loved Ninja, Golvelius, Cloud Master, Lord of the Sword, Miracle Warriors, Mystic Warrior, Zillion, Wonder Boy and others. So many great Master System games.
You nailed so many great games in your list! Zillion, miracle Warriors.... those were some of my faves too! Golvelius seemed to have exceptional graphics to me. It stood out. But it was hard for me to master.
I loved Spellcaster, it is a very unique experience. However, I will say that the password system was just so much crap. I remember it as being thirty characters long, some of them not being true letters or numbers. I recommend if you're going to be playing the cartridge, to forget writing down those passwords and use your phone to take a clear snapshot of the passwords.
personally, Spellcaster has a shot as being the best game on the SNES. it combines RPG and action perfectly, the story is very interesting, the graphics and music awesome
Well done and I appreciate the great picture quality and the FM sound tracks! Even though I am here in the States, I too had a Master System instead of a NES and I LOVED IT! The hardware was amazing and I even had Sega Scope 3D and back in the day games like Maze Hunter 3D and Missile Defence 3D blew my mind! I am glad people are now starting to appreciate the Master System more as a retro console. You gave me more games to add to my list. I also really appreciated how many games that were made for both the Mega Drive/Genesis and Master Systems were actually different games rather than ports. Again, well done!
I grew up with Sega Master System as well. My best friend had a NES, so I decided to go with the almighty SMS. Wanted something different we could play while at my house, not to mention Sega appealed to me more. Instantly became a Sega fanboy. Rastan, Shinobi, Reggie Jackson Baseball, Rocky, Pro Wrestling, Evander Holyfield Boxing, Space Harrier 3D, Phantasy Star, and many more bring back great memories.
Man, my cousins and I had a Master System, and we played Phantasy Star for many, many years without beating it. We had save slots far into the game, but we were so young we didnt fully grasp what had to be done to beat it. Eventually the Master System was relocated to a family vacation house on a lake in the middle of nowhere. Every year, we would return and play our save files. We started playing this game when I was 6 years old, and I would guess it took 7 or 8 years to see the end. Most nostalgic game for me by far.
RoastMcGhost I was also too young to finish it. I remember my space ship being in one planet while I was lost in another. Had no idea how to deal with that situation. That was the end of the game for me I think.
Does anyone else hear an emphasis on final words in sentences that sound like there is more to be said but then isn't. It sounds like confusion or a spontaneously read book report. Not to knock it by any means! To be clear, I love the content and I think the material is pretty well-written.
I know what you're talking about, I think it's just his Wolverhampton accent. He also sometimes finishes sentences as if he's asking a question, with an upward inflection.
The world needed more zelda clones anyway. Once a zelda fan was done with LoZ where were they to turn for more? I wanted more LoZ for years and GAw was the only game that delivered.
I have a 1990 Master System which comes with Alex Kidd in Miracle World (which has also had its date changed from 1986 to 1990); the earlier models had Snail Maze.
Good list. Some titles I'd include: - Robocop vs The Terminator (the SMS version is surprisingly good) - Ninja Gaiden - Mortal Kombat - Secret Command - Time Soldiers - Scrambled Spirits - Double Hawk - Super Space Invaders - Quartet - Columns
Not all SMS2's had Alex Kidd built in, there was a variant with Sonic 1 built in instead. Glad to see R-Type in there, the SMS port of this was probably the best on any system. You must be the only SMS owner to have never played Sonic, it was so popular for good reason! And I had forgotten how much fun Asterix was, thanks for that.
Golden Axe Warrior is my favorite Master System game. Then the original Alex Kidd in Miracle World, the first Sonic, Castle of Illusion, Phantasy Star, Ninja Gaiden, Double Dragon, Donald Duck in the Lucky Dime Caper, Zillion and many more. It was truly a Master piece of gaming fun and made me a gamer forever.
Then I'd say we grew up no where near each other, we had 1 bus, 1 arcade machine and an oddly large amount of imitation hand held dot matrix games in our local news agents.
@@FullInstall Yeah, I can tell from your accent lol. I was born in the Midlands but grew up in Kent. It's just cos you said they weren't common in Britain.
I think Kung Fu Kid is actually supposed to be a chinese setting, cause Kung Fu is a chinese martial art. this is a really good list btw, i didn't know about most of these games and they all look pretty good.
ah you are most definitely correct! That's just me not thinking about it properly, at the time I had seen a few Bruce Lee movies which was about all I had to equate the setting to, but he is of course as you say, Chinese. and thanks :)
SEGA should do a Master System collection, just like they do with Genesis. I know MS is much less popular, but it would be a great introduction for new players.
