@@deeepdish I’m sorry but that is a laughably bad take. Look at other studios like Larian or GGG and how they listen to their communities and their games are better for it! I’m not saying there aren’t bad actors within communities, but devs shouldn’t have a “our way or the highway” mentality, you’re gonna push potential customers away or make veteran players leave (which many have). No studio is perfect, but there should be dialogue!

It's not what I want from WoW, put it that way... but, if it gets to that stage in Shadowlands and starts mimicking BfA where I lost interest from the start all the way up until the Mechagon patch, I'll be well glad for something _like_ (but not) corruptions.

@@capitaldcolon1795 I'm going to have to disagree with you on azerite. Essentially, since all the rings are randomly assigned each time, you'd have to reroll so many times that you're never going to get the actually optimal selection on every item unless you're very lucky. Now, WoW has always been luck based, but in the past there were lots of ways to get BiS gear quickly without relying on RNG. Even in Classic you can just grind money and buy some great gear. This loot system was terrible and I'm glad they realized it.

A neat way to do it would be to feature a run though of the dungeon, while explaining why each boss is there and the lore behind them. I'm sure there are alot of folks who don't know why you need to defeat the defias brotherhood, or why they have an ogre working with them? Why do we fight all those Dark Iron dwarves when they are part of the alliance? What is the deal with the Occulus? If you wanted to play as a solo player, you won't enter a guild, that's not where you belong. You were gaining "fame" in the guild, and that how things were most of the time offered. You work well, you get rewards if you participate in big events like raids. Obviously, main healers and tanks were first for every loots, because they are the most importants. But then, most of the time, it was about how much you worked for the guild. Except main grinding guild that were fighting for world first, others guild were kinda chill and friendly, everyone had their chances, you just needed to help others. in my opinion, the best part about the legiondarys was the way you obtained them. Everything you did felt like it was was worth it just because you increased your bad luck protection. Run a raid, dont get any loot, doesnt matter, because you will probably get a legendary soon for doing that. The system would have been perfect if you were able to disenchant 1 to 2 in order to craft the one you want.

I agree. Getting a Token would have been great. The way it was, i got my BiS legendary as the very first drop one the first dungeon i ran. My guildmate got the worst one and had to sit on the Bench on progress, just because he couldn't keep up with the dmg of my legendary. He than got a BiS legendary on an alt and stopped playing his main, cause he was so frustrated. Turning in a Token would have eliminated that. I mean everyone would have ran around with the same legendarys, but getting the shield neck as DPS while others get +25% more dmg was bad and frustrating

@royalcat10
@royalcat10 3 года назад
That was the biggest problem, though. You felt encouraged to play PvP because you got a leg up over people that play PvP as their main focus. The people that actually primarily wanted to play PvP got *discouraged* from playing because they were forced to slog through a bunch of PvE content they never liked... While you got a free pass because you were already doing that anyways. (And presumably enjoyed it, which is fine.) Previously when there was resil or pvp power, *everyone* started on ground 0 and had to work their way up for every new character. The only way to get better at PvP was to... Play PvP. The PvE players that felt "discouraged" by that system weren't really, because *everyone* had to go through the same thing, including PvP players. It was just they didn't want to put in the work to get better that everyone else had to do. (Not necessarily speaking about you specifically.) I don't see how anyone can call it fair that players that apparently didn't even really like the PvP aspect of the game got priority and special catering over the people that actually did like it and play it. Imagine if you were forced to do lots of PvP content to be competent in PvE... Sounds unfair, right? So why was it fair the other way around?

I actually like pathfinder it's a nice compromise between people who doesn't like flying mounts and people who can't live without them. I personally like the adventure sense and interactions with people that not being able to fly bring to the table... but that eventually wears off, so it's nice to being able to fly for convinience when you have "exhausted" the zones. That being said I still don't understand why flying is not unlocked for everyone in a given expansion after the next one have droped.

the scaling cost of reforging azurite and then having to fill your bags with a ton of random azurite pieces you'd probably never use was also extremely annoying. It would also occasionally setup greedy situations where people would have azurite pieces they could trade b/c they already had them but would then keep them just to not have to pay 40k gold to respec them on top of having a specific place they have to go to respec them. Also at the very beginning of the expansion azurite gear wasn't even tradeable.

