Man, You do a GREAT service to the C5 community (C6 too) I see you all over the forums, You don't pedal b.s. Your hearts in the right place and it shows! I'm glad your youtube platform is growing too. Hoping that continues as A. The effort alone, you deserve to be paid. B. You don't abuse your platform, your honest + your experienced! C. If your like me any way to have more $ to spend on upgrades is a beautiful thing. I know nothing about how youtube pays but Im all to aware the amount of time/effort alone spent on production/editing!!! If you haven't done it you may not realize but it's simply time consuming. Keep the content coming. Ive owned my C5 almost a month now. Just landed a sweet job opportunity too (Yes I bought the C5 when I wasn't working, lol) Eyeing the A&A kit myself & I'm just hoping the fishing will be good on this new boat!!
I’ve got a trick. If you don’t have a fob and want to use the door key, turn once to unlock drivers door..twice to unlock both doors and 3 times for trunk to pop open 😂
I have an Arctic White 2000 coupe with a 6spd manual. I always hated the lack of a keyset on the passenger side(first year it was eliminated). Being a gentleman, I like to reach around my date an use the key to unlock her door. I sourced a door from an Arctic White '99 and replaced my original door, as you can't simply put the earlier door handle on without doing a fair amount of glass work to accommodate the larger handle assembly. The paint match was perfect and the three key trick to open the other door and the hatch now works from both sides. The wiring harness simply plugged into the existing one. No wiring mod needed.
I swear, the DIC code reader can not be overstated. So many times on our FB groups ppl be like "I don't have a code reader" or "no codes pulled up on my code reader", while the dic one shows codes that many scanners don't see.
You can manually operate the headlights to open and close them without having to turn the lights on. There is a knob next to the lights that have a rubber boot on them. Take the boot off and turn the knob to open then to close them turn it the other way.
Dude I love your videos!! I absolutely love the C5 and C6 Corvettes. I've owned both a C6 Z06 and now driving a C5 base... When I was shopping for a Corvette the C7 came to mind but after some test drives and really deep thinking I realized that the C6 Z06 is my favorite Corvette of all time. I sold my C6Z because I wanted a boat but didn't really want to give up my Corvette life lol... so I settled for a C5 and let me tell you Im not disappointed at all, in fact I'm just as happy driving a C5 as when I was driving the C6 😁
One of my favorite things to do, when owning a GM product is looking up the RPO codes. I found some cool things about my C%. One being factory cd changer. Yes, it is still in the car and works.
The door jamb, when opened, is shaped and form with a small ledge to have your hand push on to assist getting out. It will work better if you are legs are perpendicular to the rocker panel or outside of the door.
Not sure if this is one, but here goes. For Z06/FRCs that have trunks that don’t pop up far enough, push the truck release button and close the door. That’ll make the trunk pop up far enough so that you can get your fingers underneath to open.
I can still strap myself into my worn out c5 seat. The seat padding is flat but the side boosters still hold me tight in place. I never knew about the competitive driving mode, I have never heard anyone talk about it. I thought that only applied to adjustable shocks/active handling. I just went down and yes it does have a competitive driving mode. Normally, when I want to smoke the tires I just turn off traction control, I can't wait to go for a ride and see what it will let me do now. I got a tip for you ... check your gas cap, if it is worn out, it will trigger the red check engine light. I have went through three caps in 10 years.
Just a small clarification about the fans: It's not that "fan motor #1" starts at one temperature and "fan motor #2" kicks in at another. Both fans always run together at the same time. When we refer to "fan #1," it means both fan motors are connected in series, running at half their full speed. When we refer to "fan #2," it means the motors are connected in parallel, running at full speed.
Hey thanks for the great video! Very good tip about the trunk. I always thought it was inconvenient that I have to turn the car off to open the trunk. I wonder if this will also work with taking the soft top down. I'll try tomorrow. Thanks!
My FRC has a manual tab that you can pull for releasing the gas tank door if it runs out of batteries. The tab in my car is located on the driver side in the trunk tucked up by the wheel well.
