All of these games are not hard at all and some of these I never heard of. Redo the F U C K I N G list watchmojo there are harder games out there than this S H I T list.
Fun fact about Dark Souls; if you are invaded by someone wearing a loin cloth and a massive club it is either someone who has no idea what they are doing or it is death incarnate. There is no middle ground
Agreed I just recently beat the pantheon of Hallownest and normally something like this I wouldn't do but the game is so damm good that it made me push through
Ikaruga is maybe the hardest game I’ve ever played. It seems so basic just two colors, but once you get past the second level the difficulty spikes are huge.
Damn right. It's been 4 years since playing it and it still brings a smile to my face when I remember how amazing it felt to finally beat some of the toughest bosses. Truly a one of a kind game
@@Mr.MacaronSama_Gaming FromSoft games typically are tough, but fair. They do have some bullshit mechanics here and there, but games like Ninja Gaiden are just an endurance contest. There aren’t really mechanics to master, rather button jamming and hoping you get through the encounter
Thanks for including Geometry Dash, it is too often overlooked when people talk about the hardest video games. The hardest levels in the game are probably only accessible to about 1% or less of Geometry Dash players, which makes me wonder what that percentage would be when looking at all gamers in general, and some of the achievements in Geometry Dash genuinely are among the most impressive and difficult in all of gaming history. Geometry Dash is rapidly approaching the absolute human limit in terms of difficulty.
@@high.level.noob. I mean yeah, obviously very few players can beat VSC, but it hardly seems fair to include non-rated and non full-length levels when considering the hardest games of all time. Something like Acheron is at least somewhat more official
Geometry dash literally made me scream and throw my phone the entire time. It took me years to beat the main campaign and even then I've barely scratched the surface of the games online levels.
Returnal should be on this list. The fact that you cannot save in a 10+ hour campaign so you must play through in one sitting is crazy. Plus the bosses were really tough.
Dark Souls 2 was actually the easiest and easiest to grind levels. Using that item that resets the area and increases the difficulty I kept using over and over again to fight that one Prince monster in the fire area cuz he's so slow and weak and actually very easy to defeat.
Just one Problem about DS2, and that was Soul Memory. It just creeps up on you. You could been playing Co-op with a friend and than BOOM! (soul Memory says: "Friend Who?") Suddenly you can't see each others signs. All because you or your friend earned too much Souls (either helping others or farming souls)
literally be a spellslinger. using magic in DS2 was basically easy mode in the original release that they had to nerf the damage magic did to enemies in the dlc, and then overall in the SOTFS edition
Forget that Prince monster. The best grinding in Dark Souls so is in the Memory of Jeigh. Just keep resetting the bonfire outside it and kill the Giant Lord. With the right armor and silver ring equipped you get about 500K souls in 3-4 minutes. Plus there is a bonfire ascetic when you enter the memory so you never run out.
Is no one going to talk about fear and hunger. That series really made me pull my hair out with all the micro management and unexplained things you have to do
One of my favorite games, you just have to not let the frustration of your characters dying get to you 😂. Playing the second one right now and living that one too
F-Zero GX is my favorite game period. I remember having a lot of trouble with it on my first playthrough, but as time passed, I learned to hone my skills and now I feel like a true F-Zero pilot.
@@stretch3744 It is crazy how you become better als eventually can beat the game on highest difficulty with each Pilot if you practice. TBH some of the story missions are straight outta hell concerning difficulty. The last thing I had to complete back then was the first mission where you collect those things in 3 rounds if I remember right.
Celeste was actually one of the hardest platforming games I've played in a long time. But it was so fun. I completed all of the B & C sides, all the hearts, and got 6 of the golden strawberries. I think I'm good done for now. So much death 😅
It really doesn't surprise me that Cuphead and Dark Souls 2 are on here but I am surprised that Cuphead wasn't higher on the list, that game is truly brutal
@@pathfinder9401 BABY version??? I have a harder time with Cuphead than I do with Megaman. Hyperfixating on the Megaman games for a majority of my childhood probably helped in that department.
I'm so glad you mentioned mega man 9!! It's the only mega man game i rage quit and nearly destroyed everything in the room. I've beaten every other mega man game.
Crash 4's main story was tough enough. All the extra stuff: the Flashback Tapes, the N. Sanely Perfect Relics, and the Time Trials made everything even more of an impossible grind.
Two more games worth mention are Blasphemous and Catherine, an underrated game from Atlus. I got to the point I had to switch to easy mode to beat the game.
Crash Bandicoot 4 It's about time deserves to be higher on this list just for Cortex Castle alone. No level in recent memory has had me so close to crying due to its difficulty than that one.
I died like 140 times on that level! It felt so satisfying when I finally beat it. Then after memorizing the entire level I had an easier time when I replayed it. I want another 3D platformer like that to come out. Let’s hope we get a crash 5 soon!