One of the very least played specs in the game for 5 years straight. Literally the only spec in the game predicated on taking away part of the base class instead of building on the base class. Explicitly aimed at people other than those currently playing Hunters. It's the biggest class design debacle ever. @@DisastrousIntentionally "Old survival was literally Marksman but with Explosive Shot." Only to clueless non-Hunters who thought they were all the same because "hurr ranged weapon". We don't declare that Arms is literally Fury with Colossus Smash because both of those specs have some thematic overlap. So try to refrain from declaring similarly stupid nonsense about Hunters. Survival was significantly different from Marksmanship in both theme and gameplay. "Blizzard failed for years to give that spec a genuine identity that felt different from the other Hunter specs." See above. There was no failure. That's revisionist history to dishonestly try to make melee Survival look better. Ranged Survival was not only fine, it was a successful spec that appealed to a lot of people and provided a nice alternative to the other Hunter specs. This is why it wasn't being frantically changed all the time like the current melee SV; it kept the same basic identity and gameplay for 4 expansions. That would simply not have been the case if Blizzard was desperately trying to find an identity like morons on the online discussions like to portray it. If you want to see a Hunter spec without a genuine identity, look to the current melee Survival which is a clumsy combination of several different identities because Blizzard has no clue what they're doing with the spec anymore and are largely just playing damage control due to the disasterous initial melee rework. "It was only ever popular when numbers put it above the other two specs, anytime that wasn't the case it was barely played. Played more than modern survival probably but still barely played. " It was actually routinely a popular spec even when it wasn't the best, but I'll give you the benefit of the doubt here and say you're just clueless and unaware rather than outright lying. In Siege of Orgrimmar the spec was actually below BM yet still saw more play. But just look to Blackrock Foundry. That was a tier where SV was more significantly behind BM. In the last 2 weeks of that tier, Survival got 7.6k parses to BM's 42.2k. A lot less, for sure, but still more than nothing. Now look to the current tier, Castle Nathria. Survival has about 500 parses for the ENTIRE TIER so far. That's less than BM gets on average per DAY and they do more or less the same damage. Using play rates and representation as an argument against ranged Survival is so hilariously hypocritical and out of touch it's not funny. Actually, it kind of is funny that people can be this delusional. P.S. In Highmaul, just before Blackrock Foundry, Survival was literally the most played spec in the entire game by a massive margin. And that wasn't the first time. So you can kindly cut the bullshit about it being "barely played", thank you. The only tier where ranged SV was barely played, since it was recognisably ranged Survival with Explosive Shot, that is, was Hellfire Citadel in patch 6.2, and that was primarily because they mysteriously flat out removed a core mechanic that made the spec work, making it struggle to compete with tanks for damage. I wonder why they would do that just a month before announcing it would be replaced with a melee spec... hmmmmmm.... "Let's not pretend Survival was some amazing spec before the changes, it was always the spec that had no real identity outside of PvP." I'm not the one pretending here. You're the one making shit up as you go along to desperately try to make melee Survival look better. Ranged Survival had a great identity as the utilitarian that used exotic munitions and tools to gain an edge in the fight. This was distinct to both BM and MM and meaningfully and sensibly built off the base class. Survival right now nonsensically tries to build an identity by taking AWAY the most core part of the base class. It's the only spec in the entire game that tries to build off a weakness, and as such most people want nothing to do with it because it essentially defeats the entire purpose of being a Hunter. Blizzard also can't decide what to do with it so it has 3 different identities competing for prominence in the baseline toolkit; the stock-standard melee Skirmisher like a Warrior (Raptor Strike, Carve), the utilitarian toolkit that would better fit ranged Survival anyway (Wildfire Bomb, Serpent Sting), and the BM Hunter ripoffs (Kill Command, Coordinated Assault). Speaking of which... "At least modern Survival tries to be it's own spec, Blizzard just needs to put some genuine time into it." Oh, really? Because last I checked they literally rebuilt the spec from the ground up twice and what they arrived on was a spec that leans heavily on the identity of Beast Mastery to the point where it straight up copies BM abilities with some adjustments. They at least bothered to rename Bestial Wrath to Coordinated Assault when they copied it over, unlike Kill Command. Oh, and they straight up stole Spirit Bond and made it the mastery; you know, the iconic part of BM that was there from the literal beginning. I don't recall ranged Survival copying Aimed Shot, Chimera Shot, and Careful Aim over; it had its own toolkit yet the fact that they both used a ranged weapon was enough for you to declare "Old survival was literally Marksman but with Explosive Shot". So are you going to admit to being totally full of shit or what?

