@rwsthedemonking I don't believe you have played any of these games. Moss is a fully featured VR platformer, it's just short. Jet Island is of a genre that is more adventure than action and the gameplay comes from learning the mechanics, and Unknightly is a proper stealth game, it just simply lacks content atm. I don't know how you get the impression they're tech demos. What kind of non-VR games are you playing?

What I hate most about VR is their use of transportation. Teleporting is good to avoid sickness in new VR users, but it's more of an annoyance to an experienced VR player. I wanna walk.

I’ve only just got an Oculus Rift and I’m one of the lucky ones who just doesn’t get motion sickness. My first go on VR was a 3 hour stint in Dirt Rally. The only problem I had is when I took it off I felt slightly dizzy and disoriented but no sickness at all. So this bothers me greatly.

Niche one but: War Thunder. You can sit in the actual cockpit of a Spitfire, Mustang, Fockewulf, MiG, whatever, and dogfight... it just blew me away. Realistic flight models, great graphics, really good VR integration. In my first dogfight I got shot down, sure, but partially because I was giggling like an idiot at how cool it was. When I finally got a kill though, and saw all the little scraps of 109 tumbling through the air all around me as he went down... my heart was pounding and I was sweating.

You definitely need to find a friend with a HOTAS setup and play Elite: Dangerous in VR. The absolute massive scale of the ships you pilot and the stations/planets you can interact with makes it my #1, and my most played VR game.
@SambaJones97
@SambaJones97 5 лет назад
I have only ever played Elite in VR and i love it. Grabbed a HOTAS controller before i bought it too and downloaded a setup config. Once it just suddenly clicked how to fly, especially in battle, it was the most fun i've had in ages. The universe is beautiful to fly around in, but searching all over my cockpit for an enemy in the emptiness of space as I make a quick manouvere to avoid incoming fire before doubling back to shoot them down? Freaking epic

@JimankyGaming

Ehhhhhhhh I really don't like recommending Elite Dangerous to most people. It's a VERY niche market game that requires massive amounts of time invested to have a proper experience. For players that enjoy that kind of exploration and grind, there is literally NO better game on the market. But for most people? I'd give it a hard pass for them.
@krudmonger

I bought Elite Dangerous specifically for VR, and it looks amazing, but it is the one VR game where I almost immediately get nauseous, thanks mostly to my poor piloting skills. (It'd probably be better with a HOTAS.)

Hey there! That's an awesome selection, I even discovered some games I never heard about (NeverBound and Unknightly do seem great), so thank you! About Beat Saber, as everyone, I highly recommend modding it. Now it is really easy, as it has a Mod Manager (pretty much like Nexus for Skyrim). Beat Saber is awesome, but it definitely has a *huge lack of content* without the mods. Luckily, mods are here to fix it, which makes this game almost perfect. - Want to change the colors? You can! (I have a Slytherin color theme, lol) - Want more songs to discover? You have hundreds of them available! - Want different lightsabers? There are lots of them! - Want an actual avatar? You can! (Well, I think this one doesn't work with the latest updates of the game... I need to check). - The third person view, with Mixed Reality, can make exceptional streamings/recordings! Personally, I would say Elite:Dangerous is my favourite VR game. I always call it a "space Skyrim", as there is so much to do in this game: exploration, battles, mining, various missions, character editing... It definitely feels like Skyrim in space. Also, the ships are numerous and there are *tons* of different components to equip the ship with (including weapons, shields, electronics, pressurization stuff, small robots for repairing or missile interception, planet/stars analysis, engines, ........). I spent dozens of hours on this game and barely scratched the surface of what can be done. Dead Effect 2 VR is also very unknown, yet it is by far the best zombie VR game (even better than Arizona Sunshine). There are tons of different weapons and a full campaign, with multiplayer modes (battles and coop). It is also fully voiced. And it's a RPG, meaning there is a lot of upgrading stuff. Definitely one of the most complete VR games out there.

Personally Jet Island is my all time favourite game. I know that the graphics are fairly rudimentary and I am picky as hell about graphics, but the game play once you have mastered the controls is absolutely a blast. The sheer scale of the game, killing the drones and defeating the bosses is unparalleled imo.

