Dude...this is for sure one of the BEST list rundown videos in the VC I’ve ever seen. Plenty I haven’t heard of and I’m so excited to check many of these out. Your collection and knowledge of 70s punk is amazing to say the least. Kudos! I like the laid back vibe, too! ✌🏻
I'm with you. The kidd is the MAN. My b-side bartender. This list is so refreshing from a genre I thought I already beat to death. I've playlisted this shit to death and now I'm not listening to jazz anymore. What's floored me the most? Consumers "Anti Anti Anti" Outcasts "Clinical Love" Pure Hell (all of it) and the Jam's "Away From the Numbers" which I foolishly didn't pay attention to in the past. Plus being from Toronto I like the Canadian adds of Teenage Head and Diodes, but gotta wonder where's the Viletones?
Turn up Mark!!! You know it baby! So glad ya dig the list. Canada has some amazing punk bands! If it were singles Viletones would of absolutely made the list. I think their first LP came out on the early 80s. Cheers my brother!! Rock N Rule!
@@RyanKidd77 Pleasure Ryan, Subs are my favourite band and I bought all the early albums and singles when released. Charlie is a legend and just turned 80, they are still playing festivals and were at the big Rebellion festival in Blackpool a few weeks ago. I look forward to watching some of your other videos...
I am an old fart with a more than passing interest in ( 70s and some 80s) punk. Have to say you have one hell of a collection. What really impresses me is your genuine knowledge and spot on descriptions. Great vid!
Almost all lps in my collection exept the pack and a couple others. Haven't bought lps in over 25 years. These lps still get by blood flowing and makes me happy. Great stuff cheers !
Since you remind me of Dave Foley from Kids In The Hall, I imagined this entire video a skit by him. Great video, I have a lot of stuff to listen to...but no mention of Subhumans (UK), I think they were active from 77 on till today as Citizen Fish. I appreciate your sincere enthusiasm and how you sell the music to me like you would a friend. Keep up the cool videos, dude.
@@philipargo haha I love that! I believe The Subhumans first LP came out in the early 80s right? This is just for the 70s. Love that band tho, still incredible live. I’m so glad you liked the video. I try to make these videos like we are hanging out and listening to tunes. Cheers!
Yo Kidd fantastic review truely amazing, love your thurst for these bands ... We share the True Punk attitude and angst. A job well done... The Ramones, DamneD, Sex Pistols ... The Clash, Buzzcocks, Stiff Little Fingers i grown up with they're timeless ...my all time Favorites . Hanx for turning me on to those lesser known bands , ill be on the hunt for those Lps. Kudos to Vinyl Richie for turning me on to your channel. Dude we're a Dying Breed... Rock on my Friend
Hey what an absolute excelent list Ryan! - It made me go back to pick up some of my own all time favourites like Adverts, Buzzcocks, Cure, Damned, Radiators, Stranglers, Vibrators and Television. I once bought that Vibrators album at a record shop in Stockholm, Sweden, just for the cool cover - never heard of the band before, but it became one of my all time favourites. That said my number one and two punk bands were always The Clash - and Stiff Little Fingers - and number three probably The Damned shared place with Buzzcocks!
Hey thanks for watching! So happy this made ya break out some of the classics! That’s wild, The Vibrators in a supermarket haha!! London Calling is definitely an all time classic. Cheers
@@RyanKidd77 Thanks for your reply. Well I meant to write a "department store" - it was a vinyl shop section inside of that mall or whatever you call such big market place. Still it was a real lottery win by pure chance - such a cool band Vibrators!
That was one hell of a list! Absolutely brilliant 👏. So glad you ranked SLF's inflammable material higher than never mind the bollocks. Personally, that would have been number one for me. I love SLF. They are awesome live! Great video 👍
@@RyanKidd77 SLF are great caught them in Leeds couple years back missed them this year. Nobodies Heroes for me is the best although I really do like their live stuff like HANX.
Great video, loved it! I was born in 1957 and was working full time in the mid 70s and buying tons of records. I have about 60 of the records you've shown in the video. Some I'm not familiar with. One of my first Punk LP purchases was a blue vinyl Belgium pressing of Damned Damned Damned when released in 77.
