I started to learn to sing at the age of 70. after my wife was admitted to a nursing home due to Alzheimer's Dementia . . When I became reasonably good with the help of my voice coach ,who ran the singing group at the local Alzheimers Group , I decided to learn how to play the guitar to accompany my singing having never ever played a musical instrument before. In my life . I stumbled across your website by pure accident and I am so glad I did! To me you are a natural teacher and there are not a lot of those about I can tell you having clicked on a few others along the way. So all I can say is"Thank you Justin".

Such a great teacher. Sympathetic, laid back attitude and so skilled. Started to learn guitar about 18 months ago at age 46 and stumbled over his videos. His beginners course was a blast. Just wanted to say thanks for all this, I'd pretty much lost hope of learning until I found Justins site but the course is so well structured, the lessons clear and well explained and the advice is all good, 3 months on I am genuinely feeling like I will get the hang of it. I think I was trying to run before I could walk before, but Justin gives you clear stages, both in the general course and the specific song lessons: I am now coming back to the early songs I learned and adding the difficulty and that allows you to see how far you have progressed in just a few weeks/months, it is a great way to deal with those (inevitable) times when it all seems too difficult. Justin is a fantastic online tutor; as a beginner I find the detail level , pace and accuracy of his lessons way in excess of anything else out there. His books complement the online materials really well and he keeps adding more video lessons on a regular basis. Thanks a lot that man!

If you really want to learn guitar you have given yourself the absolute best chance by finding Justin Sandercoe. I have been following JS for some time now and while I consider myself advanced intermediate, I keep coming back to Justin's lessons and never fail to learn something new. The lessons are completely free, but I choose to support Justin by donating .. just because he deserves it! Thanks Justin.

A lot of people out there offering 'free' lessons. These are usually attempts to obtain your email address, so that they can persuade you to buy their latest course. Justin's guitar lessons are totally free, and very easy to follow. I started as a beginner and quickly made progress with Justin. Strongly recommended!

Years ago when I started playing guitar and was too poor to pay for guitar tuition I started your beginners course. But small lessons like this were essential for me to keep it fun and keep me motivated. When you start playing guitar it is very important you get to play something fun or play along with some tunes. Your beginner's course did exactly that! I think your course is the reason I still play guitar today since I was triggered and motivated from the start. Thanks for everything. I started playing the electric guitar 2 weeks ago. I'm At Stage 2 now but probably gonna stay practicing only 1 and 2 for around 1 week along with a couple songs to make sure I'm good for stage 3. I'm a bit rough on money now but when I get better I will donate and get your books. Good luck everybody who is learning the guitar and never give up!

I sure wished I had your video to watch when I got my first guitar in 1977. The action was high and my fingers were in pain. Without the internet, the best I could hope for inspiration was a friend who knew a few chords. Always enjoy your videos - there is always something for everyone!

Work thru' the pain, exercise your fingers and wrist using finger or hand grips, do wrist curls with weights or resistance band but most of all work thru' it, and before you realise you'll be play'n all day. Also you'll get callouses at the finger tips.. a good thing, because strings no longer hurt when pressing or picking, if callouses cause slips, just use sandpaper, not too much tho', just enough or else you get string sore again. Good luck and good playing every one, this guy is a real excellent beginners tutor.

He was the first to do that ..now many do the same,..sing the notes as the lyrics a fantastic idea,..Justin just want to say ty,..you have inspired me no end,..and I am way up the scale as a guitarist now,..not the fast rubbish,..but the bluesy smoothe styles,..and I in turn encourage musicians to go further at the open mics I have run here and there,..and these songs are perfect for me,..because of the simplicity and (pop)..popularity of them,..I can get up start the evening with three chord songs concentrate more on the vocals,..and the overall sound ready for the guest acts,..(as I am the sound (man) engineer also,..I had no idea most of those were three chords except ..(for what it's worth)..so again ty. 😂 lol... 13:10 - 13:25 is me after 3 weeks of learning... heard so many say how easy the “a” chord ... wha! That index finger has the hardest time tucking under...not to play the chord alone, but when changing... from e or d... Mama told me they’ll be days like this...

Hey Justin, Merry Christmas! I started playing guitar almost 2 years ago, and followed your lessons since day 1. Your lessons are the best ones, and I've checked a LOT of other free and paid ones (I even went and got a teacher, but even on my native language he couldn't explain stuff as good as you do). Eventho I haven't played for that long, I get the hang of stuff pretty quick (call it a talent if you want), so I actually got better than all of my friends that started 2-3 years earlier than me (slackers, not that I didn't slack off now and then :)). Your way of teaching and explaining is the best, I still visit your lessons now and then when I want to get deeper into a new for me genre or I can't transcribe myself something. I hope that more people get to hear about you and try your lessons, and I wish you all the best!

Tom Petty's Free Fallin is a very easy one too. That was my first. You just need a Capo on the third fret. It's just D Dsus Dsus D A. That pattern for every line in the song.

The only thing I would add for a beginner is a just a touch of theory. The reason Justin uses these chords is because they are part of a Key and it's the most logical Key of Amajor. A being chord I, D IV & E V. so if anyone sees the the Chords referred to as I, IV or V This makes them relate to each other and sound right together. Without trying to be confusing the II and III chords would be Bminor & Cminor (following on alphabetically). Just a small foundation note, which becomes clearer as you learn more chords and keys.

Here's two 3-chord Prince songs: I feel for you (EAD) and When you were mine (DAG). Capo on the 2nd fret for the original key. Go to ChordU and transpose -2 to see when to strum what.
