If Mike would have taken "Rock Your Body", it never would have been performed by jt at the Super Bowl and Janet never has to go through nipplegate.....wow
That whole wardrobe malfunction inspired the idea of RU-vid - which basically changed the Internet and streaming landscape. lol Funny how things work out.
aren't most of sia's songs rejected songs? 'cause she writes them for others, they rejected them, and then she was like, "wait, i'll just do it myself"?
Y'all forgot that Sia has written songs for all the big names like Beyonce, Rihanna, Gaga, etc... And when they were all offered "chandelier", each turned it down.
Really? I thought Sia never wanted to give up Chandelier because it was so personal to her. Or maybe I'm confusing that with Diamonds, which she eventually did let go.
Written songs for Gaga ? Absolutely not. Gaga writes all of her songs as well. She used to write songs for other artists before getting famous, like Britney Spears, Pussycat Dolls, Jennifer Lopez etc. She wrote Telephone for Britney and decided to sing it herself after Britney turned it down.
In fairness, Whitney Houston has a much stronger voice than Janet Jackson and while Jackson is a great entertainer, Houston's voice really makes "How will I know"
J.Maxinta ehh, there are terrible songs these days that have ranked number one, and the singer wasn’t even half as good as Whitney. Like I said, it didn’t get to number one for nothing other than her voice.
About Michael rejecting a song that went to Timberlake.. First of all Michael promoted Timberlake to the world, not the other way around. Michael was writing and composing most of his own songs from the age of 10 and this can be checked. He will always be someone to remember about and learn from. The amount of music that Michael wrote / composed and was left unpublished is much more than what is published.
Me too, Steven gives this song a special edge to it, he makes it sound so epic and heartfelt. I love that song and live the way Steven Tyler sings that song. It’s like it was si written for him
Mrs. Alsina I can, like they said it was offered in a slow reggae genre. I can totally picture Rihanna doing that. Not Minaj though, Minaj can fuck off. 😂
I'm glad that Janet Jackson passed on "How Will I Know?" I can't see Janet singing that song. "How Will I Know?" was the perfect song for Whitney Houston. I can see CeeLo Green singing "Happy". I can see Pink singing "Whataya Want From Me". That's a good song for Adam Lambert to sing.
If you had even a tiny clue of what you were talking about then you would know that Jessie J wrote the song. She did not turn it down, she wrote that garbage.......
+DjNude2010 " 'Party in the U.S.A.' was originally intended for Jessie J, but after deciding it was not edgy enough for her, they passed it to Cyrus and adjusted the lyrics to fit her persona."
When I was a kid I always thought Rock Your Body was by Michael Jackson, especially because I was like 6 and all my siblings played was that 2001 MJ invincible album. Rock Your Body always confused the hell outta me I thought it was part of his album. Glad to know it was originally for MJ and I wasn't 100% loosing it
Wow! How interesting! Fun fact another Neptunes produced hit was also offered to MJ... “You Don’t Have to call” by Usher. That was also supposed to be in Invisible as well
Yeah I don’t if that’s true because Kelly said that when she got the song it was really different... it was slow and really popish... so she added more guitars to the song and changed to a more uptempo sound...
As a Jackson family lover: 1. Can you IMAGINE if Janet actually sang "How Will I Know?" I can't even fathom it. I'm glad Whitney did it though. 2. They didn't mention that "Rock Your Body" was also the song that ruined Janet's career.
So much hate for singers who aren't songwriters. Just because you can carry a tune doesn't mean you can write songs and music well. And just because you are great at writing songs and music doesn't mean you can carry a tune. Let the two interact with each other and do what they do best. There are plenty of songs that I love that would never have seen the light of day if this symbiotic relationship didn't exist. Jesus Christ, its like bitching because a painter doesn't create his own paint!
No it's like if a painter was told what to paint. They claim to be artists. In a band the members take turns writing songs or they help with the writing process. A solo "artist" gets all the credit, makes more money than a bandmember, and doesn't even write their best songs. I don't know how many they write, but they don't create the ones that make them popular.
I had always heard that he wrote the song specifically for his daughter (Liv Tyler), who he didn't actually know about until later? Now it seems it was just random and he picked it for a movie soundtrack.
Since four of the ten songs in the video are made by the exact same Swedish producer (Max Martin), it's probably more about the songwriter behind the song than the artist.
Janet Jackson was not weak in 1986. ‘Control’ went multi-platinum, hit #1 and gave Janet 3 top 5 singles that year. And the reason she passed on ‘How Will I Know’ is because Janet actually writes her own music unlike Whitney Houston.
