She did resurface in the public eye a bit in the early 2000s because she was arrested for shoplifting and I remember tons of people saying that's all she was going to be known for. So yes, she did turn it all around with her role in stranger things!
RDJ is a perfect example of how people who suffer with addiction shouldn't be abandoned by society. Just because you hit rock bottom doesn't mean you should stay there ❤
@@CaptainWiggy naw drugs is what happen not life. If that's the case then I would have become a drug addict by now but I'm smarter than that cause I don't use life as an excuse to become a horrible drug addicted person. However I'm glad at least one drug addic was able to actually pull his life together
Depp killed that role so completely that Jack wordless intro is still considered among the top 5 of epic character intros ever. Just standing up there atop the sail with the wind blowing and looking simply epic for the sake of epic.
… all while his tiny ship is quickly sinking into the ocean, and quite literally bringing him back to earth as he reaches a dock not a second too soon 😂
Adam Sandler's career was never in need of saving. He does shitty comedies, but that's what he does. It brings him the money. Uncut Gems just served to remind everyone that he's got dramatic chops.
Hahaha yeah it “saved his career” as though he isn’t still one of the highest paid people in Hollywood. Probably got him more respect tho because it was a great performance .
Jim Carry has had a massive career.. conveniently forgetting "the eternal sunshine of the spotless mind" and , "The Truman show" and "man on the moon". Jim Carrey didn't go anywhere

Eternal sunshine of the spotless mind is such an overrated pile of garbage. Truman show is a masterpiece though. Don't forget Bruce Almighty. For what it was, it was pretty great. And Yes Man. Two very fun and enjoyable movies, not masterpieces like Truman Show but very good.
Yep, not everyone can transition from tv to film. Especially if their first attempts are in films which flop hard and or get railed by critics - like George Clooney and those sexy bat nipples lol.
Keanu Reeves is my personal favorite turnaround. He starred in so many great action movies, but was always trashed for his acting. Sure enough, he seems like he has a hard time stepping into roles. But when he for some reason was picked up for playing John Wick, everything just clicked. He could finally do the character the way he wanted and seeing an actor get into the role like he did with John Wick is movie magic.
@@christofferrasmussen6533 You're right. I def didn't watch Fear and Loathing, Donnie Brasco, Blow, From Hell, Benny & Joon or Gilbert Grape before I watched Pirates. I'm hoping my sarcasm is thick enough.
Damn straight. He's a weird unit, no question, but to parade that little snippet of an interview to have it appear as if he's a guy in the midst of a nervous breakdown rather than someone with an unwillingness just to put a sickening 'everything is awesome; smiley face' mask on for the sake of keeping up appearances.. Wish I could better express what I'm trying to get at, but the obligation to make nice and pretend all's well (or interesting/worthwhile) is just poisonous. And on a side note, giving Adam Sandler his due credit in mentioning his dramatic turns as an actor and NOT mention Eternal Sunshine, Man on the Moon, Truman Show is criminal
I don't think it was disrespectful because if you look at the movies he made before, they were not the Jim we all know and love... This movie was his first in a while that was more familiar to the people and successful
@SharkTank old enough to know when Jim started out and to see the crud he went thru and his mental breakdown...seeing this roll actually was nice. Like he was getting back to his old self. Why do you ask ?
When they got to number one I was screaming RDJ in my head. I grew up reading Iron Man comics and when I saw they cast him as Iron Man I was not happy. After seeing him as Tony Stark I can only quote good ol Stan Lee "This guy was born to play Tony Stark".
@@seanscott The God Damn pen is RrrrrrrBLUUUE!!! I LOVED Liar Liar, and although I was like 12 when it came out, I loved it then, and every time I watch it again, I love it more. Also I still run while I yell "I'm Jose Conseco" when I go to airports...EVERYTIME
You’d think if the first few sequels didn’t do well back when Keanu was really fucking popular they wouldn’t try to make another even when his popularity surges again
@@personofinterest4791 The sequels did well, they just weren't received well. People saw them, the convoluted writing in the second and then the fact that the third was basically a Michael Bay movie is what killed the series off.
He was already big star in 90's and 2000's He just made some bad choices but came with solid performance in johnWick where he gave the script to two stunt coordinator to direct and single handedly made iconic franchise
Maybe because their "careers" do need to be saved? After the Matrix franchise, Keanu Reeves didn't starred or had a major role in any blockbusters or box-office hit films. Even if he did starred in any box-office hits, he probably only play a small and forgettable supporting character. John Wick gave him the chance to be a great action film star back. For Jim Carrey, I don't know much about his career. But I'm sure that his film profile isn't good in the 2010s. Sonic and the Hedgehog made the public become interested back in his comedic talent. While for Liam Neeson, he slowed down a little bit after his wife's death. He voiced Aslan in The Chronicles of Narnia but that's only his voice. Taken was his first box-office hit as a leading man for I don't know, more than 10 years?
