More of an added evolution to an established line than a regional variant, but Annihilape is absolutely one of my favorites that's come out. I love the whole "Too angry to die" trope and they pulled it off with Primeape perfectly
I used to live in Spain as a kid. I remember the 4 hour drive between Barcelona and Madrid. Along the road we would come across many giant billboards in the shape of a big black bull. I always thought that Paldean Tauros was also inspired by this.
I think my favorite regional variant so far is Galarian Slowking. It's got an evil sorcerer vibe that I really dig and the Poison/Psychic typing is really neat.
I'm not sure off the top of my head what my favorites are, I just hope they keep making them If you don't count paradoxes and Toedscool/Wiglett lines, paldea was pretty light I think the idea still has a lot of potential
Hi,I am from Spain, also don't like fullfighting (in fact where I live bullfighting is forbidden since 2010,and a former arena is now a shopping mall in Barcelona) and probably the fire Tauros is a reference to a "festive" activity that involves attaching like a torch or some fireball thingy to a bull which is called "Toro Embolado",and the Water Tauros is a reference to the "Bous a la Mar",which takes place in an improvised arena that has the sea in one of their sides, the goal is to make the bull fall into the water
Yeahhh I didn’t want to look more into the practices for my own sanity. I read that on Bulbapedia and stopped there. Thank you for giving your perspective too!
Alohan marowak is obviously awesome. I've not seen most of the regional variants due to being a pokemon go player, rather than any of the mainline games. I really like the huisian electrode line too, they're awesome. Grass electric is really unique too, which I like. I am a fan of Muk too, it just looks awesome
Toedscruel and Wugtrio are based on the concept of convergent evolution, where unrelated animals evolve similar traits and body plans to deal with similar circumstances
I always liked how Galarian Farfetch'd has Welsh influences with the leek whereas its Shield counterpoint, Ponyta is based on the national animal, the Unicorn. On the theme of Scottish folklore, I especially noticed that the Crown Tundra is based on the Scottish Highlands and you could catch Keldeo which is based on the Kelpsie, a water horse creature often said to be found near lakes and where do you find Keldeo in the game? That's the attention to detail I admire in the games
Doesn't seem like unique Pokémon that evolve from a regional variant count in this list but there's a lot of good ones imo. Personally my variant #1 favorite of each region looks a little like this: . Alola: Exeggutor . Galar: Weezing . Hisuian: Lilligant . Paldea: Wooper
@@Paraspectre Honestly Weezing is my favorite just because I'm a sucker for facial hair on Pokémon, its such a goofy idea half the time aside from the few that are genuinely cool like Alakazam. I do really like the whole "anti-pollution" idea behind it though, made for a pretty interesting Fairy typing. Never would've thought they'd make Weezing part Fairy.
My number one is wooper. His original form was crushed to dust in my heart by swampert so the new version is amazing. So much so I almost want to play Pokemon again just for him. Other than that. Zigzagoon raichu Sandslash Vulpix are ones I also love to see
Im quite salty we stopped getting Meowth variants. I can excuse legends arceus as its set in ancient pokejapan, but it’s garbage that we didn’t get a new meowth in Paldea. USUM and SWSH had me convinced they were gonna release a new variant of the domestic cat in every region.
Maybe one day we will get that crystal onix and it become crystalix upon evolution. Rock/Fairy type and it would be a special attacker with great special defense, but is as slow or a bit faster than steelix.
I wouldn't worry too much about convergent Pokémon not being proper regional forms. It has been confirmed that Galarian Articuno, Moltres and Zapdos aren't actually related to the original Kanto birds, just named after them
I don't like when a Pokemon's _type_ is in its name, and the new variant changes the type. Snowshrew is a cute little igloo variant on Sandshrew's design, but the thing is named **SAND** Shrew (or in Japanese, just named Sand). The justifications for Galarian Articuno, Zapdos, and Moltres having the same names with unfitting types are just groan-inducing. Alolan Vulpix/Ninetales having Fairy type just sells even harder that the original version should have had either Fairy type as soon as that was introduced or the Ghost type from the start...
Back when I was a kid and gen 2 came out with the new evolutions I always pictured a sandslash evolution but it was ground steel called steelslash. I always pictured it as having 2 blades for claws and metal spikes on its back. So I've determined that gamefreak is in my head and stealing my ideas for new pokemon
I love Scream Tail, Flutter Mane, Iron Valliant, Hisuian Lilligant, Galarian Corsola and Hisuian Sliggoo. Most of these is simply because I love the original, but Sliggoo I love more than the original and made me appreciate the original more as well. I also find it interesting that the tcg describes evolutions like Cursola as galarian for example. Its probably just for the interactions with trainer cards, but its interesting to think about johtonian cursola for example.
I don’t really care much for alolan sandshrew/slash, but I’ve recently used sandshrew in the gen2 games and it’s a very solid Pokémon! I was pleasantly surprised! Easiest Whitney battle ever! I definitely see it under a different light now.
My overall top 5 off the top of my head are arcanine, corsola, ninetales, typhlosion, and exeggutor Among evos: kingambit, basculegion, obstagoon, wyrdeer, and annihilape
Alola: Most of these ones are great. And honestly, I kind of like Alolan Dugtrio and Exeggutor for how goofy they are. They'd probably still just miss the top 5 for me though. Galar: I'm pretty meh about most of these. Ponyta/Rapidash and the legendary birds are the only ones I really like. The rest are just fine, I guess. Hisui: I think that almost all of these are great. I love how Voltorb and Electrode have the apricorn thing going on, Sliggoo and Goodra are great improvements over the originals, Typhlosion is really cool, and Sneasel just looks right. But my favorites are Braviary and Zorua/Zoroark. Zorua was already very huggable, but then they went and made it extra sad. Paldea: Meh? I love the concept of paradox Pokemon, but most of them don't do much for me. But I do really like Roaring Moon and Iron Moth. And Paldean Whooper is great, but that's just because Whooper is great.
As far as Hisui goes, there is something about Dicidueye's full makeover that just does it for me. Going from a mysterious Robin Hood to a wandering ronin is just great to me.
Maybe it's just because I'm a big fan of original Raichu, but I never really liked its Alolan variant. The concept is cool for sure, but the actual design just doesn't work for me. It looks too dopey, compared to the fiercer original. Still, it's a small miracle Raichu got any new love at all from GF.
*video not vid. I do not understand the concept of wanting to shorten a word that is already short enough as it is. I find it ridiculous. But I do understand wanting to shorten long words.🤦♂
@@SuperPlacido1 imitating casual speech, it’s alright that you don’t understand the concept. It’s probably just because of “deesh” or something along those lines.
One thing you forgot to mention in your video is that Alolan Grimer has the color of Kanto Grimer's Shiny as his base color and Alola Grimer's Shiny is the color of Kanto Grimer's base color. This is a detail that always made me tripping! I like all the ones you mentioned, I just want to add Ponyta and Rapidash from Galar and Zorua and Zoroark from Hiusie! I think they are really stylish! Great video and have a great week-end!(:
I will respect your opinions even if I do not agree with a lot of them. Still Hisuian Sneasel,Thyplosion, and Alolan Marowak are some of my favorites so can't be too mad at you.