If we're not counting the optional stuff, Hollow Knight really isn't all that bad. I would've swapped that out with the original US release of Devil May Cry 3. The normal difficulty of that game was actually the Japanese version's HARD mode, so you were already playing on hard difficulty right from the start. Brutal!
These are interesting facts about these games! I've watched someone play "Geometry Dash", a gameplay of "Elden Ring" on TV, and streams of people playing "Celeste" and "Getting Over It With Bennett Foddy". The streamer who played "Getting Over It With Bennett Foddy" beat it! I had no idea there was a another Ninja Gaiden game. And I thought it was pronounced guy-dehn.
I remember my first fromsoft "boss" ever playing dark souls 2, that big ogre in things betwixt, I mistakenly thought it's a boss, it took me like 10 times just to beat him....I was wide-eyed when I discovered that was just a normal enemy lmao.....
Geometry dash should be top one without a single doubt. If you look at the hardest user created levels (Acheron, slaughterhouse, kyouki) you’ll notice it’s FAR harder than what you showed up here. But since people think geometry dash is only those basic levels, the true difficulty and skill is hardly considered which is a shane
I don’t think il ever enjoy a game as much as I enjoyed Bloodborne. The gloomy atmosphere, the cryptic lore, and the extremely rewarding exploration topped off with a combat system that feels so satisfying. Truely one of the greatest video games of all time.
Ain't no way Sekiro is considered easier than Dark Souls 2. I did not play Sekiro yet but I did play DS2 and I can say without a doubt that beating Sekiro will be more of a struggle than DS2. That is why I'm saving it to be the last FromSoftware game to play.
It wont, youll see. I was worried too, my advice is to beat lady butterfly before genichiro, she will take a while but once u beat her, genichiro will be much easier. She took my like 40 tries and he did like 3
@@cubeeboy1569 I will take your advice into consideration, thank you. I still need to beat Demon's Souls. Then the last challenge, Sekiro. DS is still expensive af though...
Bloodborne was hell for me even though it was my first introduction to the souls games it literally took me s few daysto defeat blood starved beast and the monster in some kind of church before i figured out in the dream that there was a upgrade station in the house so it was a huge pain in the ass for me
XCom 2 with those Alpha monsters that could moved/attacked after every turn was just a nightmare! Nothing worse than everything going good then having your turn your attention to them before they killed everyone!
Sekiro: Shadows Die Twice was truly a painfully hard game to play. I couldn't even beat my first ogre battle without dying I don't know how many times.
Nioh 1 felt slower and more punishing to me, dodging and counters were harder to do. I had a tougher time beating that game than the souls series. The Tengu was an enemy that i never felt confident on defeating, they were very tough. Before that there was ninja gaiden 2 on the 360, that game was brutal. Felt like you needed to prep 5 cups of coffee or energy drinks to keep up with the action.
Battletoads cane out in the 90s and thus not in this century. Rare made so many difficult games though. I played Banjo Kazooie and Tooie recently and can’t believe those games were made for children. Both games were very difficult
I sort of agree with Dark Souls 2 being harder than the other two, but not harder than Sekiro, it felt so good when I finally beat Isshin, I never thought it would happen
Glad and proud that I've almost platinummed Sekiro. Jesus, it's the most satisfying and in the same time the hardest game I've ever played. You know what they say: You can't be called a gamer until you don't finish Sekiro
@Watchmojo, if you haven’t checked out Wo Long, totally should, because lots of people have rage quit over the very first boss. Its fighting system is parry/deflect-heavy, and the timing is SO hard to get. It’s a fantastic and beautiful game, haven’t finished it quite yet, but it deserves a spot on your top 3 because to me it was more difficult than Ninja Gaiden (also played). This game is WELL WORTH the play and the rage! 😁👍🏻
My problem with first Wo Long Boss was the game was telling me to parry and I couldn't get it right so I thought I was horrible but the thing is if you have too much weight you can't deflect and the game didn't tell me that so I prepared myself to evade better diminishing my weight and suddenly I could deflect nearly everything. I get you avoid worse if you weight more, but parry? No way!
@@LoneWxlfEnt didn't say it initially with the intention to motivate but to share but don't missinterpret me, glad it did! Good luck with your own experience!
I dont know if I was just lucky or highly overleveled but I had no problem against Maliketh. He was one of the few bosses I beat first try. It's been a while since I played Elden RIng so I cant remember my built but I think it was a pretty average strength and dex build. I also always use a shield which makes battles against non-magic using enemies waaaaay easier.
elden ring is potentially the hardest fromsoftware games due to its nature of freedom. This freedom can allow you to play the game underleveled without feeling like the enemy is cheating and just so easily overpowered. Everyone plays every boss on different stage of their character.
