Hi, love your video! I’m here to add a few more creatures from Romanian folklore to your complete list: iele, balaur, marțolea, muma padurii, solomonari, vâlve, zână, zburător. There are also a few local Romanian variations of the Irish fae: sânziană, spiriduş, sântoaderi. And unrelated to Romanian folklore, I think you also missed the skinwalkers?

My compliments for your work on this list of mythical beings! Well done! What I dislike a bit is the pronunciation of the names. I always have a dislike when names or words in other languages are pronounced in English. I know it would be even more work, but it would almost complete this great work! Also I miss in the written list where all the creatures are from. If these two things can be changed, I think you did more than a great job! But I enjoyed it non the less! To find the pictures that go with the creatures must have been an eye sore and the explanation too...well done!

VERY INFORMATIVE ABOUT DIFFERENT MYTHOLOGICAL BEASTS FROM ALL OVER THE WORLD, AND WHILE MANY WERE KNOWN TO ME, I ACTUALLY LEARNED ABOUT QUITE A FEW THAT I HAD NO IDEA EXISTED!! THEY SAY YOU CAN FIND OUT ALOT ABOUT A REGION AND IT'S PEOPLES CULTURE BY LEARNING THEIR MYTHS AND LEGENDS. YOU DID AN AWESOME JOB ON THIS! ALSO....THE MUSIC PLAYING WAS GIVING ME "LABYRINTH " (JIM HENSON MOVIE, 1980S, DAVID BOWIE , GOBLIN KING AND OWL!) VIBES!! IT SOUNDED LIKE THE MAIN SONG FROM THE CREDITS!!

Interesting! I've learnt that the majority of mythological and folklore creatures are of European origin, very few of Asian origin and almost none from the wider African continent, and definitely none at all from the Caribbean nor South Africa. Well done!

Filipino culture probably has more hideous mythological creatures than all other cultures combined. Japan has an absolute ton of different yokai which are all their own creatures. This video did a disservice by grouping yokai as one thing. That's like calling something a "monster" and leaving it at that.
@superdoran6396
@superdoran6396 Год назад
To add on to the game channel and correct a common misconception as well. The misconception that the Filipino culture generates the most monsters, gods, and demons throughout history. That's actually unsure, as recorded. There is only 500 in total. The Japanese yokai, for example, as he mentioned, had over 200 drawn and described by 1 man. Stating that there are countless yokai with multiple places into different categories. You also have Hinduism, which also states there to be "countless God's, spirits, demons, etc." In fact, your statement in general could not be more wrong. There's actually more eastern spirits, gods, demons, water monsters, ect, then in Western society as a whole throughout human history. And not to mention that a lot of these Western "myths" are clearly borrowed from Eastern culture. Some of the art styles included. In fact, it's not hard to miss that some of these monsters' faces looks already very Asian inspired. I can't say exactly why because youtube will get very angry at me, which is ironic because I come from Asian descent Japanese to be specific. It was also mentioned that there seems to be more myths in Western culture than African culture once again that's very untrue as like the Phillipines that sports over 200 ethnic groups that each have there own myths that number is still only 500 for them but for Africa its over 1,000. Not to mention that Muslim culture also has an almost insane amount of myths and almost a insane amount of "dasim" and "div" beings. Even believing in Muslim culture that a "spirit" may come outside your window at night and "curse" you or make demonic things occur in your household, with there even being steps to take to get rid of them. The simple fact is there are multiple cultures with countless beings I'm their cultures and religions. In fact, in some cultures, we don't even know what they believe because they refuse contact with the modern world, even going as far as to chuck spears and arrows into planes. There's even thought to be many that exist that the modern world simply doesn't know exist. Not to mention, the number of religions out there are in the thousands. The simple fact is I couldn't tell you who exactly has the most. I know who doesn't. If there's a number to them, a good rule of thumb is that it's not them. There's even myths and beings that aren't even well known from major religions. A good ex is in the Christian Bible Bible describes giants, people with swords for teeth, it describes nephilim, ect. Which is obviously not well known, or I guess you'd say "preached." But long story short, I can not even say who has the most as some cultures simply don't want to make contact, and some are unknown. It could easily be one of them.
@lemmypop1300
@lemmypop1300 Год назад
@@superdoran6396 Ahem. Western creatures are not 'borrowed' from, say, India simply because the two have the same source in the original Indo-European mythology. Sky father, mother Earth, giants, elemental spirits human-animal hybrids, animal amalgams etc. were all present in various European and Asian cultures from the start, cause they have the origin in the same culture. I also think that it's kinda pointless bitching about his exclusion of the creatures from other cultures simply because he's probably not that well informed in that regard, I mean, nobody can know everything. Plus, research and script would take so much time that I think it's truly unfair to blame him for some omissions. So I propose that you make a response video to this that will serve as it's continuation, and you should include creatures from all regions and cultures that were left out. Chop chop! PS: He barely skimmed the surface of the Greek mythology alone, let alone any of the other European cultures. Trust me, the world of European myth is vast and rich, you only know the surface level.

Slenderman, skinwalkers, as well as creatures like Champ that exist in lakes. Heck in my hometown we have reports of a smaller sea creature called Jasper that is reported to travel from Eldridge Lake to nearby Seneca Lake.

Well it's called a Loup Garou in France, which is basically a werewolf! Pretty interesting to see how the name itself changed in louisiana and was adapted to the culture there.

I notice you have a pic of Lovecraft's Cthulu for Charybdis. Just a curious question. Does anyone else think that the Greek Typhon bears any resemblence to Cthulu? I wonder if that was Howad's inspiration for his 'monstrosity?'

I'm from Philippines but I never heard of ekek 😅 I think what you mean is wak-wak or maybe the tik-tik which sounds the same as you describe. I don't know in other parts in the Philippines but in Davao (Mindanao) we do have a some legend about a bird like creature called kekik,kikik or kekek. Which also loves hunting pregnant woman at night. maybe that's what you mean.

Nice job! I feel like you missed a lot and included a lot of weird legendary beings and gods rather than "mythological creatures," but I enjoyed it none the less, your list had some mine didn't have, but here are some (I'm pretty sure) yours is missing: Angels Demons Barghest Boggle Brownie Changeling Cockatrice (how could you forget this one? You even included basilisk haha) Colossus (you said "automaton" and showed a picture of a colossus, automatons are real, simple clockwork devices) Doppleganger Drake Treefolk Ghast Hag Homunculi Mummy Nixie Oni Peryton (right? I'm not misremembering am I?) Rakshasa Roc Salamander Sea Goat Skinwalker Sphinx (right? I'm surprised you didn't have it so I feel like I'm misremembering with this one) Tengu Div Nephelim Troglodyte Blemmyes Clurichaun And my list gets a little more obscure from there, but these are definitely ones that belong in a list like this, IMO. Let me know if you actually did have some of these and I just forgot lol it's hard to juggle a huge list like this around in your head
