The concept of the Bear in annihilation in itself is disturbing. Mimicking your last victim's screaming for help to lure others to their demise. My god it's terrifying and probably the most brilliant monster design I've seen in decades. Definitely up there with Weeping Angels as my top two scariest fictional monsters.

I have mixed feelings about Rexy and Jaws being on this list. Unlike the other monsters, these two aren't really malicious. They're just animals following their nature.

I love The Ritual. That monster design is terrifying, and created such a great build-up to it.

Damn, was waiting for Valak. The slow walk that the Nun does scared me more than the jumpscares.

Samara from The Ring absolutely petrified me when I was younger. I still find her really unnerving in my 30’s!

The bear scene in Annihilation was the first horror-esque scene to genuinely terrify me in yearsss. I loved it so much but hated it in all the ways I was supposed to hate it ❤️

The Thing from John Carpenter's 1982 masterpiece is still one of the most terrifying movie monsters ever put on film. The idea and the execution are truly chilling

Antlers is sooooo underrated. The Wendigo was amazing looking in it and it was a good story about abuse and trauma, with beautiful cinematography and music, great atmosphere, and amazing lead acting performances.

I almost puked when The Thing took over someone’s body to bite off the dude’s arms. I find James A Janisse’s kill count videos better than the movie itself cause I get scared easily

The Crooked Man did scare me but scared me more in it’s own series

Your #1 choice is spot on. I understand that the director (Ridley Scott) didn't tell anyone in the cast (except John Hurt) about what was going to happen in the Chest Burster scene, so when the creature breaks out, the horrified reactions from the characters is genuine shock being expressed by the unaware actors.

Personally I found Calvin, the alien from Life, terrifying.

I think the werewolf from "An American Werewolf In London" should be on this list. Rick Baker did a tremendous job at creating it.

That Plants joke was funny. For a second I thought it was real and I was waiting for the explanation then bam! #joke status 🤣👏

I agree that the Xenomorph deserves to be in the #1 spot. It's definitely #1 on my list.

I saw Alien in a movie theater when it first came out. There were long sections I simply couldn’t watch back then 😳🙄 I remember walking back home (it was a dark winter night with snow everywhere) and the sight of a neighbor’s cat sitting on the fence of our front yard was almost too much 😆😆😆

The Crawlers scared me big time from The Descent -saw it on TV, Harry Potter and the Half Blood Prince and The Hunger Games: Mockingjay Part 2. Made my heart jump since I can remember

The Thing still traumatized and still haunts me up to this very day. truly a horror classic

Moder from the Ritual really surprised me in a good way. I had no idea such a cool creature design was gonna pop up in just another random Netflix movie.

Moder was well designed. The Ritual had some genuinely scary scenes that set the mood, and a blink-and-you'll-miss-it shot where Moder randomly appears in the woods in the background watching them had me rewinding to see if I saw what I saw.

The first time I watched Annihilation, I was blown away. The sound the bear makes still haunts me to this day

The chest buster scene in alien shocked the actors. They were not aware how it was going to turn out. Their reactions are real. That movie shocked people when it was released. Check out the behind the scenes if you find the special editions discs. Very insightful

I only have a minor disagreement about #8. I certainly agree that Rexy is the most *iconic* dinosaur in the franchise, and she certainly is frightening (I still remember a nightmare where she caught me, and I could *feel* all her teeth piercing my torso). But for me, the *raptors* are *far* more terrifying as far as “monsters” go. Adaptability and tactics trump size and bite force in my book.

The Lipstick face Demon looks too much like my boy Darth Maul with a toupee on to be scary for me

I’m confuse to why is Blair Witch even on this list when we haven’t even seen any monster 🤔

As a kid I watched Freddy, The Fly, Hellraiser, Alien, Terminator, The Thing, Predator, The Never Ending Story, Critters, Little Shop of Horrors, Howard The Duck all of which had terrifying creatures but the one that stuck in my brain and kept me afraid of the dark was the Hell Hound from Ghost Busters. That scene of the face pressing through the door then the hands popping out of the chair dragging her toward its demonic face scared the living shit out of me as a kid. Now as an adult I've seen it all but the most thrilling creatures still remain Alien from the Alien franchise and the books.

