Jackson Perry You're right. I'm not as familiar with seasons 8 & 9 as I am with the rest of the series. Grew up with The X Files but still prefer the first 7 years. Changed too much after Mulder left. Thanks.
Teens can keep saying that Game of Thrones is the best tv show. For me The X-Files will always be the best show in history. The mystic feeling and the bond between mulder and scully is so beautiful.
As for me, there are a couple of others to be considered- Pretender, Sherlock Holmes take a bigger piece of the cake. :-) Not that I disagree with you but I never could make time to watch these originally and, mostly, it was too dark for me.
I have similar feelings. Though there are so many more great television shows now than during the 90s, many of my favourite shows come from that era. The likes of Twin Peaks and Buffy would also be high up my list.
One of my favorite episodes is Triangle, the one where Mulder is in the Bermuda Triangle and goes back in time during World War II while Scully tries to rescue him. I love how that episode was shot and directed, how it does a split screen of long takes of Mulder in the past and Scully running around the FBI building trying to save him.
I love the ep. "Small Potatoes", when the shapeshifter Eddie, after living as Mulder for a time tells him "I was born a loser, but you're one by choice".
I gotta say that the pilot episode was by far one of the best written pilots on a TV show I have ever seen. And the actors having such incredible chemistry basically right off the bat was something rare and special you never get to witness in a lot of modern TV. That episode has to be my favorite because it's what got me to love the show.
Have you seen the in-universe series Millennium too? It also was created by Chris Carter and it also has one of the greatest Pilots. They are comparable. But I fully agree, the X-Files is the best thing on TV still...
I would also add ‘Roland’ to the list. Zelko Ivanek was outstanding. Loved Clyde Bruckman a lot. I wasn’t such a fan of Jose Chungs or all those strange episodes.
Dude when I was a little kid in the 90's (I'm talking 5-6y/o) I'd watch the Simpsons with my dad and then when I'd hear this spooky music come on after I would leave because I was too afraid of this show. To this day when I hear it, I relive that thrill of nostalgic cowardice. Lol shit sounded like ghost music! It scared the shit out of me!
I've been watching TV series my whole life and haven't seen anything better than X-Files. The extremely dedicated cast, the clever stories, the plot, everything works. But nothing, absolutely nothing compares to the chemistry between Mulder and Scully. It must be the most silent and obvious love in history. Never again will anyone be able to create a couple like this on TV or the cinema.
That episode in the second season where Mulder and Scully investigate goings-on at a high school where most of the faculty are Satan worshipers was also really great.
Agreed. Fist time meeting the actress who played Mr. Kaplan on the Blacklist. She nailed that performance. The last fifteen seconds of the episode are a real classic X-file ending too.
+MCCiabattaGrande I refused to watch X-files when i was a kid, it scared the living shit out of me! And after watching a lot of episodes like 2 years ago... it still scared the shit out of me. lol
Same 😂 back home, it was aired at midnight. I was 8 and wasn't really allowed to stay and watch it. Used to wait until my mom was asleep and sneak in to watch it 😂
+Dom Fabio That Batman creature episode use to scare me. And the sea monster one especially the ending when Big Blue comes out of the sea at the end made me shiver.
Best quote from the episode, after the Men in Black confiscate the camera footage and release it commercially as an intentionally absurd "alien autopsy" video to discredit Mulder, Scully, and UFOology. Narrated by TV psychic Yappi: "Who is this mysterious man, who seems to oversee the proceedings? And vhat secret government agency does this autopsy doctor vork for?"
X Files is still my favorite show ever on TV. My son and I watch all the episodes over and over and never get tired of them. We visited Roswell last May searching for Mulder and Scully but never could find them. They were probably at area 51. Actually ET was easier to find in Roswell!
"x-cops" is one of my favorite stand alones. it was such a cool crossover and used an inventive way of never showing the monster as every character saw something different, so as Tom Savini's saying goes what you dont show the audience will make up something ten times more horrifying in their own head
Top 10 X-files Episodes That Didn't Make WatchMojo's list: 10. How The Ghost Stole Christmas 9. Triangle 8. Folie a Deux 7. Detour 6. Memento Mori 5. Beyond The Sea 4. War of the Coprophages 3. Field Trip 2. Monday 1. Small Potatoes Honorable Mentions: Never Again, Quagmire, Paper Hearts, Tithonus, Leonard Betts, Humbug, The Pine Bluff Variant, Drive, The Unnatural, Closure
I will forever be in love with "The Unnatural" and its perfect balance of typical X-Files themes, horror, comedy and emotions! Plus the heart-wrenching question of what does it really mean to be human
20. Via Negativa 19. Humbug 18. The Pine Bluff Variant 17. Drive 16. The Postmodern Prometheus 15. Duane Barry/Ascension 14. Small Potatoes 13. Tunguska/Terma 12. Folie A Deux 11. Paper Hearts 10. Definitely pusher and rooms want that Vietnam vet who can make a blind spot nocking off the people who left them to die as pows think it season 4 but yeah you list like mine and it made most characters who the are to day with Brian Cranston whold there be a breaking bad Ryan Reynolds when them to girls who's killing there high school mate Ryan Reynolds was in that the guy with lightning ⚡ he can control electricity DTO is is anyway bring more seasons out before all breaking bad the wire ect we had the x files but pusher and rooms some of the alien episodes gets a bit stupid but you got to love this growing up to this it was like my mum and dad's twilight zone lol but my mum love this aswell epic ❤❤❤
die hand die verletzt has to be the scariest episode, easily. even as a 10 year old child, that episode was scarier than Tooms because it was literally the devil
+Nyx Seriously. I don't know who voted on this, but they've clearly not watched all of the episodes. None of those eps event got an "Honorable Mention".
