Thanks for watching everyone! Apologies for any audio glitches in this episode, they didn’t appear while editing! I’ll try and find out what happened. Hope it wasn’t too distracting and you enjoyed the list anyway! 😊
Made a comment about it but wanted to double down 😅 Noticed some clipping in your audio stitching. I’m an audio producer, if you are looking for any help polishing this channel! I love the channel! Just found it yesterday and have scrolled through a ton of it already! I love retro games and would love to help! Let me know if you wanna chat! Cheers
You have great taste! I’m a huge N64 fan and the usual lazy comments from its detractors always wind me up too. And yes, the original controller is still the best way to experience the games.
The goldeneye 007 N64 game isn't the same without the gun style rear controller Z trigger 🎮 that's what made it feel like a real gun 🔫 in the game!!! People have no idea how good the N64 controller was!!! 🥰
Always love seeing your game lists! I don’t have an N64 so I play all my N64 games through the Wii Virtual Console, but I’ve been eyeing the PS1 version of Gauntlet Legends and it was so cool to see you mention it :D thanks for all the recommendations! I’ll be looking out for these!
I love your enthusiastic and upbeat delivery. Great job! I was about to subscribe because of that, but I already had lol. Great content. I love hearing about other people's favourite games on this console that aren't Mario and Zelda. There were some really innovative and interesting titles in this generation, and there are definitely more good than bad games on the system. To answer your question about my favourites, they are all the Turoks, Doom 64, Quake and Quake 2, Forsaken, Body Harvest, Mischief Makers, Banjo Kazooie, Shadow Man, Mission Impossible, Diddy Kong Racing, Beetle Adventure Racing, San Francisco Rush, Jet Force Gemini, Hexen, Duke Nukem Zero Hour, and many many more
Diddy Kong Racing is also my most played N64 game, no doubt. My best childhood friend had it, later on my girlfriend had it, now we are married and I have it, too. Looking forward to the day I get to play it with my daughters.
Jet Force Gemini is one of my absolute all-time favorites - the scope and exploration of that game was incredible, and the amount of time it took for me to complete that game was crazy, but it was that much more rewarding for how long the ending of that game evaded me. Lots of great games on the N64 - also want to give a shoutout to Bomberman 64, Bomberman Hero and DOOM 64 besides the great games mentioned in this video.
as a kid born in 81 I was in my teen when I got my N64 and it really is a superb consol and all its games. Also worked in a video game store so there is little games I have not played . There are so many great games on N64 that gets looked over besides the reguler like Mario, Zelda etc etc. Its nice with a list that are a bit diffrent.
Mischief Makers is awesome. Gotta get all those gold gems so you can see the whole ending. I love the boss where you riding on a cat I think and you have to jump, while on the cat, onto flying missiles, then catch more missiles and throw them back at the boss. Oh man, that game is so awesome. I haven’t played it in forever, but I remember getting all the crystals.
Great list, im surprised there were 6 games here i've never played. I also came back years later to finish mischief makers, loved it. Glad DKR made the list!
Fantastic recommends. They're all either in my collection or on my list already except for conkers, which I didn't really know anything about. Thanks for another good video! You covered a bunch of the best games and as always, were concise and genuine. I fear I'll never find a copy of space station silicon valley 😢 but maaaaaaybe one day
You started off with a banger. I want the N64 version so I can play it again. I had the same experience. Never played on N64 but at my local arcade I played it every time.
I am sorry my previous comment ended up long by the way 😂😢 had a lot of things to say as I really loved and enjoyed the video with an awesome list. 😊 I really am passionate about the older era of Nintendo, grew up with N64, SNES, Genesis, NeoGeo, GCN, PS2 and Dreamcast games ^.^
Hi, it was very interesting to learn about games like Gauntlet Legends and Chameleon Twist 2. One of those games on your list that I knew before is Lylat Wars. It's a really awesome game in my opinion, too! Also I enjoyed DK64 very much as well as Jet Force Gemini. Thinking of DK64, a friend of mine got this game just like a week before me, so we kinda explored it together. I was often curious to see the new levels he had reached, hoping I would get there myself soon. Brings up nice memories to me ;-)
All killer titles there, really enjoyed the video! I'm now looking forward to getting Chameleon Twist2 from your recommendation. I've more recently got back the enthusiasm for n64 & I'm loving it! I'm also discovering the jpn games, such awesome box art in most cases. There is so much for the n64 for the casual gamer or hard-core collector! Nice one 😉
Great list! Top games on my list excluding Mario & Zelda games are Perfect Dark & Golden Eye 007 (logged so many hours), Mystical Ninja: Starring Goemon, Resident Evil 2, WWF Warzone, Hybrid Heaven, Castlevania: Legacy of Darkness, Gauntlet Dark Legacy, Star Wars: Shadows of The Empire, 1080 Snowboarding, Bomberman 64, Mission Impossible, Quake 64, Iggy’s Reckin’ Balls, Turok 2: Seeds of Evil Games I haven’t played but want to try: Rayman 2: The Great Escape, Snowboard Kids,
Some of my favorites (not mentioned in the video) are: Turok 3, Rayman 2, Command & Conquer, Resident Evil 2, Paper Mario, Perfect Dark, Shadowman, Indiana Jones, F1 World Grand Prix, StarCraft64 and my absolute favorite Ogre Battle 64
I've got 7 of those 15 and do agree. Just regarding the original N64 controller mentioned a few times in this vid, I've been amazed at how good the Retro Fighters joystick is after my original controllers took a bit of wear and tear on the analogue stick. I prefer the Retro Fighters Brawler now.