Thank you for watching. Means a lot coming from someone who lived it, much respect. Believe it or not I have that Belgian pressing on blue wax too, was lucky enough to get that when I was working at a record store. For that to be your first Punk LP bought is incredible man. Cheers!
''Broadway looks so medieval''... well chosen and well said for mr T.V.'s combo... and there i was waiting for the drum roll, but i knew it could only be D-D-D, the real mccoy. Cheers from Portugal, Ryan. I stood and i'm standing until the end, all this reminded me i was 14 in 77, and as you know, 7 and 7 is...
Good job, love the enthusiasm and you have a nice collection, some of these I've never seen or heard of. Mad knowledge also, just a few more bits of trivia; Chiswick, an area in London is pronounced Chissik (that's the English language for you). The little boy on the Blockheads LP is Ian Dury's son Baxter and Henry Rollins owns the original painting from The Ruts LP cover.
Hey Ryan. Epic video! Thanks for taking time to do this top 100 countdown. Admittedly I veer more toward the power pop/new wave side of punk but some classics here and many others I’m not familiar with so will check out. If you still spin CDs occasionally I recommend excellent 3-Cd set on Cherry Red “Harmony In My Head: UK Power Pop & New Wave 1977-1981” includes some bands you mentioned such as Buzzcocks, Ruts, Chelsea, Radio Stars, the Boys, Eddie and Hot Rods, and Rich Kids. Cheers! / Matt
Love this list! I only had about 15 when I first watched this video a few months ago. I put these on a spreadsheet to hunt for in the wild. I'm up to 30 without a single dud in there. Thanks for the direction!
Magnificent effort that made me subscribe instantly. This video takes me back to my teens. In 1977 I was sixteen years old and on a school trip to London, unreal experience. A list not only with US/UK bands, good job Kidd. Unfortunately not including my favourite Swedish band of that era, Problem from Malmoe. Their self titled album released on Smash Records is a gem, a classic, and streamable on Spotify. Their follow-up "Gandhis Bar", also very cool album.
Thank you for your kind words! Thank you for recommending that album I will absolutely check it out. Keep those recommendations coming I love checking out new groups. Cheers!!
Awesome video Ryan! I think that 60% of these bands and records I have not heard before. Was so cool to see Ratsia LP! It's OK with #7 pick man :) Huge kudos to you for putting all those post it notes. I salute you
Thanks Doc! What a bonehead move #7 was 🤦♂️. Appreciate you watching this one was a marathon. Had a blast with you all on the livestream last night. Let’s do it again sometime. Cheers
I was fully prepared to sneer and moan at your list man, then you chose Damned as your number one. Also I learned about a Swedish and Finnish band I didn’t previously know. Cheers from northern Canada!
That video on the 70’s punk was really cool! I had my pen and notepad out, I had a lot of these records but I appreciate that there was so many records I need to know more about The Diodes The outcasts PF Commando Penetration Jilted John The Lurkers Jonny Mo-ped Hubble Bubbles The Depressions These are some of the bands that I have newly acquired albums based on the video. Keep up the good work -Joe from Cleve-o
Punk is such a wide spectrum, you think you know all the cool punk bands then BOOM, you come out with this video, that has a lot of punk bands I don’t know. I also listened to vibrators pure mania on repeat when I bought it.
People don’t realize how deep the Punk rabbit hole is haha. So glad ya got some new bands out of this video. Enjoy the tune and thanks a lot for watching Robert. Cheers
hey dude , very nice collection , i love Punkrock , i'm from 1968 and i own a lot of the records of your list !! butt ...haha...the're 2 Damned records in your list ! But i agree that your Nr 1 is also mine !! I'm from Belgium and i'm very glad to see Hubble Bubble and The Kids in your collection .
@@RyanKidd77 yo Ryan , i'm also looking out for The Zero Boys "living in the eighties " , great Punkrock , do you know P.I.G.Z "bloody belgium " 7 inch and de jeugd van tegenwoordig " wij " ( not to be confused with de Dutch R&B band !! ) , both very rare collector items , but you can listen to the music on this channel , cheers man & have fun.
