Adding a piranha plant in Super Smash Bros Ultimate instead of Waluigi & a Minecraft character instead of Conker. And also not bringing back any of their IPs that are not Mario, Zelda, or Pokemon like Metroid, Star Fox, F-Zero, Kid Icarus, Advance Wars, Earthbound, Pikmin, the list goes on.
My dishonorable mentions: -Shutting down their online services like the Wii Shop Channel, Miiverse, etc. -Not fully utilizing their back catalog of ALL their classic games each console/handheld generation. -Little to no support with cross buy games that released both on Wii U and 3DS. (Example: Shovel Knight.) -Canceling Star Fox 2 in SNES despite it being pretty much complete. -Not acquiring Rare.
Bruh. When the Wii Shop Channel shut down back in 2019, the Wii was already dead and people already moved on to the Wii U and Switch eShop. Not to mention, you can install WAD files with homebrew software. 💀
Bethesda (when it came to skyrim): you made this, let us make money off of it Bethesda (with anything else): eh, we'll allow it Valve: y-y-you made this!? WE LOVE IT! EA: wait, you made this? Please let us use it! Indie devs: I made this, so I can sale it Microsoft: you made this? So umm... Mind if I buy it off of you?
My dishonorable mentions: 1) Scrapping Peach from being playable in games she should've been playable in. 2) Saying "No" to Mario appearing in the Wreck-it Ralph franchise. 3) Recycling the same plotline in many Super Mario games. 4) Hypocrisy. 5) Hating fanmade stuff. 6) Making Princess Peach a super useless character. 7) Shutting down Etikons.
Also making certain games not compatible with the cloud save feature. My switch had a technical problem do I had to replace it. I managed to retrieve all my datas, except the ones from Splatoon 2. It wasn't so bad since I didn't made a lot of progress. But next time it happen, I'm also going to lose my splatfests rewards.
Nintendo is essentially the video gaming version of Disney. As Disney is good at making movies (most of the time. *looks at live action remakes* ), but is a very awful company!
I just got my first Switch a few weeks ago. Got my few games on eBay. No way am I paying $60 for a game that is 4 years old and sold millions of copies, Nintendo or otherwise.
Am I the only one who still feels bad about the Wii U? It totally deserves a lot of sales with games like Super Mario Wii U/3D World, Splatoon, Smash 4, and more
The thing that irks me the most is that since the Wii U sold so poorly, Nintendo is just porting all of its original titles to the Switch with minor additions instead of releasing new games (for the most part). I literally own only two games for my Switch because I already have most of the other Nintendo originals on the Wii U.
Game & Wario Mario Kart 8 (...we won't mention the Mario Party games.) Nah it wasn't a bad system at all. I think partially it's because they released the Wii Mini before they released the similarly named Wii-U so people had no interest in getting a 3rd Wii. Nevermind the Playstation and XBox get different systems while keeping THEIR names...
Same here, I had to break down and buy a wired controller to play the games now. I don't have the proper screwdriver kit needed to open the backing, They still use those funky Y shaped screws. It was cheaper than buying new joycons. You KNOW there's a problem when a new controller costs more than the games.
There's planned obsolescence for you. It's almost as if they don't want the JoyCons to last a long time and not have any problems, and also don't care if they fail within a month or two - as long as it results in more profit being made for the company, that's pretty much all they care about. Frankly, Nintendo are clearly out of their mind if they think they can get away with this...
@Juliet Talavera This should easily be number 1!!! They left Sony at the altar, made a deal with Phillips, (those awful CD-I games) and Playstation has ruled the gaming landscape ever since (they probably had more PS1s sold than the 64 did total, by the time the 64 released) Wish I still had some of my gaming mags with the Snes/Sony Cd-Rom attachment haha
One thing I think is unforgivable is Switch Online. Iwata before he died said, "People should not be paying for online." Yet Nintendo still released Switch Online in the form of money.
To be fair, it's a third if the cost of Sony and Microsoft and you get the old NES and SNES games you can play, but yeah. Pretty lame of them to go back on their word.
The worst part about all the things you mention in the video is that Nintendo doesn't admit, apologise, accept or makes up for those mistakes, and Nintendo isn't alone on that. This goes with almost every fucking company in the world
The worst thing Nintendo have ever done is making its alliance with Sony and then betray them. If Nintendo never did these things today they would be the absolute kings of Console market
No I’m a huge Nintendo fan and I think the PlayStation is fucking garbage it’s basically a inferior PC that innovates nothing, at least Nintendo doesn’t try to be inferior like the others, but I digress without Sony, Nintendo wouldn’t be where it’s at today they would get lazy and, start making shit games because they would be the only ones in the console market along side Xbox.
