGS4 was like one giant sad moment. Solid Snake rapidly aging and dying, Otacon losing yet another person he was close with, seeing Shadow Moses in decay, Metal Gear Fucking RAY getting destroyed, EVA's death, Naomi's death, Ocelot's death after finding out his reasons for being "Liquid Ocelot" and his agenda from the very beginning, etc., etc. I'm wagering MGS5 will be tugging a few strings at the heart since it really is Kojima's last MGS game this time :'(

in my opinion number 8 was the saddest.There's nothing more sadder than a hero feeling like nothing for what he could of prevented

i love how it all ends the same way it starts not in game order i mean history it all starts with snake saluting the boss and it ends which him saluting her before he dies

I find that Big Boss's death is a hell of a lot sadder than The Boss's, because like EVA said, "Her debriefing endures only in your heart." Being the last person who ever knew about Operation Snake Eater, The Boss truly died for the last time with the death of Big Boss.

For me Sniper Wolf was No.1. Literally the first time any form of entertainment made me cry.

I miss Metal Gear Solid. I remember one day where I was playing a CQC only match in MGO and Eddy joined. Best moment of my life, lol.

In reference to "End of Act 3" in MGS 4... "So much happens in so little time"... Christ... that cut-scene was like 45 minutes! Yeah, that COULD be considered "little" by that particular game's standard... but it was HUGE!

I would have had Ocelot's death in there, and near the top too. His final "you're pretty good" is epic and sad at the same time. You're pretty good!..pretty........good...

ouldnt agree more with #1. it was not only sad but it was the reason of why the other 9 sad moments happened in MGS story

The Boss' death and the revelation of her true mission is so sad that the only moment that can top it is Big Boss' death.

R.I.P. Solid Snake. Rapid aging should have never triumphed over this hero.

Great choices! And I have to agree with you: even drop some tears in the end of the MGS 3, I cried a lot in the epilogue of 4, but the overall choice is sweet! "Snake...had a hard life." Darn, Otacon, don't say it anymore. ;___;

I honestly thought the Handshake/Hug was more emotional then the parrot part. Its showed how far Snake and Otacon had come since MGS1

The one moment that gets me every time is when that damn parrot goes, "Hal, Hal..." Lose it every time. Seriously though video was great.

Big Boss getting his eye shot out, Raiden crying when he is getting dialysized (that bit haha) Where Meryl nearly dies and Johnny gives her mouth to mouth, the marriage sequence possibly.