There are so many bands I’ll have to check out now. This was amazing thanks! Was surprised there was no Elvis Costello, I was expecting to see this years model on the list, but maybe that a little to new wavey.
Great video. So many great albums you mention. Many of them are favorites. I'll throw in my Top 5. 1. Ramones-Rocket To Russia 2. Sex Pistols-Never Mind The Bollocks 3. The Vibrators-Pure Mania 4. The Saints-Eternally Yours 5. U.K. Subs-Another Kind Of Blues. Jilted John-True Love Stories is a great unknown gem. Nice to see it in your Top 100. Features three of my bands with recordings from 1979 to 1980. It's DIY. Would be very interested in your opinion being your a '77 era punk guy. And it's OK if you do not care for it. The bands are The Air Pirates, Shock and The Void.
@@RyanKidd77 Thank you very much Ryan! That is so nice of you to say. Given your punk pedigree, it means a lot! We had a lot of fun with The Void. I look forward to your future insights. Thanks again!
Man, and I thought I knew some shit haha. What a list, dude, you've contributed to my Discogs cart growing incrementally. Love the channel, man, your enthusiasm matches the vibe that got me started in the VC 6 or so years back and it rules to see content creators still putting this kind of passion into what they do.
Outstanding selection Ryan. Wipers "Is This Real?" came out on Park Avenue Records in 1979. I know this becaues I purched it in November 79 right after it was released.
Impressive selections. Finally someone mentions the The Fall. I wish you could have found room for John Cooper Clarke, Pere Ubu, two San Francisco bands from 1977, The Avengers and the Sleepers. Anyway, well done, thx for the work.
John Cooper Clarke got an honorable mention and Pere Ubu is on there with The Modern Dance. Love the fall. Was gonna put The Avengers in there but that comp of their singles came out in 83 I think. Thanks a lot for watching man much appreciated
Folks! Where's the thumbs up?! Ryan just dropped mad knowledge... show some respect! ( : Loved the video! The Real Kids? Thank you my man! Love for the Gang of Four?! Duly noted! Smoke 'em if ya got 'em and keep the Vids comin' I will be waiting!!
Modern lovers, Suicide, Damned, Buzzcocks.. some good ones in there! this is a mega journey. I appreciate that you put stars / numbers on each so you would lose track. I lose track within 10 records hahah

great one, Ryan - never heard the Chome album, but now it's on my list-cool weirdness. Swell Maps was a nice add. appreciate straight shooting on the ones with clunkers...hah! cheers and many beers!
Hey. Nice job. I'm a first gen punk rocker. I was 20 when it hit and man it changed my life and my music collection. Did I not see any Ramones? Or any Wire? I went thru real fast.
Wow, that was quite a rundown. I don't think I've even heard of half those bands. There's some other guy in the VC who has problems with that BC Rollers always popping up. Great list Ryan!
Congratulation for your very dedicated vinyl collection and thanks for including The Drones in your list. I think this is one of the best 77 debut albums from the punk era. The vinyl sound is pure napalm for my ears and it's very catchy too. In a perfect world, this debut album, it would be a rock and roll classic.
Thanks for your answer Ryan and if you are searching for more uk82 punk, there is a band called The Blood: False Gestures for a Devious Public, there is a cheap vinyl reissue available, it's a mix of Motorhead and Oi. I found this one by accident, it blew my mind. Keep it going!!!!
Ok Ryan, here is some stuff that i have, maybe in discogs, recommended too: -Out of Order: Paradise Lost (1986, USA) -Los Peores de Chile: Compilator ( Uk Subs influenced, from my country: Chile) -Plasmatics: New Hope for the Wretched (1980, USA, this one in Discogs for sure) -The Stalin: Stop Jap ( 1982, from Japan) -Ultimo Resorte: Larga Sombra del Punk ( From Spain, stuff from late seventies early 80's) Bonus Track: GG Allin and the Jabbers, first album, killer stuff!!! Cheers!!