Good stuff man. I agree on Skyrim. Although it’s fun using the 2 handheld devises, I like to use the Axis controller to get around. A lot of people complain about getting sea sick & motion sickness but, I have not once experienced this in this game. Although I have in Farpoint, a lot! I have pretty much all the VR games from Werewolve’s Within to RE, Skyrim & everything in between. Skyrim is my go to game to go to for getting away from reality & enjoy stunning graphics & VR gameplay. Listen to me. I sound like a damn salesman. man, i have psvr with Skyrim and how do you adjust to seeing everything that is more than 3 cm from your face, blurry? I have tons of games in VR now and most of them are a disapointment. FarPoint was 'fun' as i start playing it, but the lame terrible story, the lack of interresting stuff to discover (nothing really), and lack of ...everything, just let me wonder... So how can you say Skyrim is fun?... I have played Skyrim since ps3 and probably more than 300 hours, but in VR, probably less than 20. This blurry experience just hurt my eyes...
@pokerfacemonks
@pokerfacemonks 5 лет назад
@@jessikapiche6097 hmmm, not sure what's going on with the blurriness. I haven't had that issue. I didnt play Skyrim on the PS3. I had it for the PC and loaded a trainer which pretty much put me in God Mode. So. I zipped through the storyline and only touched upon a few side quests, mainly only the Thieves Guild and What ever the Guild was that Murdered people. Ha ha. I'm a stealth character. So, with the Skyrim VR I have the 2 expansions that came with it and it's taking me on a lot of different adventures that I didnt see on the PC version. As far as the blur issue. You have all the VR headset parameters set properly? You can go into the PS4 and and also adjust the eye width, etc. as well as the hardware on the VR unit itself.
@jessikapiche6097
@jessikapiche6097 5 лет назад
I would love someone else to answer you here, just to prove my point... Like i said, i have now tons of VR game for psvr and Skyrim VR was always a problem and i am not the only one stating this. A lot of people have said that it is the worst port to VR game. Now don't get me wrong, i love Skyrim, but the VR version is so blurry that i prefer to use my ps3 game (which is the normal version) and use the cinema move in my helmet just to get the big screen and play THAT normal Skyrim game INSTEAD. Playing normal Skyrim on a big screen, even if it is flat, is much better then the VR Version. Unless, there was a major upscale done lately that i am not aware of???!!! I don't know but i do remember Skyrim VR had very bad reviews before which is why I am so surprise to hear those 'great' review here about the VR version here!...

Skyrim will keep you busy for years if you learn to mod it, it's super easy, and nearly all the Skyrim SE mods work with Skyrim VR. In fact, Mods are pretty much the reason the game is still relevant. There is even a version of Skyrim Script Extender for VR. You can't use regular Skyrim mods, they need to be Special Edition mods. The only thing that doesn't work that great currently is mods that affect the UI [which includes Perk tree mods]. It's being worked on, but they haven't quite figured it out yet as far as I know. Check out the Skyrim SE Nexus, and use the Vortex program to mod Skyrim VR. It's simple to use and will tell you if one thing is conflicting with another and let you decide which to use. Texture mods may have an impact on performance, depending on how big they are. They also only impact visuals and are pretty hard to screw up. You're usually pretty safe with 2k texture mods as it will have next to no impact on performance most of the time. Just watch out for 4k mods with Skyrim VR, too many will tank your FPS fast, even on decent hardware. Start with SMIM [Skyrim Mesh Improvement Mod] and build off of that. Other mods will add items, quests, companions, enemies, npcs, starting from a new place and not having to go through the intro sequence again, and all sorts of other things. Adding quests and companions is highly recommended. Some companions and quests are even fully voiced with unique dialogue and new mechanics [most companion mods just use the vanilla follower voices with some tweaks.]. Check out Sofia, Inigo, Song of the Green, Vilja, and Recorder, all of them have entirely new voicework and feature unique quests. You can add all of them to your current game and it won't break anything. Add in a Multiple Followers mod as well, so you can have more than one of them tag a long at once. Some of them will even talk to each other and other companion NPCs. You'll also need to find all of them in the game world, they don't just appear with your character because you have them installed. [Avoid mods like Advanced Follower Tweaks with these fully voiced characters, you can have them both installed and it won't break anything, but do not use the mod's options to do anything to these characters. They have their own behavior scripts that are different from normal in game followers and mods like Advanced Follower Tweaks can break their scripting.] It's best to finish a playthrough of Skyrim before getting into modding outside of maybe adding some textures to make it look nicer and maybe add a few companions. It's easy to "break" Skyrim by over modding it. This is easily undone though as you can install and uninstall mods with Vortex. However, you may not be able to use the saves from your modded game if you take things out. Usually you'll be fine, but occasionally having to remove mods means starting over depending on what they do. You also might want to consider a lighting mod. You can make the dungeons darker and scarier, nights more realistically dark, and even improve how interiors look. Making things like Night Eye, Torches, and Light Spells required for dungeon diving. At any rate, definitely check out the modding scene for Skyrim VR. It will add a ton of replay value to the game. Once you've finished with Skyrim VR in a standard vanilla playthrough, get ye to Google and learn how to mod it.

