My grandma passed away two years ago this December. When my family was cleaning out the old farmhouse we found a bunch of older fisher price toys in the attic crawlspace. I was checking out the children's hospital and noticed the elevator wouldn't come all the way down to the ground floor. So upon investigation I found a 82-83 mail away hooded Cobra Commander and a 12in Rambo M-16. And I also have and love copperhead and the water moccasin. Great work, really enjoyed . Your list is pretty much the same as mine. Wish I had all the Joe toys me and my Lil brother had.
@@Supreme36074 that's what they tell me....but then when you try to sell them you are lucky if you can find a person to pay a third of what it's worth...mainly bc there are way too manyy people trying to make money off of us actual collectors....if you want something you pay three times it's worth, but want to sell and you get a 3rd of its value.....I quit collecting all my childhood toys and gave away a lot of Fisher price toys bc of this fact....
*0:46* Those Dreadnoks were the only ones that ever mattered. Zartan's daughter was introduced in the comics & became an action figure from what I heard, but that's The Dreadnoks
I think the reason ninja popularity continues is because as soon as popular opinion wanes, a new cool ninja comes out in a toy or a movie or a comic book, and everyone gets excited about ninjas again.
I have cobra commander with a hood. I can remember cutting out the offer for the cobra commander w/hood from the cardboard back of another GI Joe figure. I was in 4th grade, filled out the envelope, put cash (with change) in the envelope and sent in in. Several weeks late he showed up in the mail. My parents didnt even know I had done that. Geez I was 5!
That definitely makes sense! I actually like Croc Master a lot. He was a contender for my Top 10 list. If it had been a Top 15 list, he probably would have been on there!
I’m the same , my interest started waning around 86 still like a few 87 figures but by then I was in 7th grade so let it go for girls lol. But today, I’m now a collector & have rebought alot of these guys. Especially the main character guys. Once I get more space I’ll add the headquarters, Flagg etc … it’s a hobby for me these days as I approach 50 these next couple years .
Around that age, I started to really notice girls, but I was just too clueless about how to act around them. They would come over to my house and hit on me and I'd offer to let them play my Nintendo. 😣
@@WeHadThat lol… girls definitely made a difference, I think that was a big part of it as well. I bought a couple 88 figures I liked. The last vehicle I bought until I started collecting was the Night Raven. Didn’t help we had moved so I was playing with the thing by myself lol.
@@MrAvenger1975 yes, exactly the same. I had already stretched my imagination with Serpentor & Cobra La… once they started getting goofy with the colors. Making missiles orange I kinda went hard into Nintendo as that was just blowing up as you know.
my Top 10 (in no particular order) : Stinger driver, Copperhead, Stormshadow, Viper pilot, Raptor, Serpentor, Dr. Mindbender, Crimson guard, Big Boa and Croc Master
I happily have 10 out of your top 10. I have a vague, twinkling memory of the night that I found a Storm Shadow version 1 at a Bradlees. That action figure changed play for me. A Magical night.
Remember those dioramas in the catalogs in the 80's? They had Baroness, Firefly, and Scrap Iron in a photo one time. I bought all three figures because they looked cool.
Snake eyes and storm shadow were my favorite Gi joe action figures. Like you I had a hard time getting storm shadow and I don't remember ever getting the first storm shadow action figure I think the one I got looked totally different...I'm going to look for the one I had...it's been a very long time since I thought about how exciting it was playing with my cousin and our Joe's...in the summer time we would stay up all night having the best times of our lives .....too bad those days are lone gone...