I didn't like the fact he came for her like that. The Control album was huge, it was an iconic pop culture moment in history. He's acting like she flopped or something
Actually I heard a different story, that the song was first written for Hillary Duff in 2003 ( which makes sense, because she was really popular back then) and she passed to Pink who didn’t like the song and eventually went to Kelly. Now, I don’t know if this high note stuff is real, because Kelly has said that the song was really different when it got to her.. it was slow bubble gum pop... so she had to fight Clive Davis ( who was producing the album breakaway) to change the song around to a more Rock sound with heavier guitars and a more uptempo rhythm...
moral of the story: Pink is always wrong in her song choices - Rihanna and Britney Spears are wrong half the time - and Pharrell’s songs are always rejected so he just decided to sing them better himself.
Here's more, though some weren't confirmed and remain just rumours: *Jessie J. - "Party in the USA" --> Miley Cyrus* *Rihanna - "Cool me down" --> Margaret* *OneRepublic - "Not to love you" --> Sean Paul* *Avril Lavigne - "Daydream" --> Demi Lovato -> Miranda Cosgrove* *Avril Lavigne - "I will be" --> Liona Lewis* *Avril Lavigne - "Breakaway" --> Kelly Clarkson* *Skylar Grey - "Love the way you lie" --> Eminem & Rihanna* *Ewa Farna - "Kto vic da" --> Hannah Montana - "Kiss it goodbye"*
Who thought baby one more time was a good fit for TLC, they were so strong and independant baby one more time is nieve and desperate, better suited for a teen Britney killed it. I hate to hear songs like that sang by grown women who should know better.
Telephone was originally written by Lady gaga for Britney. She recorded a demo, did another as a duet with gaga. Nothing became of it so gaga did the song as a duet with beyonce
_"There's no guarantee in Jackson version would have been as smooth as Justin"_ I kennat ! the whole ass song screams Michael Jackson style 😅😂 I remember the story that MJ declined the offer knowing it will be a smash hit so he tell Pharell to give it to NEW artist
uhhh... no!!! boy cant dance; not a gymnist ...not much of a song-writer or co-producer either! ...and not to mention making himself relevant or get a hit record or sell albums.
vocally, he is better than anyone in the music industry. his voice can do things you probably didn't even imagine. he used to have some things in common with Pink and Lady Gaga, but what you used to see, "the feminine guy who dresses weird, and acts strange" is long gone. he's given un on that persona for a muscled, bearded and macho man.
I don't blame Justin for taking a song meant for Michael Jackson, hell yea I'll take it lol. You mean Mike was going to sing it? Send it my way babbyyyy lol
+Queen Cherry Sweetheart it doesn't should like he's disrespecting Micheal. He's speaking as Justin in a glorified way. That Justin is thrilled to do a song that was written for Michael
I keep watching these junk channels and I enjoy watching them ! I am getting dumber I think :D I could read a book or study but no I should come here and watch some watchmojo videos !
I can't imagine Céline Dion singing "I Don't Wanna Miss a Thing". Steven Tyler sings it like it was meant for him. I mean, Céline's not exactly a screamer. Anyone with me on that one? I certainly would, however, like to hear Pink's version of "WhatayaWant From Me". I wonder if it has the same instrumentation as Adam Lambert's version. That'd be really cool if they sang it together. They could trade lines with one another, since I'm pretty sure it's a tune about two lovers choosing sides.
forgive me if I'm wrong, but "Disturbia" was written (not rejected) by Chris Brown, and later handed to Rihanna as he felt it to be better suited for a woman.
you missed two of the biggest hits in 2013. Wrecking Ball by Miley Cyrus was rejected by Beyonce and it sold 8.5 million. Also by Miley Cyrus, We Can't Stop was was rejected by Rihanna so Miley got it and it sold 5.8 million.
I am very glad Whitney Houston sang "How Will I Know" because I couldn't see anyone else singing that song! Kelly Clarkson's "Since U Been Gone" is iconic. No one else can sing that song.
If you didn't notice, some of these songs were actually written by the performers. Pharrell and Kanye, for instance... they just offered it to people they thought better suited the song but ended up doing it themselves when it was rejected.
They usually only play short snipet of songs, this video had them playing under the narration the entire time! So much better that way. Thanks MoJo, you heard us complain, and improved.
