Orochimaru was possibly one of the creepiest whenever he was stealing peoples bodies and then the laugh afterwards whenever he’s fighting the hokage was so creepy and scary
Yeah, I completely agree with you, but for me, Orochimaru is the creepiest villian ever due to the fact that I have a massive phobia of snakes. I can't even look at pictures or videos of snakes without freaking out, and even the animated snakes in Naruto don't freak me out, but they do cause my anxiety to spike.
If this is my list I will surely put Johan Liebert as no. 1. He is actually the literal "Monster" hiding in a human form. The most terrifying thing is John's character is possible in real life.
The most terrifying thing about Gluttony is that his kind of terror is _implied._ It's all screams, fade to black, and chewing noises. The most effective kind of terror is suggesting and leaving it to imagination. ☠

yea its kinda like madara vs orochimaru. Madara was def a bigger and more titanic threat. but orochimaru was so disturbing and horrific that he traumatized me as a kid lol. his theme music in og naruto was terrifying
Out of all the villains in One Piece, I would say Doffy, Lucci, & Big Mom are more terrifying than Kaido. Doflamingo has been a straight up psychopath since he was a kid, & he had no qualms about killing his own father and brother. Lucci is a pure sociopath who enjoys killing, & he’s also been like that as a kid. As for Big Mom, she has ripped the souls out of her own children when she was in her hunger pangs & as a kid her hunger pangs caused her to eat her fellow orphans and her caretaker.
When you compare him to real monsters of terror like the cockroach people, the evil murder bunnies, or Alexander Anderson from Hellsing, he’s not that bad.
I'll never forget the first time I saw Orochimaru during the exam ARC he was creepy AF. & the very fact just looking at him makes you beg for Death says a lot.
Johan Liebert may not be a demon, a human with supernatural powers, a alien, or even a god. But he is definitely one of the most terrifying considering how realistic of a antagonist he is.
He should be no. 1 to be honest. He is the literal title of the anime. "Monster" hiding in a form of human. He is very terrifying like what The Joker and Darth Vader is.
Johan *might* be the literal antichrist, in which case would explain not only his evil, but his abilities to manipulate any and everyone. Both the anime and the manga open up with a quote from the Book of Revelation chapter 13. Interestingly enough, it skips over the part about the beast(the anti christ) having an injured head that gets healed....remind you of anyone? They probably knew it would be too on-the-nose to include that verse in the opening. Then towards the end of the series the drunk man sees Johan as literal monstrous beast....
While Gluttony is terrifying, I think Shou Tucker, especially in the 2003 series, has got him beat. His storyline is certainly more unsettling, at least.
In all honesty, Pride is the far more terrifying homunculus than Gluttony in Brotherhood. Think about it. He takes the form of a sweet and cheerful little boy until he drops the act, can manipulate shadows from seemingly anywhere, uses said shadows to consume his victims, and toys with his victims in the process on top of that so he can sadistically keep them guessing when or where he'll strike and without warning unlike Gluttony who actually gives some warning by asking Lust or whoever is acting as his handler at the time for permission. Also, Pride's shadows take a horrific form when he reveals them. It literally takes having eyes and ears everywhere to a whole new level because it adds grinning maws and teeth to the mix, as well, so you're screwed for just looking down a dark alley no matter the time of day when it comes to that creepy kid. Lastly, a spoiler for Fullmetal Alchemist: Brotherhood, regardless of how old the anime is, Pride viscerally and mercilessly kills Gluttony by tearing him apart and eating him and his philosopher's stone using his shadows, ALIVE. You almost actually start to feel sorry for Gluttony because he goes out crying for the long dead Lust to save him from his demise. So, how Pride was overlooked in favor of Gluttony is beyond me.

My partner has started to watch Boruto and I've told them to pay attention to how people will straight-up LIE about everything Orochimaru did (and lots of other stuff from their past) and it's baffling how Naruto ever forgave Orochimaru but let Sasuke sit in prison for years

I totally agree. I’ve always felt the only way for the story to end properly is to have him become the monster he wishes to conquer. With griffiths new world, guts has been made into the demon. The Major from Hellsing Ultimate is unsettling in regards to his reason for waging war: nothing. Just for the hell of war and the thrills of sinister bloodshed, and among all the hideous and dark monsters that exist in our world, only humans can fall so low.
Rocks D Xebec was the Captain of Kaido , Whitebeard and Big Mom and required the combined efforts Garp and Gol D Roger to bring him down If all we ever get is a flashback of him , I'm pretty sure he'll be the new number one
For me it's the 2 Terminator Androids from Genocyber. They were no match against the Protagonist tho but the way they transformed and how they kill people was terrifying.
Jessie’s Mimikyu from Pokémon Sun & Moon. In stark contrast to the original definition of Mimikyu, in which they dress up like Pikachu to be loved, the one Jessie catches is a complete _psychopath,_ practically willing to murder any Pikachu that gets in its way!

Johan Liebert is but a man. Human as human can be and that is exactly why he is terrifying. Someone you could probably run into on the streets somewhere. A charming devil made flesh capable of anything within our realm of reality, and just as unpredictable. He invokes a very real, rational fear The title of the anime "Monster" might sound lackluster to the unfamiliar, to the initiated it is literally the most fitting name for it. After all, Johan can be summed up in one word.