@@nicolascarrion83 exactly. and im glad he didnt. im tired of lists that do include them. im glad he talked about games that dont get mentioned enough. at this point SM64 OOT, while great games feel overrated at this point
Great video! Apart from a friend who had one (we mainly played GoldenEye, naturally) the N64 largely passed me by at the time. I've since acquired one and I'm waiting for an HDMI mod to arrive so I can start to discover what I missed out on. Will definitely see if I can track some of these down. 👍
Awesome list, we got similar taste, so that's cool to see, my top 15 would look like... 15. Star Wars Rogue Squadron 14. Jet Force Gemini 13. Pokemon Stadium 2 12. Space Station Silicon Valley 11. Bomberman 64 10. Star Fox 64 9. Mario 64 8. Kirby 64: The Crystal Shards 7. Super Smash Bros. 6. Diddy Kong Racing 5. Banjo Tooie 4. Mischief Makers 3. Banjo Kazooie 2. Paper Mario 1.The Legend Of Zelda: Ocarina Of Time Many other games that I love that didn't make the list, N64's library is one of the best out there.
My favourite console of all time is, easily, the N64. Diddy Kong Racing is the game that made me want to buy one when I was 14. I still play it now, as do my kids. I totally agree with almost every pick on this list. My top 5 are 5. Castlevania 64 4. DKR 3. Shadow Man 2. Lylat Wars 1. Goldeneye 007.
my top 15 are = Pilotwings 64, Super Mario 64, Wave Race 64, Killer Instinct Gold, NBA Hangtime, Blast Corps, Star Fox 64, Tetrisphere, GoldenEye 007, Diddy Kong Racing, F-1 World Grand Prix, Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time, Turok 2: Seeds of Evil, F-Zero X & International Superstar Soccer 2000
So pleased to see Space Station Silicon Valley on your list. I have fond memories growing up and playing that game with my sister. The game was so wacky and different and yet so fun. Brilliant choice.
One of my favourites that I almost never hear people talking about is Rocket: Robot on Wheels. It's an old game by a little studio you may know, Sucker Punch Productions :-)
You love racing games huh! Great video. I like watching these favorite n64 game videos because I always think they'll be the same as mine but they never are!
Great list, literally started it off with a great classic and none of them disappointed. I just got a copy of Gauntlet Legends to add to my Blockbuster collection!
I once wrote a movie version of space station silicon valley, the basic plot is a space station was built to preserve natural bimes in space. then one day someon made a plan to cause it to crash and one lone tech manages to disarm the self destruct, but then has to escape from the station even though the sabateurs are using chip controlled animals and insects everywhere trying to kill him but when he escapes he identifies all of them.
These favorite lists are often diverse, and it shows that despite a comparatively small library, the 64 delivers on quality. Sin and Punishment, Doom 64, Rogue Squadron, Rocket Robot, and Ogre Battle are just a few more “exclusives” that prove the depth of the library. It’s also the console with the exceptional Evangelion game package that looks fantastic on my bookshelf.
Very nice hearing about your favourites. Among these I think F-Zero X is my favourite, it really got me hooked! On my top list Mysical Ninja Starring Goemon 2 reigns :)
To see how well these games have aged, my 7 and 10 year old kids love playing Banjo Kazooie and Diddy Kong Racing on the N64 (I still have the same one I played when I was a kid)
I love the wave race arcade stand up cab it’s awesome it even sounds and feels good watching your clip your right the response from the controls are spot on
N64 is my favorite console of all time and I'm playing it right now as I do daily! I adore the original controller and I take good care of mine. I own every N64 game that I could ever want as I spent 5 years collecting, spending a lot of my hard earned money, but worth every cent, and I would do it all over again right now if I had to.
Also, just found your channel, love the content! I don’t mean to overstep, but I am an audio guy-musician and producer. Noticed some artifacting and clipping between audio takes. If you want some help polishing your channel, I’d love to talk about working together some! Love what you are doing and would really enjoy working on content for retro games! Let me know what you think!
Can't tell you how much I played Gauntlet Legends with my brothers. I tried getting into the Dreamcast version and Dark Legacy and it's just not the same. So much nostalgia around it. I actually fired it up on the 32" JVC CRT TV at my parents yesterday, only ran the demo screen lol
I owned a N64 growing up in the 90's and my favorite games were all the mainstream games like Mario Kart, Mario 64, Mario Party, Zelda Ocarina of Time, Banjo Kazooie, Super Smash Bros, Bomberman 64, Starfox 64, Kirby 64, and Diddy Kong Racing. After watching your video and seeing the games I haven't played, I would say Chameleon Twist 2, Wave Race, Beetle Adventure Racing, and F Zero X look like fun games to check out.
