I actually like having fog of war, but the game needs to make it fair to the player. The reason fog of war maps are heralded as the worst is because the player isn't exactly given enough tools to properly navigate the unknown (they're often paired with restrictive terrain, such as the river in Radiant Dawn that halts everyone's movements and makes the Black Knight useless, the first gaiden map in Eliwood's story that makes the bridges connecting the map depend on enemy action, or Engage's castle where Grag will use Celica's emblem to hide near your units and one shot them with the super attack when you least expect and chances are even the Torch staff doesn't reach the one tile he's hiding in). That said, Radiant Dawn had a few fog of war maps that I much enjoyed, those being the Part 3 first two maps, where you start using the Greil mercenaries and the enemies do not represent a threat to you unless you go out of your way to put Mist and Rolf in the front without any care in the world, and the second one where you can have torches lit and a clear division between the two halves that allow you to position your ranged units to attack the enemies on the other side. The 3rd one I enjoyed, in Part 4, comes right after the game gives you Mist's promotion item, allowing you to use Torch to scout the area and return a few tiles to safety, plus Nailah is strong enough to deal with enemies on her own in one flank. You also have your campsite's bonfire, which covers a good portion of the top of the map, so you will never be caught unware of enemy spawns from inside the camp. Fog of War maps can be fun, it is all a matter of the game balancing vision as a resource with the terrain and resources the game gives to you prior, allowing you to strategize on how to best acquire vision.

In defense of the lone Cantor and his boat, that map is a good example of tutorializing. The map is simple, with a single enemy that uses a unique mechanic not seen up to that point. With the way the map is designed, it takes about three turns to actually attack the Cantor. This gives him enough time to demonstrate how his AI works: He prioritizes summoning terrors, but will not do so on some occasions (I believe it's based on the number of terrors he's already summoned, as the player has a hard cap of 8 for Genny's summoned units too). And lastly, while he will counterattack your party, I don't believe he will move or attack on his own, and instead chooses to summon more terrors or do nothing. Finally, even if the player does engage the revenants he summons, it's highly likely that they'll attempt to kill the Cantor before finishing them all off since he'll just keep summoning more. This reveals that when a Cantor dies, all of their summoned units will vanish. All of this information is vital to understanding how Cantors work, since they become much more frequent the further into the game you get, and in some cases are much more frustrating to deal with than a lone Cantor on a boat. The other boat maps suck hard, though. At least they're over quickly, though.

I'd have to agree. As manga said in his gaiden abridged, it's pretty ominous that there's only one unit, and it's genius how the tension builds so much because the summoning is paused until Celica and her party get close.

Yeah the map isn't that hard on normal but on hard mode nearly had to restart the chapter because I'm trying to not use milla's turnwheel that cantor 2 shotted my entire party with the terrors making a good job finishing the work so I had to set up a turn where I could one round ko him because he also has an ability that helps him recover hp every turn which combined with the supplies means a 10hp recovery per turn that I'm not attacking him

While I didn't mind boat maps at all (and was surprised to find out people hated them) I definitely hated that one. My frustration with cantors was never really the cantors--it was the terrain they camp on. Especially since in the early game it isn't uncommon to have your ranged units' Display Hit chance in the 40% range and melee units are swinging at around 70-%, and it becomes laughable when your opponent is sitting on a Tile, Supplies, or Gravestone. Magic is usually the best way to deal with terrain in the early game, but Cantor resistance is so bulky that Supplies can potentially heal back most of the damage you've done. So even hitting the cantor was basically "pick a god and pray," and it wasn't uncommon for me to spend my entire turn trying to hit him with nearly every unit and only hit him twice. And the units with the physical power to take respectable chunks off his health don't have the resistance to avoid losing even more significant chunks of their own health. And Valbar will suicide if you attack with him unless you're really, really certain the cantor will get hit and die. Hard Mode enemy bulk is just really weird, especially in the early game. The map is basically "Saber, I really need you to stop messing around and hit this guy." The part that really frustrates me is that later cantors don't present these frustrations. Your archers build accuracy and range, your mercs become dreadfighters and build resistance and start critting reliably, you gain forged weapons and do much damage, you recruit pegis and can even quickly promote one. But against the boat cantor you just have...Turnwheel, I guess. It's just a culmination of so many of the things that are minor inconveniences on their own, but they work together to make the first Cantor-on-Supplies a serious pain in ass. I wouldn't have minded half as much if they introduced him in Act 3 or 4 and just made him or his summons stronger. The fact that the cantor is the only enemy on the map isn't even a criticism in this case. It's a mercy.