I got chills when I saw Clyde Bruckman so high on the list. Its the episode I think about the most years after seeing the series, his performance for me was definitive, and the writing better than most nobel books
Interesting thing, Vince Gilligan is one of the top writers of the x-files, and he is the creator of Breaking Bad and Better Call Saul. So, if you look carefully in all the x-files episodes he has written, you will find that the Breaking Bad and BCS cast members: Bryan Cranston (Walter White), Aaron Paul (Jesse Pinkman), Anna Gunn (Skyler White), Dean Norris (Hank Schrader), Raymond Cruz (Tuco Salamanca), and Michael McKean (Chuck McGill) are all in at least one x-files episode. Cool right?
Alot of them are also on Supernatural, the creator for the show is from The X Files and Kim Matters worked on the show before his death, along with many, many actors... like Mitch Pileggi, Mark Sheppard, Steven Williams, Nicholas Lea, ect.
@@Orionglow Everything is great about the show. The characters are amazingly well written. First you start out with Walter White a nice chemistry high school teacher who gets cancer. First you feel sorry for him but inte end you hate him. He become the villain and he's brother in law who's a DEA agent are the good one. The show has well documented scenery and the music and atmosphere is just great. You just have to see the show to get what I mean. I promise, it's worth the time!
Trust me it's so much better watching it as an adult. I came to appreciate it more after re-watching it multiple times as an adults, so many things went over my head when I first watched it as a teen.
I remember ICE really freaked me out because of the whole ear parasite thing. You know theirs trouble when even Skully barricades her room before she even attempts to sleep. Also I loved the crossover episode of Xfiles and Cops XD
"Home" was one of the best and creepiest episode of the show I know that it wasn't aires in reruns for while but eventually it was aired again and it's still the creepiest episode they made.
I'm a little late to the party, but humbug was written by Darin Morgan, who wrote some of the funniest and greatest x files episodes such as, humbug, Jose chungs from outer space, and Clyde bruckmans final repose. Darin Morgan was also the actor for flukeman in the episode the host. Darins brother, glen is also one of the main writers for the show. I would list Darin Morgan's as the top 5 lol
I think it doesn't really make much sense in doing a "top 10 episodes" for a show like the x files. In all honesty, the x files has so many good episodes that it really comes down to personal preference. i could replace 5 episodes from this list easily. Paper clip was always a must in terms of the series long running story. Paper hearts, Folie à Deux, Drive and Grotesque. Again, i was never much a fan of the comedy side of the x files, i really liked the more intense episodes.
The x-files was incredible. I haven't seen it for years but every episode shown here I couldn't help but say "I remember that one!" Also Bad Blood was hilarious and one of my faves.
I was rewatching it in January 2015 after like 9 years without watching it. Finished watching in November 2015. Such a great TV series. My thing about this show had been Gillian Anderson as Dana Scully. I loved her so much and everyone who watched it must've had a massive crush on her. My first ever crush on a famous woman was Gillian Anderson.
Well they can't really put both halves of a two part (well, "callback" episode, I guess you could call it) when they only have 10 to work with. I've seen a few of their "listeos" like "10 best fps video games," or whatever and they often specify that they only choose one per series (since obviously Wolfenstein would take up several slots). I just watched (most of) the X-files series (i didn't always double back when Prime would play a few more after I fell asleep) for the first time recently and I enjoyed it quite a bit. If you think that they should have picked the other episode instead...I guess they disagree.
Classic clickbait strategy: put a controversial choice in #1 to generate more buzz. Ice wasn't bad. Wasn't great, either. And none of these eps feature The Lone Gunmen.

I realize this video was posted years ago but the episode "Kaddish" about the Golum was excellent. The music that was chosen conveyed such agony over a love lost
+Mister Torgue Flexington one episode isnt really enough to tell if it sucks. it started off an arc and it looks interesting, tho the letdown is that they have only 6 episodes and 3-4 of them will be filler episodes without an overleading story to them, kinda filler/monster of the week episodes.
I laughed so hard when Jesse Ventura drove right inside that dude's garage and started talking about UFO's. I was also in shock because you would never expect that to really happen but it did.
Some great choices, but you missed some of the absolute best episodes like EBE, Deep Throat, End Game, Fallen Angel, Little Green Men, Paper Clip, Tunguska, etc.