I remember at the time we brought records either because of word of mouth from likeminded people or because you had seen a band live or because something got added to the ‘new releases’ lists from the specialist record shop adverts at the back of The New Musical Express or one of the Fanzines. Never from reviews. There was a list of about 60 Punk Type singles and about 25 albums and it rarely changed or got added to from month to month in 1976/77. But by early 78 everybody was jumping on the Punk Bandwagon and every record company wanted to sign the next Punk sensation. And those punk record releases grew 10 fold over night every record company suddenly had a big budget to spend on recording Punk Albums. The Clash held out the longest before signing to CBS. You were either happy you finally could have something to listen to by the best live band in London Or you accused them of selling out to the establishment. We had waited for so long to get something on Vinyl by The Clash. And when ‘The Clash’ the debut album finally came out it was overproduced and sounded like it was recorded in a trashcan ! Nothing like the powerhouse we were used to hearing live. Disappointing. They never did manage to replicate their ‘tight’ live sound on record.
Great video, Ryan . A lot of of albums on that list that I own but even more that I'd never heard of, but I'll be checking them out , now. Special respect for having The Boys in there, very underrated band, even here in the UK . I saw them , supporting The Ramones, in 1980. They were the better band ( in my humble opinion).
Thank you! I’m glad you dig it. The Boys are one of my favorites, such a great group. Wow what a bill! I could see them giving the Ramones a run for their money. Thanks for watching! Cheers!
This is great, I’ll have to watch it multiple times. Only could have been better if it was top 100 70s punk 45’s ( lol) but maybe you’ll do that one next.
70s punk is my favorite genre. I had a lot of albums but it was nothing compared to your collection. This was the most impressive group of punk that I have ever seen. I have been wanting that Only Ones album, to your point Another Planet With You is killer. My 999 album with Homicide has a different cover, I have never seen the one you showed. I could go on and on but I will just say killer collection. Steve
Is there more than 100 punk albums that were made in the 70's ? So now you're saying 100 punk bands of the 70's, wow, I didn't think there was that many.
I have all but 16 albums on vinyl from your list. The ones I don't own are Radio Stars, Radiators From Space, Panic, Jilted John, Rich Kids, Automatcs, Joe Cool & The Killers, Cock Sparrer, Eppu Normal, Raxola, PF Commando, Outsiders, Consumers, Warsaw Pact, Ratsia, and Teenage Head. I have all the others you showed and most of them I would rank highly. There are some albums that you did not place on your top 100 list that would make mine. These include the first album by Tubeway Army from 1978, Wreckless Eric's first album from 1978, The Pop Group album Y from 1979, the first album by Magazine Real Life from 1978, Alberto Y Lost Trios Paranoias third album Skite from 1978, Adam & The Ants first album Dirk Wears White Sox from 1979, The Sods first album Minutes To Go from 1979, The Rude Kids album Safe Society from 1979, The Brats album The Lost Tapes recorded in 1979 but unreleased until 2008, Rotzkotz album Much Funny from 1979, The Cramps Gravest Hits from 1979 some people would call it a mini-album because it has only five songs but I'd include it, Th' Cigaretz only album Crawl Rite Out My Skin from 1979, MX80 Sound first album Hard Attack from 1977, (some might say thier second album Out Of The Tunnel is better but it was released in 1980, although recorded in 1979) and while I am mentioning that, Hoosier Hysteria, the split LP of The Gizmos and Dow Jones & The Industrials was released in 1980, but I do not know if it was recorded in 1979...it very well might have been. I love BOTH The Gizmos and Dow Jones & The Industrials. - there are probably other amazing 1970s punk rock albums I might mention, but I think you probably have most of the best of the best included on your list. There are some albums like The B-52s first album, the first album by Squeeze, the first album by Lene Lovich, Stateless, the album by Fashion, Product Perfect, the Talking Heads, Joe Jackson, Fad Gadget, Elvis Costello, XTC, The Yachts, and other groups like that, who I am guessing you do not include because you regard The B-52s and groups like that to be "New Wave" and not punk...but then you had mod, Powerpop, post-punk, and proto-punk groups on here too, which made it hard to know what you might consider or not consider to be under the big umbrella of "punk rock." But if "New Wave" were included as a branch of the "punk rock" tree, there are some of those sorts of albums I'd include.
