Vinesh Phogat - Indian Women's Wrestling No Nobody??? beat the defending Japanese Champ stunning them to go to bronze., also was very close to going to final except at the last moment disqualifed due to weight No nobody??
No one remembers PLopez and its sad. Americans dont appreciate wrestlers and wrestling and the amount of pain and sacrifice they endure. Lopez should have been the biggest story coming oit of the Olympics.
you forgot to include Kaylia Nemour the 17 year old gymnasts which was banned from French team just for her to switch to her orgins country Algeria and win the first gold medal for an African nation in the French Olympics
Nemour began competing for Algeria three years ago after a dispute between the French gymnastics federation and her club, Avoine-Beaumont, where she continues to train in western France.
What was special about? And stop spreading lies..she exclided herself, refusing to go to Paris, for training. That would have meant relocation or long time on the road. French officials decided to have one place for training and closed the one she was in
@@Elena-fe3osthey did that because her coach refused to join insep. no other host nation has done that. also they let melanie, a french team member, train in america alongside biles? how hyprocritical
Wait a second…!!….are you serious?!? No African nation has ever just medaled…at all?? Dude that’s both hilarious and sad as hell at the same time!!! 🤣 🥹
Very American perspective as expected but you guys should try and be more objective. For example the man from Cuba in wrestling that has won 5 gold straight while being 42 yo.
Nah it's a North American channel, its plenty of foreign channels that leave Americans out.....oh wait if it's not soccer, we're always near the top and the sports we aren't good at, aren't that popular
Mijain should have been on the list no doubt, but calling it an American perspective with only 2 Americans makes no sense lol. Especially when they are the face of their respective areas that are both extremely popular in sprinting and gymnastics
The athletes on the list are awesome but it would be nice if you added Carlos Yulo from the Philippines. He got Philippines the second and third gold ever in history for floor and vault gymnastics. He's amazing!
Remeber. First world woke bias channel. First world woke bias audience. I wanted mention of the cuban wrestler in 120kg category. I mean his fith gold medal in olimpycs. 20 years being #1 in his category.
As Indonesian, I agree, the Philippino athlete Carlos Yulo should have made the list. He is the first ASEAN person to win gold in white people's dominance. Congrats, Philippines!
@@many5an480what does “woke” have to do with anything on this list? I swear, the moment yall don’t like something, you throw the word “woke” around. What does that word mean, quickly? The majority of these athletes are from non-American. Is it woke because of that? Is it woke because Simone Biles is number one? The lot of you are useless individuals, I tell you.
@@MsDesperado30 I like Damir. But if he was better, Yusuf wouldn't be the one who is 1 million times more famous ;) I don't care about a medal from a lousy Olympics. Yusuf is a better shooter. He hits more accurately, 151 points. Damir 149
As I expected before even watching the video, 0 East Asian athletes. Japan and China had athletes with multiple Gold Medals and breaking world records with no mention at all.
The fact that Mijaín López, the first athlete to win five gold medals in six Olympic Games, is not given even a single honorable mention shows how biased this video is. If he were American, Watchmojo would be given him all the attention in the world, but since he is Cuban, he is ignored in the most vile way.
1st - 100% he should be on this list 2nd - what are you talking about biased? They’re were 3 Americans on a list of 20. They’re were 3 french athletes and multiple Australians, and a Canadian, and an egyptian, a Serbian……like it wasn’t a USA biased list.
The majority of the athletes on this list aren’t American. López hasn’t been mentioned in the same capacity as many of the athletes on this team on most world news outlets. That’s not a Watchmojo problem. That’s a global news problem.
@@SouthBayPoliticsAndMore-tt9zg "Mostly in sports few care about. " And yet Yusuf Dikec is on here. Also the "drug use" was cleared by Wada long ago and the swimmers here weren't part of that original batch. If you're gonna talk about doping, you may as well include US athletes Calestina Liu and Simone Biles on here(both caught doping and still allowed to compete)
China should just share what makes their athletes interesting, people try to know them but they are so boring its painful. Instead of only trying to be a gold robot try to be human too.
