VW Scirocco Spiess by Erwin Buck is my favourite monster. That little thing producing over 300 horsepower with a 2.0 N/A engine and with only 790 kilograms blew my mind. And also with a great driver behind the wheel - it's a supercar killer - faster than fucking Lamborghini and Porsche for 10 times more money. Bested only by some of the fastest monsters in Europe. Beast. ❤
Awesome to see Pieter Zeelie with his insane MR2 in the European hill climb races, but Nicolas Werver shows that you still can win with half the horsepower.
As awesome as the MR2 is, it looks like it's giving up tenths in turbo lag. The N/A Porsche is so much more on it. Hats off to Zeelie for the effort though!
@@creepingjesus5106there´s quite a bit more in play here. Werver is a super specialist of Osnabruck, having raced there for over 10 years now. Zeelie comes all the way from South Africa, only his second time there and little time behind the wheel of the MR2 since its last BIG evolution (pretty much just Simola). And what can´t really be seen on the vid is the lack of grip on that day, since during both Saturday and Sunday there was a lot of rain during small bits of time. Well, guess we have to start making React videos to our own Top 10/15 clips to give context on these little things :P
@@creepingjesus5106 I think you hit the nail on the head with this comment. The needed bursts of power on this track are so short that turbo lag does indeed play a big role, the turbo never gets time to spool up properly, for that longer stretches where the engine can rev up are needed. The Porsche NA engine on the other hand has its full power immediately on hand.
Wow this was a good one. E36 and lotus were driven so smooth, gt3 r was one of the best sounding mezgers I've ever heard. I like how you are putting the times at the end of the run as they cross the line, much better
Perfect video. So many beautiful machines, and there's even some onboards. The winner shows that it's mostly about the driver. There was a 992 in there too, mind you - 3 generations ahead of the 997.
Allow me to add to the cacophony of voices cheering on Zeelie and his batshit crazy MR2. Bringing it all the way up to Europe is a massive undertaking, but ya just love to see it. If he needs a solution for the antilag he could just hit up an F1 team while he's up in the EU and ask to borrow an MGU-H. Not like those dudes are gonna be needing em much longer lol.
Has the asphalt been particularly tricky this year? Because apart from Nicolas Werver with his 997 (and perhaps Erwin Buck with his Scirocco, I have no reference for these types of car), all the drivers seem so far from a good cornering speed close to the limit of grip. I say that because of the visual impression and the fact that in sim, you can do a run of ~1min with any gt3 in perfect conditions so only Nicolas was close to this time.
That is a very very good question. And you are right on the money, this year the asphalt was VERY tricky. What can´t really be seen on the vid is how dirty the surface is because there we 3 different periods of heavy rain during that weekend. So much so that one run was held fully wet, but for the sake of consistency on, we did not use footage from that point on this clip. We guess we might have to start doing React videos to our own Top 15 clips to give these little bits of context to explain performances and results.
1:01 Sounds like diesel to me. 2:08 Ahh...M3 GTR sounds great 4.0L V8. 4:01 What is this car??? Never heard about that. Iam curious comparing that MR2 V6 to Polish Evo both are super fast!
Built for a one make series, the Lamera Cup is an original sillhouette racing car that uses a spaceframe chassis, 5 Cylinder Turbo engine from the Focus Mk2 RS (Volvo origin) in rear-mid mounted position. And yeah, some more bits from the Focus RS body :P
Ok, I had never heard of a car brand called Lamera Cup but after a quick search I found out why. I wonder how Gilles' team got the permission to race outside of the cup, moreover in a hillclimb, of all competitions. I also had never heard of a Ford 5-cylinder engine but after a quick search I found out why: because it's a freaking repurposed Volvo R engine!
