it’s funny how most romance webtoons (not including canvas) say they’re romance but end up being more action, thriller, or horror -Days Of Hana -Castle Swimmer -Freaking Romance (a bit) E T C . . .
People just forget to like ToG’s chapters because the story is too captivating. Chapters where top comments actually ask to like the chapter get more than 100K likes.
Yeah, especially now since he's on a break you can see all of the chapters he released last have 99,999+ on them from people re reading to refresh and remembering to like, but if you go more towards the middle chapters or some in the very beginning they are lower in likes only because people forget because there are so many chapters. I'm also guilty of forgetting lol
Yeah, you actually forget to like the chapters since the story is really that good. When you're reading you just wanna scroll down to see the next chapter
True Beauty summed up: a girl wearing a mask who's occasionally drunk being chased by two guys who don't know that their soul mate is actually each other but not that girl
I thought true beauty was gonna be like a story were the main character finds out physical beauty doesn't matter but it doesn't seem to be advancing from the just straight up ridiculous "drama" and her worrying that she's not pretty all the time
i guessed it wouldn't keep up the message about your inner beauty being beautiful when the mc put make up on someone else and it cured their self esteem issues
kind of weird seeing all of the popular webtoons go from action-oriented to romance-oriented. sometimes i forget webtoon's origins. also the happiness i felt when i saw hooky at the top for a while was immeasurable. didnt know it was so popular back then
I found Hooky during that reading contest to get coins (I didn't get it, but at least I found a good story). It was together with Love Advice from the Great Duke of Hell and Unlucky is as Lucky Does, which are both comedy and all of these Webtoons are lit and a great balance of story and comedy/romance.
Truuuee. I always thought it was pretty underrated, but I'm really happy it got the recognition it deserved. A lot of these, whether they were there for a while or just a glimpse, were definitely cream of the crop stories.
Rip Windbreaker is seriously so underrated...It has everything. Fleshed out characters, romance, action, drama, and comedy as well. If yall never heard of it, please give it a read. It is seriously so good.
Like seriously.. I didn't expect to like it since im not into sports specially cycling but it's one of the best stories I've ever read in my entire life and im not even exaggerating. The characters are so well written. They all have different purpose, role, personality, backstory and the romance is not forced. the character development of every character is just chefs kiss. You won't get lost in the plot because it's so detailed. Nothing is bland and boring in this webtoon. The art is great in s2 and s3. So many good looking characters (so many to simp for lol 💀). It's absolutely the best and unfortunately underrated. Highly recommend!!
i think its popularity is slowly rising ever since the author went viral for being 'hot' on tiktok. i think it's pretty underrated because it gets compared to lookism alot and the general public aren't really interested in reading abt sports let alone abt biking, another reason could be that it's not available in some regions even on the app
Right now he didnt break his neck he stated in a blog that his wrist got worse again and hes practicing drawing with his left hand now and showed a sketch he made with it recently.
@@sapphiredoesthings5230 yeah that was long ago now its only his wrist now and also forgot to mention he said tog will be returning in 6 months since he posted this January.
He had some neck pain, he didn't break it, it was more like an inflammation. And now he has wrists problems but hopefully he will recover well so we can get back in the summer
I’m honestly confused about how many people genuinely loved GoH’s anime and then were talking about how terrible ToG’s was. It was really strange to me because I thought ToG’s anime was amazing and I was very let down by GoH’s. Just my opinion though.
@@snuckytoes8427 it was probably more so ToGs animation. Which to it's credit, did wonders with the source material. Considering much of S1 is world building and lore, it's really hard to take liberty with the direction when SIU really hadn't fully put into scope the magnitude of the tower itself. Backgrounds were pretty generic, meanwhile GoH was literally Seoul & they had mappa animating it...GoH loosely integrated a martial arts theme into it's plot, which, let's be honest... People always say an okay animated fighting anime is the best thing ever.... Til they see the lack of plot direction.
Let’s all be honest... true beauty has a basic, cliche kinda plot that has nothing awesome about it but the art is really good. As in the characters and like really HANDSOME COUGH they look real but 2D
This is how I feel about it ngl I kinda wish it had a deeper plot and slightly more realistic looking characters LOL I stopped reading awhile back but damn it is insanely popular
Seeing the rise in romance and the downfall of action and fantasy it made me realize some things. Some webtoons that were even marketed as romance are practically part of the drama genre now or other genres with romance being a sideplot or subplot. I think Webtoon realized that romance brings in a bigger audience.
