Before I say this, I like pokemon silver more than gold and notice how the thumbnail for 2001 shows a picture of pokemon silver only despite that year's best-selling game being a tie between Pokemon Silver and pokemon gold. Watch mojo must have put what they thought was the better game in the thumbnail! 😉
In 2000 my mother bought me pokemon silver for Christmas when I was a child. I never had played the pokemon games before that one but I was a big fan of the franchise and the show. Ever since then I became a big fan of the pokemon games and became a fan for life!
@@westwarmoore3535 The gold and silver remakes were amazing BUT the ONLY issue I had with them (and it's small) is the fact that they scrapped, Kris, the female character that you can play as that was introduced in crystal which was also the 1st ever playable female character in the core, main series pokemon games, and she should have been the female option in the remakes considering that she was in crystal but unfortunately she was absent and replaced with some *NEW* girl in a *REMAKE* (smh). If you ask me they didn't have a choice but to make her the playable female character in those remakes considering that that was, in addition to her being the female character from the original games, also a milestone for the pokemon franchise, the first ever female playable character in the main series, core games and that should be celebrated, so it's very strange how they didn't make it happen. Talk about a glaring omission, smh. I still don't understand the decision to this day! Like I said before, it's a small thing *BUT* , I didn't say this before: it means *SO MUCH*

@@Croat955 Cold War was the best cod game since bo3 y’all hated it cause people told you to, don’t even say mw2019 nobody liked it at launch and nobody liked it until like 5 months into the next cycle cause that’s how the cod community is
GTA Vice City was the first time I felt like I was playing a movie. Or even playing in a fully fledged other world. Absolutely Brilliant that game was for its time.
It truly was an amazing game. I was ten when I first played it and it left it's mark on me to this day. Vice City led me to Scarface and those both made me love anything 80s.
When I first booted up rdr2 my jaw was on the floor up in the mountains with your horse walking through the snow. And then Arthur and the greatest video game character in my book. Love that man
I agree I also caught that mistake. Nuketown was introduced in back ops 1. Modern warfare 2 had spec ops mode. I know because I played shit ton of that game. I had logged 28 days worth of playtime that's 28*24 hours 700 hours almost. It's sad because on cold war I spent a total of 20 hours of playtime. Older cods were magic.

6:32 I remember this game. I played the crap out of it on my ds. Couldn’t even complete the whole game since the final level was hard. Other games I played at lot on my ds were the cod games, and Mario kart
@@ryder7331 The DS era had plenty of games to buy and play. Even with the 3DS, companies were still selling DS titles. Third Party support was strong such as Square Enix, Activision, EA, Ubisoft, etc. It was the most game collection I had after PS2. Not even my Xbox 360, PS3/4, Switch combined matched my library.
Pokémon Gold & Sliver truly showed what Pokémon was capable on The Gameboy. You even got to play the Original Red, Blue, & Yellow versions if you played all the way through The Kanto league. So it was technically 4 Games in one.
The last of us, the legends of zelda series, batman arkham series and bloodborne, and dark souls and gofw franchise was best games for been a long years ago, I still love best for many years.
The entire 'open world' genre as well as Rockstar itself would be whole lotta different if vice city didn't do good. In a sense vice city is one of the turning points in gaming industry.
Just like Music and Films, a lot of the time the best selling games are overrated. It’s more of a marketing and promotion result than quality. But often great games do sell pretty well.
I remember back when app games were also starting to become very popular and they still are they’re just not being hyped as much as they were used to 10 years ago like Angry Birds I like Angry Birds every now and then but other people have moved on same thing with TempleRun or Subway Surfer for or bejeweled etc
@@gilbertmillers4865 Yeah I see what your saying. I would say that Android and iOS games have gotten alot better. Just waiting for them to come out with a full blown mobile game that is a actual single player experience
The fact that the GTA series will eventually sell more than all the children friendly Nintendo games is more impressive considering it’s M-rated and the Nintendo games had over a decade head start
Overrated trash and is multiplatform nothing special Nintendo games sell alot In one single platform far more impressive. Most of it's sales are from kids and casuals
@@Zlatan-Ibrahimovic442 fornite is trash like you and big boys? LMAO that's just stop being a thing 15 years ago. Only kids play GTA and mature games to be cool most adults play Nintendo games
In my opinion I feel like back when games were being sold the best time for them were like 2000 to 2015 I mean that’s the era I grew up in and in my opinion games aren’t as good as they used to be but everyone’s entitled to their own opinion and think different
Nice video, although I think you should show footage from the original games, not the remasters (GTA). Even more in a video about best selling games from each year, it's nice to see the graphics of the time and it's evolution.
Nuketown was introduced in black ops 1. I remember getting 110 kills on Nuketown calling chopper Gunner 3 times in a single game. I still remember that game. What a time I had playing zombies too. Newer cods just don't have this feeling. Now you have sbmm and sweaty lobbies. Earlier you played with randoms and you could get 50-100 kills if you were good every other game. Calling chopper Gunner and dogs every other game. Now I call high kill streaks 3-4 times a year. Major difference in fun and feeling. Older cods were magic.
I can't never ever objects that my most favorite 2 games which is GTA ad Call Of Duty is being listed as the most popular sold games. No.1 fan of these games. Two thumbs up 👍👍
Wown Takes me back. You just had to be there. Miss the feeling of the old games. Playing pokemon on de DS or gameboy advance in school with ur friends. Thosee were the simple goood dayss😢😄😄

