The first time you and I met for drinks, I was wearing my quartz Invicta GMT and I was so impressed that you treated it as seriously to me as any $10,000 Rolex. Just speaks to your point that it’s all valid. Pure class.

I dont understand why there is so much negativity among people about quartz when it has so many positives. 1 - time keeping precision 2 - durability (you dont want you G-Shock to be mechanical) 3 - size (look how slim a watch can be) 4 - low purchasing cost 5 - low servicing cost 6 - more features (the dial can be lit up, the watch can be fully or partially digital, bluetooth...) and, btw, a solar-powered mechanism is actually pretty cool.

@stephens2r338
@stephens2r338 5 лет назад
All your points hold merit and they are the reasons why l think everyone should have a quartz watch in their collection. Wear it daily, abuse it then throw it away after a few years and get a new one. The movement quality is not the same as a mechanical and you will never service it, just a battery change. So dont buy a high end quarts watch because there not worth it.

Na, the problem is the Royal Oak brought somehow the renaissance of the automatic. So it’s pretty brave to commit to a quartz one. I own a BN0171 by Braun and the DW5635, 35 years G-Shock Redout edition. They have quartz movements and I love them!
@eddieguyvh4765
@eddieguyvh4765 5 лет назад
@@stephens2r338 There are quartz movements that are more Pleasant to look at than mechanical ones. I own an Ebel quartz, and opening it up is just marvelous. There is still excellent marksmanship involved, and even my watchmaker was impressed (the case is intricately beautiful design too). Some other quartz movements are also very Advanced: thermocompensated ones, for example, are an engineer's dream! Even if I'll Always prefer a mechanical Watch, I'll forever own inexpensive or higher end quartzes too.

Good points! I have 10 watches, most of them cheaper than 100$ because I don't have much money. but I still enjoy looking at Omega, Rolex, Patek etc. and watching channels like this one and learning about horology and looking at all from old pocket watches to new 1m$ watches. It's a hobby, doesn't matter if you have 10 expensive watches or 1 cheap one. It's like if you're in to cars and drive a cheap one. Of course you can appreciate Ferrari even tough you can't afford it.

I haven't worn a watch since the Army 20 years ago and recently for Christmas I decided to traet myself and I broke down and got myself a Seiko 5 with the day in full as a separate window at the 6 o'clock, but I had not yet seen any of your videos about not buying from grey market so I don't know the exact model of my watch, but I love the watch. I don't have much of a budget but after watching your videos I have a little itch for another one. So I went out and got a Casio Illuminator for the gym and around house and garage. I really like your channel and am getting inspired. Keep up the great work.

I have a couple Fossil watches and those are considered fashion watches. I only get them if they're on sale. Like under $100 on sale. That way if they clunk out on me I'm not out much but Fossil watches have a decent track record as far as fashion watches go. My best friend has had the same one for almost 8 years needing nothing but battery changes.
@stephens2r338
@stephens2r338 5 лет назад
Fashion watches are designed to last only for a short time before they break it's not really an issue though because you are supposed to keep up with fashions as they keep changing and replace them every year anyway. The problem with some though is their high price like Armani. At $800 you strart to compare them with quality brands which they are not. You dont expect the gold plating to wear off after only a year or two. Cost is not a way to measure quality
@wj00312
@wj00312 5 лет назад
I think you can buy fashion watches as long as you know exactly what you're buying, at the right price. I actually have a few Nixon watches in my collection. I don't expect much from them since watches aren't their main focus. I mostly liked the designs. I purchased all three on sale for well below MSRP. All three also came with Horween straps (which I found as a huge bonus).

Btw, I`ll continue educating people on correct pronunciations, they won`t seek out that information otherwise, if they would, they would already have done so ;) Not in public though, nobody gets embarrassed when it`s in a youtube comment, or at least nobody can see them being embarrassed when they`reading a correction hehe.. One by one, people are getting edified, and might *some* day, SOME day, be able to use your and you`re, or there vs their correctly in a sentence. I refuse to accept partial illiteracy in reasonably intelligent people with full access to information. When language fails, society falls, there`s a least ONE movie about it. It`s all true you know, if we stop reading and writing, all that`s left is "Ogg hungry, Ogg eat bark from tree" Then Hugo comes along with his superior vernacular and pronounciation and EATS poor Ogg! End of days, *just* like the movies..