Some people say unordinary is romance I am like wtf *Unordinary spoiler* The only relationship was between the main character and the main female character and that got facked pretty fast and not in a way that they will be friends again like the John (main character) was about to hospitalize or even kill Sera (main female chracter) if Blyke didnt interfere in the latest episode.
@@TaeTae-hp3kg I started reading the WEBTOON when it started and I loved it up until Suho left not because I’m team Suho but because the story hasn’t been going anywhere since then. And I don’t want to watch the drama
@@fairy.of.shampoo3118 tbh I wouldnt really recommend the drama if your a big fan of the webtoon. It just feels too different especially since some scenes that are meant to be played by another character is being played by another character.
@@fairy.of.shampoo3118 same I dont want to watch the drama bcs the webtoon version already broke my heart, even I know they change some plot but still my heart is bleeding (╥_╥)
About a year ago, maybe almost 2, i LOVED LOOKISM sooo much, then i left webtoon for a while idk why. When i came back, there were so many lookism episodes and i remember how crazy it had gotten and i decided that I wasnt gonna be able to read it all over again. I truly do wonder when and how it will end though..
Lookism is so gooddd there's no extra characters everyone gets their own arc & every arc is a chef kiss you'll end up loving all of them esp Tabasco & Jake ( mine is Sinu) . Not gonna lie I even won my sister in our fight with those moves I learned from Logan. So stan gang culture stan Lookism
Honestly I find the the amount of characters in the Lookism is overwhelming. It’s fine when there a lot of characters but we don’t ever get rid of old characters before getting new ones. This makes it hard for me to keep track who is who to whom and who’s has which backstory. I still love the WEBTOON I just find it hard to keep up with it I often need to read the same episode a couple times because I’m confused who is who.
It could have been great if women were not personified to be weak and being under constant eyes of their boyfriends or hursbands..so that they could be protected from miseries and fouls...that zach and mira too irritates me a lot...if he care that much about mira then shouldn't he seek to taught her martial arts or anything like that to protect herself...some characters like crystal..and the female teacher of that golden coloured hair dude(I forgot his precious name)...and the girl in vascos gang...those were some tough ones who had been only because they learnt to do self defence...so I mean if girls will be personified better in it then it will be better!
@@maesyap5816 im one of those peoples lol, but one time i look into comments and someone comment about how likes important to the author i like all tog chapter since then
Let me say something controversial yet brave, True Beaty is not even good in romance standards and is going no where. It’s only a product of the very heavy marketing the app has put on the story because of the art and the k-pop fan culture bait.
@@anpangirl7630 a 100%, I’m really curious how the k drama is supposed to have a closed ending tho, since the webtoon is probably going to keep dragging the plot until the end of times lol.
@@0rihimeInoe they just gonna follow the typical k drama tradition, the first lead and female lead end up together and happily ever after, just like it happens in all the kdrama
As storytelling goes, Webtoons are very unstructured and rambling. I think the paid for side of the content is what makes the stories go nowhere. The longer the story goes on, the author continues to get paid. Most of the cliffhangers fall flat by the next episode. The drama is awful and has been changed a lot from the webtoon. The concept of TB is sn easy sell to insecure teens who relate to Jugyeong and those who already love Kdrama romance. I couldn't watch the drama after one ep. It was not subtle at all in its portrayal of the characters or story.
I think it’s reasonably good tbh, but it’s definitely not the best plotted out or characterised thing I’ve ever read on webtoon by far. Also there have been a lot of interesting opportunities especially near the beginning to delve into more serious topics on bullying, self image, the dark side of kpop culture and they just didn’t go into it which I think was a bit of a wasted opportunity (perhaps this was lost as the webtoon dragged on and focussed more on the romance side of things? Though it may be getting on track again with female lead being single again now we’ll see). I find it ok as a casual read and enjoy thing though so I can see why so many people like reading it.
Series like bastard, sweet home, tog, god of high school actually dominated the rankings for the korean version of webtoon. One of the upcoming series on the korean website is omniscient readers viewpoint which is also action. It’s weird how different the rankings for the English webtoon are and that it’s way more romance oriented
When I say Annarasumanara is the best webtoon ever created. I'm not lying. Everything in that comic is PURE ART. EVERYTHING. You'll not regret reading it.
This just shows how webtoon changed from people liking webtoons in the non-romance genre to the romance genre. It's kinda sad to see that because a lot of the webtoons not centered around romance are really good. Don't get me wrong: I also love all the romance webtoons but I think there are a lot of other non-romance webtoons who deserve a lot better. P.s. I like a lot of different genres of webtoons but Tower of God still remains my favorite of all time. I'm glad that even after all these years it still stands amongst the top 5. Props to SIU for still having this series be so popular (and interesting) even until now.