I'm not the one who thinks a spec that sees less parses in a month than another Hunter spec sees in a single day is an improvement. I'm not the one who thinks a spec that rips off half the toolkit from another spec is one that is forging its own identity. Such as in games like guild wars 2 where you choose which stats template you want to use and other customizable pieces. And Lost ark let’s you put a set amount of points into what stats you wanna max out. I think these are way more competitive ideas but at least making pvp gearing easier or having a low disparity of gear has worked fine in DF.

@potatoespotatos
@potatoespotatos 3 года назад
IMO BC and WotLK had the best iteration of flight, where you had to pay a somewhat expensive fee at max level to fly. BUT, there were actual perks to flying. Places you couldn't reach and quests/reps you couldn't access without flying (think the Netherstorm and Ulduar dungeons/raid, as well as the Netherwing and Skettis content), entire zones that could hardly work without flying (Storm Peaks and Icecrown). The usual complaint that flying makes certain parts of the game too easy and convenient makes sense, yes, but that argument is very much mitigated when flying is actually integrated into the game experience, rather than being there just for convenience's sake, as it's been after LK. Pathfinder is a bit of a lazy compromise, IMO. It is as if Blizz were saying "we're too lazy to design content tailored for flight, but since you folks still want to be able to fly and do stuff, here's some time-gating for ya. Enjoy your grinds!"
@smthng
@smthng 3 года назад
The initial idea is great, but they should really tone down some of the rep-related requirements. I'm all for mechanisms that subtly coerce players into enjoying more content, but the Pathfinder thing got out of hand. Completing the storylines and doing a couple of rep quests is perfect if you ask me, but having to collect junk in Mechagon and kill mobs in Nazjatar was really cumbersome.

Island Expeditions were nice after 8.1 when tokens were used for something. Saying they abandoned them isn't correct either, as they added new NPC vendors near the end of the expac with lootboxes you could purchase to get random loot from the expeditions, including the sought after mounts. So they gave people an incentive to grind them.

The biggest problem with Azerite armor as somebody who dropped BFA early on was, as a Ret main my best Azerite trait was a trait that increased Avenging Wrath duration. Like this trait was so good it was worth sacrificing like 20-30 ilvls just to have a piece with this trait because early on Ret was pretty much only a usable spec in Avenging Wrath. Massive problem being that the helmet version with this trait only dropped from the final boss of Freehold and trying to get this helmet with a decent ilvl on it was probably one of the worst experiences of my life since when you completed a m+ dungeon you'd have a CHANCE to even get a piece of gear then not only that it was of EVERY piece of gear that dropped from that dungeon and BFA added a TON of gear to the game, I think Freehold dropped like 15-20 items or something for Ret in a 4 boss dungeon. Then from the weekly chest it would grab a piece from EVERY dungeon in the game that dropped. There was also a massive issue with weapon acquisition in BFA, I remember Horde got the first weapon world quest and people actually rerolled from Alliance to Horde just for this weapon. Early BFA was an absolute joke of an expansion if you cared even a tiny bit about gear hearing all these lies Blizzard was spewing about how Azerite is going to replace tier sets and Legiondaries and the Artifact Weapon trees themselves passives and gold traits and then 99% of the traits in the game were passive traits that had a chance to do X damage or a chance to increase X secondary stat. There was also the GCD change that put everything on a GCD and dear god I'm sure you remember but if you actually played Legion on a character then tried levelling that character through BFA you actively and noticeably got weaker every time you dinged, it was an absolute joke. Then on top of all of this BfA introduced an even more extreme version of ilvl mob scaling in the open world so mobs would scale as you got higher ilvl. Even on fully geared Shadowlands characters BfA mobs aren't that much weaker than Shadowlands mobs despite being 10 levels lower, that's how crazy the BfA ilvl scaling is. So in summary you were lied to about gear, your class was clunky and always on GCD, most classes were doing like 60-70% of their total damage as auto white hits, your character got actively weaker as you leveled up and even if you managed to get gear you never actually felt it because everything still had the same time to kill.