I'll be honest, I don't think there's anything wrong with Celica's path map design, they're intelligently designed to favor the enemies you face, not you, which makes sense. Yes, the desert map has a bunch of archers. Why? Because they make incredibly good use of the terrain to provide a tactical puzzle for you to solve. How do you draw them out and deal with them? The single cantor on a boat, I honestly thought was incredibly well done. It's the first time they introduce that unit, and it vary easily shows you how much of a threat a singe one of these guys can be, and how much they influence the battle field. It drives home the fact you need to respect cantors, especially once you learn they can summon more then just zombies, and can vary quickly lead to a character's death if you're not careful. If he had 6 other mages on the map, it wouldn't really paint the picture of if it was him, or the mages + meat shields that was the issue, and it's a safe level to introduce a mechanic that could seriously trash a new player if they weren't expecting it The toxic swamps? Again, it provides a challenging situation. How do you safely get across, get your units a footing on the other side, and control the cantor spawns? It's the first map that really makes fantastic use of the cleric's healing aura, since it EXACTLY counter's out the swamp's damage output. Going through this list, I strongly disagree with almost all of your issues when it comes to map design. I don't know if you're just not looking for challenge when you play a tactics Rpg, but the point of these maps is to make you think, to shuffle up the situation and encourage problem solving. If there's a mechanic in echoes worth criticism, I feel it's the witches. The ONLY reason those things are tolerable is because the AI is too brain dead to be effective. They're a slot machine that can on a whim drop unit's with low resist with really no counter play beyond slowly crawling your way through maps until they're out of play. I really disliked them, mainly because they're not a problem to solve, or a mechanic to interact with. They'll teleport in, and when they do, you hope they don't kill someone and then kill them. Not really that fun.
@CanofArizona
@CanofArizona 5 лет назад
The way I see it while the map design in echoes isn't as good as some of the other entries in the series, I feel it emphasizes class roles much more like a traditional rpg. I always found myself using (almost) all my units for different purposes to beat each map. This is why I don't consider echoes map design a bad thing, but I can see why others would. Like you said witches were not well designed and were too much of a gamble to form a strategy around to beat. You just had to pray they didn't one shot your low res units. Also maps like storming duma's tower and Nuibaba's abode I disliked but most of the game I thought was fine.

I really get the feeling from Gaiden (through the form of SoV) was really trying out different ways to work with the mechanics and wasn't just "Oops, forgot how to make maps." I think an early example that people will often point to as weirdly bad is the map where you're hanging out on the right side and way in the top left after looking through a bunch of empty space there's just 3 cavs. While at first this seems weird and obnoxious because you get the feeling you'll need to go over there, if you think about it it becomes clear that the idea is that these cav are meant to be reinforcements, they just didn't want to surprise you with them. They wanted to encourage the player to not turtle and deal with the enemies in front of them somewhat quickly without just making it a complete surprise 3 or 4 turns after the map started. It's not a very hard map, and I doubt even if the cavs did show up earlier it would change that, but it's also something like the 2nd or 3rd map in the game, so can't be too harsh there.
@boodabear5575

Happy Kanye Yeah, Echoes’ map design takes too much from Gaiden. At the very least, they could’ve changed a few things up, and changed some bigger mechanics to really change up the way you play (There are already huge things that change it up, but I think what I meant is obvious,). And I agree with the whole witches thing. They should’ve made them like Fates’ witches, where they can teleport adjacent to an ally, which is admittedly pretty easy, or hell, they’d still be much more fair yet somewhat difficult if they only were able to teleport within a certain vicinity of an ally, like a couple space range. It could give them terrifying mobility if your army is divided and fighting from multiple sides, but still keep it fair other than, “Hoho I can teleport wherever and kill whoever I want.”