Thank you for stating this. I started reading Webtoons way back then when Bastard was #1. I've since pretty much dropped the platform from the oversaturation of romance stories.
@@turdnugget Romance webtoons are not bad by any means but I just think that a lot of the non-romance genre webtoons are being overshadowed by the romance genre and are not getting the recognition they deserve. A lot of the other webtoons I read (in my opinion) are a lot better than some romance stories and it's kinda sad that they are not that high up in the rankings.
I watched this four days ago and here I am, sleep deprived, after binging 341 chapters of Lookism and 61 chapters of Viral Hit. Taejoon Park is a fucking mastermind! I’ve NEVER felt so hooked while reading a story before?? The characters are all so well written and there’s so much tension that I literally couldn’t tear my eyes away, I just kept wanting to read more and more!!!!
While me, I stop reading it the moment suho came back, because I kinda predicted what will come and I hate to witness, even if it's just webtoon or wattpad that breaks another person for someone else, it's never really is my jam, I just end up, hating the character hahahaha.
Webtoon Originals that are good so far: Eleceed, tog, odd girl out, omniscient reader, remarried empress, windbreaker, to love your enemy, the first night with the duke, the boxer, unholy blood, nice to meet you, see you in my 19th life, no scope, crown of feathers, swimming lessons for a mermaid, weak hero, the advanced player of the tutorial tower, sweet home Edit: ahh there r so many new good ones coming out; the green light ones and other canvas ones that are being moved to originals
For real, it made me sad seeing my favorites, _Bastard_ and _Sweet Home_ going off the charts lol. And it seriously pains me seeing _Lookism_ keep getting stuck at like around 9th place. Anyway I love _Lookism_ so much 😭♥ it's so well written. and the actions scenes are just,,, perfect . The romance comics literally just slammed through everyone and made its way to the top so suddenly. Everyone on WebToon seems to really like romance the best lol
Freaking romance ended too. That was beautiful to see as well. My dear cold blooded king has gone away too. That was beautiful to see at the end. All of which were happy endings, so dont get too upset.
Everything by Taejun Park is amazing. I especially liked Viral Hit. As someone who does MMA, I like seeing the unexpected ways Hobin defeats his opponents and the different ways he trains to go against people who specialize in a single martial art. My Life as a Loser is also pretty underrated, and I am excited to see if he starts a new series and how he will continue his current projects.
I love how 'bastard' came up out of nowhere and took the no.1 spot and stayed there for a while. Makes me feel good considering how good that storyline was
Cursed Princess Club - Has Comedy - Has Romance - Heartwarming - Provides Lessons - Character development is 👏 - Plot - Music every chapter - Continuation of Plot - Emotional moments - You can see redemption and love, if characters act like bitches they have their story and redeem themselves, at first the whole fandom hated that character (Frederick) now I am loving him cuz he a wholesome bean.
I was really happy to see it in 11th place! It also has - The best music on Webtoon - Art development- it gets so good! - Depth Seriously, if any of you are fans of ATLA you need to read this, and vice versa

Tower of God dominating even after all these years, and that sudden entrance of Omniscient Reader's Viewpoint at 6:27 😆 highly recommend even though it's a fairly new comic
Yeah the novel is OP bro. Such a rollercoaster journey. Too bad it have to change translator for eng translation so i need along time to adjust and enjoy it again.... But I can't get enough of it, too addictive even it make me cry alot
Odd girl out deserves more recognition than true beauty. True beauty on the Korean version has comments all saying that the author should put more plotlines instead of who will she choose? Odd girl out has WAY more originality and plus the art style is really pretty.
okay…here me out. Eleceed is actually one of the best webtoons i’ve ever read. it has the perfect mix between fantasy, action, comedy, and even a bit of romance. it also had some of the best character development i’ve seen. Not to mention the amazing art
i’ve read true beauty, but i couldn’t finish it because of how bland the main characters are and how boring the plot is. BUT i will have to say, that the art for the webtoon is one of the best that i have seen, and that was the only thing driving me to keep reading.
@@ariadnafriski_ Yeah, and as soon as they made a movie out of it I know I made the right decision to stop reading after 30 or so episodes. Once they started that I know everything from there was gonna be simply for marketing purposes. And yes, the characters are bland. The stereotypical hate to love guy pissed me off, and I don’t have to read it to know he’s gonna be the one she picks.
