What other essential items from Dollar Tree would you add?

I like the Dollar Tree matches because I save them after they're used. I bundle the balsa wood sticks 5-10 together and dip them in parafin. They make great fire starters.

candles , these can be melted to make fire starters out of scrap cloth or cotton balls , the craft cushion filler makes a great water filter in a old plastic bottle with sand , the cheap UV lights also to kill bacteria in water , the solar lights can be charged during the day and used at night , cheers from the Australian outback

Smokes and chew are you good barter items. Anytime i run across a discount bin of them i buy 3-4 packs and freeze them. Keeps them fresh, and people will run out of them eventually

I did see those. But like I said, some items I prefer to shop for at other places because of better quality.

this would be for a situation where stores have already been cleaned out and aren't due to be restocked soon due to some kind of emergency i imagine
@audreymuzingo933
@audreymuzingo933 6 месяцев назад
@@angelnumbing Seriously? So you don't even know people who already want to barter for stuff like this? I don't understand.
@gearandgrit
@gearandgrit 6 месяцев назад
Dollar Trees, grocery stores, Costcos, Sams, etc., will all be cleaned out. But they'll be cleaned out by the folks who get there first. There won't be enough food and other essentials for everyone. If supply chains get hit expect shortages to last for weeks or months, so many latecomers will miss out.

Salt is salt and water is water but most often if you figure out what you are paying per weight of these items dollar tree is higher priced. Dollar tree is bad about having smaller packages than you buy at the bigger stores. Sometimes not but that is where you have to use your brain and not just look at the price per package. * PURELY AN EXAMPLE* I'd much rather spend $1.50 for a 200 package of XYZ product at big box store than go to dollar tree and get 100 for $1.25
@gearandgrit
@gearandgrit 6 месяцев назад
I agree with you. DT has cornered the market with that psychology. People are probably paying more for some of the items in this video, but there's the cost factor ($1.25), convenience factor and the barter factor that I take into consideration. This store is very close to my home, and I only need these items in small quantities. Bottom line, perhaps not all of these items make sense based on your personal situation and circumstances.

Just a thought .. DT Screwdrivers and their Steak Knives could also be carried in a bugout bag, duffel bag, purse, toolbox or a vehicle glove box for protection. You had some good suggestions though.

Yes, they definitely could be. Thanks for your comment.

some times you can find brand name medical items.
@gearandgrit
@gearandgrit 6 месяцев назад
Absolutely. They're typically more expensive. Batteries are an example. You can buy brand name AA batteries for $5.

can you explain why you buy recommend buying this stuff on a weekly basis, rather than stocking up all at once or periodically but less frequently? i am wondering if it is because this is getting used or disposed of or because you want to be slowly but surely building a big supply, or something else
@gearandgrit
@gearandgrit 6 месяцев назад
Great question! One word, habit. I find myself losing motivation and falling into normalcy bias. On another level, I'm really convicted to be prepared so buying things weekly (which is when I do my usual grocery shopping) means it becomes par for the course and also, that it doesn't break the bank.

I would add razors. They can help keep you clean (less ick in one place) I would also say insta glue (gorilla)and seasonal stuff like basic gloves and scarfs. Anti fungle spray and gells not just baby powder. I found a Camping style soap bar that's actually shampoo and conditioner. Keep an eye out for those too.
