Too many non-survival games on this "list of survival games." If your criteria for survival game is "survive against something," then nearly every game out there is a "survival game" somehow or another, and the genre loses its meaning and becomes a useless term bandied about by every review ever. Here's a good way to start whittling down which games are truly survival games and which aren't: Ask yourself "do I need to eat food and drink water in this game?" and "will I die if I don't eat?" If the answer is yes _to both questions_ then you quite likely do have a survival game on your hands. It's maybe not guaranteed, but it's highly likely. If the answer _to either question_ is "no," then the game you're playing likely fits better into another caregory like "action/adventure" or "looter-shooter" or something, because it isn't truly what's referred to as a "survival game." All _actual_ survival games require you to eat food, and neglecting this requirement will always result in death eventually. It's a really good starting point for deciding if a game is actually a survival game or not. Some examples of actual survival games are: The Long Dark, Don't Starve, DayZ or Scum (despite their heavy focus on PVP, they're ultimately still survival games underneath,) The Forest, This Land is My Land, etc. Examples of non-survival games that still require you to "survive" something are: Super Mario 64, Call of Duty, The Last of Us, Red Dead Redemption, GTA, Horizon, and the vast majority of all games ever made.

The fact that THE best survival game The Long Dark is not on this list is quite maddening to me, but great vid anyway

I used to play Miscreated non stop it is now my 2nd game RUST has once again come into my life, with DayZ being some one I say hi to now and again. Miscreated is still played by a lot of hardcore gamers and recently gained some new players. But because the devs (IMHO) did not support it like RUST or DayZ to that matter it died off it was a beautiful game and the Island map was good, the Canyonlands maps was ok but to me far to open you could see for miles and no big city just a few small villages i would call them. Even now players still talk about the possibilty of of a Miscreated 2 but I do not think that will happen, which is a shame as there are a lot of ppl who enjoyed and still enjoy the original game. Miscreated is kept alive by modders, there are some decent modded servers and a few more maps made by them.