Hey Ryan, thanks for the video, I loved watching it (and taking a lot of notes too) I'd appreciate if you could provide more of your comments (personal or objective) about the music in each LP though, yeah but that's OK. Anyway, I'll take the risk of sounding like a wiseass yet sorry I need to state this : the decade 1970's start with January 1st, 1971 and ends on December 31st 1980. So you may wish to exclude a 1970 release and no problem to include a 1980 release in the 70's period. Cheers.
Thanks for watching this whole thing I know it’s way too long! I will do an 80s one eventually but that’s gonna be really really hard haha. So much excellent stuff from that decade. Cheers brother!
@@RyanKidd77 If you do the '80s I recommend checkin' out Forever Came Today by The Flesheaters. It's my 80's fav. and from this video I think it might be in your wheelhouse.
Great list. I have a number of these in vinyl-mostly in the top 50. Two records I don’t know what happened to. Crass’s Feeding of the 5000 I have the poster sleeve but I’m not sure what happened to the vinyl and the UKSubs Another kind of blues is just missing. That 1979 cutoff is tough. So many great records from the early 80’s. Some favorites from then Agent Orange, Adolescents, Angry Samoans, Savage Republic, D.O.A., Dead Kennedy’s, The Cramps, Bad Religion, Mission of Burma, Alleycats, Bad Brains, Minor Threat, X, TSOL, Husker Du, Black Flag, Effigies just from the North American side of the Atlantic. Love the Fall, the Ruts, UKSubs, the Clash, the first three Wire Albums, Joy Division, SLF and Gang of Four. All bands I’d put in at least my top 25 all time.
Thanks Larry! Appreciate it. You mention that cutoff, when I was going through my LPs for this there were SO many that were 1980 and just missed the 70s. All those you mentioned being apart of that. Maybe I’ll do an 80s one of these someday . Cheers
@@RyanKidd77 I know man it's crazy! That is my all time favorite besides Horror Business which is only a 45. Hypothetically speaking if Static Age was released released would it have made the list?
These ‘American’ Punk music lists are hilarious.......but I must admit this guy gets it,and is one of the best of the bunch. At least this collection are from the right era ! There is a reason why many punk bands spent much of the seventies in London or NYC and mot in California 🥴
No.......not at all mate you have a great feel for what it was really all about. (And a great collection too). Some of these American ‘Punk’ lists are so off the mark they are hilarious. They don’t even List the best US punk records, let alone anyone else’s ! you’ve even got Eppu Normalli in there ! I finally watched the whole video and I have 42 albums or bands you showed in my collection, but I did a lot of cheating. For example I included 5 or 6 CD's. Then, if I have an album or a compilation equally as good, as the album you showed by the same band, or if I own a good chunk of their discography it counted as having the album. Also I included one of your honorable mentions and your "mistake".
Ryan, my rankings over the years have been pretty firm but there has been some significant movement from time to time. I write this to spark some conversation, hopefully some of your viewers will weigh in. The topic is the Ramones best album. I not only currently have Rocket To Russia as the Ramones best album but as the best punk record ever (that album dethroned Never Mind The Bollocks some time ago which was big for me as well). I believe you had it at number 2. I absolutely love the first 3 Ramones albums and the live record as well. My favorite Ramones songs are "We're A Happy Family" and "Pinhead". Just recently, I am starting to feel the Ramones 1st album may be their best. This is a major development for me :). "Chainsaw", "I Don't Wanna Go Down To The Basement" and the scorching "Havana Affair" are tough to beat. I am currently struggling with this and look forward to your input. "Loudmouth" ain't too shabby either and all of the other classics on this album like "Blitzkrieg Bop", "Beat On The Brat" and "Listen To My Heart",,,the list goes on and on. It's definitely their most valuable album as well. What do you think? The decision has not been made yet. Rocket To Russia is also off the charts phenomenal. When I look at the tracks of each album, the debut just might reclaim number 1.....