I bought a Master System in 1987. Being an American with SMS while the rest of the country had the NES (I had both as I was 17 at the time and had a job) was frustrating as there weren't too many friends I could share the experience with. Black Belt, Quartet, Choplifter, Phantasy Star, and Shinobi were my absolute favorites. Nice vid man.
I love 13 of your 18 games. Thanks for not forgetting Psycho Fox. One of the best games ever. I would have ranked Out Run higher though. I remember going to a shop and seeing it and dreaming to have it for months. I was uncontrollable when I finally had it!!!
Loved this. The Master System 2 was my first console, when I was around 8 years old. I'm dead chuffed you included Alien 3. Easily my favourite title on the Master System.
Sadly ennemy placements are somewhat very tricky (to not say poorly thought) + the insane respawn + the bad jump plateforms... those can ruin the game.
Aliens Infestation review you say? Oh, you mean the first video I watched from you, and the reason I discovered your criminally underrated channel. Great vid(the Aliens one, Im still watching this one lol)
Got the SEGA Master system when it first came out as a kid.. the first games I got were RAMBO “ coco puffs being shot out of his rifle” Astro Warrior “came with it” and Space Harrier.. still hear “GET READY” in my head now at 43.. LOVED Ghostbusters 👻.. Thunderblade, After Burner, Shinobi “arcade game I LOVED.. in my little 📺 GOLVARIUS “game was amazing for a Zelda type game”! My absolute fav SEGA console I had was my DREAMCAST... loved Genesis.. but it didn’t wow me like my Dreamcast
Great video and a lot of really cool games on here! Though I would also add Astro Warrior and Pit Fall to this list as I would play those games non stop all of the time!
Maravilhosos tempos!
stringanime SEGA Master System is the eutopia of nostalgia idc what anyone says about Nintendo. im here in the States from Boston and I loved my Sega Master System and still Own it
Same could be said about the high quality arcade games that came out back in the 80's. If one never experienced Donkey Kong in the Arcades, and instead only played the NES port, one might prefer the off version of the NES. When I think of 8 Bit, regardless to the NES being part of the 80's, I think of Happy sounding Chip tune and bright pixelated colorful graphics, but that is because 1. I prefer that quality and 2. I played a lot of consoles and arcades back then.
It's a nostalgic thing brother, and the controller aint so bad. Although i must admit i had some issues with it some time ago (stupid D pad) And afcourse that pausebutton not being on the controller sucks ass. But Sms is still a nice system. I actually like it a bit better then the Nes, but i still think that is personal. I am not gonna argue wich one is better, cause why should i, i have both and i don't own shares in Nintendo or Sega.
I thought you were going to put Alex Kidd in miracle world in the first place, but you didn't, lol. I remember buying a master system, I was 7 years old, and Alex Kidd was the first game I played! I have to say I really freaked out playing that game. I also enjoyed playing Spider-Man vs the Kingpin and Master of Darkness ... These are the games that are missing in your list, from my humble point of view. Thanks for the video, it's a great one indeed.
Golvellius was the first game I looked up a cheat for in a gaming magazine. Oh MAN! loved Shinobi & Rampage! Hell, this video is taking me back! Damn. Really wish I had the foresight to save my console and games when I was young.
When I was a kid here in the US I always loved the SMS more than the NES.... Problem..... No one else I knew owned so game trading and 2 player games were out of the question.
BIGRAYSWRESTLINGSHOW I second your emotion lol I'm here in Boston and still love my Sega Master System!! problem is everyone around me knows nothing about great 8 bit gaming🎮🎮💯💯
Robbie RuPac Radio So very underrated. I actually choose the SMS over the NES. I didn't have an NES til 89... Anyways love your work brother. Look me up at 1wrestlingvideo if you wish. Peace friend
I was waiting for Phantasy Star to get it's Glory in your list and it did! It was my favorite game back in the day and I also replayed it several years ago on an old computer. I also remember playing Book of Y's. Haven't played it since I was little, but I remember having fun with it.
