When someone says "its just a prank" Its best to respond by punching them in the face and when they get outraged say "what you didn't like the punch line?" Suddenly they have no sense of humor for some reason.
Issue is that the majority of these are not pranks, more like harassment, breaking the law or straight up bullying. A prank is when you replace someone's bag of chips with a spicy bag of chips, not when you cause harm to the person or their property.

I have a theory that people who do these public pranks on randoms are closet bullies who use the title of "prank" to do little attacks on people in public without being looked at as a bully. There is a reason why pranks are only good around close friends because its a small tier of bullying.

I had an epic prank pulled on me once. I was a teen and obsessed with Def Leppard. As a silly joke, I put “Corvette Stingray” on my Christmas wish list (the type of car drummer Rick Allen was driving when he had his accident that cost him an arm). Christmas Day comes and my sisters and I are at our mother’s. Stockings were done and all gifts under the tree had been opened. Out of the blue, a cousin of mine says there’s one more gift for me, but they had to leave it in the driveway. Curious and excited, I rushed outside and saw shining in the late December sun, a brand new Corvette Stingray!! Matchbox Car!!! I was laughing SO hard I could barely breathe! THAT’S a prank.
I noticed pranksters never really take into account when they're in America is that people have guns those people do not appreciate being threatened they have a gun for a reason and that is if someone threatens their life or the life of their family those people will be ready to eliminate the threat and if you are acting like a threat there more than likely going to see you as a threat meaning if they see you as a threat they're going to eliminate you and there's only one person to blame and it ain't them
Honestly these videos never made me admire how tough and jumpy some people can be. Like those people in the hood who jumped on the idiot the second they became an ass. How is any of this a 'prank'? A prank is when someone wraps up a gift card in boring old socks and you find it. These aren't 'pranks' Just experiments to see what horrible behaviour they can get away with before someone calls the police. I don't think they know what a 'prank' actually is.
What's the difference between these "pranks" and bullying? Scaring, intimidating, taunting, teasing, etc. at the expense of unwilling participants sounds the same to me.

Or how about a ghost or horror prank in which the pranksters would dress up as horror creatures, ie zombies in which they would prank people driving vehicles which ended up in the victims running the pranksters over with their vehicles
What many people don't understand is that a lot of the people in these videos tend to attack the prankster. And in reality that counts as assault and you would both get in trouble. So think before you swing on someone.

In the early years of youtube I remember seeing video of a botched reality tv show from Mexico. One of the presenters would hide in this mail box that wasn't fixed to the ground so he could actually follow people in it for short distances. People would put their mail in and he'd throw it out and hilarity would ensue. Well at some point someone pulled out a handgun and shot a few rounds killing him apparently. I don't even know what the show was called but that always stuck in my mind wondering if it was real or something staged. Because I never saw it again after that.
There was a prank in Russia where there was a kid in a mailbox that would shoot out people's mail until one Russian with a gun fired and killed the kid.

I guess gone wrong = prankers just got hurt .. because there is a case I remember where 1 of guys who doing the prank got killed and his friend got 20 years in prison .. I think IT was a home invasion but I dont 100% remember .