@@norshimamdtaib8432 Jim carrey is goddamn 59 years old, his career has been amazing. He has been in the movie business for decades. Just because he hasn't been very active the last few years (Which is understandable since he is nearly 60 YEARS OLD) does not mean he has to save his career. His career was always safe, it was never in danger. He does not need to be in this list.
@@norshimamdtaib8432 Well.. :) nice "view" on somebody career.. Do you consider, that some "careers" dont need to be saved, bcs people choose their careers to be that way? I am talking specially about Keanu Reeves.
I like Sonic. Im already 33 but it gives me sense of being a child again when I watched and cant wait to see the sequel. Jim Carrie did great as a villain.
Robert Downey Jr. Is the ultimate redemption, period. Although I'll have to take you all way back to a time of the most legendary woman in the game, in fact I'd personally say tops Robert redemption, Katharine Hepburn. A personal favourite of mine I have to mention too which I was disappointed it didn't get mentioned, Joaquin Phoenix.
I like that you put Robert Downy Jr. as number one. He has always been one of my favourite actors and he's really turned his life around and I couldn't picture another actor playing IronMan.
RDJ’s career wasn’t saved by a movie role. It was saved by him getting off drugs. The same with many others. That and alcoholism are the real career killers, since no studio will touch you.
@@Geezer-yf8hv yes, but someone had to take a risk & hire him. Without that role he wouldn't have been offered or considered for the other roles like Tropic Thunder.
Kristen Stewart and Robert Pattinson are the best examples of talent covered by a mediocre teen drama, Stewart is huge in Spencer (I truly believe she deserves the Oscar) and Pattinson is astonishing in all the movies he has done in the past years (I’m sure he will be one of the best Batman of the history) ✌🏼

If you see the movie extra scenes Ben Stiller has Jack Black and RDJ wearing masks to fight for something of sorts Jack in a Kung-Ku Panda mask and RDJ as IronMan.
Honestly, Chris Evans has portrayed better roles than Cap. No offence to Cap, he is awesome, but his performances in Snowpiercer and then in Knives Our are SPECTACULAR.
Kristen was forced on such shallow parts, that's the problem. She is incredibly intelligent. She was absolutely incredible in the Panic Room and her young-teen projects.
This list makes no sense. No one on this list had ‘a dying career’ before these movies (except maybe RDJ), and if you’re gonna call it anything, you could maybe call it a surge or a boost in popularity for these actors. Or they just did a particularly good job, and they hadn’t for a few years.
Robert Pattinson is incredible actor. Shame his first movie was Twilight. People trolled and hated him just because they hated those movies. Can't wait to see him as Batman.
@@KeshavaKrishnan thats where I believe he's a bad pick. Nobody has seemed to manage to pull off both personas in my opinion. The way he acted in tenet seemed very camp and sort of withered if that makes sense. I saw that as Bruce when in the trailer and personally I don't think it will work. I'm more intrigued at the more brutal look of the film than anything else. At the end of the day he makes mucho more money than me so all I really feel I'm allowed to have as a customer is an opinion whether positive or negative
You’re right. He belongs on a different list for something bigger than movies... real human inspirational stories about overcoming adversity. All the others are just about people who had simply been making bad choices of what movies to make before that point... not nearly the same thing!
Yeah 11 years of Iron Man... And then he does DOLITTLE which is awful and a box office flop one year after Endgame. Seems like his career may fall down again so we can hope for Sherlock Holmes 3 to help.
@@jacobplourde2388 Yeah a lot of people do flops...angelina jolie , brad pitt, tom cruise , Scarlett Johannson .. everybody has flops but still they are the biggest stars in the world . Same goes for rdj
Couldn't have made a better #1 choice. Downey most certainly was my favorite actor growing up, and is is considerably one of my all time favorites. Especially thanks to Iron Man.
I loved Evans in Knives Out- such a huge jump from the character he's played for a decade, and actually very well done. It's like Honest Trailers said about his character in KO, "That IS America's Asshole."
One recent example: Ke Huy Quan as Waymond Wang in Everything Everywhere All At Once. Before that, he'd only made two major films: Indiana Jones and the Temple of Doom and The Goonies. He'd only acted on and off since then, then he did Everything Everywhere All At Once. And it not only gave him his third big hit after being in retirement for so long, but he's also one of the best parts of that movie. So let's just say he's not just the "Data/Short Round Guy" anymore.
