I think about this everyday. I know it isn't good but it's true. I just can't help it. I won't be satisfied until I know the truth....although we probably won't truly know the truth in this lifetime until it's too late, which is sad. I really hope there is life after death. I just cant bear the idea of nothingness. It's beyond crushing. Anyone else feel the same here?

@@thecatonacouch9371 The fact that her own mother died from a heart attack just 6 days after she died made the situation even worse because it meant that I had to attend 2 funerals within a 2 week time span. I also had to deal with my uncles taking their mother's inheritance for themselves instead of sharing it with the other members of their family. My uncles were originally expected to share their inheritance but they refused to do it and they made it clear that the money is the only thing that mattered to them. You don't want to deal with 2 deaths and your own family members stabbing you in the back while you're going through the grieving process.

I guess I have never thought about it this way, but you are correct. Even though we don't know what there is, it feels wrong to think that there's just nothing. I say this not out of a fear of death, but as you put it, scientifically it just doesn't make the most logical sense. I always knew that it felt wrong for everything to just end, but until now, I didn't quite grasp why it felt wrong. Thank you for that

We don't know what's beyond death but it's certain that consciousness continues, as an atheist I do also believe in life after death, it is a natural law that you can't make something out of nothing and nothing out of something, so is the case of consciousnes, the brain is only a mask on which we look through the human experience, when it dies we shift to another dimmension of reality not remembering what human is or what we were, just like we don't remember what we were before this life...the universe is eternal, it has no beginning nor end and we are an expression of that, therefore we are the universe and we don't cease to exist ever.

What if, every time we die our consciousness is automatically transfered to a parallel universe 99.9% similar to ours in which we didn't die and we keep doing this until our body is old enough and die from old age 678 parallel worlds later. So to us most "close calls" we had in our lives were actually accidents/diseases in which we really did die.

That is identical to the version of reality where those near misses are really near misses, just with parallel universes where you did die. If you're transferring to yourself in another reality then transferring and not transferring are the same thing as this version of yourself exists simultaneously with the 'original' version of yourself.

But from perspective of other people who we are asleep, we are still breathing, and can be woken up anytime, and thats not the case with death, so its not that we are dead while we are sleeping, we just have our brain resting, and getting charged up for next day.

It's beliefs like these that made me realize how religion only really existed to manipulate others for power and dominance. After all, the fear of death is something that is natural for any human being, thus providing comfort in claiming that "You'll be in paradise if you follow what's written here" is the very basis of how any sort of manipulation starts, be it from dictating how and what to wear, what you should/shouldn't believe, or worse: twist it in ways that would be used to commit acts of terrorism. I was sent to a catholic school as a child and for the most part being a dumb kid I ate quite a lot of it up. It wasn't until I was much older that I started to rethink why I was taught these things. What awaits me after death? I'd rather not know because I'd prefer to live this life now to the fullest rather than live a life dictated by someone else based of "something someone probably heard and wrote it down" Besides if I knew, then one could fathom the very reason as to why you'd want to keep living this live, something you really DO NOT want to do. After all what would happen if you took your own life only to realize what you were promised was far worse than what you were promised. If there is anything at all.

The eternal return theory is downright depressing, especially for those needlessly tortured or enslaved. That means the universe could be a meaningless nothing void of any direction and our ultimate damnation, because damnation is the lack of progression. And in another reality, I go to prison for a crime I did or didn't commit, and I get raped and/ or murdered. What's the point to keep living forever with no recollection of anything? That would mean the universe is a joke about nothing accomplishing nothing. It would be a great tragedy that no one would truly recognize without memory of anything else.

Yeah I agree, it's sad to think we were destined to live a certain lifestyle and just to relive the same process without knowing where we will go next. +What Happen? Not that confident in your deeds, but more confident in how you're living? I don't share your sentiment, but to each their own. Some religions believe that hell can exist in an earthen paradise; it's the state of mind you're in that makes it hell. Hell is a place of suffering, but the term damnation describes lack of progression and eternal stillness. I guess we'll find out either way in the end... or not, if eternal return or a void of nothing is true.

I remember what my Mom told me. She was poisoned when she was In college, she almost died because of it. She told me that While being Unconscious she saw nothing but light and cloud/smoke then she starts walking around but still she sees nothing but light.. she starts running until she got tired and she said "I just wanna go back" then she woke up... She sees my Grandma and her friends crying beside the Hospital Bed and there was a Priest praying for her the she asked "what happened?" Grandma said "You almost Die... My beliefs are similar to reincarnation. Every life you go through is a new teaching and when you die you become a spirit until it is time to be rebirn again. Another belief is that if you commit suicide then when you are reborn you just repeat the same life again. There is no way in hell I'm doing this life again.