Hey great list. Not enough to put in more like FFMQ, FF2(4), FF3(6), FF5, Star Ocean, Tales of Phantasia, Terranigma, Street Fighter 2 turbo, Battle Cars.
Rdr2 was my first game that i pre ordered in my entire life and i have not disappointed instead i was astonished and amazed and satisfied by my pre order. Btw I have been playing games since 2004
Holy shit, a WatchMojo list that's actually accurate. Maybe try sticking to videos with hard facts and stats backing up placement so y'all have more good videos like this
I would give anything to relive the year 2000. 9 year old me playing pokemon gold with my cousins . Hell we played gold silver and crystal up until ruby and sapphire and then played that. But the nostalgia I have for GSC is heart melting.
I had: Pokemon gold and silver, GTA Vice city, Pokemon Ruby and Sapphire, GTA San Andreas, wii sports, GTA V, Pokemon Sun & Moon, this makes me wanna get back into gaming .. been years since I've played the game
I'm so happy Red Dead 2 and Witcher 3 managed to sell so well. They deserve every penny. Amazing games. And also we have higher chance of getting more sequels
i remember my father and brother playing hundred laps race grabd turismo 4 where they need to off the tv but not the ps2 just to eat lunch then continue finishing the race
Sigh 😔 I miss the good all days of Pokémon, remember when that franchise wasn’t so complicated and wasn’t a cash grab, I really miss the good all days I’m sorry for whining but I don’t know it just doesn’t feel like things are good anymore💁
@@PeterGriffin11 honestly maybe it’s because I’m 23 and still young but in my opinion I just only like very few or certain new games nowadays like for example I love the super Mario Bros for the Nintendo switch I will admit it is good and yes I bought Pokémon brilliant diamond and shining pearl because of nostalgia and because I really remember when the originals came out I was like in third grade back then so I had to see if they were as good like their predecessors that were remakes before them and I actually enjoy it but again not every game is good some are kind of lame in my opinion💁
Pokemon gold and silver was amazing. Taking everything from gen 1 and upping it. All the different things, boats, tournaments, shops, all the things that varied depending upon if it was morning, afternoon, or night, and what day of the week it was, made it feel so real. A new, cool 100 pokemon with new hms and cool attack animations. And then don't forget gameboy color to gameboy color gift exchanges, everyone trying to unlock all the cool stuff for your bedroom. And then the ultra awesome battle against red
@@Liqhtmare not really, all best selling games are mostly fps games, also the gaming competetive media is all over fps, it provides most mechanical skills unlike others, and its also clearly my opinion
@@sirijanthakur Best selling doesn't generally mean the best in gaming. I've played many genres and I find fps the most generic and boring one. My point really is there really is no "best" part of gaming because of how vast of genres are there.
@@Liqhtmare well ur one of a kind, I find fps games extremely fun and desirable, youre never limited in it with in game mechanics, been more than a decade, also people genreally recommend games cuz they like it, and thats the most part it becomes “the best seller”, apreciate ur gesture but keep ur points to urself, debating over opinions is pointless
Is this list supposed to be the top selling game of that year, for the year it came out? Or the game from that year that went on to sell the most copies in total? If its the former then there are a few mistakes on this list... if its the latter then you should have clarified that in the video (your wording of "in their respective years" could go for either argument). Two examples: 2011: The game you list is Minecraft. In 2011 Minecraft only sold 4 million copies, but it has gone on to sell upwards of 200 million since. Whereas in 2011 Skyrim sold 22 million copies and its lifetime sales are up around 40 million. So for sales **IN** 2011 it would be Skyrim, but sales overall since it would be Minecraft. 2015: The game you list is Witcher 3. In 2015 Witcher 3 only sold 6 million copies, while Fallout 4 sold almost 14 million... however in the long run it was just announced that Witcher 3 has sold more than 50 million copies while Fallout 4 has only a bit over 30 million copies sold. So thats what I mean about the confusion: your list seems to be the game that went on to eventually sell the most copies all time, instead of the way the list was worded to be the game that sold the most units in each year.
Rdr2 has the BEST CAMPAIGN OF ALL TIME...ND ITS ONE OF THE ONLY GAMES THAT CAMPAIGN CAN WITHSTAND THE LENGTHS OF TIME.....THE CAMPAIGN IS SOOOOOOOOOO BEAUTIFUL ND I NEVER HAD PLAYED IT ONCE
I have over 5000 hours on black ops 1 alone. I played it for hours every and I mean every single day until gta 5 came out. Then I had to switch between them. But vice city and wii sports hit a nostalgic part of me that I miss so much. Damn
I'm a huge Witcher-fan and also Resident evil 🙏🏻 But Red dead redemption II is on a completely different level, it's a solid 11/10 in the grade in my opinion, If you have haven't played it yet, you have to play it to understand what I mean, trust me ❤🙏🏻❤
@@bulufataulu4707 there's a lot of flaws bothering me, the bad wanted level system, outdated game design, too much linear it didn't give you a bit freedom gameplay, clunky gameplay and there more i didn't mention

I've been gaming since coleco vision. The existence of minecraft and the fact that it has created millionaires for no reason makes me sad. The fact that so many people felt it was both necessary, and worth their time, to watch other people play it makes me feel for humanity.
When Vice City came out I sold my PS2 and got a GameCube and Resident Evil remake. I remember my brother taking me to the mall and there was this long line waiting for vice city's release. They took me in the store because I wasn't there for Vice city. People were looking at me like I was crazy for selling my PS2. I was a much bigger RE fan.
