Episode Contributors:
Aaron Le Fay is a 22-year-old costume designer, lover of fashion, cosplayer, child of the theater and all other forms and talents, and a master of the thread and needle. He has a bachelor’s degree in Costume Design and a minor degree in World History. Aaron has worked on such films as both an apprentice and shadow for two of the Hunger Games movies, Huntsman Winter Wars and a few others. He has also worked on television shows such as The Vampire Dairies, The Originals and Teen Wolf. He currently lives in the State of South Carolina where he’s gainfully employed making custom costumes, alterations and tailoring.
Tatiana Melendez is a 25-year-old supreme goddess from Puerto Rico. She recently received her bachelor’s degree in Drama from the University of Puerto Rico Rio Piedras Campus, graduating Magna Cum Laude. She’s currently preparing her portfolio for her master's degree applications in musical theatre or acting to N.Y. and England. Tatiana has been singing since the age of 6, and in fact has performed in Mexico and England. Anything that pertains to theatre is her passion, particularly musical theatre, acting, singing, costume designing and a bit of dancing. She’s also getting into theatrical makeup (for Halloween) and hair styling, especially braiding. She’s an eternal fangirl and shipper, and proud of it!!!!

I have always loved Varis’ costumes with the large bell sleeves. Kind of like, “always has something up his sleeves” symbol manifest. You have to wonder what he hides in them.

I think that Varys actually kept things up his sleeves in the books. Papers, raven scrolls, who knows what else, but he was always pulled things out of his sleeves.

Wow I never realized Margery had zero Lannister influence in her wedding outfit. Which is such a big difference from Sansas wedding outfit where she was wrapped in Lannister symbols and colors.

Just to point out, Joffrey was officially a Baratheon, he didn't wear red and gold, he wore gold and brown for his wedding, maybe showing once again the loss of the Lannister's hold on him, especially that he was mostly wearing gold and red previously. It would make absolutely no sense for Margaery to wear Lannister's symbols. Anyway, Margery didn't really wear Baratheon's symbols either, except the crown whose antlers are overwhelmed with roses and thorns which is really a good metaphor of her growing influence on him.

@@slou412 joffrey suit shows the influence of others on him. His cape is red and golden (lannister influence) and his shoulder scarf is blue or green depends the amount of light (shows tyrell influence) Basically Joffrey represents the crown been divided between Tyrells and Lannisters powers. He is just a puppet in their hands. Margaery having no color or symbol of Baratheon house or Lannister house shows how strong Margaery is. She wasnt influence or have fear to be loyal to her house. Plus the cascade of roses and Thorns also shows that Margaery is dangerous besides her beauty. Olenna did made a good decision killing Joffrey. with her personality i´m guessing sooner or later Joffrey would fall of her control and would put her in a hell.

In my opinion, the best costume was the hand towel Jon Snow was wearing when he was revived. Second best would have been the just pants Jon was wearing when all the guys were getting shaved. ... I'll see myself out...

I need a worst 20 version of this too, and Rhaegar's wedding suit has to be near the top if not on it lol. Especially for anyone who read the books and knows how stylish and dashing Rhaegar was described to be (guy went to war with an all black armor decorated with his house's sigil made of rubies... died in style)

Yes, I hated Rhaegar's costume/wig as well! Although I got into a little bit of trouble with viewers when my biggest issue was the casting.

@@Costume_CO Yeah the actor they cast didn't look like a Targaryen at all. He is cute (and I got into fights with people whose argument was that he's "too ugly" to play Rhaegar because calling people ugly is just gross) but in a way that looks more Baratheon or Tully than Targaryen. The Targs are known for really chiseled bone structure and lithe physique, the actor was cute in a more masculine and buff way.

@@ashlabelle yea! His features were more squared and blunted off, and not in a bad way! Just in a way that didn't fit with the Targaryens we've seen. Dany and Viserys were both a great combination of sharp lines and elegant curves, completely at odds with the Rhaegar we were given. If we'd got to see Aerys and Rhaella more, maybe it would make sense more, but as it is there's just nothing to bridge the gap, you know?

I feel like one of the Stark Lord cloaks with the giant wolf pelt collars should have been on this list. I particularly like Jon's versions of this look. Sure, it isn't anywhere near as pretty as the Southern costumes, but it lends a gravitas to the characters. Those wolf pelt collars always make the characters wearing them look more impressive, badass, and authoritative.

@@Lucares In many ancient cultures it was believed that wearing a part of an animal, or consuming that animal, gave you the powers/spirit of the animal. The Starks are an incredibly ancient family and it is likely that some of their customs date back thousands of years. Even if the Starks don't really know why those customs exist anymore, they still adhere to them. Within the Game of Thrones universe, it is also very common for people to wear their family crests in some way, usually embroidery or armor details. The North is freezing cold and nowhere near as wealthy as the southern lands, so they opt for more practical ways to show off their family connections. A wolf pelt shows you are an important Stark, but also serves the practical purpose of keeping you warm.

In general I love Tyvin´s costumes and Littlefinger´s costumes the most. Though the colors are mostly muted they don´t lack so many intricate details - that´s the best combination for me. Not to get bombarded with lavish and screaming colors but let the eyes search for the details that are perfect.

Yeah sad thing is, I think when Joffrey died, he really could have taken a turn for the better. Manipulated by Margaery, he could have been toned down a little and at least he would have acted against the High Sparrow, contrary to Tommen. And I mean, according to this list, Joffrey was the most stylish man in Westeros!

