I appreciate all Ozu films and styles, but people really should discover his earliest movies, are so different! One of the best things of his films is you can see Chishu Ryu growing old MY TOP 10: That Night's Wife I Was Born, but... A Story of Floating Weeds Late Spring Early Summer The Flavor of Green tea over Rice Tokyo Story Tokyo Twilight Equinox Flower An Autumn Afternoon
Here would be mine: 1. Tokyo Story (1953) 2. Tokyo Twilight (1957) 3. Early Summer (1951) 4. Floating Weeds (1959) 5. Late Spring (1949) 6. Good Morning (1959) 7. An Autumn Afternoon (1962) 8. Late Autumn (1960) 9. Equinox Flower (1958) 10. The Flavor of Green Tea Over Rice (1952)
My top three are Early Summer The Flavor of Green Tea Over Rice Equinox Flower And , to be clear, strictly based on how frequently I revisit the films. Early Summer was the first Ozu film I ever saw, and it changed my view of what great art in film-making could be. (The only other film that impacted me in the same way was Rohmer's My Night at Maud's.)
1- tokyo twilight 2- Early summer 3- tokyo story 4- an autumn afternoon 5- late autumn 6- late spring 7- floating weeds 8- good morning 9- the end of summer 10- an inn in tokyo
I truly love that you put Early Summer first! Even though I dont agree about it being first, I think it should be given as much praise as the other two from the "Noriko Trilogy"! My top 10: 1) Tokyo Story 2) Late spring 3) Early Summer 4) Floating Weeds 5) The End of Summer 6) Good Morning 7)Tokyo Twilight 8) An Autumn Afternoon 9) Late Autumn 10) The Flavour of Green Tea Over Rice
@@panglossiandrives403 I disagree, but it's a personal choice I guess. I have about 15 or 16 Ozu films in my collection and I have seen all of them at least twice (except Green Tea, that one is new to the collection, only seen once). For me my top 10 currently goes: 1. Tokyo Story 2. Late Spring 3. An Autumn Afternoon 4. The Only Son 5. I Was Born, But.. 6. Floating Weeds 7. Late Autumn 8. Flavour of Green Tea 9. Early Summer 10. Good Morning But I will say I am going to revisit Floating Weeds and Early Summer soon because you say it's his best.