Not the best video. I agree with a few but most of the actual terrifying villians was before the top 10. The fact that not even Bonedrewd from made in abyss was on the list makes this video null & void. Try better.

Trigun was sweet and wholesome, then the minute Legato entered the scene the series was never quite the same. Knives didn’t have that direct impact like Legato. The Trigun OST perfect night. Is still the scariest theme song for a character.

The Death Note one is not a plot hole genius. When someone touches the Death Note they can see the Shinigami. Also, it's very obvious that even if the government from Demon Slayer would sent their strongest military forces they would still be no match against demons who are supernatural creatures. This is why the Demon Slayer Corps exists. Because it is the only faction that can fight against the demons.
I'll admit, Eren turning to the dark side is heart breaking. Almost as heart breaking as when Daenerys turned to the dark side and destroyed King's Landing. P.S. Two villains who should've been added to this list would be Rebi Ra from "Demon City Shinjuku," and Count Magnus Lee from "Vampire Hunter D."
Orochimaru gave me nightmare as a kid. I watched the Chunin (sorry can't spell it) as a kid and I was home alone at the time. I had to watch Tom and Jerry before being able to sleep. Boruto just degraded his character.

Hakumen no mono from Ushio to Tora deserves to top this list. I'm pretty desensitized to most things but even I found that thing to be legitimately terrifying.
What about Incognito and The Major from Hellsing, or Yami Marik and Yami Bakura/Zorc from YuGiOh? Also, we didn't see it in the anime yet, but (spoilers) the manga reveals that Eren saw the future, and if he didn't do what he did, the Titan Wars would have continued for centuries until all life was wiped out and the world was left a barren wasteland, but by activating The Rumbling and vilifying and sacrificing himself, he took on the world's hatred and ended the war, and saved 20% of the world's population by killing 80% of it instead of having all of humanity die in the never-ending war that would have come.
The Most Terrifying Anime Villains I've ever seen are Makoto Shishio from *Rurouni Kenshin,* All for One from *My Hero Academia* and Muzan Kibutsuji from *Demon Slayer.* These three are THE Most Terrifying, Evil, Heartless, Bruteful, Merciless, Tyrannical and Dominant Anime Villains There Is.

Johan Liebert should be top 3. No way are Gluttony or Eren more terrifying than the Nameless Monster. Kaido at number 1 is justified, the King of the Beasts was truly terrifying.
Muzan from Demon Slayer ranks up there for me. A narcissistic demon who kills with absolutely no remorse and thinks nothing of killing even his own! What makes it even worse, he blends in with human society so easily without any problem. A great but evil villain!
How did DIO and Diabolo not make the list? DIO that could make a mother to eat her own child or Diabolo that valued his secrecy to the point of burying his own mother alive, killing his Padre and trying to kill his heiress. HOW!?
Kaido his terror is in his influence and power like people may say he shouldn't be on here but in the one piece world you say his name in a city and everyone including marines and pirates within 1,000 miles go find a corner and cry with other one piece villain like doffy and croc they are feared but some people will atleast try to stand up to them so i think he belongs on this list just not as high as he is
Pre Shippuden Orochimaru was actually terrifying. Kishomoto just wanted to take him through that weird redemption arc afterwards, but imagine if he would have actually been and stayed committed to the Akatsuki and his own personal goals. He would have been both creepy and terrifying til the end.

Honorable mention: Ze Major. Hellsing and Hellsing Ultimate. Ze Major(real name unknown) is the last commanding officer of Hitlers army and the commander of the Third Reich, an army consisting of 1000 vampires. Throughout the hellsing series his sole purpose is to kill Alucard while instigating bloodiest war ever seen. By the time the series ends, London is flooded with blood, trillions of lives are lost including his own men, and unexpectedly, he is the last one to die. Ze Major is a non combatant character. In fact, the closest thing weve seen from him fight wise is him shooting and missing his targets. But its his charisma that makes him terrifying. He sees a much bigger picture. A much bigger plan. And the scarier part? Hes one of the few villains that actually succeeded in his goals. He beat Alucard and caused the single bloodiest war in human history.
Mad Pierrot and Shishio are the only ones who deserve to be on this list. The rest don't even rate at a pathetic. Modern anime just doesn't have the same darkness to it anymore.
Imo, Kaido doesn't deserve number one, Eren doesn't deserve a spot on the list. Kaido's imposing, but I think Big Mom is more terrifying. And Eren just gave up his arc to destroy the world with a power that wasn't even his to begin with. He's still a wimp.
I can't believe they chose kaido instead of void, void was way more terrifying just standing there. Kaido is just overwhelming he's not really a good villain.
I'd take Kaido over the Apostles from Berserk and the Homunculus from FMA any day. An honourable mention should go to Mayuri from Bleach the number of ways he could end your life is endless and your death wouldn't even be swift.
Any anime villain that goes “full anime” as I like to call it shouldn’t be on this list. You know what I’m talking about; that point that so many formerly cool villains snap, go over the top crazy, start spouting monologue that make no sense, and get those crazy eyes. It totally rips me out of the immersion and is my biggest anime pet peeve
King Barragan would've been a better candidate than Kaido. His dark smoke can easily decay anything it touches makes him a terrifying villain. (Speaking of decay, Shigaraki from MHA is also eerily scary as well)
The God Hand should have been first place. Nothing more terrifying than finding out God is real and that they feed off the suffering of humanity. The eclipse is the stuff of nightmares.