That game had a lot of pontecial. They could bring back one board from each console Mario Party (yes, even 9 and 10),but they gave us ONE bland board and NOTHING ELSE? That is easilly the worst Mario Party we ever got and probably ever will.
My main gripe of that game is that it should've been a home console game. Not a 3DS game. There are minigames that should NEVER be played on a handheld (looking at you every button mashing game espeically the ones that make you press multiple buttons looking at you Button Mashers from MP5).
Same, so i got a new one to replace the left drift one. And now new left and right are drifting. Im not spending $70 for a new pair thats gonna do the same thing in the next few months, they need to fix this!
@@jassy8278 facts its always the left one that does it and I don’t want to spend more bread on another pair. Hopefully Nintendo will fix the problem and stock up on the fixed ones
@@xKCAZxLEADER During the summer last year my pro controller started to drift during some games I played so I ordered a new one from GameStop, As for my joy cons so far they are ok.
I worked customer service for Nintendo for a period of time and all of these are right. Infact, with the joy-con drift, we weren't even allowed to call it Joy-con Drift when talking to players on the phone, it was always just 'calibration issues'
(i bet you know this) there was even a fan-made pokemon game called pokemon uranuim and what did nintendo did? shutting it down instead support and hiring them
This happens when Japanese Law and US Law dont match. Have you wonder those DMCAs from Nintendo. Its unfair for developers who spend thousands of hours and money to make a certain game. Do you think Nintendo is the only one who did this? Remember, Square Enix shut down all Chrono Trigger fan-made games. Capcom too.
I still scoff at the people who defend and say, "It's their rights and they own this and that." Okay, that matters to them. What does that have to do with us consumers?
@Lucina Antiqua Lucina, chill. Not really entitled, but we ARE important to their business. Imagine people stop buying their games and they end up with loss of income because of it. Company defenders like y'all would ask why people stop buying their games and complain that they're butthurt over small things and thinking it's an agenda.
As gillythekid once said about Nintendo, "If you make a game as a tribute, you get hit with a cease and desist, but if you make a game to slander them, that's a-okay."
Dishonorable Mentions: *3rd Party Embargo -Back in the 80s, many 3rd party developers weren't happy with Nintendo's policies; They could ONLY make games for Nintendo and only release 5 games a year. This felt very limiting on their profit margins and in some cases, their creativity. They basically smothered them with overly strict guidelines until they left. When Sega came around, 3rd parties jumped ship to make the games they wanted. Granted the number of games they could make were still limited, but they weren't forced under any exclusivity contracts. *Neglecting their Franchises -It's almost as if Nintendo WANTS us to forget about their niche franchises to a seemingly hostile extent! Want a new F-Zero? Mother 3? Custom Robo? Chibi Robo? Well, guess what, it ain't happening! And when Nintendo DOES release an entry in these franchises, it often feels like it was released with the faintest fart of an effort. Paper Mario Color Splash was a commercial failure, Metroid Prime Federation Force was eviscerated, you get the idea. And the reason why we're giving Nintendo a hard time with this is that THEY THEMSELVES HAVE PROVEN THAT REVIVING A DYING FRANCHISE CAN LEAD TO HUGE SUCCESS! Donkey Kong Country Returns, Fire Emblem Awakening, Metroid Prime and Metroid Samus Returns, Kid Icarus Uprising, and Luigi's Mansion Dark Moon all proved successful! What's holding them back from reviving their other franchises?! *Accidentally Banning Peach Players in Smash -They DID apologize for this, but it's kinda scary how using a certain move can get you banned for an entire day. *Inadvertently creating their greatest rival, Sony -Why did Nintendo cancel their plans to make a console with Sony? Apparantly Nintendo didn't like the fact that Sony had the ability to make games without buying from THEM first. There are also implications that Sony had planned to assimilate Nintendo and gain the rights to their franchises. But rather than try to re-negotiate the nature of the deal, Nintendo went behind Sony's back, struck a deal with Phillips, take all the assets to this new console, and leave Sony out to dry, all the while effectively humiliating them in front of the entire world! Because of Nintendo's shortsightedness, the Playstation was born, and bringing with it some of the most beloved names in gaming. AND because of Sony's less strict policies, beefier hardware, older demographic, and space-friendlier CD format being more appealing to 3rd Parties, 3rd Parties snubbed Nintendo and the Playstation absolutely CRUSHED the N64 in sales. Meanwhile the CD-I would go down in history as one of the worst consoles of all time. Is it any wonder why the CD-I games are all part of RU-vid Poop history? *E3 2008/Ignoring Hardcore Fanbase and Selling Out -More of an embarrassment than a terrible deed. But at E3 2008, there were no 1st party flagship games announced. Instead, Nintendo sold out to the casual fans and many felt as if they abandoned their hardcore fanbase. What the hardcore fans wanted to see was something like F-Zero, Star Fox, Kid Icarus or heck, even an Okami sequel. But nooooo, instead, we got an avalanche of games that very few were actually interested in. Need I mention Wii Music? Thankfully, they made something of a comeback at their E3 2009 conference. Yeah, it turned out to be a divisive game, but given what happened last year, pretty much EVERYONE forgave Nintendo when the trailer for Metroid Other M dropped.