Amen! I have and love automatic's (or anything mechanical) but I work in law enforcement. For work I wear a couple of Timex Expeditions. The Indigo light is great at night but the best feature is that the crystal sits below the top of the bezel. That way when you slam some perp (or get slammed) on the pavement you don't break your watch crystal. So yeah, Horology is a large field of study that many of us love, but Timex still has a place.

For the left-right wrist point here in italy there's the tradition of usually wearing your watch on the left because most people is right-handed so they can use their main hand for doing stuff and at the same time check the time (sorry for the repetition). And this maybe is also because old italian models had the charging mechanism on the right side of the watch so they were more easily chargeble if worn on the left wrist. I got into watches because my grandfather was a typesetter and machinist who liked to build stuff in his workshop. He made cuckoo clocks for friends in his neighbourhood and I was amazed by how understandable mechanical mechanisms could be used to tell that time but also do so in a whimsical way with chimes and animation. My dad was transfixed with a grand seiko he saw in a catalogue back in the 60s and he saved up to buy one. It was one of the only models in our country for years and works beautifully after decades. The quality of Seiko watches from the 60s and 70s can't be overstated. I've owned too many watches over the years and they all have a place in my heart. Watch snobbery is irritating. There are beautiful watches out there at many price points. I can't resist a quality "beater" in steel or titanium as I know I'll actually wear the thing rather than some more expensive pieces I've gotten and sold which I never really felt comfortable wearing. My only rules are to buy watches that were designed and built with love and to get stuff I'll actually wear as opposed to keep in a box. My favourite watch is probably the JLC Master Compressor Extreme World Chronograph as it's great value for the lineage, exquisitely made while having a reassuring heft and robustness.

Yes, one misconception is if the watch is inexpensive then it is junk. I have a fourth dollar Timex I bought from Kohls some years ago, I put it on a leather watch cuff, wore it, banged it around and it is still taking a lickin and keeping on tickin. Then I also have more expensive watches I'm afraid to were in the rain. At least with an inexpensive watch when it quits no big loss.

Please kindly consider a revision on the brand Seiko, I personally think it is overrated. What’s more, the fact Seiko fanboys are downright hostile toward whoever criticises Seiko, is coincidentally low-class as Seiko watches.

Bobby Wu ; Seiko is huge, you’ll get everything from a very basic affordable watch at one end of the scale to GS at the other. You can’t expect same quality from each, but you do get value and innovation.

That tells me that you are actually low class and you don't know much about Seiko watches or watches in general ; seiko makes watches for every person from 100$ to 300 000 $ Seiko credor. No wonder people give u crap.

I have only one watch and it's a fossil quarz watch but I'm a watch enthusiast. I totally agree with you, the amount of watches people have doesn't define wether someone can consider himself a watch enthusiast or not. I just don't have money for watches because I'm still a student but I still really enjoy looking at watches in a store, watching watch related RU-vid videos, browse on the internet for new watches to buy that I actually don't end up buying.

Hello! So I am probably a younger viewer than most of this channel. But I really enjoy the content here and I have grown to love the art of watchmaking. I am 19 and I am about to pull the trigger on my first automatic watch. I've been mislead by the marketing campaigns of MVMT and the such in the past, and I believe this first watch will be a crucial step in my style evolution from a teenager to a man. With that being said and with my budget in mind I have found 2 watches that I really enjoy aesthetically and I really cannot decide between them. Junkers Bauhaus 6050-2 or Tissot Visodate Heritage. Here in Greece, I can order both online from the official websites, and they are both equaly priced around 470euros (530USD). I would like to know which one you think is better suited for me. I really love the look of both. I love the aviation heritage, I love the tissot prestige. I love the bauhaus aesthetic and the swiss / german quality. Would love to hear your opinions!