Then you get to Jedah, a cantor who summons said self replicating eyeball monsters. He summons about 4-6 of them, then they start multiplying on their own! Consider this criticism for future videos: -It takes too long to reach the actual list in this half-hour video. The beginning contains needless P5 references and weak jokes that could be cut to get to the main content. -Too many limitations. Why are optional maps excluded? A bad map is bad whether you have to play it or not. Eliminating Awakening altogether isn't well justified either, since abusing mechanics to cheese through a lame map doesn't fix the lameness. (On a side note, someone unfamiliar with your channel could infer from Awakening's exclusion and your avatar being Robin that you're showing favoritism toward it.) -Too much viewer-attacking. It's reasonable to want your commenters to be courteous, but starting the video with such ire against people who may or may not be watching isn't a good look. The attention span insults aren't really warranted. I didn't watch your previous video, so demanding that I know your typical rules isn't fair. -Gradual escalation to the point of absurdity. As the list goes on, you start cramming too many maps into single slots, which undermines the value of each slot. This video isn't a Top 10 Worst, it's a Top 50 Worst. I won't argue with your thoughts on Revelation and Echoes, but those should've been made into a separate video entirely. @Gerd0
@Gerd0 5 лет назад
Can you really consider the gaiden maps in FE6 to be optional though? You can't get the true ending and last few maps of the game if you don't do them. I'd more say they're missable, because unlike FE7, when you get them it doesn't ask if you want to them. I don't feel like ignoring Awakening maps for this list was the way to go because there are definitely some maps that stand out. Like what about the couple of maps where once you get to a certain part of it, the every enemy on the map rushes you and you basically have to restart because you probably didn't expect it? And I certainly wouldn't say the Mila Tree can be mostly invalidated by pair up. The flier reinforcements from the sides arw actually unfair because they cover way too much of the map, and you probably aren't going out of your way just to pair up your healers. Conquest Endgame is a bit too hard for its own good, but that's slightly made up for by the fact that you can do it in one or two turns with rescue skipping the whole thing. Though I still agree with its inclusion on this list just because of having to waste your time replaying chapter 27 every single time. Everything else I have an issue with I can agree to disagree. Great video.
@Gerd0
@Gerd0 5 лет назад
@TheDealSealer I get what you're saying, but by not doing them, you're not getting the bad ending, but a premature one, because chapters 23, 24 and the final one are never thought of as optional maps. I don't know if you've played it, but saying you beat FE6 when you stopped after chapter 22 is just like saying you beat SMTIV after doing the White ending. At least the ending with Fae gone or Roy not killing Idoun still requires you to get to the final map.

There actually some really good maps, namely the map with Rudolph in it and the other castle map where you enter from the right side if memory serves. All the other maps are either open, boring garbage, boat maps, cantor or magic filled bullshit, Bow knights behind walls so all you can do is slowly chip away with whoever you chose as your archer, filled with movement restrictions, one tile choke points, or if you're lucky, a combination of those. It doesnt help that hit rates are pretty bad and enemy groups are just 10 of the same thing being thrown at you. Its just plain bad design. oh yeah and Revelations is just dumb gimmicky garbage that makes me want to die. Plain and simple frustration

The final castle of Chapter 1 in FE4. Sigurd's horse brigade moves 1 square at a time through the giant forest, you have to keep a squishy healer up front to recruit Midir's Killer Bow, Lex doesn't have his brave axe, and has to take a side path that prevents him from really contributing to the enemies guarding the castle to get said brave axe, and the boss can't even fight back because of deirdre's silence, but has an essential Magic Ring that Alec needs to make magic swords work on promo, so you just end up waiting for him to finish off the boss after Sigurd weakens him since he has no way to defend himself after deirdre silences him.

