I loved charizard vs pickachu, the two icons of pokemon, trained by the two strongest trainers, under the classical pokemon intro.

Garchomp never lost that aura of menace even during her one onscreen defeat 15 years later. On top of taking a vicious blow from Sirfetch'd's Meteor Assault, Garchomp wasn't allowed to Mega Evolve AND she was only using Dragon type attacks, which Mega Lucario resists. A lesser Pokemon would have crumbled but despite all those disadvantages, Garchomp came VERY close to winning. Mega Lucario was shown falling onto one knee from exhaustion while Garchomp was still standing and had enough energy to launch herself across the battlefield. If not for Reversal, Ash absolutely would have lost. Even during the one time where Garchomp did Mega Evolve, I never felt like she needed to. It felt like Cynthia just did that to teach Iris a lesson. Cynthia always was a mentor to Iris and not holding back, even though Garchomp was perfectly capable of beating Haxorus without Mega Evolution, exemplified the power difference between them so that Iris had a better understanding of how much further she needed to go. It was a cruel to be kind moment since Garchomp was already matching Haxorus's Outrage blow for blow in her base form without even using her own Outrage. She never needed to pull out all the stops. Honestly, I think my favourite part of the whole Masters 8 arc was that Cynthia and Garchomp were treated with a reverence that Leon was never granted. Leon may not have lost a battle onscreen at that time but the writers made his victories look like bullshit by giving him outrageously lazy plot armour. Cynthia and Garchomp had much more thought and care put into their portrayals because the writers didn't exaggerate their power to a ludicrous degree. The Japanese version even gave them terrifying music which basically spelled doom for their opponents without relying on ridiculous feats like sweeping 4 of Diantha's Pokemon with Rillaboom or having Alain's Mega Charizard get bitchslapped by a normal Charizard. I will never forgive Journey's for either of those decisions but at least they took Cynthia and all but one of her Pokemon (fuck them for making Gastrodon look pathetic) seriously.

That wild Articuno made Nolan's Articuno look like a joke in comparison. Nolan's Articuno lost to Ash's Charizard even though it wasn't Mega Evolved, Gigantamaxed or the most powerful Charizard in the anime. This wild Articuno obliterated 12 Pokemon all by itself, including the most powerful Pikachu ever shown in any Pokemon media, never mind just the anime. Keep in mind that Pikachu already had an extensive track record of going toe to toe with Legendaries - he's knocked out no less than 3 of them in the past, although the battle with Tobias' Latios was a draw - but this Articuno swept him aside like he was nothing whilst dealing with 11 other Pokemon at the same time.

@@theartoonnerdologist411 Yeah the Anime is good, But once you get to a certain season you'll realize how much the appeal of the show dwendles in quality since the story pattern kept repeating. Hell that's why i quit watching after the Sun & Moon seasons of the series.

@@tigerlord9302 no it was Pokémon Forever that Ash died and Pikachu unleashed his full electric powers while in the first one of MewTwo Ash is turned into stone and MewTwo being stopped by Mew is forced to realize he was causing more harm than good to both humans and Pokémon