Hi TGV! - AP is so much matches to you in my op. About your summarised 20 facts: 1. Prices of the watches must be reasonable, the scale is huge as much as the scale of the quality, furthermore the variation of the ratio between the value and cost. I always got a bit of upset when i read somewhere the someone says: that is so expensive, and oh why? We can ask why and we may now plenty of reason but the watch wont be cheaper after all. If I want something I don't argue the price but I try to figure out how the get what I want. That's it. 2. If someone buy a watch as an investment or with I speculative thought like possibly get more money after they used the watch or at least do not loose too much, that kind of mentality, I have to say that more about the money and not about the watch or real watch enthusiasm for sure. To own a watch is really about love and admiration and something higher motive, not just time keeping. 3. Size. It s a good one as well. At the moment I'm more rigid to wear any different sizes, neither small ( under 38 mm ) or something too big ( above 44 ) but it is so interesting! When I first got or bought watches I just never ever thought about the size of them at all! However one time I wanted to buy a lovely Marvin in 42mm and the seller said to me that that looked too big on me so I bought another one, actually I've been less happy with that and kinda regretted not to purchase the first one. Size is not an issue in itself but part of all the features aspect of the watch, best to try on them, not just order something online, if the size is a matter. 4. Sadly ... 5. Chinese? There is a story about a friend of mine who has a vintage aged Chinese watch, the only one and working very well, he loves it, working perfectly, just amazing. What can I say more ... Stereotypes hardly ever goods enough to accept them. 6. Watch dealers .. you are so right ... and that s so worthy you ever listed your best dealers. Im in UK so I haver to find my own best dealers I guess. 7. no comment to this 8. review a watch never held, well, that's interesting one. :) and yeah I remember when in an early video of you mentioned that you weren't a big fun of AP ( wast your 'cup of tea' ). 9. I really could not wear any fake watches. A cheaper genuine is far more better. 10. I've been always worn the watch on my left I guess, I have no idea why but feel s more obvious the wear it on my right. 11. Mispronouncing ... well, in my opinion this fact has two faces: 1. accept the original pronunciation 2. accept the individual pronunciation. Both are important and connect people in respect. The different accent is the same fact. I think everyone has their own accent, really stupid to complain about it and think we have the only one right. That's just egoist and childish and very narrow.. 12. horology I think is more profound , scientific, philosophical and comprehensive. 13. :) 14. :) 15. I so much like the manufacture videos how they make watches, ( Seiko, Damasko, Alpina, Rolex, IWC, Breitling etc have been seen but I'm still curious. ) 16. Fashion is about the appearance so that s why they not really care about the horologic impact, they offer and sell the watch as a part of the whole stuff to wear, which by the fashion prospective is the most wanted to sell, so that s also may be a reason why the watch 'should not be to expensive' yet fancy. 17. Watchtime ... I got it. Thanks. 18. ... 19. stock-pilling wt ... ? :) 20. I like nice reliable watches ,I love luxury watches, not the top high ones yet but the entry and middle level. Thanks for the great review, I loved to hear Hugo to sing at 13 and 14. Best regards, Robert :)) TTTT20. I love reasonably

Great vid TGV. I can`t see why someone would bash people for wearing watch on the right hand in general. I noticed for instance left handed people often wear watches on right hand as it is hand that is not used for writing so for instance watch is not catching edge of the notebook. As a kid I was wearing my first watch on the right hand...I remember few grown-ups telling me that I am wearing watch like a girl...I switched and never looked back...in the end of the day, it does not matter...if you want to wear your watch on your ankle...more power to you :)

Well everyone who has ever known alot about any subject knows that he knows nothing. You think you know alot about the Tudor lineage and look up a date in Wikipedia and 5 hours later you still jump from article to article with content you never heard about; and if you love this process, as I do, you become humble about how much you think you know. Great content from your side, thx. P.s. It should be mentioned that your intros are among the best i do see on youtube, very elaborate and laborious.

I have a 1970's gold-plated Tissot Seastar, some of the plating has worn off of the lugs, the dial is damaged where the dial foot was forced prior to me buying it and I scratched the dial removing the hands but I bought it as a non-runner stripped it down, cleaned it, reassembled and re-oiled it fitted a new crystal and a new strap. Its running and keeping pretty good time, its my first successful repair and its become my second favourite watch. My favourite watch is a 1995 quartz Tissot Seastar that my Mum and late father gave to me for my 21st birthday. An interesting collection does not have to be expensive.

Love your personality my friend, very classy...just one thing regarding what hand to wear the watches on, it depends on if you are right handed or left handed. Most people are right handed, so they wear the watch on the left hand because the left hand doesn't get used as much, so the watch doesn't scratch.