@@RuddFoxx i guess you don’t speak the language so you don’t understand or you only care about western media. but i’ve watched some of the interviews of the chinese athletes, some of them are so funny! people call quan hongchan (17yo diving gold medalist) the dive queen, she’d snap at reports if they ask inappropriate questions. there‘s 2 marriage proposals from china at the olympics after winning gold. the young chinese athlete biting the medal meme moment and so many more
No mention of Mijaín López winning his 5th consecutive gold medal, the first atlete in Olympic history to ever do that? No mention of Harrie "Hattrick" Lavreysen winning three gold medals on the cycling track (after already 2 gold and 1 bronze in Tokyo)? No mention of Teddy Riner, one of the greatest judoka of all time? No mention of either Femke Bol who more or less single handedly won the mixed relay and silver at the 4x100, nor of Sydney McLaughlin, who we all hoped would have an epic battle with Femke at the 400 hurdles, but just was in a league of her own with an amazing WR? No mention of Ethan Katzberg, who just was the coolest dude demolishing the competition? And no mention of Raygun, for being, well, Raygun?
@@WizardOfOss I want to add, also no mention of Alexandra Burghardt from Germany, who is only the 8th person ever to win a medal in both the summer and winter games, also only 2 years apart. She won silver in woman's 2 bobsleigh 2022 and now she won bronze with the woman's 4x100 m relay.
Mijian Lopez (Cuban Wrestler - 5th straight Gold Medal), Zheng Yufei ( Chinese Swimmer - 6 Olympic Medals), Femke Bol (Dutch Sprinter - 1Gold, 1Silver, 1Bronze), these are just some of the athletes that didn't get a mention on this video, shame on you WatchMojo, shame on YOU!😱🤬😡💩
As a Canadian, I couldn't be more proud of Summer McIntosh. Another Canadian that made me super proud this Olympics was Christa Deguchi, first ever Gold medal in Judo for Canada.
exactly! pathetic! No mention whatsover to Mijain Lopez. Nothing new, just as they always ignore the greatest medalist and Olympic champion because she is Soviet. Americans doing American things.
People agreeing with this post are delusional. She has wone 23 world championships - all around and specific apparatus. You don't have to like her but "literally" is factually incorrect.
What’s wrong with you guys ? Not including the wrestler who won his 5th gold at his 5th Olympics , no one has ever done this. Be fair with your ratings. If you want to be taken seriously , than take this seriously.
Not surprised at all that your focus is on USA, open your eyes, there are many other countries who should be mentioned here. South Africa, New Zealand, Cuba & Philippines to name a few.
Mijain lopez, the older gold medalist, 17 fights in Olimpics without receiving a point against him, the row ended in Paris when an adversary marked 1 point, the record in olimpics wrestling for having combats finished for superiority 8 points different, 5 times olimpics gold champion. Wrestling is not so popular but he is a remarkable fighter.
Why do you keep leaving off Mijaín López off these lists? Not even an honorable mention? The man is a wrestling and all-around Olympic legend. 5 golds in the same event 5 Olympics in a row, name one other person that has done that.
Mathias Gidsel for the Denmark mens handball team broke the record for most goals in an olympic tournament! He was named the MVP and helped Denmark to sweep the tournament in a historical dominant fashion!
Not a single mention of Jamaica's Roje Stona being the first non European to ever get gold in Discus...much more he broke the Olympic Record AND was coached by Ryan Crouser who got gold for shotput in the same Olympic year...not even a mention?
Dame Lisa Carrington winning 3 golds for NZ? The Butcher? Lydia Ko winning her Gold to complete the set? The continuing epic record of the NZ womens sevens team?