Great video! I do have to disagree about one map though. Radiant Dawn 3-6 is genuinely one of my favorite maps in the entire series. Maybe I’m giving the RD dev staff too much credit, but I think the fact that the Dawn brigade units are so bad was totally intentional. 3-6 is supposed to be a desperate struggle just to get by. There are plenty of choke points and none of the enemies can attack at range, so the map revolves around you managing your units that can just barely tank the Laguz coming at you, and picking them off slowly. It’s basically a glorified survive map until the black knight shows up, at which point you basically auto-win. I can understand your frustration with it, but personally I think they nailed what they were trying to accomplish with that map.

Please enlighten me on how can you possibly approach ten archers using two flying unit with a paper thin defense, because those two were useless for that entire map for me. The only way to play that map is to summon and while the archers are busy killing the summons you use your two archers to pick them off. On my first play through, using no DLC, that was the only way to beat that map. With DLC, it's still the same strategy, only this time I have mage rings equip so my mages can act like pseudo archer to reach the enemy without putting themselves in range for three arrow on the enemy phase, and the archers are using killer bow so that the map took 10 turns instead of 35. Saying that they destroy the map when they only get to attack the outskirts seems like an over statement. And like I said, you can easily finish any map in 10 turns if you have DLCs installed. All you need for the Dawn Bridage in part 3 is Miciah, Sothe, Zihark, Voloug, Jill, and maybe Nolan, (Laura is nice but unnessessary) only two of which need EXP to be ready to go in part 3 (and honestly if your not dumping all your Bexp and stat boasters onto Jill then you aren't playing well).

Haha! This is so fucking hilarious. I mean, maaaaaan we have opposite definitions of bad. I LOVED most the chapters you mentioned because they are the hardest chapters of these games. I Fucking Love Radiant Dawn and Fates Conquest for how batshit hard they are. The dificulty makes me try to find better tactics. For an example, on Radiant Dawn, I learned that it's a good idea to have Zihark and Nolan become best friends. They are both earth affinity, which means the support will give both of them a lot of Avo (I think it's 45 avo at max sup lv, idk. I know it's a ludicrous number), which goes a FUCKING LONG way in making the Dawn Brigade chapters easier. Zihark becomes nearly unhittable, and even if he does get hit, he is, unlike Edward, bulky enough to survive until he gets healed, and Nolan is just very hard to kill with the sup bonus + his natural bulk. And since neither of them have problems with attacking, I have myself a very reliable duo to frontline stuff. In "A reason to fight", for an example (A chapter which I love, btw), I usually have both of them take on the north end of the northern side of the battle. They turtle for a turn or two, until the bulk of the enemy attack is gone, then they advance. Sothe + the rest of the glass canon brigade can handle the east end. Before Poe's law happens, don't get me wrong, I'm not trying to be negative, I enjoyed the video, and I like your channel a lot, I'm just amazed about how people hate some of my favorite maps of all time for the exact reasons I love them so much.

Chapter 2 too hard or annoying? Boo hoo. Sure it's based on luck to get the Knight Ring, but at least that's the first thing you do in the chapter. So that's an easy reset if things don't go well. Not fast enough to reach the Bargain Band Village? Then go faster. You've got Sigurd and Quan to rush right up to the first castle to Seize. Have to zigzag? Return Band is a droppable item in that chapter, and the Return Staff was available the chapter before. Plus, who the hell would send all their units to a dead end? Splitting the army is a thing. Erin being the only one to take care of the Ballistae? There's an easier way, use the other characters to take out the reinforcements and use Sigurd to defeat the boss and seize the castle. Messed up? Well... There's something called a Save Feature that can be done at any time. It's almost like a consequential Divine Pulse. Don't treat FE4 maps like other Fire Emblem maps, because FE4 encourages Macro thinking instead of the others in the series.

