Absolutely love this video! One of my favorites you have ever done …totally the best , I say just countdown in order and go 80s next, X-men 350 was a pretty slick cover!
Adam Kubert had a lot of nice Wolverine covers between issues 76-90. My favorite was 78. I really liked your list. My vote would be to do the 70s next.
I'd say my favorite 90s comic covers were superman # 75 and X-Men#1 by Jim Lee! Both covers are very iconic and easily recognizable! Great video showing all the covers from the 90s!
Pretty great seeing all those covers. I go through my collection just to check them out sometimes. Did a quick count thru the show. Definitely got 44 of them possibly 46..gotta check on 2.looking forward to the Eighties.
70s please, so many classic stories, first appearance and first covers. Love to see you do a video on comics with low print runs for other countries like the UK and Mexico issues that would appeal to your overseas subscribers.
Love that Lobo cover! I am quite fond of Preacher's art both inside and on the cover they were my introduction to Vertigo. Amazing Hal comic cover art you can feel the emanating emotions from him going mad with power. Bruce Timm is the man! Also thanks to your videos mate I recognized the cameo appearance of King Shark's teeth in Superboy, bought the reader's copy along with several other low grade books which were the 1st appearance of Nix Uotan + the origin of Granny Goodness, the three separate origins of the Joker, Kate Kane's second cameo appearance and the death of Osiris.
Boland's covers, anything by Alex Ross, Mike Deodato when he wasn't mangling the female form, all Totleben Swamp Thing covers, anything Perez and almost every painted Vertigo cover, Sam Kieth's MCP covers, Kellley Jones (the heir to Bernie Wrightson): these are a few of my favourite 1990s cover things. Hey James, this short but snappy video really works! Next? Just keep moving backwards chronologically: 80s until you get to the 40s (plus Action Comics 1), maybe even into the 1930s.
Awesome list, I love this video. Definitely looking forward to an 80s video. I couldn't help but notice you said Adventures Of Superman 501 was by Rick Taylor. That's most definitely a Tom Grummett cover 😀
Do every decade! I just love classic covers! Way more sentimental value than keys in my opinion. Love it!!! I buy just for the cover art, I read all Marvel from 1965 to about 1983 so I have the base knowledge of the characters down but classic covers is where its at!! My first Comic my mom bought for me is a classic cover I was six and the book was Batman 244 the Ra's Al Ghul cover, scared the crap out of me lol. Now I own a CBCS 8.0 of 244 and it's my favorite book!!!!!!!!! great video bro!!!
Just a quick note - at 2:54 you say Kingdom Come #1, but show #4. Otherwise a pretty great list, James. Have to say that 3 of my favorites from Marc Silvestri's Wolverine run are personal favorites - #33 & 36 make my list, but Wolverine #57 is one of my favorite covers, no matter the decade!
Loved this and can’t wait for the 40’s-70’s decades. I was a little disappointed you didn’t venture much beyond DC/Marvel. My favorite 90’s cover was an alternate for KABUKI by Steranko. Breathtaking.
I'll admit that this is a pretty good list and a lot of fun going down memory lane. Breyfogle is hugely under appreciated. If I might add though. There are some great covers out there that aren't part of the big 3. Rune #1 was a favorite of mine done by Barry Windsor Smith. Malibu Comics put out some nice books before being sold off.
Some great choices my friend. I have to throw out the mixed media covers from Topps Comics, by Miran Kim and Michael Grecco on The X-Files, specifically issue #1 from January of 1995. Absolutely love that cover. And for fun ALF # 48 from December 1991 by Dave Manak lol. Classic
At least you had one - but you still missed like almost every Sam Kieth cover ^^ even some good ones on batman... What's with the Todd McFarlane iconic batman (301?). I loved the 90s - and as long as they don't have the terrible marvel image custume redesigns tons of great covers ^^ cheers
Greatness video Brother!! Glad you had one glow in the dark cover on your list Ghost Rider #15. There are soooo many GREAT 90s covers but my favorites that come to mind: Venom Nights of Vengence #1 gitd cover, Uncanny X-Men #350, Doom 2099 mount rushmore cover (I forgot the issue number), Venom Funeral Pyre #1, Superman #123 gitd cover and many more covers that I can't think of right now. Yes keep this series going MAN!!
I think a lot of these are picked on pure nostalgia criteria, you just remember liking that issue or seeing that cover back in the day, because many of these are not great covers at all, much much better options in the 90s but its all just our opinions so kudos for putting this together and I definitely agree on many of these as well :)
James,it's time for the 80's favorite covers and Dark Knight#1, Killing Joke and Amazing Spiderman#300 has to be I that list cause those are some cool covers plus really good books to have in a collection.
Got Ghost Rider 15 on my best-cover wall in my office. I also love anything Spider-Man by Bagley, Ghost Rider 5 (Jim Lee, Punisher vs Ghost Rider), Ghost Rider 27 (Jim Lee, X-Men/Brood crossover), Marc Spector: Moon Knight 20 (Punisher and Spider-Man). Do 80s next! More than half my cover wall is late 80s stuff.
James,I say 80's and the Dark Knight Returns#1 and Killing Joke need to be on that list somewhere cause those where some great covers and probably the best Batman Stories ever told.
Trying to count how many I have - it's just a guess, I don't have a full list and don't have all my comics in easy reach - but I think 8. Sad. But I got out of comics at the beginning of the decade and what few I was buying or have bought since are mostly indies. Anyway I vote do the 80s next, I definitely have some of the more iconic examples from that decade.
These lists are almost impossible, but you had some pretty agreeable things in there. Glaring omissions in my mind are X-Men 5, Spidey 1, Captain America 1 (Garney,) and Travis Charests' New Horizons covers.
I always loved that Batman 465,it's in my PC for sure. On a side note I know it's his staff folded up, but when I first saw it I thought it was some sort of gun, lol.
All Marvel and DC, plus Spawn and one Simpsons book? Bro, you gotta broaden your horizons. There was an indie comics boom in the early 90s, with a ton of great cartoonists. You didn’t include any BWS covers? I know I’m biased, but still, he’s one of the greatest artists comics has ever seen.
Honestly? I loved the 90s covers. Kitschy yes, but at least people were willing to experiment with using the covers as a creative medium to play with. But as for art - I wish you included Dark Horse’s Grendel material such as “Grendel: War Child”. Or the Batman/Grendel collaborations. So unlike anything else.
Just got back my first ever, graded submissions from CGC..... I guess the "best" one of the lot that I was hopeful for, was New Mutants #98... I bought off the shelf when I was in High School... so I paid cover price for it... but came back a 9.4... I feel like I got kicked in the nads!!! how defeating. Other two was a 9.6 and 9.8, but at the cost for grading, that won't be a habit :P LOL
*_Sure, do each decade, it's "content" for a rainy day you don't feel like making an up-to-date video._* *_But, you know, that was only 1-2 non Marvel/DC books. There's A LOT of indie '90's books with great covers._*
