My theory for BoTW is that the timelines are converging because of Gannon ending the cycle of reincarnation. Would explain things being in there from all three timelines.

Breath of the Wild takes place at the end of all three timelines it's the inevitable return of Calamity Ganon that would happen after all three split timelines. That's why this game references nearly every aspect other Zelda titles

Regarding the timeline, I think the thing so many people are missing is that it may be a CONVERGENCE, given how we the Zora and Rito, who are implied to be an evolution of the Zora, coexisting, alongside enemies that have only existed in the downfall timeline. Alternatively, the entire timeline thing could just be to please the fans who insist there was a timeline.

Breath of the Wild brings all 3 timelines back into one. So its the future of all 3 timelines. That's what my guess is

Idea: Hyrule Warriors is canon and takes place in the Child timeline. When Cia linked the times, she linked the timelines. 10,000 years later Breath of the Wild is in a merged timeline.

I'm still vouching for either a "dragon break" most likely or occuring concurrently in all timelines. For the dragon break idk why people think its farfetched when we only don't deal with magic, but the divine themselves. After all Hylia in Skyward Sword knew her own plan of reincarnating as Zelda so she sent Impa to the present-time we play in. Whereas at the end of the game, young Impa and the old lady are revealed to be one and the same. Plus with Fi being a supernatural creation of Hylia, despite being technically present in all 3 timelines, I would say if the merge were to be true, Link dying in Breath of the Wild 100 years ago is not only a reference to the downfall timeline, but a lesson she learned from her many ventures with Link. Heck, Zelda would have never even thought about the Shrine of Resurrection if it wasn't for Fi suggesting it and thus giving her master a second chance that she wasn't able to do in the downfall timeline before said dragon break. As for Nintendo themselves, they probably referenced a slew of games and inserted the many of the races, attributes, even namesakes (Vah Medoh is Medli in the Adult timeline while Vah Ruto Rudania (anagram) and Nabooris are downfall timeline and to an extent adult), etc of many Zelda games in Breath of the Wild as a way to veer us off from timeline theories. After all with Breath of the Wild and many future games ahead of it, I don't think Nintendo wanted to write themselves into a corner considering they always had to consider a timeline placement with many of their games in regards to gameplay elements and story.

“Radio Zelda” was my favorite LOZ commercial. Kind of surreal; like the end of the world is coming, and it was Y2K at the time. Armed soldiers surrounding a compound in the middle of the desert, some place like Area 51, where they protect some kid playing Zelda? Showing the moon getting closer, and that guy in the park saying he was using up all his minutes because the moon was going to drop. Good stuff, very creepy, great for a Halloween release.

Here's an idea: THERE IS NO TIMELINE!! All the games were ment to be standalone but because there's same/similar characters, fans figured they all must be connected, so the kept bugging Nintendo until they said fine, here, and have a wonky timeline that barely works. So to critique Nintendo saying oh they're stupid for not even knowing where their own game fits on the timeline is ridiculous, because there's not ment to be a timeline! It's like trying to link all the Final Fantasy games together because oh they all have chocobos and moogles and Cid, so they must be connected. Yet no one complains about no FF timeline. End the Zelda timeline BS!

I will not accept the Hyrule Encyclopedia's replacement of the Oracle games. Their original placement was perfect and I really doubt the people who wrote the encyclopedia really know the franchise well because of the change.

Well, it's no surprise that Nintendo didn't have a coherent storyline for the series. It was more a thing that the fans were desperately asking for.. if I'm not mistaken. Please don't forget that when most people say that Nintendo was always doing their own thing, well they were actually listening to their fans and supporters. Any business does so to a certain extend. So overall I'd say, this is a nice video.. good investigation done.. sad that the US market was such a buzz kill in the past.. since most islands and countries in the americas and caribbean depended on them. And please, your voice sounds fine.. raise the volume there and lower the volume on the special effects.

11:40 funny thing about one commercial I saw, one that was more modern was showcasing different zelda titles on handheld with uplifting music, and in the center then corner of the screen I saw a creature I hadn't seen in a zelda game before, I later discovered it was the minish from the minish cap; and from then I got hooked to the minish cap, even though our hero didn't have a magic bar, it filled my heart with wonder and joy and well, a magical experience.

I think the fact that Aonuma said that BotW was long after *OoT* is the start of Nintendo decided that BotW would be the inevitable end of all three timelines, therefore fixing the timeline split and bringing it back to one timeline.

I'm calling that a future game will be time travel heavy resulting in visiting multiple iconic periods in time and all timelines eventually resulting in the timelines being merged hence Nintendo won't have to care about the timeline

2 years or so ago I was looking for something to watch on on demand and saw the zelda cartoon I was excited because basically everything zelda is great besides the monstrosity this cartoon and th cdi games.

I really don't understand the haters... WW was an AMAZING game; Tingle may not be the best character, but he's ok and I would've loved to play his spin-off games...

I like the video but I feel the Zelda cartoon explanation is not justified. Saying that it destroyed the idea of what Zelda was is wrong. It was released in 1989 and the only thing fans had to go on story wise were 2 games, Zelda and Zelda 2. That was the whole Zelda world. Zelda 1 only had the story line in the manual and if you didnt read it you only knew what you read in the intro screen if you decided to wait for it and read it. Zelda 2 introduced villages and more interaction but story wise still only in the intro and manual. So the cartoon was the first deeper dive into the Zelda world, yes it wasn't the greatest story but it was made for kids and most 80s kids will tell you they loved the cartoon. If you're someone who didn't grow up in the 80s then the cartoon looks like a disaster when looking back through the lens of someone who's first zelda games were zelda64 onwards. It's right to say Nintendo wants to forget about it because it doesn't at all represent what Nintendo has grown the zelda world into, but to say that it destroyed the idea of zelda when the world wasnt fully developed yet doesn't adequately make for a reason to bash it.