@@mcihay246 alright, I'm gonna start to refuse some bullshit you just said: 1-First, you can't do that way easy, I mean, in order to get to the village you can surely send Holyn(if he has reached the castle) or Finn with a Brave Lance and Quan, that way you call the Mounted enemies attention and you have to first killing them(saying if you don't kill them in Enemy Phase, will, not gonna happen) and later, send Quan alongside the other unit whereas the Ruffians appears, and not only that, you are saying:"Send Sigurd", but, do you remember that Sigurd MUST seize the castle, therefore, being a little to far away?, that simplely does not work. 2-The Return Band does not work like you are saying, dumbass, and the Return Staff neither works as you are saying, that's the Warp Staff. 3-Well, and also you can attack the ballistaes with Sigurd, Quan, Jamke, Midir, Azel and other 2 ranged units that can attack a single ballistae, but after all, you can also simplely walk over the damn ballistaes leaving Aidenn and Deirdre behind. But yeah, most of the Ballistaes you need to kill them with Ferris. 4-Sure the Auto-save feature can work, but sometimes it doesn't work, but if you are good enough and save when is safe, good. But still, this is a bad argument. Also, FE4 maps NEEDS to be threated like other FE maps, not because they are bigger they need to be threated like other things.

@@AzumarillConGafasBv 1- The first castle, Heirhein, has to be seized within a certain amount of turns. That being by turn 9-10. If you haven't seized Castle Heirhein by that time, goodbye Bargain Band. Hence Quan and Sigurd needs to rush there whilst dealing with whoever is in their way. No idea why you bring up the Brave Lance. That weapon cannot be obtained until after Heirhein is seized. 2- I know how the Return Band works. If Ethlyn has both the Return Staff and Return Band, she can Return the characters going for the villages before returning herself. Makes it easier than going back around a spiral. Of course, one of these characters to return is Lewyn. Who you can use to recruit Erinys after Anphony is seized. 3- I am aware that Quan and Sigurd can deal with the first two Ballistae. Hence why I mentioned above that they can be dealt with on the way towards Heirhein. Super Canto exists, so hit and run tactics can happen. In regards to the group of Ballistae, Sigurd is the way to go. Go in, kill the boss, then Seize to get rid of the Ballistae. 4- It isn't a bad argument. The fact that you can save every turn is a tool the player can use, knowing that these maps are huge. If the tool is intentional, then it's not a bad thing to use it. But like any tools, it's only as good as the skill of the user. There are multiple save files. One for auto, and another three for backups. Use them.

I have been going through Conquest again. I was dreading the approach of Den of Betrayal, the ninja map. I had an easier time going for the Speedwing with Saizo because of one little trick. I didn't switch the stones/blocks with the Dragon Veins and instead blocked the initial chokepoint on the left side with enough units that I didn't want to level or use for most of the map so that Saizo couldn't get through with a 6 movement. I took the map slower and took advantage of a Niles+Camilla to lockpick and tank a lot of damage. Benny in combination with Beruka to out-tank ninja units and to retaliate with a javelin. It was a slow-go, but it allowed me to get through relatively easily. Since Niles was my locktouch user, I disabled the caltrops right next to the boss and used Shelter to immediately pull him out of boss-attacking range. I do find that fact that Kotaro has both powerful physical and magic options really tricky to tackle unless rushing him with damage from multiple units and getting lucky for hits. Benny, my hero, has an amazing personal skill for helping turn the hits in your favour (the risk is that if Kotaro doesn't die, then the Flame Shuriken will likely take him out). I understand the frustrations and if I didn't cheese my way through it, I would have had so much frustration with Saizo repeatedly putting himself in danger.

1-8 of Radiant Dawn isn't the best map, but I think you're too harsh on it. Jill doesn't participate for the same reason Tauroneo and Fiona don't - the Daein soldiers are forbid to by Izuka. Also, she'd trivialize the hostage aspect. But as it is, it's entirely possible to save every hostage without rescuing a single one, just by killing enemies instead. In fact, you can see me do just that on my channel. The only particularly tricky part is luring the wyvern. I use Vika for that, then Tormod kills him with Thunder, though he needs to be shoved twice to reach iirc. Even someone who doesn't see a way to do that is likely to figure out that Tormod is best suited to pick up that kill and look for ways to make it happen. And saving 4 or 5/6 is pretty easy even if the wyvern gets to one or two. Unless you insist on maxing combat xp and not clearing the left side with Nailah, in which case saving all the hostages becomes a very complex puzzle (but still doable).