A fun question and I’d love to see other peoples thoughts on this too. The way you’re feeling about these Ramones records I get that way with a few bands. My favorite could change from day to day or how I’m feeling. When it comes to The Ramones I’ll put my 2 cents in. I think Rocket To Russia is their best and the S/T is their most important. We’re A Happy Family is my favorite Ramones song too! Haha! For awhile I played It’s Alive more than any of the studio stuff.
@@RyanKidd77 It's definitely a fun debate to have. Your analysis of it is a good one. I still have not made the call as of yet but I'm starting to lean towards the S/T. Funny you mention the live album, It's Alive. It is such a great album, it could very well be their best album. There are only a handful of bands where the live album is my favorite album of theirs. Uriah Heep is the most obvious one. Here is the It's Alive review I wrote on Allmusic: Written February 13, 2018 5 Stars It's Alive is without question one of the best live albums of all-time. A bit more raw and punked out than their indispensable and iconic first three albums, It's Alive could be the best way to listen to the great Ramones. All of their greatest songs are here; "We're A Happy Family", "Pinhead", "Havana Affair", "Commando", "Rockaway Beach" and "Teenage Lobotomy" are some of the highlights. But this album is an absolute blast from start to finish. I had the privilege to see the Ramones in their prime and this album is an absolute treasure.
@@yokerecords803 I agree, I think it could be their best!! Your review of it is perfect. It’s funny I bought It’s Alive II on RSD when it came out last year. I was so excited for it and I put it on and it’s basically the exact same thing. There really wasn’t a point in releasing it haha. I think it was recorded the night before It’s Alive was recorded. I can find good in all Ramones albums except Acid Eaters. That one I don’t care much at all for. What’s your favorite song on the first LP?
@@RyanKidd77 I know right? It's Alive might be their best, crazy. Thanks for the review compliment. First, Acid Eaters also may be my least favorite. I know my favorite LP after the first 5 including It's Alive is Too Tough To Die. I love "Wart Hog". My favorite song on the 1st LP is without question "Havana Affair". That says something for that song because there are many great tunes but that one is my best hands down.
@@yokerecords803 I was spinning Too Tough To Die last night. Wart Hog is killer. I love that album. I also gave the solo Joey Ramone record a spin afterwards. I really enjoy that record too. It’s so hard for me to pick a favorite song off the first record. So many good ones. 53rd and 3rd with Dee Dees shrieking vocals might take the cake haha.
Thanks Dean, appreciate you watching brother! I think the same year Tell Us the Truth came out so did That’s Life by Sham. Both stellar records. Cheers
This would be the ideal collection for me but I just never find a lot of punk either on discogs at a decent price or in the wild, it's like people in my country never knew or care about punk. Radio stations never played it because they were too busy with classic rock hits. So I had to settle for the next best thing, having the basics (Damned, Ramones, Bad Religion, Jam, etc), a rare punk album here and there and lots of New Wave, post-punk, proto-punk, synth pop, power pop, 80's and 90's alternative, and all the genres (both rock and non rock) that came after punk and were influenced is some way by it. Anyway, your video would be very informative because there are here a lot of "new" bands to me or bands I just hear or read about and never found on vinyl.
Where are you from Alejandro? It took me a long time, a lot of searching and patience to get a lot of these records. The payoff is a great feeling when you find one of em though. If you go through the list there are a bunch that won’t break the bank and are still excellent records. I’m glad you enjoyed the video, and found out about some new bands. Cheers brother!
@@RyanKidd77 I'm from Guatemala, where looking for records you'll look through maybe 1000 records of latin pop, rancheras, ballads and you'll find maybe like 40 rock albums and only 1 punk album in the bunch lol. Heard a cassette of Never Mind the bullocks at school and blew my mind, started looking for punk since. Still I have maybe 30 to 40 or so albums from your top 100. Discogs was a big help just a little expensive sometimes because of extra shipping and import taxes. I'm really happy with what I got, have a lot of non punk genres but they exists or were made relevant thanks to punk, so the punk revolution is for me when music started being cool.
