My mum is from Mayo and have been back ever since I was a kid. I’ve seen Knock Shrine, DownPatrick Head and will go again but there’s plenty more I have to see. I love Mayo to bits
Recently found out that my great Grandparents were from Co Mayo, and Co Clare, so looking forward to a trip over to the beautiful West coast of Ireland..and videos like this make it look all the more worthwhile!!
I live in sligo the next county to mayo,but all my family except my siblings are from mayo its a great county as is sligo. This list is good ,but in order to see what makes the people of mayo tick,you should go to a gaelic football match involving the County Mayo team you may not be into sport,but the atmosphere mayo fans generate is unreal though usually well behaved not like soccer fans.Similarly the county clare hurling team.GAA organise both sports and the main championship begins in may and finishes in august you can find a full schedule at GAA.ie and tickets can be bought at centra and supervalu supermarkets or tourist office(not sure 100% about that).I would advise you to check the tourist office first because i think they might be cheaper.

Don’t miss the Clapper Bridge. Turn right and right again just after Killeen chapel. Well worth a visit and drive back as far as u can to the silver strand and thullabawn strand. Go to Leenane and see where the people walked for food during the famine and most died as there was no food. At the Clapper bridge you can see the remains of the colony set up to feed Catholics during the famine if they switched to the Protestant religion. Some did and who can blame them. U need to drive with care as the roads are very narrow but it’s all worthwhile 🌈
