For the record, by 1993, Karl was running Chloe, Chanel, Chanel Haute Couture, Fendi, And ran his own line in his name. That's 5 collections. Each collection has 2 shows for spring/summer, autumn winter. 5 collections, ten shows a year. He was surely busy!
He was a hugely prolific designer for hundreds of small, unknown brands. He was paid a great deal to do some dept. store designs, some blouses and skirts for many unknown companies. You probably have worn one of his designs without knowing it. He was an idea factory, buying thousands of books, collecting everything on photography, interior design and fashion from all over the world. He was known to take in struggling, upcoming designers and let them live in one of his houses, tons of people were always guests of his for months, even years. He was extremely eccentric before he took over channel. There are eyewitness accounts of him at a French beach, wearing a one piece "thong" bathing suit, high heels, sunglasses and carrying an enormous salami! Yikes!
@@karyannfontaine8757 Thank you! He was like everyone else in that he had his flaws. When you're famous, everything is hugely magnified. He was more than anything else, an extremely hard worker. He worked every day, all day, no matter what. On vacation, he was looking around constantly, drawing ideas, making notes, always. He was ridiculed by a lot of the people whom he helped. He knew it too. I think his feeling was to be completely eccentric would put a barrier between him and those who would ridicule him. There are some really good books on his life, and he is mentioned in tons of bios by people like Jerry Hall, a Texas model who went to Paris completely broke and became a giant superstar and married Mick Jagger in the 70s. Her friends there lived with Karl for ages. I didn't like a lot of his views or attitudes towards women, but he was never abusive in a personal way, it was all gay, gossipy camp sound bytes. I'm not excusing it, I just think because he wasn't a saint and incredibly rich, people were angry that he wasn't a gentle philanthropist. I've said so many really stupid, thoughtless things in my life, and I'm a big activist against abuse and speak out against it. But I've spoken in anger or mindlessly a bunch of times, or had views when I was younger that I cannot believe I ever entertained!! Being famous would mean it was all a permanent thing. Thank God I never have to worry about it. I believe there is a big difference between saying catty remarks about someone's weight or looks and pulling an R. Kelly!!! People aren't physically and emotionally harmed by some stupid comments. That's not the same as targeting someone for constant bullying. I'm making this very clear because people are very sensitive to all this, which is a product of ages of people getting away with very serious abuse. It will take a long time for people not to have an instant, knee jerk reaction to every single hint of it.
He wasnt rude, he was just totaly honest. As a german what is considered being rude in some contrys, honesty is considerd a virtue in Germany and France (no lying politness, like elsewhere). He was a hard working man till his end, very dilligent. He said, that after his dead the people that worked long years for him will be in his testament, so that they never have to work for somebody else again. You can critisize what you want, but have you achieved something in your life? RIP Karl.
Karl seems very pleasant and nice. So what if she called a fat girl fat or joked about appearances? Only people obsessed with looks would be offended! He was a fashion designer he had every right
Most creative geniuses are objects of jealousy of small minded incompetent people who badmouth them for having high standards. If you won't respect art or your work they won't respect you.
Karl Lagerfeld was an icon of fashion , he has influenced many of my fashion designer friends . R.I.P to a Legend , you will be missed, i hope he has several protogeys that will continue his insperation and work for many years to come .
I like that his misogyny and fatshaming was mentioned. Seeing everyone glorify him like the way they did casts a shadow on his flaws. He wasn't 100% perfect and it's good to remember the good and the bad about a person.
Being blunt isn't misogynistic and I don't think Adele cares about what he said. People who are usually offended by everything are the ones who are insecure about themselves.Which by the way,is what you're doing.
@@amisfitsdiary4489 No, I only reply because you think you know him when really you don't.Not everything and every person is black and white. So how you stop spitting on his grave and be in his shoes for one minute?
If you’re reading this, please remember that brilliance CAN be accompanied by kindness and empathy. I wish that this talented man had been a kinder human being.
Thank you! People tend too confuse rudeness with being "real". You can be real without alienating everyone around you. It takes real skill to tell the truth without being a insulting bore. He was a real rockstar personality, and it's almost encouraged for them to be assholes. They don't have to be, you're right.
Those americans, i am happy its different in france and germany; we don't like (false politenes) to forbid sombody to speak bis mind openly. Second i would prefer a honest dicussion to somebody who was just nice...
Mc Lovin I have loved ones in Europe, and I visit often. I understand your point, but I don’t think that empathy and tact equate to false kindness. Honesty doesn’t have to be unnecessarily brutal. Honesty can simply be mature. I appreciate your opinion, and I truly hope that your day (or evening depending on you time zone 😉) goes well.
It’s interesting in all the videos of him I’ve watched, when he speaks ‘normally’ he’s speaking French. When he’s speaking English, he speaks with a German accent Nonetheless, he always looked bad ass with the black glasses and fingerless gloves
Carlover88 Z The fact that you think knowing who some old asshole is makes you less of a person says a lot about you. Mainly that you’re small minded and shallow.
@@Coolinteresting876 I know, I was being silly. He was very obvious, even back in the fifties. I am not criticizing it at all, it was just more unusual at that time for a man to "act" gay, even if everyone knew he was.
he was very talented but lets not forget some of the horrible ideals he stood for. He was an open fat-phobic, misogynist, and endorsed poverty and suffering from the fashion industry.
@0 1 His accent has nothing to do with it. His actions make him seem like a jerk. I used the verb "sound" in a more figurative sense. I can also tell you that there are a few languages that belong to the same family as German - English (yes), Dutch and Scandinavian languages.
@Matt Frazier I got a slightly different impression of him after watching this video. Some people with money and fame simply think they are allowed to do whatever they please and say mean things, and they would still be quoted. That kind of impression.
Rip Karl Lagerfeld we will miss you man will maybe not all of the people who are watching this video who are not fan of hes at all hope he's family will be ok i know it's hard to get over someone at died for a long time and I love your videos a lot on here they are sooo good on here and keep up the hard work making your videos on here guys