@@theunknown7441: You don't think I know that? YES, 3rd party support has improved exponentially ever since the Switch. Even Bethesda is supporting it. Seriously, we got Skyrim and Doom (2016) on a Nintendo console, with Doom Eternal on it's way to the Switch. But the fail was what happened prior to this change. Nintendo's relationship with 3rd parties was very rocky since day one. From smothering them with overly strict guidelines until they leave to not being able to be taken seriously as a console to FINALLY not being able to get enough of Nintendo, this story may as well be a roundabout allegory for a controlling father that alienated his kids, then embarrassed himself to try to win them back but eventually ending on a happy note.
10. More importantly, WHERE'S GALAXY 2?! 1. To be fair, some people probably had this coming. BUT THAT DOESN'T AT ALL EXCUSE TAKING A DUMP ON THE FANS THAT DO THESE THINGS OUT OF LOVE FOR THE COMPANY!!! Because it's not like people making videos about your games can be used as free promotion or something! The worst part of all this is that other devs have adapted to the times when it comes to fan creations. Bandai Namco commissioned a fan artist to promote Tales of Berseria, Capcom promoted a Megaman fan game, and Sega brought on fan developers to create Sonic Mania. Meanwhile Nintendo ACTIVELY and STUBBORNLY refuses to evolve and adapt with the times!
@Riley McArthur And don't forget Peach's Adventures of NSMBW and NSMBU. Also Princess Peach's Escape and Super Mario Odyssey 2: Peach and Tiara's Revenge.
I remember as a kid dropping my game boy pocket down half a flight of stairs by accident, barely a scratch. Dropped my switch a foot of my bed, chipped off a piece of the cover on the corner
The whole PlayStation story is a little more complicated than that. Also, the state of cd technology at the time would have meant horrendous load times.
Here is the butchered version: In 1988, Nintendo had Sony as a partner to develop the sound chip for the SNES Sony snuck into their partnership a small clause that wasnt relevant at the time. Fast forward and then CD Technology was the next big thing in the 1990s Nintendo asked Sony to develop the CD add on Here is when the small clause that came to bite Nintendo... Nintendo didnt realize that if the add on would have been released Sony would be given any and all CD-ROM software royalties. Nintendo, remember is fully strict with comes to their platform royalties and control since the North American Video Game crash of 1983 taught Nintendo that they should have some sort of quality control with the games as the market got flooded with shovel ware and bootlegs like before. Since the two sides couldnt come to an agreement, the rest is history...
@@EdsBrain Considering how much fucking shovelware there was on the Wii, I don't know that it made such a big difference. There were also tons of lazy games on the 64.
@@ChewyThomson The point is that Sony would have complete control of the CD itself in both manufacturing and distribution. If Hypothetically Sony cares more on quantity than quality of the games then the market will get flooded and it would plaque the industry. Remember in the 90s the only way to know which games are good or bad is either a gaming magazine or word of mouth. The internet wasn't a common thing till the early 2000s.
I was sure that the number one thing on this list would have been the Virtual Boy, I hear the Wii U was awful but I'm sure it can't compare to the commercial failure that the Virtual Boy was, it wasn't portable, you had to sit uncomfortably to use it, nobody can watch you play it and it was bad for your eyes. It was Nintendo's worst invention ever.