Copperhead was Bad Ass.. All my fav figures were the special ones .. Zartan, Serpentor, Tomax and Xamot, , slaughter, gold helmet Destro, battle suit cobra commander, Cobra Las golobulos
Cobra Bat was very underated. For me, I hated The Baroness. The glasses just killed it for me. Never had Firefly as a kid, but indeed a very cool villain. I have one now as an adult, no play time but he looks awesome on my display shelf
Cool video. I loved Firefly and Storm Shadow. I honestly liked most all of the figures that came out up until around 1990, then I lost interest. I also had the Water Moccasin and for whatever reason, I had Copperhead and CrocMaster as fighting buddies. Now, all of these years later, my boys like the old action figures. If they still made the 3.75 inch figures today, I’m convinced they couldn’t produce them fast enough.
I have a nice collection , my sons finds them cool . I’m older now so I collect them as a hobby & it’s still feels cool. Would love to tap into that old imagination that allowed me play with them 😂😂😂
Storm shadow and firefly were definitely my top five from Cobra, I loved Copperhead too, playing G.I. Joe’s past my 10-year-old kid self, but it turned into role-play, where I would use dice and rulers and we would create scenarios, including hiding figures in the bushes where you would have to take your troopers through that path to rescue another G.I. Joe. On your dice roll if you didn’t spot a sniper or a Cobra trooper hidden in the bushes you would get shot and killed. 😂 I basically stop playing with them after getting into comic books, but I probably kept the Joe’s on my bookshelf for years even a Hooded Cobra Commander at my work desk. Yo Joe!
storm shadow, zartan, crimson gaurd, the cobra bats, and the pilot of the jet from the terror dome.. I wanna see he was a crimson but just a bit different man I wish I still had these figures 😞
For me, Storm Shadow and Firefly(I always thought of Firefly as a Ninja from another clan allied to Storm Shadow's clan. With Firefly specialized in sabotage and arson) They both would have been number's 1 and two on my list respectively. Right behind Zartan. Who was my all time favorite action figure to this day. In my adventures Zartan was almost always the most dangerous and best hand to hand fighter. Not even Quick Kick or Storm Shadow(the next two best hand to hand Fighter's)could deal with Zartan's mastery of near every Martial Art that ever existed. This is because Zartan was always an Ancient being who could not die naturally. And could only be killed from certain equally Ancient weapons. This was why Zartan changed colors too camouflage himself, and warp through walls like we see in the cartoon. Because he held Ancient mystical powers learned and honed over the hundreds and thousands of years of his lifetime. Zartan always worked for himself, playing all sides against one another(just like in the cartoon). But in my universe Zartan was never a coward. And feared no one or nothing. Not even when death was about to claim him. His ancient wisdom taught him to never fear death and to welcome it when it came for him. I wish I had bought three of him. I saved lunch money, paper route tips, and lawn cutting money to buy Zartan and two other figures, with an accessory kit as well. His gun looked just like the one Eddie has on the cover of the Somewhere in Time album of Iron Maiden. Oh man did that fuel my imagination. The 80's action figure era was the best there ever will be!
There were so many Cobra greats, it's hard to pick a top 5, top 10, or even a top 20! Your list is full of some of my favorite figs as a kid, but Wild Weasel, the BATS, Crimson Twins, Alley Viper, Night Viper, Desert Scorpion and others were also heavy hitters for me. Great list though! Right now, my Water Moc is on display, piloted by Copperhead, of course, with Ninja Viper nestled in the gun turret, Firefly to his left and Storm Shadow on the right.
My two best friends and I would dump our men in one pile, guns in another, then backpacks and take turns picking them before we ever played...admiring each one of our favorites and talkin trash. It took at least an hour or so before we ever started playing lol. Most every fist fight my brother and I had as kids was over gi joe men and who would beat who...great times. Kids don't know what they're missing with the video games. But I'm old so you'll have that. Thanks for trip down memory lane!!!!
A few weeks ago I picked up my water moccasin and heard a noise inside... I was pleasantly surprised to find cobra commanders gun that must of been in there for almost 40 years.. lol
Storm Shadow also passes the Law of "Diminishing Ninjas" test. As a lone ninja, his Ninja Value (NV) is 1. However, because of the Law if he had another ninja as a partner, that ninja would only add half the NV that came before it, or .5 NV. And each added ninja adds only a half of the last added NV. So NV of 2 cannot be reached. This is why a lone ninja is almost as much of a threat as a horde of ninjas.