I was wondering about this myself... But hey, our country was eliminated on the Olympic Games World map. France are such sore losers when it comes to rugby.😉🇳🇿
Without a doubt, #1 has to be Rachael 'Raygun' Gunn. The fact that she literally lead to breaking being excluded from next Olympics is a testament to her 'talents' 🤣
@@beaudure01controversials? They are all made up by the West especially the western media to undermine the achievements made by the Chinese athletes in beating them.
As a Norwegian, I would like to highlight some of my fellow Norwegians. 1. Katrine Lunde, a handball keeper who won her 3rd Olympic gold medal. She is 44 years old. 2. Markus Rooth, the 22 years old won Olympic gold medal in decathlon. 3. Solfrid Konanda, won an Olympic gold medal in weightlifting. The last time a Norwegian won that was in 1972.
Finally someone mentioning handball here , IOC wants to exempt it out of the Olympic games along with fencing , tabletennis ,pantathlon..etc. basically any sport that Americans wouldn't compete at !! I am Egyptian and Handball here is the second popular sport after football since our historic win in 1997 in Cairo ..I feel for you 🙏
I think I would add: Pan Zhanle that did world record in 100 freestyle and secured the gold in the 100X4 relay for china certainly deserves a spot, as well as Kaylia Nemour, Algeria with gold on the uneven bars and China's Zou Jingyuan on the parallel bars - both got amazing scores. and of course Femke Bol from the Netherland, that secured gold in the mixed 4X400 and silver in the women 4X400.
I would put Marchand at #1 ahead of Simone Biles. He's literally THE face for the entire nation of France for this Olympics and he won 4 individual gold medals vs Simone's 2 individual gold medals. He's also a fresh face for the Olympics and this is her 3rd Olympics.
this happens every Olympics some swimmer gets like 5 gold medals because they have so many events and they are like 100m-200m super easy to recover from.
Novak Djokovic. The Greatest Serbian Tennis Player Ever Notches His First Summer Olympics Gold Medal In The Men's Tennis Tournament Of The Paris 2024 Summer Olympics.
I know Wrestling doesn't get the love. 41 year old 5 golds Cuban Wrestler and retired on the spot. Also 5 time gold medalist American Skeet shooter. 5 golds in 6 Olympics. my Honorable mention would be the German Equestrian rider who has won gold medals from the 1992 olympics several in between and another this time around. 14 medals 8 golds for her.
@@GlennTheSadMarinersFan and the german that managed to win medals in both summer and winter games, also just 2 years apart (silver in woman's 2 bobsleigh and bronze in Paris with the woman's 4x100 m relay).
Everyone’s going to complain about their favorite athlete being left out - and yeah, I can see cases for Hocker, Carrington, SML, Curry, Amit Elor, several Chinese divers and table tennis players, Gabby Thomas, Keegan Palmer, Woojin Kim and Teddy Riner, but I didn’t see a single person on this list who isn’t also an extraordinary candidate for it.
ABSOLUTELY. There are too many great athletes to name on one short list. @christofferrossing6298 highlighted Norwegian athletes without any negativity. So, it can be done.
Mijain Lopez - Cuba, look him up. We may never see an athlete with that level of dominance again. First 5-time Olympic Gold medalist in any sport and you failed to mention him.
Lyles NOT having a clear win in the 100m and getting 3rd in his primary race, the 200m was shocking. I wouldn't describe it as his best performance. He was also, like other athletes sick or not feeling his best! Much of the world expected a different result. I was impressed with the winners from St. Lucia and Botswana!
Nikola Jokića led the whole Olympics in points, assissts and rebounds, barely losing against the team USA and the refs in the semi finals. Yet Wemby made the list, who was carried to the finals by the benevolent host of the Olympics. Oh well.