@@WatchMojo if they were so "hush hush" then why did they publicly announce there was a data breach? They could have simply been investigating the issue before unveiling it. They're smart enough to know that they would lose more customers by hiding such a thing than to investigate and acknowledge. Fully convinced this is a channel run by bots lol
I was really expecting Online Service Fees to be on the list. I mean, I know it's 20 dollars a year, but I still don't get how come they've never done that a long time ago? Like when the Wii or DS were introduced. Plus, it's unfair for playing/trading pokemon, paying extra for DLC, Playing Turf War events, and playing Smash matches around the world even with lagging
Genesis does what Nintendon't. Sega doesn't target youtubers unlike Nintendo, even if you make a homebrew video on how to put a Sega Genesis emulator on a PSP, sega doesn't give 2 shits about what you do and not target you, Nintendo on the other hand hates their fans, even if you own a legit copy of a game like SM64, they target you for playing a emulator on the switch and make a video about homebrew on the switch.
After stupidly taking my Switch out to the beach with my gf, i got some sand in the analog sticks and it made my drift worse. After spending hours on the internet researching the best remedy for Joycon Drift, I figured out that spraying some WD-40 under the joint and rolling the analog sticks around clears the contact area of most of the debris and is a super cheap quick fix to drift. If that doesn't work, only then do i recommend getting your joycon drift repaired.
Nintendo KNOWS that the things they did were wrong. But they also know people will still but their products. They also know people will completely forget about those horrible things they did whenever they release a new direct, and Nintnedo will get away scot-free.
You forgot mismanagement of Nintendo franchises such as: - Relieving long-time Metroid fans with Federation Force after a 5-year hiatus from the series - Never letting Chibi-Robo go back to its roots - Forgetting how to make a Paper Mario game until Origami King - The whole fiasco with Sword and Shield (it was just wasted potential in the end) - Star Fox 2 getting delayed by 20 years - Skyward Sword reminding me what a rupee is - Virtual Boy - Putting F-Zero, Golden Sun, Advance Wars and Starfy on life-support for the past 15 years - Making me cry during the ending of Pokemon Mystery Dungeon Explorers of Time
Star Fox 2 wasn't delayed, it was fully finished, but Nintendo cancelled it, the Star Fox 2 we got on the SNES Mini was the completely finished version
Can we just for a second remember that they also came out with the “Classic” console a few years ago that had like, 50 games preloaded on it and it was basically just plug-n-play, and then when they only produced a certain amount didn’t make any more when it quickly sold out? Still sour about that awesome decision.
Completely agree!! I didnt get a Nes mini until a year after the second wave was released.. and was lucky to get it then I did get Snes mini launch night, but felt bad since alot of family and friends had to wait a yr or just gave up waiting
@@benjaminpeterson455Ironically, his name is the only thing I like about him; and his commercials showcasing Bowser and Bowser Jr are entertaining to say the least. *Amibo shortages/Ambio that is used for the Skyward Sword port. *$60 USD price tag for games/using cartridges instead of an open format for psychical games *Ending online tournaments in the middle of a pandemic *Ceasing & Diesting custom joycons *encouraging scalpers *having to pay to backup save files *the online chat (rather use 3rd party software) *not caring about game preservation *shutting down Pokemon Ranch *removing free online play *lack of older games on Switch *going after ROM sites
As much as I love Nintendo, these mistakes just cannot be ignored. You know better then that, Nintendo. Although I have my doubts about that sometimes.
I like my switch but Honestly I wish it had more features similar to the ps Vita. The PS Vita was so ahead of its time and underappreciated with features. Such as online chats with folks on their PS4s and apps, trophies, and releasing ps1 games.
I HATE what Nintendo is doing, and I mean it. Nintendo is abusing their DMCA ceased-and-desist notice 'cause fans are using their IP's. Truth is... is that most of the time, fans made fangames out of love and passion for Nintendo's games, and yet, they still get their fangames taking down 'cause (HUGE quote unquote) "using Nintendo's intellectual properties are violating their copyright laws". I do get that Nintendo comes from Japan, where its copyright laws are much more stricter than the one in the US (where I live), this still doesn't make it okay. Nintendo SERIOUSLY NEEDS to stop abusing their copyright takedowns. This is one of the main reasons why I prefer SEGA over Nintendo. Despite SEGA releasing mediocre to bad games (mainly for the Sonic franchise), they show great appreciation for Sonic fangames, and this makes me wish that Nintendo did the same for their fans... :|
Selling games that are more than two years old as expensive as brand new games. On other platforms, this rarely if ever happens. Some games are just not worth the full price.