Great choices. Zartan, Copperhead were two of my favorites in addition to many of the ones shown in this video. Nice photography of these classic figures. Thanks.
Yeah I got to tell you I really really enjoyed the water moccasin when I received it new from Sears I think it was. Applying the decals and then getting many hours of play out of the thing and the fact that it floated was really cool too
Another great roll out of classic figures, I had a lot of Cobra characters on your list ( though I definitely would have added the B.A.T.S )with Storm Shadow being my all time favorite!
Dreadnoks were always the best, man now looking back i only had 1 crimson guard wish I had more.. man I love the poses you set up on every character I used to spend hours setting up the perfect pose's before we even played good ol days
I love the Dreadnoks! When they came out as figures, I think that was the last time I got REALLY excited about getting a new toy. I got a lot of toys after that, but Ripper, Buzzer, and Torch all on the same day was SUPER exciting for me! I excluded the Dreadnoks from this list as a separate organization or it would have left off most of the others!
Firefly and Storm Shadow were always my favorite. But I really love that I acquired mint complete with file card in all of Snow Serpent, Techno Viper and Eels…..I had them as kids! Great list!
excellent list! other than the crimson guard (never had one as a kid) being supplanted with scrap iron, and putting the viper at #1, my list would be identical.
Storm Shadow was my first real memory of peg disappointment. Must have gone to TRU every chance I could and did not find him. Once I did, loved all of the ways you could put weapons on his backpack. Still, Firefly will always be my favorite Cobra figure. I like that your reasoning includes how you used them, like the Crimson Guard was almost more character as you only had one. Or Cobra Commander was mostly in the base. As a kid I didn't have multiples, so, my Cobra would die, and then be a different Cobra. Still prefer the Officer, with the silver logo.
Favorite Cobra list. That's tough. All time favorite came late on the list with The Headman and his Bounty Hunters. The Bounty hunters looked awesome and I loved characters that had equipment that attached to them and they had sawed off shotguns. After that it would be Alley Viper BAT Night Viper Night Vulture Firefly Crock Master Tomax & Xamot Snow Serpent with a SNOWBOARD! Roddy Piper
I never had enough figures to make a top 10, but I can say my fave cobra figures were: Crimson Guard (my first cobra figure ever), B.A.T. (Lot of accessories!), Golobulus, Desert Scorpion. Always wanted Dr mindbender, classic Storm shadow, viper, regular cobra soldier and destro.
I had Tomax and Xamot but always wanted the crimson guard. My favorites that I had were snake eyes and storm shadow. Later it was any of the dreadnoughts.
Oh man what a great channel! Thank you for this brother! 86' was also the year I began to loose my passion for joes and began a passion for girls🤣❤️... by 87 I was long gone! That's why I'm collecting now! Keep up the good work brother and thank you!
I never got the og Stormshadow! I would look everywhere or even on family vacation. The only time I found Stormshadow, his accessories were gone from the packaging and so I passed on getting him. I did get the new Stormshadow though when it came out.
Well did not make your list at all, but Scrap Iron was my fav Cobra figure. Baroness and Firefly were next as favs and glad they were high on your list. I cannot believe Scrap Iron did not make your list, lol. Over the years many Cobra stood out as must have figures but the 3 mentioned were always my favourite.
I was never into G.I. Joe when I was a kid (I loved MOTU more), but I always found Cobra to be the much cooler looking characters, and sometimes secretly rooted for them. Wild Weasel, Storm Shadow, the Crimson Guard, the armored version of Cobra Commander, and the Vipers looked so much more awesome that doofuses like Ace, Chuckles, and many of the other Joes.