@@Toys4Life I'm also wondering what happened to your Formula Fiero. It doesn't appear in your videos and I haven't seen new content. I hope it hasn't been replaced by that pesky C6! 😢
I have it and drive it occasionally too. It's not worth much and I've had it forever, I Love that car as well, it's just so different than the Corvettes, but I feel like it's probably confusing the RU-vid algorithm for my channel as fiero owners and Corvette owners typically don't have a bunch in common. Thinking about starting a separate funeral only channel but the market is so small for fiero's compared to Corvette stuff. I make the videos because I like them and I'm also making them to try to grow a channel that can be a source of enjoyment and part-time revenue in retirement. Thoughts 🤔
@@Toys4Life I will say this, I started watching your channel for the Fiero content. The Fiero community is very loyal and hungry for good content. It just so happened that I got into the Corvette scene just shortly after you did after picking on them for so long, 😆 .. I can relate to the brotherhood now but will never let go of the Fiero or the community.. IDK if you should separate the channels or maybe incorporate both cars in the title. Either way, I enjoy all the content and hopefully continue to see more!
Not sure if this is useful or not but on the manual vettes you can make a bootleg kill switch by just disconnecting the clutch pedal sensor,it seams stupid but in the heat of the moment seconds matter
A lot of these things are interesting to discover when driving a c5 for a few years and every time I find something new, I can't help but think how ahead of its time the c5 was. Mine has 143k on it and it definitely drives like a 24 year old car.
I have a 2002, auto. I’m wondering what everyone drives there car in. D or like D3? Maybe d is meant for more prolonged highway driving? Keep up the great videos..
I have a manual but if I had an auto I would leave it in D unless I knew I was about to destroy a honda, then I would be in 1 or 2 depending on our current speed (:-)
I leave mine in overdrive or 4th, IF I want to screw around I drop it down to 2nd. I'm 70 yrs old and it has very predictable power in that gear and I need to know that.
Manually downshifting is easier on the 4L60E than letting it automatically kick down. IDC what people say, it works! I have nearly 150,000 miles on my C5, almost 90,000 of which have seen a built, 600hp+ on dyno, LS7 torturing the 4L60E. Trans is totally stock. Never done anything but change the fluid (NOT flushed!) and filter, plus (obviously) a tune. At least 50 dragstrip runs in last 21 years, no issues. Works for me😊😊😊
Or, rip those awful couch feeling seats out, lol. Best mod I ever did was a full Sparco set up. Total overkill, but at the track, oh my goodness it is pure bliss! I do blame my Wife as she was the one who said the stock seats needed to go. So I have that at least.
I did this seatbelt tightening technique while driving, got home undid the seat belt and got out. When i got back on a couple hours later the seatbelt wont pull out and only keeps retracting tighter. I saw a video where you can take apart the device that the seatbelt feeds into but im hoping I dont have to do all that. Any chance you have some advice?
Keep playing with it and tapping on it with something. I would get it replaced, if it's jammed it's probably gummed up with something (being 20 years old) and potentially dangerous. Vet nuts sells them.
@@Toys4Life that's what I was thinking when I came back and looked to see if that tighter belt fight had a release process. When I saw it didn't I figured I'd have to replace it or tear into it to find the problem
You could try squirting a small amount of WD-40 up in there too. I doubt it's broken, unless you hit a wall or something which I'm pretty sure you did not. Has to be just gummed up from lintt and debris etc. wd-40 will make your car smell like WD-40 for a while though which goes without saying.
If you stray from home often and LONG distances - maybe good idea. If you use your C5 for a weekend car and most trips are not that far from home (hour or less) - ditch em! It is game of chance, not sure about you but I have only had one "blow out" in the past 30 years (hit a fat chunk of metal that made a good size hole that removed all the air in 20 seconds. Non runflats have better performance!
Does anyone know why my c5 dosent even have HVAC pop up for codes while going through diagnostics. I don’t have the dual climate control option but the ac dosent blow cold so I’m trying to figure out the code and it just dosent pop up at all.
Possible the non dual zone doesn't have a module that would set codes. These wont tell you if you have low refrigerent or if your AC compressor is bad though. That having ben said, I am NOT the best C5 AC guy (:-)
@@Toys4Life Must be differences in proportion. I'm 6'1" and I'd like to have the seat back another inch or so. No way I'm moving it forward. But I've got a roll bar and 5-point harnesses in mine, so it's a moot point.
I think that might be a myth or just a couple of your deal. I tried it once with my 2003 and couldn't get it to work? It's interesting I'd like to see someone try it to show that it works? 😜
