When I was a kid I always thought Urkel had built the car himself because it never occurred to me a real car company would mass produce this on purpose
Of all the cars that are shown in this video, the BMW Isetta, AMC Gremlin, AMC Pacer, AMC Hugo and AMC Trunkov are also the villains from the 2011 Pixar film Cars 2
Haven't spotted an isetta but did spot an zündapp janus a car pretty similiar to the isetta. A car that was pretty bad and had an reason why it was called a "lemon"
@@Mustansirtaher6, the only problem with that claim is the fact that 99% of trucks on the road these days are never used for work, and are only utilized as glorified grocery getters, and nothing more.
It wouldn't surprise me if many of those crossover vehicles are designed that way to take advantage of loopholes in CAFE law in the US so they can be classified as "light trucks"...
I agree with you on that , it's like a fridge. Also it was hit with a recall as well. Basically what happened, the plastic part that was glued to the gas padel was coming unstuck from it. Also there was a video where someone showed it getting stuck. That's dangerous.
Lists like this, more than almost anything, prove the old adage that beauty is in the eye of the beholder. There are at least five cars on this list that I thought were great-looking, mainly because they did NOT try to conform to the standard that everyone expects. I love the Gremlin. I love the Cube. I love the VW Thing. If it weren't a Chrysler product, I would want a PT Cruiser. If I ever find a Suzuki X-90 in decent shape, I'm going to buy it. I currently own a Nissan Juke. I wanted one from the moment I first saw one, and bought a good, used one three years ago. I put about 15,000 miles on it in those three years, and I drove it on the round trip from Pittsburgh to Myrtle Beach twice. It was comfortable, reliable, and FAST. It turns heads everywhere I take it, and in a good way.
The Type 181 "Thing" was actually based off the Kubelwagen, a German military vehicle similar to the Jeep. They also had an amphibious model named the Schvimwagen.
After the AMC Gremlin, I was sure to see the AMC Pacer. Its design was very weird, but I loved mine. I was still weird though. Common nicknames: "Bubble on Wheels", "Pregnant Rollerskate", etc.
Watchmojo, are you kidding me?? 20 ugliest cars?? Well for me some of these car design is not just awesome, but way too futuristic, ahead of its time should I say.
This entire episode just feels like junior high school level cool kid intimidation. "Have the same opinion as me right now, or I'm not going to like you anymore and I'll see to it that no one else likes you anymore either." Different strokes for different folks, guys.
My first car was an AMC Hornet, which was basically a Gremlin with four doors and a trunk; it was one heck of a car, and ran forever. I used to refer to its paint color as "Crest toothpaste green." It was a primitive little beast, but it got the job done.
Grandpa Munster (Al Lewis): Have you ever put a curse on the whole automobile? Henry J. Fregosi (Paul Reed): Only once. I assume you've heard of the Edsel? 😏
The Pontiac Aztek was once described as an SUV taking a dump, or something along those lines. Surprised the Ford Edsel didn't make this list. Its front looks like it's sucking a lemon while making a puckering face.
I remember seeing the Citicar advertised in Mechanics Illustrated magazine during the 1970's gas crisis. More recently, I saw a Citicar in front of a small computer repair shop in Florida with the words "company car" painted on it. Phil the Cat
The fact that any modern cars are good looking will always shock me. They are designed in such a weird, piecemeal manner. Some auto designers spend their whole careers only designing steering wheels, for example. Which is why the most sought-after job in car design is designing Hotwheels. It’s one of the few jobs where you get to design the whole car.