Britney spears 'hit me baby one more time' should be number one by far! I personally see her as big of a star status as Michael Jackson, Elvis, the Beatles to name a few. Not particularly from her singing talent so much but more so from her influence, her status, the legion of hardcore fans that she will always have. Even after so many years of controversies/odd behavior & lack of much new songs she still remains relevant & a worldwide household name that only few artist are blessed or cursed with. I'm not particularly a fan to me I like her but not that much but I can appreciate a living legend when I see one..I will admit one of my guilty pleasure songs is 'hit me baby one more time' i get a flashback of when I was really young & a nostalgia feeling when I hear & watch the iconic video clip.
no way is she as big as MJ. What kind of dope you smoking? You must be too young to realize how big he was. MJ recorded for 45+ years and won countless awards. His music spanned generations. People literally passed out at his concerts because they got so excited in his presence...boys and girls of all ages. He was top-tier icon...a phenom in his prime. He created the first long form music video. Some of his videos had world premiers and families including my own sat on the couch and watch together because it was such an event. There will never be another MJ...his music is unmistakable. Can't say the same for Britney Spears.
AussieBlokeGordo there’s many artists like Taylor Swift that are always writing their own, but there’s also classics like George Straight and Frank Sinatra that sing songs written for them. There are a lot of incredible lyricists that don’t have the voice or want a career as singers
this is not a new thing,,,, go do some research. Lots of musicians perform songs written by others,,, these people are called... song writers.. lol any how... yea this is not something that recently started lol
They still write their own songs though.. just a couple times ppl offer songs they thought up that they don't think they can sing themselves. and its not a kept a secret. Hence we know who passed up what song etc etc.
Even in the "good old days" there were plenty of artists who didn't write their own songs and sang songs written by others.. just because someone sings a song written by someone else it doesn't mean they're not talented. Also a lot of artists on this list have written songs too so.. I don't get your point..
It’s weird because with some tweaks I can see the songs going to the original artists that they were offered to but this just goes to show you when something is for you nobody else can take that away 👍🏾
She writes all the songs herself. What she does as her usual job is to write songs for other people, if nobody takes it she records it herself. A lot of songs have been surprisingly written by her, so she could probably have 10+ lists about her.
He still pronounces it wrong in a French accent. He says Sellin. The last ene should be shorter than pronouncing two e’s together in English but still make the same sound as E not I.
Actually, in French Canadian (where she is from and where I'm from) we pronunce her name exactly as he did, the Dion should more sound like Dzeeon, than just Zeeon. But for the Céline, we pronunce it just the same as he did.
@@AndeeOfficial thanks! I’m American and I’ve never heard it pronounced that way. I’m not even sure my tongue could move right to even make that sound, if that’s in fact her name.
out of all the songs that got passed around or rejected, my favourite is Kelly Clarkson's "Since You Been Gone". I just don't see Hilary Duff or Pink doing as good a job as Kelly.
tons still do.. Marianas Trench, Sia, Kesha, Adelle.. Even if you write your own music a lot of the time there are sometimes songs others have written that you fall in love with and want to record
+Malcolm “M.J. Cross” Joseph I'm not sure if you are being sarcastic or not. I thought you knew WatchMojo is a Canadian company but didn't know they decided to go the Quebecois route.
"Waiting For A Star To Fall" was rejected by Whitney Houston and Belinda Carlisle. "Everything I Do, I Do It For You" was rejected by Kate Bush, Annie Lennox, and Lisa Stansfield. "I Can Dream About You" was rejected by Daryl Hall and John Oates.
You Rock My World only charted at Number 10 because Sony dropped all record and single promotion. They then they later dropped the whole album altogether because Michael refused to tour for them. You have to admit, selling more than 10 million copies with semi and then no promotion is pretty impressive.
OMG, there were so many potential hits on that album. I always wanted why "Unbreakable," "Invincible," "Heartbreaker," "Heaven Can Wait," and "Whatever Happens" could have easily rocked the charts.
you are so right, I was mind blown by that one, but grateful it fell on aerosmith's hands 😍 I really can't imagine what Celine Dion would've turned that son into lol
From what I read they really didn't like the lyrics to the song, especially T-Boz who felt that the lyrics sounded desperate. And she felt that TLC would never tell a man to "hit them one more time." LOL! Overall, they REALLY did not like the lyrics. :)
Well not that Baby one more time was slutty, but it just wasn’t TLC’s style. They had songs that told more story and messages in them but also some that were more empowering which was not what Baby one more time was
its not even close to being their best song but the earlier stuff came out when there was so many other great artists compared to when this came out which was late 90s.