May not be on the list but hence the title, Monster House scared the Jesus out of me when I was a kid. I know it’s animation but imagining it in real life and nightmares just got real

Graboids from the Tremor movie freaked me out as a kid I was scared of walking on the ground lol.

The ghost from "LIGHTS OUT" is so terrifying and the movie itself is so underrated.

The monster from The Relic deserves a mention

Skaarsgard’s physical performance is so good as Pennywise… I love how weird he moves if you watch him… almost as though he’s “bound up” within his own skin, struggling to adapt to his size

Literally any of the monsters in “the stable” in “Cabin in the Woods could have and should have made this list, also I know that Der Klown made the list but I thought Krampus himself was pretty freaky

Why wasn’t the predator on here? I find it very horrifying given the fact it has enhanced predadtory hunting skills

The Blair Witch wasn’t just good acting Those people genuinely thought they were gonna die. During filming, crew would mess with them by making the signals, walking around their camp at night, and just doing things to mess with their minds. So that girl crying that she’s afraid to close and open her eyes, was genuinely afraid to for her life

I loved seeing Shelob on the list. She creeped me out. And it was exactly what this presentation said that made the scene so great. The tension was built up for some time that Gollum was leading Frodo to his death. Then the slow appearance of Shelob, Frodo's apparent escape, Gollum's attack and apparent death, and then Shelob's silent reapparance, stalking Frodo before her attack. That was masterful. And the way she moved was so spider-like, it almost makes up for this narrator calling her just a giant spider.

I was working up my Magnum Opus of rants about "The Happening: the Plants" when she said, "no, but seriously." 🤣

The Xenomorph is definitely the Ambassador of the Greatest Scariest Movie Monsters.

No one on earth has called the insidious demon the “lip stick face demon”. Just call it the insidious demon.

The first appearance of the Xenomorph queen in Aliens is one of the best reveals in movie history.

The smile entity has been in recent years one of my most freightened ones, he was so uncomfortably creepy.

Rexy scared me as a kid. I always thought that a T-Rex was going to get me when i had to sit in the car by myself and wait for my mom to get in.

Always thought the “crawlers” from the descent were a form of Wendigo as well.

I'm honestly surprised that the vampires from '30 Days Of Night' did not make this list. They freak me out every time lol

Javier Botet and Doug Jones are the two best actors ever at portraying creepy monsters and should be as well known and recognised as the main cast are..

2:45 In my opinion the best and the creepiest potrayal of Wendigo gave us Stephen King in the Pet Sematary.

The Thing is my "number one" but if I'm being honest...the monster baby from It's Alive scared the crap out of me in 1978. Until I became a parent, it was the only nightmare monster to ever wake me up scared. Built and performed by a very young Rick Baker, btw. 😉

YES! Count Orlok made the list! Of all the horror movies on this list, the count still makes the hairs on the back of my neck stand up,100 years later the Count scares a Gen Z. Thats what i call masterful film making

The fact that Pumpkinhead didnt make this list is extremely disappointing to me. Google him if you've never seen it. I also encourage watching Pumpkinhead and Pumpkinhead 2: Blood Wings. He more than deserves to be on this list.

The dementor, Imho, doesn’t belong on the list. The long armed monster from the recent Blair Witch 2016, the radioactive humans from Chernobyl Diaries, and several others come to mind. I also feel that Rexy is totally out of place here with the next on the list being Nosferatu. Definitely could make several lists alone from the monsters on this list, ranging from mutations, to creations and many more. Regardless, love the content and keep up the great work!! 👏🏽 👏🏽 👏🏽

My favorite designs and monsters are always the more high folk ones, or the sci fi ones. Such as Moder, the Wendigo, the Blair Witch, the mutated bear etc. All of them are super creative and beautifully made.