I cringe every time someone pronounces it this way, way back when "Epic Movie" came out I thought they were pronouncing it that way in the song as a joke. I was wrong, people say it this way 😂😭
I can say most people say it this way. But you should know that there is a big difference in british and american pronounciation. She speaks american english.
I'd argue against the placement of Kristen Stewart on this list. I had no idea she was still a thing after _Twilight_ , and I can't be the only one who feels that way. Edit: I just saw Spencer, never mind.
@@anthonybrown4724 But they did show some of his popular works when mentioning his saving grace. I just wish that his Scott Pilgrim performance was one of them

@@ltrain7715 lol are you serious about Sherlock? Those are phenomenal and well liked movies. IM and Capt America are the only things worth watching in the MCU and certainly not those TERRIBLE IW movies that have nothing to do with the comics.
In my opinion, "kiss kiss bang bang" was the one that saved Downey's career. That movie opened him the door to iron man. There was an interview somewhere where he absolutely said that too.
The title feels like a big mislead here. Like a lot of these actors were comfortably choosy and taking roles whenever they wanted them and not on a need basis. "Saved" seems like a strong word
I agree. But what is a better title? A majority of these actors did make a lot of money. But most of their films are cheesy romantic comedies or forgettable action films that do not really resonate well with critics and audiences. The so-called "career-saving performance" did save their career by convincing film critics and some audience that they can give a good performance or starring in a good film.
Definitely Anthony Hopkins. He was pretty much taken for granted for most of career, without anything noted as a genuine hit until The Silence Of the Lambs. He's since then made many more films, this is the one folks remember him for, as the ferocious, urbane serial killer, Dr. Hannibal Lector. Still gets great roles, too.

Man, and don’t forget all the horrendous things that were done TO and IN Will Ferrell’s Prius! 😂😂 And, “There goes my hero!” Prior to The Rock and Sam Jackson splatting on the pavement! “There wasn’t even an awning!”
Liam Neeson was an action star before Taken - he was Darkman and Rob Roy, he was in Gangs of New York, besides the films that you did mention. He's a big guy who is often cast in action roles for his physical presence. But he's versatile enough to handle drama and romantic comedy. His star has never really waned.
He also appeared in "l "Firstborn", even before that, but was only billed as "Robert Downey", before his father's directing career became more well-known. Downey, Jr. also starred in the biopic "Chaplin" & won a collective SAG award as part of the ensemble cast of the unforgettable "Short Cuts", which won some Independent Spirit Awards, too.
How about Lesley Neilson for "Airplane!"? When WatchMojo presented Downey for the #1 spot they asked, "could it ever have been anyone else?". I answered, "hell yes." Neilson not only revived his career. He did it by changing his style. He had been a star in dramatic roles. He showed in Airplane! A brilliant comedic touch
@@dotaplayer6768 It is not my cup of tea in comedies... I am a little "sophisticated"... but, anyway, I like Sandler as a person and a comedian... just dont like the movies.
RDJ made Kiss Kiss Bang Bang before Ironman. IMO that was his comeback role. I seem to recall hearing that Favreau picked him for the role because of that part. I'll try to source that, not 100%.
I agree, in a way for a time you could almost put Val Kilmer in that category too because of that movie... but he also wasted the opportunity unlike Robert.
KKBB is a cult favorite, but Ironman was MADE for RDJ. Few actors have better fitting roles than that. Like De Niro/Pesci as a mob gangster, or Hopkins as Lecter.
Martin Scorsese - Raging Bull Clint Eastwood - Mystic River Peter Farrelly - Green Book Ridley Scott - Gladiator M. Night Schyamalan - The Visit/Split Kathryn Bigelow - The Hurt Locker
Adam Sandler has been phoning it in for the past decade. Then uncut gems comes out... I didn't know what to expect. I couldn't stop thinking about that movie for days after I saw it. So good.
Kristen Stewart...really? Aside from the fact that she can’t emote for crap, you justify it with the horrible flop of “Charlie’s angels” and call it a blockbuster lol
Gotta say I loved Birdman, also Michael Keaton was scary playing Vulture as a cut throat dad who will do anything to provide the best for his family. When he confronted Peter in the car I somehow felt the fear as well.
Downey Jr. Got 100 MILLION for the last two Avengers Films. To put this into perspective: This is more than a third of what was spent on actors total, and there were so many.
Not true. Chris Hemsworth got 75 million, Even Paul Rudd got 40 million All original avengers got 50 to 30 million. It is mostly second-generation Avengers that got less pay