So many great episodes; far too many to list. I haven't seen Oubliette mentioned, but that's one that sticks with me. Featuring a young Jewel Staite (later of Firefly fame) as a kidnapping victim, and a previous victim of the same kidnapper has an unwanted mental connection with her.
What's the name of that episode where an invisible creature kill people in the woods? Kinda predator, but this is green and can be invisible, that episode scared the hell outta me when I was a child. I couldn't sleep with the light off in weeks.
Only Ice and Clyde Brookman's Final Repose would be in my top list. The rest of this list is weak, you've missed so many better episodes. My favourites: Memento Mori, Paper Hearts, Pusher, Squeeze, Conduit, Beyond the Sea, Small Potatoes, Oubliette, the three-parter of Duane Barry, Ascension and One Breath.
You've missed "Field Trip", "Closure", That episode where annabeth gish was in a coma getting ready it's organs to be harvested by an Angel of Death Doctor, that other episode where Doggett is shot in an alternate universe, "Via Negativa", that other episode where it tells the story about mulder meeting the lone gunmen, etc, etc, etc, etc. Oh, I almost forget, that long episode.. errr.. movie "Fight the future" was nice too. And of course... : S.R. 819
PEOPLE PEOPLE I AM HERE TO HELP! If you really want to know what the Best Episode of The X-Files is, just watch EVE. Yes, the 90's band Eve 6 got their name from this episode. If you like evil kid stories like Children of the Corn or The Bad Seed, this beats em all. Enjoy!
Oh, I love "Eve". I wish they came back to it in later seasons. It was such a good episode. But I actually live ice. It's one of my favourite episodes (can't pick one 😂) :)
Where is "Pacient X", "The Red and the Black", "Two Fathers", "One Son", "Biogenesis", "Tunguska", "Terma", "Piper Maru"? Those (among other episodes) are essencial to the X Files main plot.
***** I agree that is was written as it went along (in fact, the cast members admit it). My point is that, regardless of your feelings for the main plot, it has many of the most memorable scenes and notions of the serie (the faceless rebels, the black oil, C.G.B Spender, Samantha Mulder).
Ice is #1? I beg to differ. Jose Chung's From Outer Space and Home were both vastly superior, in very different ways. My personal favorite is Jose Chung......
As an interesting comparison, Vulture ranked every episode, here's where they ranked WatchMojo's 10, and the full list of their top 10 episodes: Darkness Falls - 29 Home - 3 Bad Blod - 2 Tooms - 23 The Post Modern Prometheus - 7 Anasazi - 69 Jose Chung's From Outer Space - 4 Pilot - 28 Clyde Bruckman's Final Repose - 1 Ice - 14 Full Vulture Top 10 list 10 - Triangle 9 - Sunshine Days 8 - Pusher 7 - The Post-Modern Prometheus 6 - Memento Mori 5 - Colony / Endgame 4 - Jose Chung's From Outer Space 3 - Home 2 - Bad Blood 1 - Clyde Bruckman's Final Repose
I hope that one I'll wake up, having forgotten every single X-Files episode, so that I can re-watch all of them again. I'm actually a little bit mad about the fact that I 'marathoned' through the first few seasons.
jack harvey It was back in early 2013 when I found out about The X-Files, the first few episodes I wasn't hooked at all, and since I was quite young at the time, I dismissed it because it was a bit too old for me. A few days a later I gave it another chance, and something changed, I don't know what, but something changed. I went through the first few seasons in days. It was scary, I was like a crack junkie. I should've only watched a couple of episodes a day, I remember crying after the series was done, because there were no more episodes left.
Adam Sawiris lol thats a weird story I started watching season 1 a few days ago I quit after the tooms episode it's a bit too scary for me I can't watch it alone
Some honourable mentions should be... 1. Squeeze 2. Die Hand 3. 2Shy 4. Leonard Betts 5. Folie a deux 6. How the Ghosts Stole Christmas 7. Hungry 8. This is not happening 9. Sunshine Days
Great list! Love X-files! These are my favs: 1. Clyde Bruckman's Final Repose 2. Small Potatoes 3. Home 4. Bad Blood 5. The Post-Modern Prometheus 6. Paper Clip 7. Mulder & Scully Meet the Were-Monster (Season 10) 8. Jose Chung's 'From Outer Space' 9. Anasazi 10. Tooms
Dani2wheels True, but they haven't done that for any of the other "Top 10 Episodes of ..." videos that they've done. I'm just going by their history. It would have been nice if they'd done that since the beginning. /shrug
How can you have an X-Files top ten and not include "Beyond the Sea"?! Once I saw that "Clyde Buckman's . . . " was #2, I thought for sure "Beyond the Sea" would be #1.
Gigi8877 No, it's the one when Scully's father dies and and she has to find two missing teenagers an a psychic death row inmate offers to help her. It's awesome!
Russian joke: In Major Pronin's car, the steering wheel is on the left. In the James Bond car, the steering wheel is on the right. In Special Agent Mulder's car, the steering wheel is not known where, but it must be somewhere nearby.