@10 Mission tables ruined the ingame economy until today. Later they inserted high gold quests in Legions and now its 2k per daily calling(?Berufung) quests, but still not so profitable as before. I think they found an ok balance in Shadowlands to grind gold. @9 weapon skills: It wasnt that bad and it actually had a roleplay feeling. Compared to today you had to spend several weeks to get max level and also you only had to grind it once. Its not that I miss it, but I also wouldnt mind if this would still exist. @8 pathfinder: this wouldnt even be on this list, if they would just make it buyable when a new addon launches. I found it way worse in the earlier addons, where you had to buy very expensive flying for every alt char. 800 gold in Vanilla and 5000 Gold in BC were really a lot. Some of my chars only had it in the end of WOTL. @7 pvp: dunno, dont play it anymore @6 personal loot: Im a casual since pandaria, so I way prefer this system. I hated Cata, where better equipped friends rolled for other friends gear, so that you had basically a 1:15 chance to get an item instead of a 1:4 chance. Some also just rolled need and sold it. Pinacle of the worst considering loot. Glad personal loot was invented. @5 titan forged. only really affects high level myth players, who want to max out everything. And as you said, its 1% of the WoW players. So imo I actually miss this system. The only good part removing it is, that a high end player doesnt feel forced to grind days of raid instances, just for a tiny chance, even on LFR etc. @4 Warfront: the problem was, #a) that it was against NPCs and not another BG against players with advanced tactics and #b) they had to simplify it. Theoretically it was on a complexity level of Star Craft or Warcraft 3 etc, but how will you manage this will 40 random players? No way this will work. So they kept it simple, but that made it boring. @3 Island: Removing the time factor and implementing other goals would have been interesting. Wasted opportunity. Im casual, so I ddnt care about maxing out azerith, so in the end I never made many runs. @2 everything said already by you. The randomization made it unpleasent. Again, Im just a casual and I kind of got lucky with the heal pants for my hunter I liked, but ofc that wasnt a max dps item. For me, the 1000 ilvl and its stats were enough. @1.5 visions: actually I like kind of stuff like proving grounds and mage tower. Its the only challenging content for me, because I dont raid anymore and I dont visit high key instances. I found out about too late of it, still managed to get the title, but I would liked to have equiped other chars too. BUt I guess you meant something else. LFR: My problem with the current LFR is its rewards. Its just to low. You can get ilvl 197 with just campaign quests and anima grinding. LFR gives 187. It just doesnt make sense Blizzard... Corruption: too complex and too OP. Basically meant your gear does your damage output, not you handling the skills. @1 azerit gear: was too complex again, but at the same time couldnt care less as a casual. My goal was to get the absorb shield. :D was fun to tank the elite worldquest bosses as a mage.

There is a couple that come to mind but most recently in the last expansion there was that paladin that went crazy with corruption, bubbled, rand into the arena, and one shot the poor soul that queued against him. He aslo used an axe from the second boss in the nyalotha raid, which formed a bubble, and exploded causing damage based on your armor. He used it on his tanking pally, and when the bubble went off it would nearly kill other players hostile to him.

Personal loot was a good change. You missed the ball there. 99 percent of the playerbase shouldn't suffer because the less than 1 percent first world raiders have to buy tokens that their sponsors foot the bill for anyways.

Personal Loot wouldn't be as bad as it is, if you could at least trade all the items you get with those eligible to have looted it as well. I dont know how many of my guild got items they don't need but are BiS for others but can't trade them because they lack 1 itemlvl on that slot. It's just stupid.

I think Hiru mirepresented the issue. Its not "world first guild" problem. Its any serious guild problem. Not being able to trade item to your buddy, even tho its not good for you, but gr8 for him feels super bad. And the reason they removed master loot doesnt exist in good, organised guilds. I cant tell you how many trinkets/rings etc. that my friends wanted badly I had to DE/sell in BfA.

@skulldaisygimp
@skulldaisygimp 3 года назад
It was nice to be able to earn them from lots of sources so it wasn't gating the best stuff behind only the most elite content, yeah. Problem was the totally random aspect of it. Being able to target the specific abilities like we can in Shadowlands means you have to do certain content for certain powers, which isn't perfect, but targetable rewards are always better than super RNG hoops you have to jump through and just might wind up with moderately defensive legendary powers or niche PvP-themed capabilities when there's one out there that makes a huge difference in your DPS.

I definitely disagree about master loot. Even for casual guild runs, so many loot drops where issues with personal loot don't let you trade. Or it's a tiny ilvl upgrade for you, but a huge upgrade for someone else. It's fun to trade loot with friends? They definitely need to make a system which allows you to just trade freely between your guild or something.