@@jarlwhiterun7478 No he is not as hard as Malenia and no he is not almost impossible on ng+ . Maliketh if you want to fight him without player summons/spirit ashes and op builds is pretty easy once you learn his moveset , now that might take a while but when you do he is pretty easy to predict . Positioning and knowing the difference in similar looking attacks is key , he doesn't have a lot of hp for a late game boss since his hp is already at half when you fight the harder version of the fight . I liked the Maliketh fight and the first phase is kind of meh , it would be better if he had full hp in p2 . Tho I will say this beating ER both main and optional content at lvl 1 without summons was genuinely really difficult .
My friend struggled with him for hours, and I beat him first try, I feel like I was lucky, or when i fought him, I was overlevel maybe. By the way, I just beat ER once, and I'm replaying again. Maybe this time, I will get my ass kicked, lol.
@@spongeofastora6532 Were you using spirit ashes? Or maybe some kind of overpowered ability? Maliketh is very hard in the sense he hits like a truck and has a complex moveset. But, he has very low HP. Literally a glass cannon. Players who use the things I mentioned sometimes end up killing him before the fight heats up.
@@AlmostAl challenging area design, difficult bosses and enemies that at one point you ca. be doing good and then holy shit I’m almost dead. You know, the whole lot.
@@HeartOfHallownest I have played all the Souls games and your first one is usually the hardest but outside of Sekiro and Bloodborne the mechanics have not changed that much.
Yeah, no. Crash 4 may have deserved a bit higher on the list, but not #1. I'm not sure if you could understand based off just looking at it, but the top 5 especially is so brutally difficult you could not believe, at the highest level.
Why does no one ever include any rhythm games in their difficult video game list? They blow anything else out of the water in terms of difficulty. DDR, Pump it Up, Sound Voltex and the list goes on. Every rhythm game I can think of has songs so difficult most will never even dare to attempt them.
The Time it took me to complete one game has been amazing. Zelda: Breath of the Wild is an amazing game that has lots of fun mechanics. Since it came out I frequently played and then kind of forgot about the game. About three to four years later I finally start playing again. Only after the new game came out, Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom, did I finally beat the final boss (On my first try) and beat the game. I can't wait to finish Tears of the Kingdom.
Nioh 2 is miles and miles way harder than Elden Ring. Once you reach The Underworld, you will get used to dying multiple times. You will not even feel anything as if you already got used to dying.
What if... Disney and FOX made and directed Capcom Movies? FOX gets Devil May Cry, Resident Evil, Dead Rising and Asura's Wrath! Disney gets Mega Man, Street Fighter, Ghosts 'n' Goblins, Viewtiful Joe and Darkstalkers!
I loved Darkest Dungeon. The Shambler, and Judge could wreck a mission even an easy one. That giant crow was so unfair! Same with Wulf. Still lots of fun. Even when you lose
I actually found DS2 the EASIEST souls game, once I'd figured out some of the design features. Though I thought most bosses were easier, the mob layouts are some of the most bastardly in the whole series 😅
One thing that I think was the hardest about XCOM 2 was the fact that no matter how perfectly you plan every mission, unless you are given a 100% aim shot, one miss can throw everything off. Especially when some of the enemies you face later on can require an entire squad to hit them before dying.
I'm quite surprised The Legend of Zelda Majora's mask isn't on the list even as an honourable mention. I thought the great bay temple was very challenging but I still love this game for its story and soundtrack and worldbuilding great video Watchmojo 😊👍
Y’all are outta your mind for sayin dark souls 2 is not only the hardest souls game, but the hardest game overall of the century. I played all of the souls games many times and could confidently say ds2 is a cake walk.
Great list. But i think Slain back from Hell and Valfaris are both worth mentioning, as they are way harder than Cuphead or Hollow Knight. Only if they were more known... Also thanks for mentioning Spelunky and GD. Great games!!!
Just to let you know. There is a Valfaris sequel in the works. Played the demo during the last nextfest. It’s really good and he completely reinvented into a gradius style game. Should definitely check it out. Can’t wait for the full release
One of my personal honorable mentions is actually a Legend of Zelda game. Legend of Zelda Breath of The Wild. while it does get easier over time it starts out incredibly hard since all enemies can kill you in one hit making the dodge mechanics that much more important and even in the late game when you have your heart counter maxed out dodging is still crucial since one hit from an enemy can take out half of your total health.
AYE THE BOUNCER THE BOUNCER that shit hard as hell. Zero health recovery, long as hell check points, and you basically start all over if you loose get at it mojo
Including user-created levels, GD is the hardest game of all time, the number of people who can beat the hardest level(currently tidal wave) is less than the number of people who have iqs of over 160, less than the number of people admitted to MIT, and it isn't far-fetched to say that less than 0.0001% of the world's population can beat it
Imo, Sekiro is the most satisfying game to “git gud” at. Once you’ve got it, and you get in the flow state, it’s downright amazing. Sword combat has never been better.
