A miss cue with med-high power can damage the tip depending on the hardness of the tip being used. They are checking for damage. I check every time as well. I don't blame the tip, I blame myself for performing the shot incorrectly.

I don't consider the shot of Liang @3:28 as a bad shot,because he scattered all the reds all around the table and ended up near the cushion which consider a safety shot and put his opponent in a difficult situation,I consider it a lucky shot.

snooker players afraid of cue ball jumping while pool players proud of theis skill jumping the cue ball. that's simple huge difference

That, plus I think because the table is so much larger, they need to hit the ball harder. So when the the cue tip touches the table in a shot, it does more harm to the tip than it would when you intentionally jump in pool. At least that's what I thought. I don't really know much about snooker though.

All those jumpshot would be fouls in pool too. You can't scoop the cue ball from under for a jumpshot. To legally jump, you need to hammer it onto the table from over.

Why risk damage to the table, tip and balls if you don't need to? Even without that issue, it doesn't always look like even the top pool pros can tell exactly what the cueball will do after they hit a jump shot. That randomness is bas enough on a 9 ft table, let alone 12ft

Snooker is chiefly a British game, a big part of our culture that much of us grew up with. The only other places it is popular are mostly Commonwealth countries and China, so if you are not from any of those place, it makes sense that you wouldn't know what's going on.

It's just leaving all the reds wide open which gives his opponent a much greater chance at potting them and thus racking up a high break and winning the frame.

Elite players can only pay with their own cue. They can't get used to a replacement cue in a single match as it would react differently.

The player miscued, meaning he did not at all hit the cue ball the way he would have wanted. You can listen again to the sound that made, very different from the "usual" sound.

No it was a bad shot, he went for the double and missed it. He played it at a pace where if he missed it he would've been very lucky to leave it safe. He could've either played it firmly to have a chance of it landing safe or he could've played a safety. So it's a bad shot.