What’s ironic is I actually had a neighbor in the town that I was living in until about four years ago that actually had one of those little Citicars. Also I find it kind of silly that in this video they mentioned that the whole electric vehicle thing went back to the 70s. Actually electric vehicles go all the way back to pretty much the Genesis of the affordable car. In fact, some of the first first automobiles that weren’t powered by steam. Especially after electricity became widely available were electric. You can actually find photographs of electric cars from like 1905 and stuff like that in parking lots with large power cables attached to junction boxes allowing them to recharge. In fact, one hilarious thing is electric cars back then we’re actually a lot safer than ICE automobiles. Another thing. S-Cargo actually isn’t sold here in America. It is purely a car that is manufactured or was manufactured in Japan. It falls under the category of Kei-Car. Which is a category of subcompact basically that is meant specifically for the rather crowded streets of metropolitan Japan. Essentially what the device is is basically meant to be a small delivery van of sorts. I fully understand why everybody hates the juke. I don’t think I’ve met anybody who’s ever driven one that actually liked it. Also, I find it interesting that the Nissan cube is on the list but the scion XB isn’t. Now I actually have owned a scioN XB. And yes, it was a rolling box but I didn’t care. I also don’t really care that people don’t seem to like the cube. It may not be the prettiest car out there, but at the very least it tries something slightly different with that asymmetric rear window design. Because let’s face it 99% of the cars that come out today they all look the same The majority of them all have largely the same body design. And they essentially just look like they’re coming out of repeat molds. It’s kind of like somebody took the phrase quote to break the mold“ and basically decided to reverse that. Basically they took the broken mold and put it back together. So many cars, especially ones that have come out in probably the last 15 years have just been utterly terrible looking. we need to go back to automobiles that all had really unique designs and looks to them. Cars that actually could stand out without even trying. We need to go back to things like the El Camino. or the classic Chevy Impala. Or hell even the crown Victoria.
The Multipla was really horrible (in Italy we used to joke that if you got an accident against one of them, you would die not from the hit, but from a heart attack because of the sheer horror) but sold pretty well as a family car, having six seats and a lot of available fuel combinations suited for practically everyone (gasoline, diesel, gasoline/LPG, gasoline/CNG).
The BMW Isetta is actually an icon in Germany... it was made after WWII when cars were still a scarce commoditiy in devastated Germany. Also, the cute shape was somewhat an antidote to the aggressive style of Nazi era designs. The Isetta looked so modest and innocent...
I have never owned one of these cars, but I know someone who has owned a PT cruiser and it was a cute little car. I happen to like the Nissan cube, but that is just my opinion. Most of the cars on this list are hideous, but there are a couple that I would own, if had the opportunity
The New Model Honda Accord & Civil the original designs of the cars looked so normal & down to earth. Unfortunately they made the new model "More sporty" that makes them look more like a UFO on wheels.
The PT Crusier was intended to bring to mind the surf culture of the 60s eponymous ride, The Woody. And ugliest #1 should be Scion.....all models, imo.
The Tesla line in general and the Cybertruck in particular ring the bell in this line-up. The best of them makes the Rivian look good, and the Rivian makes the Aztek look good.
Once again, WatchMojo appears to have failed to do any research on some of these cars. A lot of them look the way they do, because they were designed for a specific purpose in order to meet particular restrictions. For example, all the Japanese manufacturers listed, are designing a car to fit around some of the narrowest streets and restricive parking regulations of Japan. They have to be short, narrow and tall, for them to give reasonable space inside to transport families and goods around. Of course they look 'crazy and ugly" to people more used to a huge 'ocean liners' of cars like those seen in the US.
The prowler the Aztec the Suzuki definitely ain’t ugly. Even the pt cruiser isn’t ugly just not for everyone. I was around in the 90s and early 2000s and nobody thought these cars were ugly matter of fact they all had a cool factor to them. Now the Juke is definitely ugly yet based on sales and how many are running around you wouldn’t think that. Chicks love their jagged bubbles. I tell you one car that is ugly af yet isn’t on this list cause it’s an icon. The original Bettle.
Both my parents said that was the ugliest car when they were teenagers. In fact one of them (I can’t remember which one) owned one with a door bolted shut on it. 🤣🤣🤣
I got more: Ugly Taillights Early 2000s Toyota Corolla Late 2000s Toyota Yaris Sedan Late 90s Chevy Malibu Ugly design 1995 Chevy Cavalier Sedan Pre facelift
If you give me one of those cars, I'll take them any time of day. Heck, I'll drive them as long as they have a working AC. If you don't want it because it's ugly, please give it to me 😅😅😅
