You do know Sonic on the SMS wasn't a port? It was a game in it's on right. You shouldn't have half of the games on the list by that rule then as the majority were Arcade or Japanese computer ports.

The trouble with this channel is that it's usually rushed with a serious lack of research. No real love for what they do.

Yea... The Game Gear was a portable Master System, That's why the games where so similar. Any of those games that have the same name should have been included. Not like the Game Boy and NES which had night & day difference on every single aspect. Sonic for either vs Castlevania for either... That's all the proof anyone needs.

Mister RON! Well they only pay their script writers $30 a script apparantly, so they probably churn out crap, just to make anything of worth. But indeed, having a reputation for pumping out false facts will only come to harm them later on.

To be fair; in Canada seven means one. For this reason alone, Canadians refer to the numeral one in the states as the "Canadian seven."

It shows a lack of research to say that Sonic couldn't appear on the list due to imported Genesis titles being excluded. The SMS Sonic titles are NOT imports of Genesis titles at all, but completely different games. Come on now, guys. You can do better.

It's sad that few people, even "gaming experts" (cough), don't often praise SEGA for bringing arcade games home with levels and gameplay intact, despite the to-be-expected graphics difference. Shinobi and Double Dragon are 2 great examples out of many (NES players were forced to accept and defend the single-player, totally NOT arcade levels of Double Dragon).

The Sonic games on Master System were completely different games from their Genesis counterparts, not just ports. And even if you blindly go by name alone, there were still a few Sonic games that didn't have a Genesis "counterpart", so why he didn't make the list at all is honestly beyond me. Sonic Chaos would have been a great entry.

One thing that the SMS had over the NES was the colour palette, IMO. So much more vibrant and appealing. Wonder Boy 3 was probably my favourite SMS game back in the day. I think Power Strike is worthy of being on this list, it remains one of my favourite vertical scrolling shooters from the 8/16 bit days.

the SMS had many different games that got built in, it all depends witch version you got, if you open your console unit yould notice there are 4 or 5 different "versions" which refer to the different BIOS versions the early units had either a "Please turn off and insert a cartridge" message or snail maze/safari hunt which where SG1000 titles which is a japanese exclusive console BEFORE the master system hence their more primitive graphics. Hang on came after SM/SH and was the V3 bios after that Alex Kidd was the V4 but after '92 units could be found with a V5 bios containing Sonic 1, i have a Mk 1 SMS with a V4 denotion on the mainboard with Alex Kidd built in and a SMS 2 with sonic 1 Different countries my have had different pack in titles *Japan or Brazil* and dont take my words as gospel, reasearch for yourself for more answers

I felt like I was going rogue buying a used Sega MS during the Nintendo-era (I had an NES also). Buying it used, it came with a bunch of the previous owner's games, including Phantasy Star. The amazing thing was, they had left pages and pages of hand-drawn maps, notes and things they had observed. I played it through without using them so that I could have the challenge, but it was a huge treasure to get ownership of that person's hard work. The maps were incredible, in DnD style on graph paper with notes, and their notes were intricate to say the least. So...cool. Sadly when I went into the Marines my mom got rid of a bunch of that stuff when I was away. I wish I still had them or even track down who had done all of that. Must have been 1987 or 88, Powerplay in Aurora, Colorado.

I had a pawn shop Sega master system with about 10 games that my dad got us in the later 80s. I liked the hell out of that thing

Also... the dark thing that no one wants to remember is that nintendo used evil marketing ploys to further their products. I dont remember if they did this vs sega MS, but I DO remember they killed the atari lynx that was in direct competition vs the inferior gameboy. They did this by threatening to pull their products off the shelf anywhere that sold lynx stuff. Profit would have suffered, so sellers sold nintendo stuff instead of atari lynx.

