Wow! I'm impressed with your selection, especially the Bigfoot Trail. I went to college in Eureka, CA, and I've never heard of this trail...it must be something new. It looked as if it starts in the Yolla Bolly - middle eel wilderness and goes through the Trinity Alps, Marble Mts, and the Siskiou wildernesses. I've hiked smaller trips in all of these areas 20 years ago, so I find this trail interesting.
Yea the Bigfoot Trail really popped on my radar back in 2019, I do not know for sure when they first recognized it as "complete". Even in the year since I found it, it really seems to have taken leaps and bounds in awareness, development, and people actually getting out there and thru hiking it. Granted there are still sections that are route finding but it looks like it only is continuing to become defined. The amount of wilderness and different areas it passes through really interests me too!
Been hiking the Allegheny Trail in my home state of West Virginia to prepare for a thru hike of the Long Trail. Thanks for making this video with the vacation I get a lot of folks like me are looking for the shorter ones.
I would suggest the Long Trail in Vermont. Great shelters and towns along the way. Be prepared west coast hikers, no switch backs and lots of climbing. It runs from the Mass border to Canada, about 270 miles or so. After this you will think most of the AT is a breeze.
@@ToddvsTodd Oops, did I say Ouachita Trail? I meant the Cumberland Trail. It will be a 330 mile hiking trail from the Cumberland Gap to Signal Point, TN.
Hate to be the bearer of bad news...but that was on the video before this one that we made....the Top 10 Long Distance Trails.....secret was out............. it looks beautiful! I will look into the Cumberland Trail as well since maybe the Ouachita is no longer a trail, lets go with that right!?
@@HikingAmerica yes, sadly this is true. No longer a trail. I will have to go back and check out your other video, as I seem to have missed it. Happy trails.
Have you hiked it before? I want to, 2021 so far is filled to the brim with 7,000~ish miles if current conditions permit, I do not think it will be able to fit in there, but hopefully 2022 maybe!
Thank you for this super informative video. I started hiking the AZT (800 miles) in March 2020 but got off due to Covid. I'm still going to finish the AZT but in sections by hiking and backpacking. I got the thru-hike bug with this trail yet at this time I don't want to dedicate months of my life to one trail. I was wondering if there were shorter trails I could thru-hike, so thank you.
Hi Allie, Yea the AZT would be a great trail to find the hiking bug, it would bite you pretty fast out there, when we did it in 2019 it still is by far one of our favorite trails systems. Understandable about the March date, sorry to hear about that!!! There are so many shorter trails out there that can be thru-hiked. Dedicating months to a trail is awesome, but also dedicating any time that is available to a trail is amazing too. Sometimes the shorter trails also condense the beauty into a chewable distance of miles, there are many benefits to shorter trail systems.
Your #1&2 are my #1&2. Multiple friends have done Wonderland trail and it seems awesome. The Winds I’ve just seen on RU-vid but looks so amazing. Realistically Sunshine Coast since it’s the closest... although Wonderland isn’t too far of the border opens. The Scottish one looks cool!
They are number #1 and #2 for a reason! The permits around the Wonderland are a nightmare of a headache, but the WRHR can be done anytime (not winter) so it makes it more easy to try and fit in somewhere.
I thru hiked the Larapinta Trail in 2016 and have some videos up on my channel from it. It's in the center of Australia and goes through the West MacDonnell mountain range from Mt. Sonder to Alice Springs and is 223 km (~139 miles). It was incredible...some of the darkest night skies I've ever witnessed in my life. The best time of year to do it is Australian winter so June-August. Also, I'm pretty sure you're eluding to the Nakasendo Trail in Japan at 534km (332 miles) for number 11. Peace man love the videos!
@@HikingAmerica Feel free to reach out if you plan to head down under…I can give you some tips…I lived there for a year after my AT thru hike in 2015 ✌️🤘
Sorry!!!!!!!!!!! The JMT of course would make a Top 10 list, but I feel it is so heavily saturated with everyone calling it the most beautiful, that is implied it is one of the top short hikes and did not need to be restated, wanted to spread the love around more to some other lesser known trails as well as ones that were near the top of our desired to do/done list.