@@MsKalachakra Guatemala wow! I’m sorry to hear the Punk is slim pickins over there! Never mind The Bollocks will do that to you when you hear it, a total game changer! @@RyanKidd77 Thanks Ryan. Yes, Ramones and Bad Religion I think are the bands with the best and more extensive discographies in punk. (Damned and Fugazi are close). I own all the 70's and 80's Ramones albums on vinyl. I'm very interested how punk changed literally everything, for example punk influence on metal (Like the NWOBHM), on hip.hop, on funk, even on the 90's latin rock explosion (pachuco punk) and it's impact on all 80's ,90's and early 2000 alternative music. Since I can't find much punk I became a post punk guy I guess.
Fuck yes! Ratsia and Eppu Normaali. And yeah they do Stiff Little Fingers cover. Maximum Jee Jee is great and I own it but I love even more ther first album called Aknepop. The Jam, Rezillos, Pure Hell, Dictators, Eater, Alternative TV, Radio Birdman, PIL, Modern Lovers, whole top 30. Labor of love indeed. Would love to see your take on 80's punk albums. Feels like we have the same record collection almost hehe. Great work man. Cheers, Petri
Ryan, you are just like me, only younger and better looking. Missing two albums from Holland. Speedtwins , and the flyin spiderz. The spiderz was me first gig 77/78. Stay wild
Just finished watching.....you do really know your stuff (especially for a yank) ! This one list makes up for all the God awful US Punk lists that less informed individuals have produced. Your top 21 is pretty much my top 21. I must admit I don’t know a lot about The Boys (But I will do by the end of the Weekend). NMTB is a bit low down rhe list Should have been No.1 in my view but you had The Damned at the top so that is forgivable. Nice to see The Vibrators V2 getting so high up the list too. That was never off the turntable when I first brought it. To me this was the definitive list of Punk Albums. No matter how much other Lists try to misinform and re-write history. You have created Something special here buddy, you should be very proud of yourself.
Thanks Guy. The Boys are one of my favorites, the first LP shown here to me is their best. I was the same way when I first got that Vibrators, couldn’t stop spinning it. I would of loved to see them live back then. I was spinning Pogo Dancing the other day by Chris Spedding backed by the Vibrators. What a fun tune. Cheers
@@RyanKidd77 Yes at one point you would open up a gig list for the night and could guarantee The Vibrators would be playing somewhere most mights. Used to bump into Knox quite regularly in Wardour Street, Or in Hammersmith or at The Music Machine.
@@guylawrance2216 that’s awesome. I’ve seen the Vibrators a few times with just Eddie the drummer, and one tour they had Nigel from The Members. Better than nothing but would of been cool to see em with Knox
@@RyanKidd77 I used to see them at other peoples gigs either in the audience or propping up the bar more times than I saw them live. Dib you know The B Side of their single London Girls(Live)/ Stiff Little Fingers inspired Jake Burns to name his band. Knox is concentrating more on his painting these days, he is a pretty good portrait painter so I am told, he will be 77 years young next September 😳
@@guylawrance2216 very cool, what a time to live through. I have that single it’s excellent, and a great pic sleeve. I didn’t know that’s where he got the inspiration, makes sense tho. My favorite thing to collect are the 70s Punk singles.
@Ryan Kidd almost impossible to narrow it down but that's why i wanna see it! My buddy Josh and I have been debating this video and where we'd place things for weeks. Cheers!
Did you have a high paying job since age 6? Ha! That size of collection and massive amount of money to get it, your knowledge, and your age does not compute. Great vid! Thank you.
Haha hey thanks for watching I’m glad you enjoyed it. Been collecting for awhile now and I also worked at a record store for years so I was lucky enough to get first picks on a lot of this stuff. The owner also cut me some good deals. When I first started collecting some of this first wave Punk stuff wasn’t that expensive compared to the prices now that have seemed to skyrocket.
@@RyanKidd77 Right on. Thank you for the explanation! I know its a top 100 vid, some dont care about other details, but your history of how you gained such knowledge and a collection that size interested me just as much as your choices. Keep it up and thanks again!
@@hectic5173 haha I understand. When I heard that first wave Punk for the first time I fell in love instantly. I ate, slept and drank it. I still do haha! Cheers brother!
