Nikko is beautiful in Autumn. Went there just last week as one of my Japanese friends mother from another Prefecture was in town and she only just wanted to visit Toshogu Shrine.

Looks beautiful!. Do you think it's possible to visit the waterfalls and do some siteseeting on a day trip from Tokyo? I'm very limited in time but Nikko looks amazing in Mid November.

Absolutely! Visiting Nikko as a day trip from Tokyo is definitely possible, especially in mid-November when the autumn colors are at their peak, making it an even more magical experience. While Nikko has so much to offer, you can still cover the major highlights like the waterfalls and some key sightseeing spots in a day. It's tricky but possible, it's very common to do day trip actually. It's will be a 2-3 hours in commute though. So I would advice to plan your itinerary carefully. A quick thought is that you can visit Kegon Fall, Ryuzu Fall, Shinkyo Bridge and Tosogu Shrine. Hope it helps. :D

Nice video! If i would go to Nikko as a day trip from Tokyo would you still recommend the Nikko All Pass even though I have the JR Pass? Or does it make more sense to just use an JR Train and get bus tickets for Nikko?

Hey thanks for your comment! I think JR Pass doesn't cover transportation within the Nikko area. It's not eligible to use on non-JR railway lines, such as the Tobu Railway, which is the main rail network serving Nikko. To get from Tokyo to Nikko using the JR Pass, you can take a JR train (e.g., the JR Tohoku Shinkansen) from Tokyo to Utsunomiya, and from there, transfer to the JR Nikko Line to Nikko Station. However, once you arrive in Nikko, you will need to use other forms of transportation, such as local buses or taxis, to access the various attractions within the Nikko area. So I think it's depend on your itinerary in Nikko, whether your 1 day commute in Nikko can beat the Nikko All Pass price. For example the fee for Akechidaira Ropeway is 1000yen round trip, the cruise roundtrip is ~1700yen, etc. You should plan your itinerary then you can estimate your overall commute expense. Enjoy your visit to Nikko! :D

Thank you for your invaluable sharing and the 2 day trip falls in nicely for my coming trip that would be similar duration and timing. We wanted so much to see the autumns color of NIkko. Your vlog provide excellent details and is very helpful. You have included drone video clips which is very interesting but Japan seems very strict and difficult to apply to use drone for the tour. I don't want to break the law but is there a easier way to do so like you?

Hey welcome and thanks for your comment :D It took us 2.5 hrs to go from Senjogahara Marshland to the Yudaki Falls, we went in a very chill and relax manner :))) we usually stop and look at the scenery, stop in a sightseeing spot to have breakfast. I think with those amount of time, we explore almost all of the trail. The course was very easy, not so steep, very easy to walk and to enjoy the nature, I even saw children a long the way. Also I haven't search yet but there must be detour and shorter/longer course. Hope it's help! Wish you all the best in there ^^

Hey thank you for watching the video and considering a visit to Nikko! :D Senjogahara Marshland in Nikko is a wonderful place for hiking, and you can certainly explore it on your own. There is no specific entrance fee to access Senjogahara Marshland itself, but there might be fees for parking if you're driving. The trail is very easy to follow, and there are signs, directions everywhere so don't worry. Since your trip is next month, it's advisable to check the latest information, including trail conditions, weather forecasts, and any updated fees, closer to your travel date. Have a fantastic time exploring Senjogahara Marshland and Nikko! ^^

Hi thanks for your comment. 😊 I bought the pass 1 week before the departure date, but from Tobu website, you can buy it 2-3 day before the departure date: Passes may be purchased online up until two days before the departure date. (Three days in advance when booking both limited express tickets and passes) And about the passport, no, you don't need to show your passport. Hope it helps. 😊

Hi thanks for your comment :D I went there at Oct 21, 2021, it was the peak of foliage season. So if you plan to visit during Fall, I would suggest you to have a research before hand. Happy travel :D

As long as you are interested in shrines, architectures, sculptures or history, I dare say it is worth visiting in any time of the year. However, I think it will be so cold with heavy snow in March, in comparison to in Tokyo so don't forget to bring your jacket with you. 😁

I booked a cheap hotel near Tobu station named "Nikko Park Lodge Tobu Station". You know, you get what you pay for. From my experience I don't recommend except you are on a super budget. 😅

bạn ơi, đi cruise trên hồ mất bao nhiêu tgian vậy? mình chỉ có 1 ngày ở Nikko thì mình đi thác ryuza-> hiking senjogahara -> đi cruise quanh hồ chuzenji -> thác kegon -> cầu đỏ -> quay về station trước 5h chiều, đi vậy kịp ko ạ.

Bạn có thể tham khảo thời gian chạy ở đây nhé: www.chuzenjiko-cruise.com/timetable.html Lịch trình của bạn thì thứ tự các điểm mình thấy hiking senjogahara trước rồi đi xuống ryuzu fall, sau đó đi tiếp về các điểm bạn gợi ý thì hợp lý hơn nha bạn, mình sẽ đi xuôi dần về ga. Hoặc nếu bạn tới Nikko sớm thì bạn có thể tới thác Yudaki trước rồi đi hiking về senjogahara. Hiking senjogahara bạn phải đi thật sớm, mình đi từ Tobu station lúc 6 giờ, hiking senjogahara tới thác Yudaki mất 3 tiếng lận. Nên mình gợi ý timeline là buổi sáng mình đi senjogahara, rồi đi cruise, buổi chiều kegon, cầu đỏ, về ga. Lịch trình buổi sáng tùy thuộc vào thời gian bạn tới ga nikko vào mấy giờ nha, nếu đi từ Tokyo cũng mất 3 tiếng di chuyển rồi nên bạn phải đi thật sớm nhé. Một tips nữa là buổi chiều bạn sắp xếp về tới cầu đỏ trước 4h nhé không là tắc tới tối lun đó. Chúc bạn có chuyến đi vui vẻ nhé, nếu có gì thắc mắc cứ hỏi mình nha! ^^