Not to mention insisting on manufacturing consoles with 3-5 year old hardware making game development for third party developers a nightmare if not outright impossible. That alone is just a big advertisement billboard saying "buy another console". That and their pricing is quite absurd over time because who wouldn't love paying full retail price on a 4-5 year old game?
if your talking about amoibo festival than the reason there is more animal crossing is because a lot of people want it kid icarus is good but its a niche game
Well Hades did say that it won't happen for another 25 years. Since Uprising came out in 2012, we still have another 16 years left. Also the developers of Kid Icarus: Uprising, Project Sora, closed after the game was released, which was also the only game developed by that company.
I love Nintendo but im so glad they ditched Sony. Because now we have the Playstation as a result. Nintendo makes shady decisions and this is one of the consequences for said decisions. Sony now has a huge product because of it and bottom line is Nobody is #1 forever and i hope Nintendo realizes this and actually starts caring for us fans and consumers.
When I acquired 3D All Stars, I was very lucky to get it when I did. I got it from a Walmart that had a crazy incident occur just after I left that shut down the store for two weeks. What happened was, someone set fire to a pack of toilet paper rolls to distract everyone from a theft occurring in the electronics department WHERE I BOUGHT THE GAME! The store was closed for two weeks to rectify issues that the incident caused

Joy-con drift could easily be solved. In some games you can go to settings and lower the sensibility of the joycon so you have to push a certain degree in a direction to move your character. That prevents them from slightly moving on their own when not touched. (I know my explanation is bad but I think you know what I mean)
Surprised that Nintendo's practice of forcing retailers to devote shelf space exclusively to their products and ban third-party game makers from competing systems in the 80s didn't get a mention.
3D All-Stars is definitely not a lazy version, the emulations good and it stays mostly true to the original games. And was definitely a better way to celebrate the 35th Anniversary unlike rereleasing an SNES game on a Wii disk just like they did for the 25th anniversary.
A lot of this stuff is aimed at the Switch. Many of which I don’t feel deserve to be on the list. I understand the setbacks are fresh in our minds, but Nintendo has done MUCH worse.
And I can't blame them. Their fans are nothing but a bunch of bratty and entitled dumbasses. Exhibit 1: Nintendo announced a Paper Mario: Color Splash and the Paper Mario fanbase hated it before it even released and even a petition was created to cancel the game. Exhibit 2: When they announced that Pokémon: Sword and Shield wouldn't have the National Dex, people bashed on the game before it even released. Exhibit 3: When the Byleth DLC for Super Smash Bros. Ultimate was revealed, everyone was pissed because they don't want to see another FE representative in their precious Smash Bros. And those few examples are why Nintendo mainly listens to their target audience (families and children) over their hardcore fans.
Watchmojo has made this and a video bashing Mario, but they don’t bring up the fact that Nintendo saved the gaming industry with Super Mario Bros in 1985. We wouldn’t have games today if it weren’t for them
What also should’ve been on the list or be a dishonorable mention: -Fire Emblem Fates’ localization -Not dubbing Tokyo Mirage Sessions FE solely because it’s based in Japan
It was free at one point, but sometime later they make you pay for it. Yeah, you have to pay to play multiplayer, you might as well not have multiplayer in your games or maybe not have wifi on the Switch
Both Sony and Microsoft have paid online subscription services that are way more expensive than Nintendo Switch online; yet I don't see you complaining about them
Dude seriously, it's so annoying. My nephew and son always asking for me to pay for online so they can play minecraft with me. Its freaking expensive, that's why I play on PC
@@maryclegg191 We are talking about Nintendo. Maybe that's why they don't bring it up. Also Nintendo is directed towards kids so having to pay for online is just ridiculous because their games don't have massive online difficulties like playstation and xbox
@@R.O.T.C._SEEM first of all, Nintendo is not geard towards just kids; they are family friendly. There are a lot of adult Nintendo fans; I am one of them. Secondly, my point was that Nintendo isn't the only game company that does this. Both Microsoft and Sony are bigger than Nintendo and both have major problems with their online services. Remember that Microsoft also had a major data breach that was way bigger than Nintendos. Yet I don't see videos about the worst things Sony has ever done or the worst things that Microsoft has ever done because what the things they have done is way worse than anything Nintendo has ever done
Another dishonorable mention would be the whole ordeal with trying to play Super Smash Bros Melee for competition or fun. But with that pandemic, they couldn’t play the game that didn’t have online support