Here's an idea for a future video if you're interested: *Top ten weirdly good RU-vid animations. Basically RU-vid videos that are...questionable, but have admittedly good animations.*
you forget pan zhanle he really a hot topic during the 100 meter free style swimming ,he also broke his on world record too and quan hongchan for such a cealn diving at her age of 17
Sarah Sjöström winning both of the short track disciplines in freestyle swimming should be the equivalent of winning both the 100m. and 200m. sprint disciplines in track and field. I think it's noteworthy enough to be mentioned
So biased and one sided. Not a single mention of Germany's Alexandra Burghardt, who won bronze with the 4x100 m relay. That makes her only the 8th person to win a medal in both winter games and summer games ever, as she won silver only two years ago in woman's 2 bobsleighing. Probably no one except the german commentary mentioned this because they were too busy disecting the genetics of that one Boxer, just because her first match had a somewhat bad ending for her opponent.... Or making a big deal out of the dutch marathon runner that "dared" to wear a hijab at the victory ceremony. No one talks about the cuban wrestler who managed to win his 5th consecutive gold medal at olympic games. Also, I saw a lot, and I mean A LOT of content about the american "Pommel Horse Guy" who managed to secure the bronze medal in the men's all around for the team with his performance. Do better next time!
There were 2 Americans included who are the face of 2 of the most popular sports in the world. I think Mijain Lopez should have been on there, but there so many firsts and record breaking that there’s no way to include everyone on a list like this. Your own bias is showing worse than Watchmojo’s and they are usually the kings of bias😂😂
@@haileysampson2063 how is it my own bias when I say they didn't mention two of athletes that objectively made some of the biggest achievements of this games? 😂 Their achievements are more unforgettable than those of the boxer whose gender is debated or the american sprinter with the big mouth and even bigger ego... Or the dutch who wore a hijab on the podium. All of them will probably never achieve what those two did. It's a real shame those kind of achievements didn't get talked about nearly as much as Imane Khelif's private parts.
@@maritta2504 how is it bias to mention the greatest athletes in the history of their respective sports or first time gold medalists for their country lol. I’m saying there were so many great performances that some people are bound to be left off. I personally couldn’t care less if someone won bronze in a sport like bobsled bc very little people do bobsled lol
@@haileysampson2063 what an ignorant thing to say. There are a lot of people who care about that kind of sports, and to win medals in two different sports within two years is something really impressive. That you are now belitteling because ~*you*~ "don't care" for one of the sports in question. Or someone winning gold in 5 consecutive olympic games... That's something even Simone Biles probably will never achieve. She is already considered probably the greatest of her sports even prior to the games. A lot of people don't care for gymnastics, and can still acknowledge the incredible performances of Simone Biles. A lot of people also say swimmers are "cheating" the ranking because there are so many different competitions you can take part in. Completely belitteling the immense amount of dedication someone needs to be successful in that many disciplines. But I digress. The point is, some of the most impressive achievements of this games that will go down in sports history have been left out in favor of some that caused a bit if controversy. No one will remember them by the time the next games in LA come around.
Germany boring overrated selfish (thats the reason) the german television showing only german compititions (I know that becouse i am living in germany)
they forgot to add carlos yulo. he had like one of the best storyline comebacks and being also the gold medalist of the Phiilipines, his mom used to disown him and routed for japan instead but carlos proved his mom wrong, His storyline felt like a movie.
Am I just dreaming or did WatchMojo manage to list the top 20 athletes with literally ZERO Chinese athletes in it? (only one "honorable mention at the end")
You forgot several unforgettable athletes. You forgot Mijain Lopez, the first Olympic athlete to win 5 gold medals in a row for the same event (130k wrestling) and then retired after his gold-winning bout. You missed Ilona Maher, the woman who has become the face of women's rugby and has amassed a huge following on social media. You missed Sam Watson, an 18-year old speed climber who broke the world record twice during the Olympics (a record he set earlier in the year by the way). You missed Raygun, who is one of the most unforgettable Olympian personalities in decades. You missed Stephen Nedoroscik who came in for one event and lifted his team to a medal. There were so many incredible athletes that truly shone in Paris.
Mijain Lopez, the most important record in olympic history : winning 5 olympic golds consecutively in the same individual event (the only athlete to accomplish the feat, male or female, summer or winter)
