Jemma, you are amazing!! Everyone check out Jemma’s brand new single “Press Start” and while you’re at it give her Patreon a visit. Link in description!
Wait wait wait !!!!! Is pianote actually enbracing VGM !!? Please please do lessons catering to this amazing category. I'll buy a second lifetime membership 😀😅🎉
I just cant deal with Dire Dire Docks... To this day i just cant ! Cant stop from tearing up. My 4 year old daughter said "whats wrong dad?" I had NO good answer. What should i say? "Im 8 years old, im jumping into a painting and i fall down on a beach surrounded by water and a weird snake on a boat and im just loving the music and now 30 years later i still remember that feeling i got back then. Naaaaa 😂😢❤
I first discovered Jemma from her "Bloody Tears" cover a few years back. Awesome to see her featured here. "Dire Dire Docks" is probably my all-timer in terms of piano-specific VGM. Fantastic selection and performance!
Beautiful execution. Nice list too. I just missed any DKC's David Wise songs. It could be Stickerbush Symphony, Aquatic Ambience or basically the Main Theme.
My top five 5. Gusty garden galaxy from Mario galaxy 2 4. To make the end of battle from Ys 2 3. Eight melodies from Earthbound 2. Time’s scar from Chrono cross 1. Filmore from Actraiser
This is exactly why I wanted to start learning piano at 35. Final fantasy music at first, then just gaming in general. This video was so nostalgic for me, amazing playing! ❤️❤️ Edit: also love the coordination with the lights!
Seeing people play FFVII Aerith Theme and Those Who Fight on piano made me want to learn lol I only got up to Aerith theme tho. Those who fight is v hard
very iconic tracks with a few under the radar ones, good choice i still dream to see a medley like that with more tracks that people usually don't know about, for the OST connoiseurs. as an aspiring composer, most of my favourite tracks are usually ones that people don't know, like Sacred Distance from Kingdom Hearts Dream Drop Distance, or Servants of The Mountain from Final Fantasy X. There is so much beauty to be discovered, that i really wanna scream about it so more people get to know
Jemma's picks were delightful and fun! I hope one day we get to hear the tunes from Spyro on the piano. The drummer from the Police Stewart Copeland made the music of those games!
AWESOME! More Jemma! And doing her specialty :) edit to add: Dire Dire Docks is by far my favorite, and if anyone wants to hear the full thing, she has a complete version on her channel that is just the greatest video game music cover you've ever heard!!
Closest to a perfect top 20 I have ever seen! Here are my substitutions but they're close. Ducktales - Moon Theme instead of Super Mario 64 - Bob-Omb Battlefield Legend of Zelda - Gerudo Valley instead of LoZ - Lost Woods Donkey Kong Country - Either Aquatic Ambience or Stickerbrush Symphony instead of Super Mario World - Overworld Theme
Please put this on spotify, the entire 6:19 minutes of it. Something about cutting away from a nostalgic song onto another nostalgic song makes me happy.
Making a top 50 of the best is already difficult, top 20 then... You can be sure that at least 10 of them must be on everyone's list! Amazing video, THANK YOU!
I think Jemma is the most well rounded piano musician in modern times. She can play any style and make it sound flawless, even after adding her very own signature accents.
This was great! My favorite video game soundtrack will always be Ultima IV. I had an Atari ST with built in MIDI ports and a Yamaha DX7 connected to it. I had forgotten to turn it off when I went to play the game and I was floored to hear the soundtrack being played by the DX7 - the game would output MIDI if it was connected. This was 1986 and such quality of sound was unrivaled back then. I didn't hear anything that could even come close to that quality in a game until the Soundblaster AWE 32 was released in 1994.
Great video filled with great songs played beautifully! That being said for a top 20 list I would've included something a song by David Wise (DKC), another modern composer such as Lena Raine (Celeste), and sometimes from the Chrono Trigger soundtrack
Bro what I would give to have those skills to play piano. I want to cry every time I hear FFVII on piano. Everything else gives me nostalgia 100% but my favorite is anything Final Fantasy. It's crazy dude, she plays everything exactly the same 😭😭🙌🙌🥲🥲🫡🫡
I have so much to say but I can say this. Fantastic initiative of this channel to give video game music some light. When i vlicked the video, i wondered wich place fairy fountain would be. To the bitter end i thought i was going to be dissapointed but you finally played it and soooo beautiful. Amazing
Frank Tedesco is an amazing pianist here on youtube. You should invite him on next time. He has incredible "play it by ear" skills. Having said that, those of us who are subscribed to pianote are also subscribed to many other pianist RU-vidrs such as Frank, Marcus Veltri and Zach Hyde among others. It would be pretty cool to see some of our favorite RU-vidrs invited on pianote for different challenges. Granted, we love big time artists like Jemma Heigis and Jordan Rudess as well 😅.
So happy to see this video! Awesome list :) I am surprised that Zelda's Lullaby isn't here, but I totally understand as there's so many other Zelda/Nintendo songs on the list already haha!
Pretty good spread! I was hoping for P5’s Last Surprise, Mortal Kombat’s theme, and some DKC & MGS, but trying to file down VGM’s greatest into just 20 us no mean feat, and all those picked were definitely classics in their own right.
I really enjoyed this so much! I make music but can't really play the piano and am somewhat at a loss as to what to use to get better. I would TOTALLY learn the Mario, Zelda and Wii Sports music you played here. Where did you get the arrangements? Or did you make them yourself?
Hi, Jemma, you playing this gamesongs so very nice on the Clavia NordStage4 (and other two keyboards (I think one is a synthesizer, and the second is a Midi-Workstation), it's exciting to look and hear your video upload here, it sounds so fascinating - I wish you just all the best and so much luck for a professional career on the music business! Let me say Woow! With kindly regards from Luxembourg, Europe, Marc
Dire Dire Docks was my jam. It was melancholic and sad yet pleasant. It really gets going when the beat comes in. Reminds me of some of the tracks on SMB3, like the cloud world.
There could have been an entire video just for Mega Man. 4, 6, and X have my favorite tracks. Absolute masterpieces. Diablo II has to be my favorite PC soundtrack of all time.