I figure that while our existence ends when we die, our existence still, well, exists in a fixed span of time. Once time travel, cybernetics and mind uploading exist, a future society could retrieve anyone who has ever existed and bring them forward to rejoin the world. Sort of a combination of reincarnation and digital afterlife.

Man, every night when I lay down my bed and just before sleeping, i am thinking if i die, am i going to be just nothing or be in a void of nothingness or will there be a life after death like heaven or hell waiting. It makes me frightened all the more that if i don't get my beliefs or my actions right since I am running out of time, I might end up in a hellish after life where I cannot escape. Fuck man!

There are major flaws in most of theories about afterlife. 1. They're human centric, if you want to convince me your afterlife is THE afterlife you can't exclude everyone who doesn't live on this planet, and you can't tell me about an "underworld" since it's entirely based on earth. 2. All these religions originate from one idea. Christianity and islam came from judaism. There was one major belief in the ancient world and people throughout the years have "reimagined" it (aka if those ancient people didn't come up with something like an underwold, we wouldn't have it in today's religions). God and gods are a sham. The ancient didn't know any better so they came up with something to explain things and somehow we managed to drag this shit to the 21st century.

I think when we die, since dmt is released in our brains we just have a never ending trip. You can take dmt and the high will last ten minutes but people say it feels like hours, and you even lose all sense of self. So what is for those few seconds that dmt is released you hallucinate a never ending high.

A theory that's bizarre but satisfying- There are many games which provide you the “after losing” view of the game such as hide and seek from Roblox. That is, after you die, you would be confined to a room, and have three choices. 1) You can just live there and make friends. 2) You can spectate the “game” (here, the world) 3) You can explore the life of a select person by their narrative, that is how they feel, what they think, etc. Probably, my ancestors are here, spectating my perspective, and thinking, “wow, she figured this out.”

My theory is that after we die we get reborn on a different world and we still have the knowledge we had on this earth but we have no way to inform this earth we live on today what happens so this is level one and you just keep on moving up levels after you die so next would be world 2 then 3 and so on it is mind boggling just how little we actually know maybe our whole world is sitting in a jar In some aliens room on a science project that got a c- it’s so crazy

what if the moment we die...our brain process information so fast...just like when we are on a fight or flight situation, and as we enter this stage we perceive that time slows down exponentially and we are endlessly stuck in this suspended state as if it was forever(be it reliving our life as flashbacks or thinking that we are in heaven already)...but in reality it was just mere seconds until we cease to exist

Hmmm, My take is when you die, Your conscience remains but it is only what you make of it at the moment of death regardless of what you believed in up until you die. Sorta like when you try to sleep, thinking of nothing and wake up the next day whereas other times you close your eyes and actively think of something and dream of that "something". That said, When you die if you're unaware or too focused on the struggle of staying alive, there will be nothing and your conscience will provide just that for eternity when would be everlasting darkness, no sound or anything. Dying peacefully while actively thinking of a "What if" scenario would allow your conscience to live out that dream until you realize it's a dream and it fades to black. But that's my internet response, Ask me this in real life and i'd probably say "It depends on what you believe in" effectively dodging the fuck out of that depressing question.

You ever think about dying like laying in bed you just imagine your self in a box cold surrounded by nothing the world carrying on around you. My heart starts to skip and flutter my throat gets dry sometimes I even start to gag and dry-heave if I think about it too in depth one time I actually threw up from the thought but then I have to remind myself that I'm only having these thoughts because I'm alive and I'm healthy and I eventually forget about it.

In a sense, we do continue on. Our atoms don't simply vanish. Maybe over millions of years, our atomic particles make up the network of neurons in someone, or something, else's brain. What does this actually mean for the "you" reading this? Probably nothing, as my brain might have particles from some other creatures brain from millions of years ago, but I don't believe I have its consciousnous in line. We will all die, and then we'll know for sure.

What you are going through is the brain's inability to imagine nothingness because it is the very antithesis of our being. In a way, we are bargaining for our own consciousness to remain because we have no other choice but to deny the most likely outcome - that when we die, our consciousness, which has shown no reason to be anything more but a byproduct of our intelligence, must die with it. It's the basis from which most religions are formed, our fear of death. Nowadays, we choose to live in denial in other ways, I myself hope that advances in medical science allow us to become biologically immortal, or at the very least, our consciousness somehow transferred to a less fragile form. I know it's far fetched, but I cannot start beliving in afterlives we have no evidence for, so I settle for the most rational irrational belief.

I know millions of people who would disagree with you. The patriarchical hierarchy set up in Genesis was used throughout Christendom as proof that women should be submissive to men. 18th and 19th century English writings detailing a woman's place in society are filled with quotes from Genesis.