It's hard to imagine a top 15 video that doesn't include Mario or Zelda that also does not include 1080 snowboarding. In a way it calls into question the validity of the list as a whole.
My most played games of all time on the N64 in no specific order was: Starfox Diddy kong racing Banjo Kazooie Wave Race (it was one of the first games) Mortal Kombat Trilogy Killer Instinct Gold Mortal Kombat 4 War Gods Bomber man 64 Turok (my friends came over and played this more) Extreme G 1&2 Yoshis Story Conkers bad fur day (loved bajo that had to try this) Zelda ocarina of time (due to the hype had to get it) Pilot wings 64 (it was one of the first games released and there wasn’t much games out yet so we played this a lot) Then a close second: Chameleon Twist 1 & 2 Blast corps Jet force Gemini Charlie blast territory Paper Mario Mischief makers Bomber man 2nd attack Star Wars Mario kart 64 Perfect dark Golden eye Glover Clayfighter Tonic Trouble Resident evil I was a huge fan of Rare because I noticed the games I played the most and had me glued and challenging and long and kept me excited to get home and continue were their games so I got excited that donkey Kong 64 was coming out and I remember the hype. I was hoping for another banjo Kazooie style and expecting to binge on that but I got donkey Kong 64 late in the N64 span and I was just getting Playstation2 (which I gave up on soon because they kept giving me errors and disc read problems and I had no patience for that so I opted to just be into cartridge type video games), I played donkey kongs first level and and it wasn’t as engaging as banjo Kazooie not sure if it was the characters, look, mechanic or gameplay but I didn’t pick it up much. Growing up and starting to go out with friends and working could have been a factor as well and I never submerged myself into it nor dedicated time on it as I did with Banjo (used to lose sleep and stay up all night even leave video game on 😂) but I’m not blaming the DK64, I only played the first level and don’t recall if I even completed it or got familiar with the gameplay and mechanics. To this day I still have not played my DK game and I’m looking forward to give it the attention it deserves.lol
U had my attention immediately when u said gauntlet legends. Had no idea there was an arcade version or a n64. I had it on ps1. First game i ever bought. And i loved it. Youd be surprised how many dont mention it. Only game missing from the list was extreme g racing. Imo that was better then fzero
Not really my top games but these are ones I think people should at least try that aren't obvious choices. Sin and Punishment. Jet Force Gemini. Rush 2049. Battletanx Global Assault. Duke Nukem Zero Hour. Quake 2. Ridge Racer 64. Cruis'n Exotica. Hydro Thunder. Forsaken 64. Star Wars Episode 1 Battle for Naboo. Aero Gauge. Bomberman Hero. Wipeout 64. Extreme-G.
The Nintendo 64 is such a wonderful classic gaming console and one of my favorite gaming consoles of all time. I love it when I find a Nintendo 64 game that's on my list more than other games from other consoles on my list. Wonderful Nintendo 64 list. Cool video. ^_^
I've always loved the N64 controller and I've never really understood people's complaints. The 3 prongs is a total non-issue for me and I'm not sure why it bothers people, and the analog stick feels so distinctly precise and tactile. It really lends itself well to fine movements more than any other stick imo. And like you said, you can really tell these games were tuned for this stick; Mario 64, F-Zero, etc. just feel wrong on any other controller. One thing that also contributes to Switch online feeling worse than real N64 is input lag (an inherent obstacle in software emulation). I think generally folks underestimate how much difference 1 or 2 frames of latency makes in how responsive a game feels. Really enjoyed this video; the N64 was my main childhood console (despite releasing well before I was born). Keep it up :)
Wave race is an incredible game. There hasn’t been a game that has come out since that captures what this game does. It’s kind of incredible how good it looks it too.
Very Nice List. I wondered that you have not exkluded rare Games but its very Hard to do a Best List without :D i personaly miss Blast Corps here. I Think the Game is so Awesome that Ideas is never been Done again, with Diddy Kong Racing and Banjo Kazooie definitly my Favorites too. Funny that you like on Stadium the Minigames the Most xD never hear anybody say that, for me it was always the Link Feature and the Possibility to Use my Game Boy Pokemon :)
Wait theres people that say n64 had no good games?!? Like 2 of the most iconic zelda games, peak mario with 64, paper mario, mario kart, smash bros, harvest moon, all of rareware?!!?? It even got ports for THPS1,2,3 And you cant forget the one the only... GEX baby yeah baby its all about the gex! LETS GO GEX!
Great, thanks! Could you please have the name of the games written on screen through their segments? that would help so much cause sometimes when you first announce the game we may have no clue/interest about it, but then as the segment goes along, we might get interested in that game and then we have to stop and go back to find the beginning of the segment just to get the name and then go back to where we were… uhhhggh.. (lol) Cheers mate!
silicon valley was actually one of my first games, i played it as a kid at my cousins house alot and i loved it. never got very far though so i think ill go back oneday.
I own both, the Nintendo 64 and the Sega Dreamcast version of Gauntlet Legends. I believe there is a version for PlayStation 2, but I think it is limited to two-player only.