+Teenkitsune No, you just have to have been a kid in the 1980s. I was a huge and very widely known console.Every kid had either a NES or a Sega Master System. Even more popular when the Sega Master System 2 was released, with the Alex Kidd built in game.
@teenkitsune
@teenkitsune 9 лет назад
Naughty Monkey I get what you're saying, and I'm not trying to argue. I'm just saying, only those who grew up with it or who are in the know actually know what a Master System is, today those who didn't grow up with it, most of them don't know this amazing system existed, but everyone knows what an NES is, even those born in 2002 know because of the cultural influence. Again, not trying to devalue the Master System as it was great, and I'm not trying to argue either. I'm just saying, as far as the current times goes, the Master System is virtually unknown, the Genesis/Mega Drive and the Dreamcast are SEGA's most well known consoles, nearly anyone can say they know what those are, but like the Saturn the Master System is known only to those who either owned/played it or those who are in the know.

@@TripleRp Monster land is amazing BUT way too difficult especially with the dumb time limit AND the maze at the end. It just ruins the experience. I have played it countless times since my childhood and only managed to get to the endboss once. I died of course. Have you beaten it? Wonderboy 3 is much better in my opinion. Perfectly balanced with a great learning curve and lots of neat exploring. On a side note; some underrated Sega Master System games: Rastan, Alien 3 (AMAZING game! creepy and fun game with tons of action and great music), Master of Darkness and Jurassic Park just to name a few

I have always considered the Master System to be one of the great, criminally underrated game systems. Apart from the games shown here, some other great games for the SMS that are definitely worth playing, if you can get a hold of them: Sonic The Hedgehog The Terminator Golden Axe Golden Axe Warrior Space Harrier After Burner Double Dragon Back To The Future ll Star Wars Predator 2

Sega Master System had such great graphics for its time. 5:13 Also, it was able to handle FM sounds (unless it's another version of the game on another system)? That's impressive!

I would've expected Miracle Warriors to be on the list, since it had such a massive world and the story was great.

Stopped watching after "no ports so no Sonic". The Master System Sonics aren't ports, they're entirely different games from the Mega Drive/Genesis titles. Then you start 10 with Fantasy Zone when, by the logic that excluded Sonic, the 16 bit Super Fantasy Zone should make Fantasy Zone ineligible. You just don't know your subject matter at all, do you?
@XxShilar
@XxShilar 9 лет назад
+SJ Webster A "port" of a game is where you take a game from one system, and put it to another. Sonic the Hedgehog was a Sega Genesis game, and was ported to the SMS (and soon after Game Gear) to gain more support for the system (and broaden appeal). Fantasy Zone STARTED on the SMS, and Super Fantasy Zone was a port to the Genesis. Sorry, but no comparison. My fave top SMS games (in order): Phantasy Star, R-type, Fantasy Zone, Golvellius, and Shinobi. The others well... not so much (yes, I have played Wonderboy III, and got stuck, so no I didn't like it).

+Shilar Sonic on Mega Drive and Sonic on Master System are totally different. They only share the same name and characters. That's like saying Sega ported the original Sonic to the XBox360 and it's called Sonic the Hedgehog 2006. Same title, two different games.
@XxShilar
@XxShilar 8 лет назад
+P Ferreira of course there are differences. There are differences between Mario 2 on the NES, SNES, and game boy advance, but they all are considered ports.
@pferreira1983
@pferreira1983 8 лет назад
Shilar I mean a totally different game. I'm not talking Mario 2 on Nes and Mario 2 on Super Mario All-Stars. I mean they're entirely different games with the same name. The only port the SMS version had was for the Game Gear. Same goes for the sequels like Sonic Chaos.

I had a Sega master system and loved it, I knew one other person as a kid who had one. I got a nes but always held the Sega in high regard. I had wonder boy 1&2 but never played 3 and remember getting phantasy star but never really understanding it at 6 or 7 years old.

Your knowledge of the Sega Master System is poor; Sonic 1 and 2 were not 'ports', they were different games in their own right from the Genesis versions (Sonic Chaos also didn't even have a Genesis version!). Alex Kidd also wasn't "included in all master systems", it was built into *some* Master System 2 consoles (Sonic 1 was the other game). The first Master System model had different games built into it, such as Hang On and Safari Hunt. Anyway, this is my list: 1. Micky Mouse: Land of Illusion 2. Transbot 3. Alex Kidd in Miracle World 4. Asterix 5. Lemmings 6. Alladin 7. Shinobi 8. Sonic Chaos 9. Bubble Bobble 10. Bonanza Bros