I just got a Sega Genesis 3 console which will play Master System games. Looking forward to seeing what I can find in the way of Master System games for it. I don't understand marketing R rated games to kids via toys and games either. It's weird. This Snail Maze game looks pretty neat actually. They should put it in one of Sega's collections of classic games for the Nintendo consoles. I love Alien Storm and Golden Axe games! They are my favorite Sega games of all. Even more so than the Sonic games. Maybe because I'm actually halfway good at beat em ups, but terrible at platformers. I love Asterix and Obelix too. I probably see even less about them here in the States than you did as a kid, but I got lucky and had several of their books in my local library, so I grew up loving them too. I'd love to find this Asterix game. The Wonder Boy and Alex Kid games sound weird, but you've convinced me to give them a try. There's a bit of slow down in the Gauntlet games on the Sega Genesis, maybe so on the Master System too. So, maybe the original box for it said that slowing down was a good thing. Gauntlet 4 brought my Sega Genesis emulator to its knees, convincing me to go out and get an actual Sega console and get the Genesis 3. The Gauntlet games are a close runner up to my favorite Sega game and it's been my mission to find the best home version of Gauntlet. I love the writing in this video! It's informative and funny at the same time. I like your opening of this video. Takes me back to the 'good ole days' of dial up modems and fighting with DOS to play games. It was the first challenge of the game - getting it to work on your computer, especially if you wanted to hear the sound.
I love this video for the simple reason that man said The Arcade Machine (when talking about Double Dragon) was in the local Fish & Chip shop! HA! BACK IN THE DAAAAAAAAY! All good Arcades were either in a Fish & Chip shop, Burger shop, Chinese Take-Away or Sweet shop! Loved them times!!!
Psycho Fox did get a 16-bit / Mega Drive update of sorts though - two of them: Magical Flying Hat Turbo Adventure and its reskin for the west DEcap Attack. Psycho Fox itself was a remake of NES game Kid Kool and all were made by the same team at Vic Tokai.
Best Sega Master System Games: 1- Wonder Boy 3 Dragon's Trap 2- Alex Kidd in Miracle World 3- Sonic 2 4- Donald Duck: The Lucky Dime Caper 5- Asterix 6- Alex Kidd in Shinobi World 7- Golden Axe
I don't think I ever played the master system version you know, I played through the sequel on the PC engine emulator back when the emulator scene first came around in the dial up days, cracking game.
Nice list! However I think this games are great to be in any MS list: - Alex Kidd in the Miracle World - Kenseiden - Black Belt - Sonic The Hedgehog - R.C. Gran Prix - Land of Illusion - California Games I'll try this Aladdin game, I only know the Mega Drive version and this other version looks cool.
I also gotta say, the Master System Golden Axe game was pretty solid. sure it only had one character, but it still had all the levels. Also look up Zillion. It's part metroid game, part puzzler. kind of an odd duck and an acquired taste. But I enjoyed it back in the day.
Nice/useful video! I'm about to get a SMS and certainly like most of the ones you showed. I loved Aladdin on the Genesis so I'm curious about that sms version... looks like an entirely different experience.
Although there was never a psycho fox on the Megadrive, there were two games which were virtually identical save for the graphics. The first was Magical Flying Hat Turbo Adventure (only released in Japan) and the second (and best of the lot) was Decapattack.
One of the very few occasions that i can say i was happy to live in Brazil. This is the country where Master System truly dominated, to the point where units are STILL made to this day, as well and hundreds of exclusive titles. Also, it made getting all 3 models very easy for me. :D
The master system has two faces. The pre 90s sega, with its games also being released in the States and the post Europe & Brazil modern era. There are gems to be had from both periods and many of my American pals here, are missing so many essentials never released here in the US..
I always thought it bizarre that the Master System had such a big fan base in Brazil apposed to the US, are there any titles that stand out for you as not being released over your way? I can't say I have a huge knowledge base of what was released where.
I have 2 master system consoles. One has Snails built in the other has Missle Defense 3D. Loved the 3d glasses, mine still work, very hard to find a working pair.
Some other games at least deserve a mention: Kenseiden, Rastan, Spellcaster, Sonic The Hedgehog, Rambo First Blood / Secret Commando, Zaxxon 3D, Rocky, Space Harrier, Ninja. Master System raised the bar in gaming and was a great console.
I really don't remember the master system being more popular then the nes in the UK, the master system my fav and I got ms 1 n 2 but when I was younger in late 80s n early 90s i only remember a hand full of people having it n everyone else having a nes or mega drive , but saying that I'm in Essex and yeah lol
dang... the bg scrolling effect (11:19 - 11:21) in aladin is really close to the tricks they used in toy story and clockwork knights. merp, and wow... spy vs spy made your list? so simple, but i loved that game so much as a kid... mad magazine was edgy af when i was young, so i'd probably have bought any game with their branding. ...phantasy star... YESSSSS!!! and apparently i need to play alex kidd in shinobi world. =P off the topic... you mentioned liking games that make the character seems shrunken? world of padman is a cool pc game based on quake 3's engine that's really fun, free to play, and the level design is extremely good... =D great video btw, really liked it. =P
