Anyone else gonna point out that in the video they said Optimus passed the Matrix to Hotrod when he passed it to Ultra Magnus Rodimus prime is born when he fights Megatron/Galvatro
when thinking of Disney, the only terrifying death i remember watching as a kid, was Claytons Hanging scene in Tarzan, where the lightning flash reveals him being hung by the neck in the shadow. i remember grabbing my mum sat next to me in fright in the cinema.
babysinclairfan that was the only mistake in this video. Optimus Prime’s death gutted me as a kid. Now, I’m gonna pop in the Blu-ray and relive it. Lol
I've never seen All Dogs Go to Heaven, but the thought of that death made me wanna cry. Betrayed and taken advantage of in a moment of weakness. That's truly heartbreaking.
Though, everyone who knows about Miles Morales would know that Peter Parker had to die, as he was already dead in the comics by the time Miles took up the mantle of Spider-Man.
#10: The Iron Giant #9: Agatha Prenderghast #8: Michelle’s Parents #7: Edwina #6: Peter Parker/Spider-Man #5: Stoick #4: Littlefoot’s Mother #3: Optimus Prime #2: Charlie B. Barkin Honorable Mention: Constance Nebbercracker , The Blender, Ardakian Trawl, Rasputi, and Mongo the Gingerbread Giant #1: So Many Dead Rabbits
You could actually make a list on this subject for the entirety of The Transformers The Movie alone. Optimus Prime dying hit a bit hard, but the vast majority of the original cast perished. With the shuttle scene alone I can still remember kid me watching and thinking "what the hell is going on here?" Yeah, they shoot lasers at each other, but they're not supposed to connect. I was so wrong!
@@cazazer01wotb No. Ultra Magnus was the next holder of the matrix. Not Hot Rod. Worthiness doesn't matter. The matrix didn't find Optimus worthy either... Optimus even said as much when Ultra Magnus protested.
#5 - How To Train Your Dragon 2 - Stoick's death still gets me everytime, even though it was unexpected and at least WatchMojo got it right saying that Toothless was under mind control of Drago's Bewilderbeast and Hiccup did try his best to snap him out it. People who claimed to have seen the film always forget that bit of information!
Nobody seems to be talking about Chicken Run, the whole concept of this underrated masterpiece is to relate to the hard and life flashing times of war and slavery, and the amount of mental strength it took to keep your emotions and your sanity intact. But it is portrayed by chickens because like soldiers, chickens are forced to labor everyday, otherwise, get killed. And what was indeed terrifying was the scene with Edwina getting decapitated for slaughter displayed in a very creepy silhouette, she lost her happiness, she lost her point in life, she felt sorrow for her friends, and lived in nothing but fear and depression, *so she just wanted to end it*
it probably would've had more impact if Chickens werent made the example, also it didnt help that we didnt get to know Edwina at all, she was a random execution which only softened the blow more.
How is Littlefoot’s mother’s death not number 1?! That scene was the most terrifying death I had ever seen as a child, made me afraid of losing my mother, and, even to this day, still makes me cry!
They had to cut a whole ten minutes from The Land Before Time partly because of how dark the original one could be. Even in the final product, you can see chunks of flesh being torn from Littlefoot’s mother’s back in the silhouette.
DarkMagicalYoshi Littlefoot's mother isn't weird for me to put here, because Watership Down feels like it deserve to be in number 1, because here it looks actually terrifying, because many of bunnies died here, so Little foot mom death pales in comparison, who while it got some intense moment, at the same time is more heartbreaking
@Olivia Williams Wow, I did not know that. In fact, according to what I know, before they premiered The Land Before Time, the producers were concerned that the mother's death would traumatize a lot of children so he had the scene after her death, the one where Littlefoot is talking to the older dinosaur, Rooter, added in as a way to help the children understand her death.
@@micharosa6201 See that's the thing, I did not see Watership Down as a child so it did not affect me like it did with others. I did watch it, but I was much older when I did. However, I can see the significance of how terrifying those deaths were, especially when I think about it through the eyes of a child.
All the directors and animators. When angry parents exited the theaters to complain about the film, they responded with " you did see the movie poster didn't you"? Seriously, this was actually said by the directors of the film at the time. You can watch it as an extra on some of their DVDs.
What concerned me was that there was no funeral scene where all the surviving Autobots mourned Optimus. And why didn’t Elita-1 appear in the movie? It would’ve been touching to see her cry.
8:22 - oh for god's sake! 🤦♂️ He passed it to Ultra Magnus, only for Magnus to lose the Matrix to Galvatron, THEN Hot Rod retrieves it to become Rodimus Prime.
the Matrix shine bright when Hotrod grabbed it when Optimus dropped it in his dying breath and later in the movie, it helped transform Hotrod into Rodimus Prime to win the battle against the Decepticons and Unicron, which didn't happened to Ultra Magnus throughout the ENTIRE movie the Matrix chose Hotrod from the beginning, not Ultra Magnus
Starting off with a stab in the heart, Jesus. Iron Giant made me cry hard as a kid. Optimus deserved #1 though, because no matter how many times you watch it, every single time is the same feeling as losing a family member. Optimus is a legend. A bunch of dead rabbits pales in comparison. All Dogs Go to Heaven looks like garbage, what in the world? I remember growing up and watching that a few times, but I definitely don't remember it looking so awful.
the rabbits part is worthy of top spot, as it is terrifying, but Optimus is the saddest death for anyone that grew up on the transformers, and it will stay with you in a different way than the rabbits, that shit will stick in your nightmares...