Hey, can you make a video with the most fun consumable items, spells, and toys in the game? Ones that you can use on other players to troll them are my personal favorite like the one that swaps your positions. Even the Elune light thingy that just puts a spot light down for everyone to see Will turn some heads if used properly. Snowballs and other random things too... I think there is a ton of fun things in WoW that a lot of people don't know about because they don't affect your characters power. But hey, maybe I'm bias because I recently started actually doing pet battles and realized it's a lot of fun... These days there are so many ways to progress power wise, that when I catch up I feel like I need to get up and take a break from the game period... I used to love spending time just screwing around and socializing with no goal in mind, but now that seems rare in WoW

I’d like to see a short video on the Warrior’s Unrelenting Assault tanking spec before it was removed from the game. It existed before the Argent tournament raid in WotLK. I don’t think it was very well known, but I’m not sure. I knew a couple of tanks other than myself that did it until they removed it. There a deep arms talent called Unrelenting Assault that for two points reduced the cooldown of Revenge and Overpowered by 4 seconds, but the proc window was still 5 seconds. This means you could block/dodge/parry once at the beginning of the fight and then so long as you kept doing that once every 5 seconds you could literally spam Revenge every second until the fight was over. The damage and threat generated by Revenge was obscene and nobody could ever take agro from you, including max gear players during the malygos raid phase 1. You could improve the spec by getting the glyphs that gave you a free heroic strike when you used revenge and the glyph that gave you 10 rage when you crit heroic strike. Since UA was a 25 point talent, you would also get mortal strike, which is usable in all stances and generates a lot of threat too. You went deep enough into the prot tree to get Vigilence. It was basically arms spec tanking and was funny because it was a two button spec (heroic strike and revenge). Anything else you pressed was just to reduce damage taken. This was completely removed from the game when they fixed the unintended bug that left the proc window of revenge open for the full five seconds

Essences were the final nail in the coffin for me and the reason I took a break from BfA till Shadowlands. Simply the fact that they were not shared across characters made me wanna lose my mind. I played three characters in three different guilds of which all were healers. I hadn't the time nor the motivation to farm three times exalted reputation with Nazjatar and Mechagon. So for me essences were the cherry on top of a big pile of idiotic, unfun systems

So Personal Loot is one of the worst things ever added to the game...because it slows down people's world first runs? That's a pretty silly reason to say it's bad Hiru, especially since that's only 1% of the player base.
@hirumaredx

It creates the only real instance of pay to win in the game. That is kind of a problem, even if I personally kind of like it. As a healer I always got passed over on loot because its more important to give it to the dps, so now I dont have to wait for all the dps to get geared before I can start taking upgrades.

Being FORCED into Personal loto as ONLY option affects wya mroe then 1% of players , ti effects any guild/gorup that wanst to frreely trade gear and go for who its best upgrade for and not be pure rng. Not just world first, if want to trade loot you dont need wiht your friends? to bad cant. Its a small upgrade for you but a huge upgrae for fiend? to abd cant give ti. Oh its lwoer ivll then what have btu a different weapon type(say sword vs a staff) to bad aso cant trade it. Personal loot itself isnt bad, Being Forced as the ONLY option is the bad thing. Certainly with how terrible the trading system is. and even fi wher eno trade resrictions its stil just slwoer and more work/cumbersone then what sued to be able to do with ML.(which in fact the alrreayd ahd perfect system for with 80% guild group required)

I liked the original island expedition system. It took people forever to figure out how the rewards worked so they figured it was bugged, but once people found out you needed to kill certain mobs for their type of loot. you had to be careful for what mobs you wanted to kill and drop rates skyrocketed. but at that point it was like 2 weeks until the "rework" and became a boring conga line with no reason to think.

Man I'm so happy to hear someone agree with me on LFR. I literally hate raiding because I hate having to voice chat with people and I don't really give a shit about progression. But I've always wanted to actually experience end game content in a watered-down form at least just to see it and maybe get some raid pieces, without having to fight for a raiding spot and with the expectation that I have to show up at a certain time twice a week. I found, after playing the first LFR back in Cata, that I quite enjoyed LFR if only just to make that my "personal roof" on itemization and to do this type of content whenever I feel like it. I know pugs exist, but fuck that - I also never understood or agreed with the arguments against LFR
@hirumaredx
@hirumaredx 3 года назад
The arguments against LFR are kind of out-dated or gate keeping. Like it did have some big problems on release, but they fixed the problems by removing tier set bonuses from lfr and delaying the hell out of its released in comparison to regular content. And the other argument is just a Gate Keeping one, where they feel you shouldnt experience the raid unless its on its hardest difficulty.
