That finish involving Morehead State and Louisville, unbelievable, especially when Vern wanted a foul on Morehead State, but the refs didn't want to hear about it
'86 Masters call is his best ever. I know it's subjective....but every time I go on a golf trip. Take the VCR, 1986 Masters VHS.....we drink beer and get chills over the final round and that call.
How can you not have Super Bowl 13 "Bless his heart, he's got to be the sickest man in America, Oh! Jackie! He was so wide open! And he could not hang on to the ball!"? IMHO not only an iconic Verne Lundquist call, but an all-time iconic call regardless of announcer.
People talk about his work in college sports, but what about the " pros " ? He was the play by play caller for the NFL game between the Eagles and the Bears in 1988 known as the " fog bowl " and he made it fun , eventhough it was impossible to see something due to the fog .
I hope y'all will reply to this I like Verne Lundquist he started out at WFAA 8 the ABC affiliate in Dallas-Forth Worth, Texas..he's a great announcer a shame him and Dick Vitale never teamed up to call a college basketball game....that would have been some game huh y'all?????.......he was in the film adaptation of The Best Little Whorehouse in Texas he was himself in the film he was one of the announcers announcing the University of Texas/Texas A&M football game in the film
I'm proud of you for not including the child predator school better known as Penn State on this list. Never mind, Verne only called big games. That's why they aren't on this list. Maybe if we could go back to the mid 80s, when Penn State was actually a threat, then it might be a little different.
This is an awful list. How can the Kentucky/Duke game in 92 not be on here? As a UK fan, that game sucked but the call from Vern has to be high on any list like this. Several other misses as well.