Goldtiger142003 sounda alot like a personal opinion. which means a great likelihood that i and many others dont share it. so no, i do not feel like i lost a family member. also, dead robot is not same as dead living organisms that really exist on earth as a result of human actions. context. when you say iron giant made you cry as a kid...were you talking about last week?
I saw Watership Down when I was almost an adult. It's actually one of my favorite movies of all time. I'm not sick though; I think it's a lovely story. The ending gets me right in the feels every time.
Perceptor: I fear the wounds are... fatal. Daniel: Prime, you can't die! Optimus: Do not grieve. Soon, I will be one with the Matrix. Hot Rod: Prime... Optimus: (Groans) Ultra Magnus, it is to you, old friend. I shall pass the Matrix of Leadership to you, as it was passed to me. Ultra Magnus: But Prime,I'm... I'm just a soldier. I'm not worthy. Optimus: Nor was I. But, one day, an Autobot shall rise through our ranks, and use the power of the Matrix to light our darkest hour. (reveals the Matrix) Optimus: Until that day... 'Til all are one. (Drops the Matrix) (Ultra Magnus places the Matrix in his chest) (Optimus' pulse flatlines and turns grey) RIP Optimus Prime
Once upon a forest was one of my favorites as a kid! Great story and Michael Crawford (original stage Phantom of the Opera) as the voice of Cornelius-perfect!
Thanks to the top ten list, I was finally able to remember the name of the movie. I've been thinking about what it was called for a couple of weeks since I randomly remembered that it was one of the movies I watched when I was a kid
I’m surprised that the Angel of Death sequence in The Prince of Egypt didn’t even get an honorable mention. That scene still gives me chills every time I watch it, especially in the ending when you hear the faint cries of the wailing parents.
I still remember seeing Optimus Prime die and having to leave the theater. I will be 40 this year and it still makes me tear up and I'm not ashamed of it. Emotions, why emotions have to get in the way of things.
I’m excited for this video. You’ve released a lot of anime and video game related videos recently, and those aren’t my thing, so I haven’t watched a lot of your new videos the last few days. But by the way, I LOVED your game show video. It was so funny. Keep up the good work!
Whoa! I had never realised that about edwina’s death in chicken run! I obviously completed overlooked. No wonder it’s one of the best animated films ever made. Hopefully the sequel can live you to that one day, whenever it does release of course...
I don’t remember anyone at my school, including myself (I was 7, going on 8 in 1986), that was either “traumatized”, or “terrified” by Optimus Prime dying. I remember we were all shocked, for sure, and it was definitely the talk of the lunch table/playground, I seem to recall the general consensus was excitement that something so “adult” could happen in a movie that was meant for us! It was so different from what we were used to getting at the time! Not to mention them dropping “shit” and “damn it” into it, which was also a part of the lunch table talk...lol. I don’t believe a single one of us was feeling “scarred for life” about it...especially because a little later down the road, they brought Prime back to life anyways (this came after the one resurrection episode where Prime was revived at the Autobot mausoleum and came back evil), thus redeeming themselves in our young eyes. 😆
I remember watching the land before time when I was 4 and crying. Even then I knew how he felt, my mom commited suicide when I was 1. The last thing that she gave me was a Littlefoot doll that I used to carry everywhere, and now my son plays with that same doll.
Thank You Much for not only including but starting the list with The iron giant . it had a personal hit as well as a place in my heart ever since I was little and up to this day this scene gets me in tears🥺😢💓😥😩😭
In my personal opinion, I think Soto from the original Ice Age movie should've gotten an honorable mention. I remember when I was younger, I was horrified when Soto got impaled by icicles after Manny knocked him into a wall. Even when it doesn't show him getting stabbed, it's still pretty disturbing for a movie aimed at children if you ask me.
#4. I remember watching that on VHS as a young child. That moment was severely traumatizing for me. It was at that point a lot of kids back then learned the hard way that life isn't fair; essentially my The Lion King before I turned double digits. Also depressingly enough, the girl who did the voice for the tiny green dinosaur; I think her name was Becky? An Iguanodon? I read as an adult in an article that she and her mother were supposedly killed by her own father in a murder/suicide. Edit: Okay, the dinosaur's name was Ducky and she was a Saurolophus. The child actress was Judith Barsi who also voiced the girl in All Dogs go to Heaven among several other projects. And sadly yes, her father murdered her and his wife in a murder/suicide in 1988. Horrible reminder spousal abuse is a real thing that probably goes unreported a lot more than confronted. Please, go to the police if you're being tormented by anybody. Nobody deserves to go through what Judith Barsi and her mother Maria went through.