I'm so happy with how this turned out! While it wasn't as difficult to put together as the women's list (still stings), it was still quite a bit of work doing this list. Every time we thought we had it set, another gorgeous costume appeared that needed to be in It. But it came out great! Very satisfied! Can't wait until tomorrow's live stream, hope to see y'all there!

For me, Jorah's green tunic was perfection. I mean the outfit he wore riding escort after Dany's Dothraki wedding. It was not intricate or expensive as he was not wealthy. However it suited his character perfectly. His neck scarf looked like burlap but was a beautiful reflection of color of his hair and beard. And few characters wore a cloak with as much grace. Sometimes its not what you wear, but how well you wear it. Cersei also knew how to wear her clothes.

I think the outfit Tommen kills himself in is one of my favorite male costumes in the series. The color is one of my favorite colors period, and it works amazingly well in velvet. The necklace (that's probably not what it's called) is just so beautiful too. It's so simple but really elegant.

Robb’s book Crown would have completed the look but it’s very nice, I don’t think I have noticed it before (maybe because of the dark lighting of because the horror of Red Wedding). Jofferey is actually wearing Baratheon colors (gold and black) to his wedding, he is officially still an Baratheon). The wedding cloak however was in Lannister colors.

Are these "laser cut" leather outfits actually, well, cut by lasers only? Would the designs be impossible to achieve with period techniques? Of all the anachronisms on Thrones, I'm not going to quibble on this one. I am just curious though. Could a punch and scissors do the same thing?

It appears that some of the leathers for the show are done with metal tools that are hammered.

I don't have all of the information on this, but the leathers for Tywin and Cersei are made by a company that uses this technique. I did find a leather jerkin that dates back to the Tudor period that used this very technique. You will find it on my Costumes of Tyrion video. Hope that's helpful!

a little surprised to see no jon (aegon) snow 'king in the north' costumes. i am happy to see the incredible fabric of joffrey's costumes acknowledged. also nice to see the Dornish costumes get the credit they deserve. a few bad sandsnakes costumes shouldn't distract from how awesome the other costumes on characters from that region were. i think the gold woodgrain costume on littlefinger is kind of gaudy and nouveau riche, which i think is the point, but he has others that are more subtle that i prefer, personally. thoroughly enjoyed the video as always!

Outside of the Sand Snake armor and the guards' uniform, Dorne has fabulous fashion. Don't worry, Jon will get his day in the sun. It's understandable if you like LF's more subtle costumes. Maybe I'm biased cause I always love me some sparkle, even if it looks a bit gaudy.

3:39 That time GoT did North African fashion better than Dior. Varys wore those oversized sleeves better than everyone else on the show. 17:39, yeah, and you saw houpelande and houpelande-inspired pieces on the runway for like two years afterwards. Give you one guess why. A perfect example of why you should never ever be afraid to dress actors in costumes that might seem strange. While it's one of the most useless garments ever invented, it can look amazing. 19:30 something Oberyn Martell would totally do, lol. 25:42 also grey is a Stark color. It's the costume of a groom: combining the Baratheon/Lannister gold with the Stark grey. But, he's not the groom. He's mocking Sansa by wearing her house colors when she has been forced not to, and he's mocking Tyrion by looking more like the groom than he does.

I’m probably just late to the party on this one, but I never noticed, until this video, that Theon’s outfit while giving Sansa away was almost identical to Robb’s at the Red Wedding. Talk about a mind screw from the Boltons! It may have hit me on an unconscious level, but that’s why this show is several cuts above other fantasy series by a wide margin. Usually, the costumes for fantasy shows on TV are just dreadful but so much thought goes into the GoT garb. It only enhances what Martin has put on the page in the books.

I love the way the clasps and closures are always so beautiful and often symbolic on this show... those direwolf clasps on Rob's cloak were a masterpiece... I also love that punched leather on Charles Dance, elegant but powerful, all his costumes were great. I think anything Oberyn wore was great, but that's mostly because Pedro Pascal did such an amazing job with the character, he was SO sexy... Baelish was another character that had great costumes, as much as his character was hateable he always looked great and his outfits really suited his personality on the show... sad to see so few northern costumes making the list, I know their costumes are often much simpler and not as visually stunning, but some of them are just so beautiful with the furs and leathers layered together.

Joffrey was the best dressed hands down. Ramsey was well dressed too. Why the best for the villains? Tyrion should be on this list. Varys outfit looks like a Geisha girl. What about Tommen? Tywin was well dressed. Compared to all the Lannister males Jaime was a rag muffin. Melissandre and Dany are the best dressed women. A shout out to Sansa.

Oberyns Coat and Loras jacket in Sansa´s Wedding are amazing and somehow kinda cand be useble in certain events aka weddings..Its funny that ellaria is using Oberyns Coat when she is captured and drag to the city. Shows that gender diversity that his coat can be used by a male or a woman.

Joffrey's costumes will always be the best, but I love the brown coat Littlefinger wears over his pretty brocade. It looks almost like pinstripes, so we're reminded that he's a businessman, with all the personal greed that can go along with that. It makes his shoulders look wider so he appears more powerful, and it almost gives him a bit of an hourglass figure to remind us of how much time he spends with women.

Yes, I'm glad to see Varys is included too! I'm really no expert in fashion but I honestly love how non-masculine Varys' costumes are. The large, folded sleeves really remind of kimonos and the like, and the subtle androgyny of his wardrobe makes him much more intimidating and striking in the mostly male-dominated society of Westeros.

So so many great and different men’s costumes. I love Rob but I’m honestly not overwhelmed with the Red Wedding costume. He was at war? Why would he have such a nice outfit? It seems out of place. All the others are awesome and see more accurate for the occasion 👍