Aonuma has already confirmed that there is no actual timeline, they never think on a timeline when making a new game (it wasn't a specific comment about BotW), that the timeline was just made to please the fans who demanded one. And the ones that made the books (darkhorse) were given freedom regarding the creation of the timeline

I definitely feel like the BOTW era is pretty much going to be Nintendo’s version of a Dragon Break, where multiple endings of a game or timeline turn out to happen all at once. It would actually benefit them at this stage even more than it did Bethesda during Daggerfall. My thoughts: Considering you primarily hear references to Skyward Sword, Ocarina of Time, and Twilight Princess, I’m willing to guess that this is primarily the timeline BOTW takes place in. However, because of the convergence with ‘incompatible timelines’ (Wind Waker where Hyrule ends up being flooded and LttP where the Hero of Time was defeated), the result was a time paradox that led to a rewritten history and the creation of the first and second Calamities at opposite ends of the timeline.

Fact 8 is different depending on your point-of-view. Freshly-Picked Tingle’s Rosy Rupeeland has seen a Western release. It was released on September 14th 2007 in Europe. If you don't count Europe as "Western-release territory" and just see the USA, Canada (and/or Australia) as "Western-release-territory", then you are correct.

We aren't gonna talk about the fact that because of the champion's ballad Mario Kart 8 is now canon in a parallel universe, or the fact that hyrule warriors fixes the timeline inconsistencies in breath of the wild, or the fact that said game has a side quest where you hook up a pedo with a zora child? Or that it's a reboot and the start of its own timeline? (You might have mentioned some of those, actually. I dunno.)

Breath of the Wild is said to not be in the downfall timeline, it is also at the end of the timeline, it would make no sense for it to be in the adult timeline, thus, what are we left with.

There's a VERY simple explanation to this whole thing, the timeline only offers the sequence of things, each game represents a single point in Hyrule's history, separated by hundreds or even thousands of years (excluding direct sequels), every time it's a different Link, Zelda, and Ganon, in a reincarnation cycle. By the time of BotW, Zelda, and Ganon have become aware of this cycle, and both responded accordingly (Link might have, before the amnesia), Zelda tried to awaken the powers she had in previous lives, failed, and put Link in the proverbial fridge as plan B, and Ganon said "Fuck this futile cycle, EVERYONE DIES!!!" this time around. By this logic, if you wanna know when a game is happening, look at Ganon, the more human/Gerudo he looks, the earlier in the timeline (Demise himself being the earliest point). ….and the CDi games never happened. NO, SHUT UP! DIDN'T HAPPEN!

At the whole timeline thing: I think it's easier for everyone if all Zelda games are just considered to be their own independent story, which essentially all take place in similar, but parallel universes. There are a couple obvious exceptions, of course; MM is clearly a direct sequel to OOT, for example, but unless there are obvious connections between two games, they have nothing to do with each other.

8:58 consider this: IT TAKES PLACE WAY WAY into the future, even with all the timelines combined, breath of the wild takes place as the one of the newest entries in the timelines. In laymans terms "Pay attention", because the game takes place 100,000 years forward in zelda history, another 10,000 years since the fall of calamity ganon, and another ONE HUNDRED YEARS when link awakes from his injuries.

As cute as Triforce Hero is, it has almost no business being in the tineline and especially no business being a shoehorn sequel to ALBW. That's just silly! They just did this for the hell of pleasing us timeline nerds (not that I am one but I do like to think about the possibilities once in a while.) I think it would go better in the Adult Timeline if anything. But that's just me. Hyrule Encyclopedia isn't even made by Nintendo, but instead by some randoms in charge of Nintendo Dream Magazine. These fellows were granted creative freedom to their little heart's content, so that why the timeline and lore doesn't make any sense. Nintendo themselves had almost no involvement with the book aside from licensing it. I also want that OoT Ura Expansive to be release on day. Surprisingly I really enjoyed Master Quest considering that OoT is my least favorite Zelda. Anything that add and build up the game to an even better product (to me personally) is something I definitely would like to see in action. I felt that while the game had solid dungeons, the rest of OoT was severely lackluster and uninteresting. If they make Ura Zelda, it could fix up some of the problems I have with the game and make it an even better experience. I hope that if they release OoT again as a console remake, that they'll consider the Ura edition but with fresh new ideas (since they reuse unused assets in future games.) It could be fun!

I always theorized that the "Hero has Fallen" part of the timeline were actually "subconscious dreams" of Link. This mostly spawned from (*spoilers on a 26 year old game about to be remade*) Link's Awakening being a dream. It also explains why characters from Ocarina of Time & Majora's Mask (games I haven't played until recently due to no N64) are in the Oracle Games.

Mario movie wasn't bad. It just wasn't like people wanted it to be. Its better (and similar) to Star Wars.

Breath of the wild does technically have an official location but most fans missed it. It's a fourth branch. See the old man at the beginning of the game is the Sage of Light, which was over the temple of Time. He also spoke about how his daughter, Princess Zelda, told him about Ganon but he didn't listen. He then said that the hero of time failed, so this is part of the failed timeline right? Well no, because Zora's are good again. My theory is this, after Wind Waker, a new timeline was made where Link befriended the zora again and brought peace to hyrule. This new land that formed many years later gave birth to new technology and the Sheika developed a way to revive the dead. Thus the link you play is the same link as in OoT and that is why the sage of light came to you to explain his failures and why you mustn't fail again.

I’m from Canada and I love Windwakers cel-shading style. It was way ahead of its time as we are seeing now. Games like fortnite, are similar , not quite as toon. But more vibrant and whimsical I also love Tingle