For me the velociraptors were way scarier than Rexy in the first Jurrasic Park.

The Bear from Annihilation and The Pale Man from Pan's Labyrinth are the movie monsters that scared me most.

JAWS and Open Water made me afraid of the ocean, The Blair Witch project, made me be afraid of florest, Alien, made me afraid of space, Aracnofomia made me afraid of spiders. Humans killing people made me afraid of the monsters that are Humans. GHOSTS, MONTERS, DEMONS, ... doesn't really scare me. Great video, all these movies are really good.

The creatures from the movie 'The Mist' are truly terrifying. The spiders at least should have been on this list.

Mr Barlow from Salems Lot was a bit more scary than 1920's Nosferatu. Having said that, in the 1920's I'd imagine people were absolutely horrified by it

You forgot "The Blob". It's the most under-appreciated Monster of all time. If I ever hit the lottery, I'm doing a requel with Cronenberg's kid, or Mike Flanagan and bring back Shawnee and Kevin from the 1988 film. It had a wide open ending. Love your stuff!! Keep moving forward!!

No Predator??? No way!! Also... Though not many people have seen it, there was a film called Leviathan that contained a truly disgusting creature that essentially "absorbed" people it killed, though not in the same way as The Thing. The leviathan had parts of its human victims extruding from its body: A face here, an arm or a leg there, etc.

I feel like the annihilation bear deserved to be higher on the list. Maybe not number one, but definitely higher than the babadook

When I was younger, around 9-10 (7-8 for my sister), my mom showed her and I "The Thing" from 2011. Although I prefer the original over the 2011 prequel now that i'm older, because I favour the practical effects and smart survivors, it was the scariest movie we had ever watched and it impacted us for a LONG time; but in more imaginative ways rather than harmful. It's definitely not as good as the original, but for nostalgia purposes I still really love that version. We didn't understand at the time that when they were checking each other's mouths, that they were looking for metal fillings on the teeth to find something inorganic, so we thought they were looking inside their mouth to see if it looked like an alien mouth (our theory back then was that it could only replicate what it saw, so it didn't know how to replicate the inside of a human mouth) and every night before bed we'd check each other's mouths to make sure neither of us were the thing lmao. We'd do that every night for about a year. Our parents are big movie enthusiasts and they certainly didn't give a shit on whether or not something is too scary for us when we were younger, so we were watching things like The Ring, the Alien movies, etc at a very young age. Lol my mom showed us The Ring like, a day before we went to stay at a kids camp for a week... we were hella terrified the entire time since there was a tv in the main building 💀

An American Werewolf in London. As a young man many years ago I watched this horrifying movie and saw the beast. It was a month of sweat inducing nightmares for me. Waking up screaming in the middle of the night. Mind you years later I stay far away from the movie but once in awhile I dance with the devil

The Marvel Universe has their own Wendigo which has fought Wolverine, the X-Men, Alpha Flight, the Hulk, and even Sabertooth (it happens in the Canadian wilderness after somebody eats other people).

I definitely agree with the dementors, not only by the fact that they are ominous hooded creatures but that they can suck all the happiness out of you. They may not seem that scary in the movies but if you saw one in real life it would definitely give you a scare

For me, Pumpkin head and The Unnameable were the scariest monsters ever. Also terrifying in theory more than execution, would be the gremlin creatures from the movie THEY. For anyone with a fear of the dark, they were nightmare fuel.

So glad The Fly made this list he is one of the top 5 best monsters ever put on film, he always gets overshadowed by Freddie,Jason and Chucky.

It was awesome watching the original Nosferatu around Halloween to celebrate its 100th anniversary. Still one of my favorite creep-out films, and the 1979 remake is also outstanding, but more so for being just so moody and eerie rather than just creepy.