Greetings, Would also love to see you tackle the best punk albums of the 80s, if you haven't already. Some great albums from Crass, Descendents, Misfits, Flipper, X, Dead Kennedys, The Minutemen, New Model Army, Killing Joke, God Bullies, Tragic Mulatto, Bad Religion, Alice Donut, Nomeansno, The Jam, The Damned, Husker Du. Just a few off the top of my head. 100 albums, that's a lot of work. Maybe top 50? You do have your liquid fuel at the ready though. Enjoy the weekend!
Hell yeah man! Great list! It was cool to see Hubble Bubble, Only Ones, the Pack, the Kids, and Raxola!! For me, I’d wedge in Epicycle, PVC (Germany), the Dogs (France), Big Balls and the Great White Idiot (Germany), Pagans, The Zeros, The Tokyos...and CRIME. Edit: Gah, I just remembered ‘X’ (Australia) and the Electric Eels!! Soooo much good punk out there.
Thanks Jesse! I love those bands, but did they put out proper albums? Picked up Epicycle a few months ago it’s terrific. Crime is complete savagery , killer Punk! I actually just picked up that Tokyo’s 10” about 2 months ago, love it! Test Tube Baby is such a killer tune. Zeros are perfect dumb Punk, Wimp rules. I did pass on a PVC record not too long ago and I kick myself for it! So many great bands man, thank you for watching and the recommendations! Cheers
@@jessvex dude how wild are those demos?! Hard to imagine that’s the same band they sound so different haha! Another record I should of put on this list would be Magazine- Real Life, a great LP but I just never see it anywhere. You’ve got great taste brother, thanks so much for watching. Do you have a channel?
good list. All great records for sure. Good to see some lesser known stuff. The only one you mentioned that i'm not familiar with is the Pop Rivets...I'll have to look them up. I never have anyone to talk about Warsaw Pakt with! Still hunting for an original press of that Ratsia album - that shit rules. Cheers
The most fun making this video happened with the first 60 records cause I knew it would either be bands that’s people haven’t heard yet or would be really pumped to see. We all know the classics so it’s really fun to talk about the lesser known stuff. Warsaw Pakt is excellent. Was that their only output? It’s the only thing I have from em. Ratsia is pure class brother. Cheers!
@@RyanKidd77 Warsaw Pakt put out a 7" in 1977 that is good too. Apparently they put out a cassette of outtakes in 1979 but i never heard that stuff. The single is worth tracking down tho
Hey man great video. Now I have a list of new (for me ) bands and records to check out. I’m just curious though; are these records your favorite or ones you just think overall are the best ? That may be worded weirdly so I’ll use the Beatles as an example whether you like them or not doesn’t matter. I agree with most critics that sgt peopers is their best record. They’re probably at the peak of their career sonically and creatively, technical song structures, the entire album seems to be seamless, production is great etc. Although it’s not my personal favorite. I would prefer rubber soul or revolver. I just enjoy the fact it’s at their turning point of their career and I think some of the songs are just cooler. But more importantly there’s a nostalgia factor. Does this make sense and did this have anything to do with you choosing specific records over others ?
Great question! It is a little of both, but mostly my favorite stuff. The order of these rankings could change daily based on how I’m feeling and what I’m in the mood for. More than ranking these albums my goal in this video was to have fun showing my favorite genre and maybe turn people on to bands they may never have heard. Thank you for watching, cheers!
Ah dude so happy to share some new finds with ya! Hope ya like em. Thanks for subscribing. Do you have content? Will sub to ya and check it out if ya do. Cheers
Lots of great stuff. Didnt see the lower numbers. Connection problems. Honorable mention to The Buzzcocks- Spiral Scratch ( because it's an EP) but its the 1st self financed, self labelled record and was the birth of indie. Also Birmingham (uk) band the Prefects
Low Numbers are cool, Shok Treetments is a real cool tune. Spiral Scratch is classic. A few videos ago I showed Spiral Scratch along with a cool comp called Times Up which is more takes from those sessions. Have to check out The Prefects! Thanks for watching brother, cheers!