My favourite Cobras have always been the Crimson Guard. The name, the uniform, the eliteness of them... They barely even seemed like a part of Cobra. Every other Cobra unit was named after some kind of vermin, but when s**t got real, it was time to call in the CRIMSON GUARD. It's too bad that Classified devolved into just straight remakes of the originals, because it would have been nice to see Tomax and Xamot with a less ridiculous, actually Crimson Guardesque uniform :)
Storm Shadow was definitely the best...but many other cool ones were forgotten from this list: Zartan Destro (Both chrome and gold) Major Bludd The "Twins" Cobra Commander with battle armor
Well he does limit himself to 10, and mentions that he didn't include the Dreadnoks because he thinks of them as another faction. Zartan being their leader would exclude them. Same could be said of Destro too.
I actually never liked Tomax and Xamot. Zartan, I count as a Dreadnok and I didn't include them on this list, but Destro was close to being on here! There were so many that a limit of 10 is tough!
I had about 4 of the ones on your list, I loved that Viper figure that came out, it was definitely in my top 5! If I had to add my own entries to that list, I'd put Techno Viper, Motor Viper, battle armor Cobra Commander, Tele Viper, BAT, and Wild Weasel.
Omg, we love the same figures. My favorite is the crimson guard and iron grenadier.. plus I had a similar storm shadow story. But a coworker wanted to show me storm shadows sword in his truck.. no way was I going to look at another man's sword in his truck.
That '89 Night Viper is very cool! He was one of the last ones that I got as a kid and I still have him complete. He's on my list of videos that I'd like to make, but there are several figures ahead of him.
It would be cool to see a cobra commander figure where there are removable heads for both hooded cobra commander and the helmet. The Cobra Eel would make a great fan channel exclusive if it came with a clear stand that allowed you to have him in a sense float like he is in the water. Something like those stands that allow Superman to appear he is in the air. That type of stand would be what sells the figure. Like he is floating sideways and swimming. I could see it really popping on a shelf.
There actually are a few Cobra Commander figures with interchangeable heads. But not in the original o rings. The 4" figures had heads that popped off of a socket so interchangibg was easy.
As kid in the 80s, it always bugged me how they didn't keep some of the basic figures on the shelves over the years. I had missed on the regular Cobra trooper and while they were prominently featured on the TV show, I couldn't have one. Anyone who started playing with GIJoes in the late 80s/early 90s was stuck with mostly funky sci-fi figures and bright colors.
I read the comics so StormShadow was never a bad guy to me. V2 is my favorite GI Joe figure period. 10. Astro viper 9. Night creeper 8. Cobra commander 7. Cobra Solider 6. Viper 5. Night viper 4. Maj Bludd 3. Zartan 2. baroness 1. Destro
I guess I was lucky to have a Storm Shadow because we lived in Mexico and my dad brought it for me in one of his trips to Houston. Later I bought at least 2 more myself in the opportunities I had visiting the US
Given the amount of awesome figures to choose from, this was a great list. I can't even begin to think of a top ten list, but as a kid, and even now as an adult, the Hydro Viper is still my absolute favorite G.I. Joe figure and would easily be my #1. The design is otherworldly when compared to other Cobra figures, and they seem like they would fit in better with Cobra-La.
I love lists like this. Mine 1. Stormshadow 2. B.A.T.S 3. Crimson Guard 4. Both Cobra commanders 5. Zartan 6. Crimson twins 7. Cobra officer 8. Firefly 9. Serpentor 10 Destro Most of my favorites were cobra. I always thought they looked better. Other than Snake Eyes
I HAVE TONS of these figures, all the ones u showed and more even the ones that didnt have the swivel arms and all the damn vehicles including the gi joe base and aircraft carrier. yours look like they are in pretty good shape....how many times did you have to replace that rubber band haha BY THE WAY EVERYONE. look up GI Joe LIVE in youtube..there is a 24/7 non stop stream of all the cartoons, IN ORDER.