Thanks for the great comment. I was wondering whether I should get Skyrim VR, since I heard many negative comments about both Skyrim and Fallout 4 VR, but it sounds like it's an actually amazing game.
@contrabardus
@contrabardus 5 лет назад
@@Blackstag-jq7jx Fallout 4 is broken. Skyrim is great. Fallout is kind of odd, as it was sort of a test for VR. It's fun and all, but buggier than normal and can be a pain to run because it's not optimized well. I don't recommend picking it up unless you're a huge Fallout fan and absolutely must play FO4 in VR. Fallout 4 only includes the standard game and none of the DLC. There's a workaround for it [you basically just transfer the DLC files over to Fallout VR from regular FO4], but you won't be able to complete Atomatron. You can actually use safe files from Fallout 4 Vr with standard Fallout 4, so you can do that part of the quest in regular Fallout and then go back to VR. However, if you have it heavily modded this might cause issues unless you mod both games the same way. Skyrim is much more polished and complete. It's still buggy because it's Bethesda, but is a lot more user friendly and optimized better.

When i booted up skyrim for the first time, the controls were klunky and worked like ass, the menus were hard to get the hang of and you dont rwally have a tutorial to go off of and you can just go around mindlessley killing main characters and never complete the story. I got to the starting village (idk the name) and i had no idea what to do. I ended up going around to random peoples hoses and robbing them of their apples and meat just to see the character respawn after leaving the room. The combat is just a hack and slash without any depth when you're fighting a skeleton and just move your arms a couple of times where in a game like gorn, the combat is much more immersive. And also the graphics were a 4.5/10 for vr. This might just be me tho
@potatomanmrhandle
@potatomanmrhandle 5 лет назад
@@mechanicalmove1732 Skyrim is literally known as one of the games that hold your hands the most.. If you couldn't figure out how to progress that's on you. Oh and btw it's also known for not letting you kill important npc's, people get annoyed by it but you can't fuck up the quests. As for the graphics, it's a 8 year old game,just download some 4k mods and stuff. For combat, yes melee is horrible but it has the best magic combat in any vr game and archery is not half bad either. If you are interested you should look at some guides on how to improve your experience, it quite honestly is the best vr game out there at the moment, it just needs some user tweeks to make it good for each individual person.

Thank you for the reviews - actually helpful. Just a note, what you called Gregorian Chant music is anything but. Gregorian Chant is single line, as in everyone either sings in unison or in at most octaves. What played when you called it gregorian chant was Miserere Mei by Allegri, a lush, polyphonic (as in, people singing multiple different lines simultaneously) piece of harmonic music. Some sections are sung in unison, specifically the bridges, but that does not make it Gregorian Chant - Gregorian Chant is more than just "old timey classical choir music".

can you say why? i looked at Astrobot and it looks like a game for childreen to me. Where is a game of space exploration that is good on VR, or show me a Skyrim game that is not Blurry as fuck, or a Civilisation Game that is VR, etc... but nope... here is the new game; ASTROBOT!!! it's cute, have no textures, feel like Nintendo games... no thanks, man.

envious of your virgin skyrim experience in VR. i bought it on PSVR on release and i just couldnt help thinking i wish i didnt know this game like the back of my hand. still an awesome experience though. now i'm considering playing it again in pcvr just to get the better visuals, and mods. i always try to start a new character in skyrim doing something i havent done before but i always gravitate to a stealth archer, thieves guild build hahaha i just cant help myself.

Hey Ben, if you like Moss so much, you *really* should get a PSVR, so you can add Astrobot on there (Wipe out too!) - trust me, it will melt your insides!. I like that you include a 'hidden gem' towards the end. There are so many really great VR games that no one talks about - how about a top ten 'hidden gems list? (Totally agree with you comments on Skyrim btw). Nice Video, even if it missed a few of my own top 10 ;-)
@BenPlaysVR
@BenPlaysVR 5 лет назад
Thanks! Yeah, PSVR is getting some pretty great exclusives. It's totally tempting. Just gotta convince my wife that I can buy more hardware. 😝And I really like the idea of a hidden gems list, I'll write that down. Cheers!

@@DOGroove are Wipeout tracks 3D stereoscopic or 2D. I heard rumors they are 2D and I'm thinking of getting a PSVR because of Wipeout. Is everything 3D?
@JohnSmith-sk7cg
@JohnSmith-sk7cg 5 лет назад
Redout on PC is more or less the same thing as Wipeout if you want to play Wipeout without PSVR. It's also fully stereoscopic (not sure if Wipeout is, but saw someone mention that Wipeout might not be in this thread).
@ChristopherJGould
@ChristopherJGould 5 лет назад
I love Redout in 2D - thought it was real jankey and gameplay too chaotic when transferred to VR, nowhere near as solid and polished as wipeout imo - you can see how much more thought the wipeout team put into the transition to VR in terms of gameplay and graphics. Still - Redout is my fave Wipeout clone in 2D and well worth picking up.

Wow - I'm on the PSVR side of things, and I had no idea that they made The Talos Principal into a VR game. Only the '2D version' is available on PS4, and it's damn good. Kinda' jelly the VR stuff never came to PS4...