Snailord's (artist of freaking romance) art style is wayyyyy more appealing to me personally.... seriously I don't understand the hype about true beauty....at this point the author is just dragging the storyline for 💸💸
Oof yeah especially with that one webcomic called “Midnight poppy land” I read it...and it’s pretty much a wattpad fanfic novel but turned into a webtoon and I kinda fear that they’ll be more of those
OMG IF YOU CHECKED WATTPAD THIS MONTH, there was ads everywhere on Wattpad how this year sponsorship was Webtoons. So yeh Webtoons was sponsoring Wattpad these last few months😂😂😂 Edit: the last few months of 2020😂
Isn't that a bit too harsh? A lot (if not most) of the popular romance comics on Webtoon are actually pretty good tho. Like, you don't really have to search for long before you find a romance comic you'll like or at the very least find decent (not saying all of them are good tho. I personally find True Beauty, Unloveable Replacement, and a few others to be really bad lol) but there's so much more good content there than fucking _Wattpad._ That site is a fucking irredeemable dumpster fire. It'll take you DAYS to find gold in all that rubbish. None of the most popular romance stories are good either. Not a SINGLE one periodt
Although I usually like rom-coms or romance webtoon, my favorite is Windbreaker. I love that shit with all my heart. It has a mix of everything, and was the only webtoon to actually make me tear up. The art has gotten so much better now too
I kinda started reading it like a month ago and I can see what’s you mean, I feel like we are near the end, like she’s finally finding herself so hopefully it doesn’t get too weak by then
I’m with you on that one. I’ve been following it since the start and well, it’s gotten to like a point where I’m just reading cause I’ve been read it for this long.
Maybe it's bc drama stresses me out and bc I've read so much but at some point it did get kinda generic and went on the same direction as other drama romance webtoons (adding drama just to keep it going, it gets tiring) so I dropped it.
I've never liked True Beauty, it's too superficial for me - the characters (especially the MC) are all about their appearance, makeup, expensive clothes, gifts etc. Besides nice art it doesn't have much to offer
Jugyeong (the main character) has had no character development since high school. She’s completely reliant on a romantic relationship for her happiness, she’s essentially a no-lifer for her own relationship with Seojun. I actually feel like she’s regressed a bit, at least in high school she had a goal, a dream (to git gud with makeup) but now this dream is very nearly nonexistent.
It was so fast! I have my home-page set to most popular and had memorized the places of everything- then so many series ended and so many new ones replaced them or gained more popularity. It was like one day and then "WoAh, that's new" :O
It's a shame tho, Siren's Lament is actually really good and deserved way more attention and praise than it got. As for Lumine, it was good at first but I think we can all agree that the author seemed to have kinda lost their interest in the comic halfway through. Could definitely see why it started flopping
Personally some webtoons that I think are underrated is Purple Hyacinth, Windbreaker, The Boxer, Parallel City, Weak Hero, In the Bleak Mid Winter, Omniscient Reader and Red King. Don’t get me wrong I don’t mind romance but I feel like all the romance webtoons are dominating the platform. I love yoo is a good webtoon as it seems like romance I first but there’s more heavy theme that are shown EDIT YEAR LATER yeah yeah I know some of them are popular now and are not underrated, I just didn’t seem them talked about it as much or wasn’t active on platforms that did. Like omniscient reader, that’s very popular now. So my bad ig. Here’s new ones that I saw in thread but also read, Eleceed, (didn’t see these 2) The Build Up and Delusion.
Thank you so muchh for commenting In the Bleak Mid Winter! I've finished season one and yes, waiting for season 2! Gonna read the Red King then Windbreaker next :3
uhh about omniscient reader its up there with solo leveling and the beginning after the end for most popular manhwa currently so dont worry about it being underrated lmao
Purple hyacinth and omniscient reader deserve much better,,, (plus read Tower of God if you haven't already there's a reason it's been on the list for so long)
THANK YOU SOMEONE WHO APRRECIATED PURPLE HYACINTH AND ORV (throws Your Throne to the mix) Seriously, those two have immaculate art and plot, too bad that webtoon is mostly dominated by romance these days.

This was my experience with (off the top off my head) flow, bastard, snailogy, hellper, undeadEd, aura from another planet, girls of the wilds, and more. I stopped checking webtoons daily quite some time ago and when i came back i was surprised how much more aggressive they were to make money and monetize the platform as a whole. So many more popups, events, promotions, some webtoons even have 7 or more episodes for the fast pass. I get that they're trying to better support their creators, but locking away finished series behind daily passes and coins just seemed like a huge dick move.