#6 you haven't even mentioned the other bs, in order to get the bonus chapter, you not only need to keep sophia alive, you are on a time limit too. A desert map where finding the hidden items are luck based on a time limit?

@Juan-zs6jt
@Juan-zs6jt 5 лет назад
The desert items can be found easily with a reset trick. Reset -> check a character's profile -> return and move the character to the spot -> item found. Also the map can be beaten easily in 4 turns.
@Saltyoven
@Saltyoven 5 лет назад
@TheDealSealer with that logic every map is easy because you can just know exactly where the enemies are and rngabuse in order to make sure you don't waste turns getting the hidden items. Those are not viable defenses for the chapter. On top of that, I never said it was hard or that you couldn't cheese it. All I really said was it's pretty bullshit. Also, I get he doesn't talk about optional maps. However I only mentioned the path to get to the optional map, and not the map itself

If you played FE4 it'd be this whole list. By far the largest maps in the series - check Moves the goalpost at least twice every map making you trek through miles of empty terrain to the other side to meet a flood of fodder mooks, making for 2 hour plus maps - check Randomly hidden items and characters on most maps that require the right character and space - check Like literally they throw the entire population of 2 walmarts at you every map - check The final chapter of the game has long range mages who can reduce your HP to 1 guaranteed and are surrounded by mooks looking to finish you off with a guaranteed 1 damage - check

A bit surprised Unhappy Reunion isn't on the list. "Hey, wanna defend against reinforcements galore? Don't worry, we give you turrets which can't finish enemies off. The balista is especially helpful because we all love placing our archer inside the enemy's reach. Oh, and bet you are in dire need of getting the items offered in these houses, well hope you like to go into enemy territory instead of the more easily defendable areas. And do be prepared for paired up fliers making a break for the defense zone, meaning that even if you kill one, you also have to kill the other. What's that? You actually managed to use the terrain to create an advantageous defensive position? Well we can't have that, so let's remove the water. And even if you somehow manage to make a break for Takumeme, he has point blank shot, so he will retaliate if you attack him." Port Dia is a bullshit map.

I think a lot of people have trouble with this map because they approach it in the wrong way. It's a defense map, yes, but if you turtle near the starting area, you're going to be overrun, period. It's better to be aggressive instead of waiting for the enemy to come to you. As the saying goes, the best defense is a good offense. You can also make this chapter easier on yourself by capturing Haitaka and an archer from the previous map, and grabbing the Nosferatu tome from the shop. Selena with a Beruka pair up can tank the entire left side, and Odin with Nosferatu and a few tonics and salves can tank the entire right side, with some ballista support from Mozu, Anna, or a captured archer from the previous map. (you'll probably want Niles manning the central ballista) It's a tough map, to be sure, but the game gives you all the tools you need to complete it effectively.

Not true at all that the enemies are unaffected by the pitfalls in the Tellius bridge maps. You can actually see them avoid them in their pathing in certain instances, or decline to attack one of your units because the spot is actually a pitfall. In fact, I suspect the devs intended for you to pay attention to that to mitigate the pitfalls. That said, the pitfalls are dumb, but unlike e.g. the FE6 desert map, a guide alleviates almost all of the annoyance. Also, if you are using a guide you can never be completely blocked, because you can put a flyer on the pitfall, which lets your units move through unaffected.

in defense of the bridge maps of tellius (maybe the poster is aware of this): you can put flying units on the spaces where the pit traps would be and then your own units will be able to walk over those traps without falling in (if they fell in it would force two units to occupy the same space, which is not an FE9/10 mechanic, unless they forced a rescue to happen or something) also, the enemy units literally do stop in front of pit traps and walk around pit trap locations (at least in PoR, i cant remember radiant dawn) which is contrary to what is stated in the video @22:22