Can you do the Top 10 Animated Netflix Villains? they can be from movies too. Here's my example- Gunmar the Black - Trollhunters General Val Morando - 3Below Lord Marmoo - Kulipari: An Army of Frogs Mrs Krum & Mr Elingboe - Klaus Ares - Next Gen Prince Lotor - Voltron: Legendary Defender
@JOSEPH CUNNINGHAM Yeah except thats not how WatchMojo describes it. Also I don't think anyone is particularly chosen...its like...can you open the matrix or not.
The Land before time gives me the same feelings as when Bambi's mother died. I still cry when watching the death of Stoick especially when you've watched the Riders of Berk series after the 1st movie , How to train your dragon, you grow attached whilst watching his ongoing character development .. T.T i'd rather his mom died tbh .. nobody knew the mom, nobody bonded with the mom .. she just randomly appeared with her dragon hoarde and her dad had to raise hiccup single handedly all the while ..
A good chunk of these are scary - all of them heart breaking. Being a 90s kid I got the G1 movie like couple years ago, but no matter which continuity Optimus Prime dying is #1 for me. (Editing error: when Prime died he gave the Matrix of Leadership to Ultra Magnus. Hot Rod got it later in the film which turned him into Rodimus Prime.)
"Peter Parker/Spider-Man - Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse" *"Even In A Film Overloaded With Spider-Men And Woman, Losing Even One Of Them Is A Lot To Take In. When Miles Morales Stumbles Upon Peter Parker, There's Every Hint That The Elder Spider-Man Will Become An Important Mentor For The Young Aspiring Hero, Sadly That Possibility Is Tragically Cut Off When Peter Falls In Battle And Is Ruthlessly Executed By Kingpin."* That was honestly the most upsetting scene in Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse...I didn't think it would happen, but it did and boy was I upset! 😭😭😭
Producers of Transformers and GI Joe animated movies decided that their movies should have a major impact on their shows. So they decided to kill off the respective leaders of the heroes. Optimus Prime and Duke were targeted. GI Joe was supposed to be released first. But due to production delays it was pushed back. Optimus Prime died. Due to the overwhelmingly negative reaction to his death. Duke’s fate was changed. Instead of dying he went into a coma. Watch the scene where they say he went into a coma without music/sound off. That scene becomes something else.
That Water Ship Down death scene gave me a lot of nightmares as a kid. Little Foot's mother dying was a first for me, and I was just a kid, so I did not know how tragic losing some one close would be, until I saw the cartoon movie of the Lion King and the death of Mufasa. I even heard a lot of kids ran away from the Transformers movie in tears after the seeing the death of Optimus Prime and not bother to see the rest of the movie.
Some of the deaths that terrified me when I was a little kid are. 1. Optimus prime from Transformers 2. Scar from The Lion King 3. Rasputin from Anastasia 4. Maleficent from sleeping beauty 5. Horned King from The Black cauldron 6. Claude Frollo from The hunchback of Notre Dame 7. Mr. Arrow from treasure planet 8. Ursula from The Little mermaid 9. Rourke from Atlantis the Lost empire 10. Gargoyles from Gargoyles The Movie: Heroes Awakening
I haven't seen Chicken Run in eons! 🐔 Heck, I even remembered when Burger King first advertised it too along having the game for the PS1 back when I was 6. Just seeing Edwina's Death somewhat traumatized me as her death makes me want to become a vegetarian on how terrible chickens are treated from farmers and can see why a lot of people stopped eating meat.
Great list, but the animated movie death that terrified me most as a kid was the villain in We're Back! He was basically eaten by birds only leaving one eye behind.
"Charlie B. Barkin - All Dogs Go to Heaven" *"Although The Movies Title Says It All There's Really No Way To Properly Prepare For Watching A Cartoon Dog Die. After Escaping From The Pound Charlie B. Barkin Is Betrayed By His Former Business Partner Carface Carruthers. Carface And His Accomplice Killer Get Charlie Drunk, Blindfold Him On A Dock, And Hurtle A Runaway Car At Him Knocking The Poor Dog Into The Water."* *BETRAYAL!!* I mean this scene is quite sad, but you still get to see him in the rest of the movie...don't get me wrong...seeing a dog die is pretty sad and I've cried in many movies scenes where animals die, and it gets me every time! 😭😭😭
Come now. Mufasa's death NEEDED to be on this list. Not an honourable mention. And it didn't even make that! Tut tut team Mojo 😞 Still tho . . . Phoebe on the 🎤 so . . . 👍 Be safe and stay blessed team Mojo 🙏 and thanks for the videoS!!! Loved What the List btw 😁
Hiccup just saw his best friend killing his father. Even though Toothless was being mind controlled, he was the one that in fact killed Stoick. Hiccup's grieving state prevented him from thinking clearly and could only see Toothless as the killer of his father and not as another victim of Drago's menace.
He just witnessed his best friend killing his father, and he clearly wasn't in his right mind. When he came to his senses, he realized that it really wasn't Toothless' fault because he was being controlled.