Yeah, I liked it. The culmination of everything I've been through finally coming to a close and with heartwrenching moments and satisfying deaths to accompany it (and finally curing my impatience after spending days finishing the support log and fully upgrading statues via Before Awakening and castle battles). After all I've heard of Conquest's monster difficulty even on Normal, I barely had any major problems, though I'll admit to soft reseting... it was on Casual, but I still wanted everyone to get as much experience as possible. But, it was still a great time for me. Finished Night Breaks Through in 10 turns (and this was my first Fire Emblem game, so I don't know if that's impressive or not). Nina is a goddess and I love my Cavalier family. Buuut I know once I finally attempt Hard and Lunatic I'll probably get my ass handed to me a lot more, even after all I've learned. PS: a General with a javelin in Pair Up is your best friend.

I, uh, I like Echoes' maps. I feel more like a strategist overcoming the enemy's strategy on the flat maps instead of merely solving a puzzle with RNG. Not saying other FE games don't have strategy of course, but clever enemy placement will be more appealing to me than pretty map design (and I think Echoes has good enemy placement).

low-manning Phantom Ship is a lot more consistent of a strategy than you gave it credit for. I'm playing through SS hard mode Ephraim route for the first time atm and about a week ago I beat Phantom Ship second try with just Seth, Berserker Ross, and Duessel carrying Ephraim. the trickiest part is keeping L'Arachel alive but as long as you block the bridge to her ship in time you're fine. the map is still complete ass but I think the low-man strategy makes it a really simple clear, highly recommend.
@Orcawsom
@Orcawsom 5 лет назад
phantom ship: i disagree with fog of war being bad game design but the way this chapter uses it is definitely annoying since there's no real visible map hints that might give you an idea of where enemies can and can't be since most of em fly. battle before dawn: yeah its pretty BS on HHM but it's doable on other modes as long as you think your strat through. also i think you should give git some credit in the description since you used his clips here with the text and everything unwanted glory: hard agree, easily the blemish on FE10's otherwise amazing map design. especially since they restricted jill in what seems to be the chapter that would be explicitly made for the purpose of rewarding players for using jill. a reason to fight: the game gives you a beast slaying skill, a beast slaying knife for sothe AND the god damn black knight for this. every time i play this chapter i feel it ends *too* early because the laguz are free kills here and would be useful for getting dawn brigade some EXP before their more difficult chapters like 3-12 and 3-13. since all the enmies are laguz, that means you can 100% count on there being no ranged enemies and can place your healers more freely behind stronger units who are walling. conquest ending chaps: i dont think keeping up the perfect pace is that tough, i think these are great difficult chapters. tellius bridge chapters: pitfalls are more of an annoyance than an actual issue, if you're turtling anyone you send up to the front in this chapter is likely to be someone who could take the hits even if stunned by the pitfalls. if you're playing fast you're probably just destroying everything with paladins and fliers anyways, you also have the full guard by this point so the arrows areny much of a problem. everything in revelations and celicas route: whats the point of going out of your way to exclude all of awakening and a mass of echoes maps if you're just going to include such a massive general entry on the list anyways.

Honestly the Revelations snow map might be the least offensive map of the bunch. Also Valbar is worthless in Celica's army because not only is he essentially just locked to one resist his whole life in a route filled with mages, but he's an armored unit in a game with huge maps and the only maps that arent massive restrict everyone's movement. If you need a defensive wall in Celica's Route you already have Boey and Saber.

How in the actual hell is Ninja cave on this list, where a sniper can just nuke the boss down, or a strong enough character can just laugh off his attacks, even if he dodges, but not Unhappy Reunions? The mission that actively punishes you for playing the game, and enemies can just win at any given point? Perfectly maneuver to handle the shitloads of fliers? Flier zips past, you lose. Move to focus down the fliers? Archer runs past, you lose. Sit on the defense point? Get zerged down by EVERYTHING. The only saving grace is the Goddess of Conquest shows up in that mission, but jokes on you, almost half of the enemies are archers!
