Great vid mate, watched it a couple of times now. Especially appreciated your views on Oddworld. You totally get what that game is about. To be fair, I totally enjoyed most of your opinions and how utterly frank you put them across. Top job 🙂
I've seen many top lists, but this one really made me enjoy it more because you included a gaming experience you enjoyed with your mom. Just like me playing the Donkey Kong Country series with my dad, and Dr Robotniks Mean Bean Machine with both of my parents. The little things like that really give you a nostalgia overload.
I'm glad you enjoyed it those are always the best memories for sure they're like a time warp :). I'll never forget the time I had playing fighting games with my brother or playing desert strike and Nigel mansell's world championship racing with my dad and of course all the time I spent playing puzzle games with my mum.
epic and amazing video Jake, loved too many bits to jot down here! I'm glad you did a more unique list as everyone is different and love these games for their own reasons and that diversity in retro gaming is important, good stuff matey
Retrobution Retrobution cheers mate this video took me a good two weeks to do took way longer than I thought it would xD Yeah exactly I have a weird list that's for sure I'd love to see you do a snes top 10 some day
Retrobution that's the hardest bit about trying to get somewhere on RU-vid trying to not get disheartened but the way I look at it is if you give up you're never gonna get anywhere but if you keep going there's always still a chance
That's true. Trying to balance being a single dad with 2 kids and have a game show means if I choose to spend my limited spare time on this then I don't get to do anything else. Guess that's why I'm always thinking about it. But I still love doing it! Just wish the group and page would engage them more. You and a couple of others are the only ones who bother so cheers to you guys :]
at the end of the day you can only do what you can all things considered you get a load of videos out and they're all high quality love your stuff mate. no problem i'll always get involved when i can :)
I think yours is the first list I’ve seen to include Crash 2, Spyro 2, and Bust-A-Move 2, that’s awesome. I love all the first 3 Crash games, but if I could only ever play one again it would be 2, it’s the perfect Crash game. I love Warped too, but there’s too many vehicle levels (motorcycle/tiger/jet ski/plane), where 2 is almost entirely straight platforming. Same with Spyro 3, they throw a little too much into the mix where 2 was perfect. Also Bust-A-Move 2 is one of the best 2 player games ever IMO, so much fun to beat your friends, or mom haha.
I don't agree with this list, but I gave you a thumbs up anyway, the reason is: You made a list based on your experience with each one of these games, and not a list of "pre-made" best games. So, nicely done! I liked to see your list, and I found it very cool that you've included Digimon / Oddworld / Medieval 2 on it. Like someone said before, I think you are that kind of guy (like me) that would enjoy playing "Jade Cocoon". Its a game similar to Digimon / Pokemon but with an amazing different thing: You can fusion your catched "monsters". Give it a try! Jade Cocoon its a game that I'am still playing today (I'm trying to complete the game, because I never got the chance to, in the past) =)
i appreciate it :) i'm actually getting a copy of jade cocoon finally for christmas as weird as it is to be getting ps1 game for christmas in 2018 i'm really excited to play it after hearing all these good things about it sounds like i'm gonna love it.
exactly the reason i liked the video too. I've seen the pre made list, it's making me sick seeing the same games over and over but this dude , he gave legitimately his opinion in regards with the games. Cheers
I loved Jade cocoon story of Tamimyu when I discovered it one weekend when we rented it from Blockbuster when I was about 14, and I took it home and finish the game before time to take it back five days later!! I thought it was an awesome game! Great graphics too and good use of the pre-rendered backgrounds!
@@turismofoegaming8806 Wow in five days, that is a win! 4 years later after my inittial comment I still haven't finished it hahah (you took 5 days, maybe I will take 5 years :D)
Great video Please keep doing this, i love all the picks on the list and it was and it was a huge joy to see someone else enjoying their nostalgia as much as i do the bit with ur mom was gold, I had smile from start to end thanks for the 90s throwback :)
Awesome video with some incredible choices. I love Final Fantasy 7, 8 and 9 and as much as I love 9, 8 has always been my favourite! Never got into the DigiMon thing, so never played the game. I'll more than likely check it out though. Never heard of Monster Rancher. I'll hopefully get it next pay day!
Abe's Odyssey is one of the few games my whole family would (and more-importantly COULD) play when I was a kid and PS1 was still the top console. The "clunky" controls are part of the game. The movement is more-so like a 2D checker/chess board, compared to free-movement, but this is crucial to play certain aspects of the game. It's also gets a lot easier when you realize "Every time I tap left, Abe moves forward one block (unless he's rolling)." PLUS, if something went wrong and you didn't know what to do... you could just grab all of the triggers, and pray! "YoouuuuuuuouououuYoouuuuuuuouououuYoouuuuuuuouououuYoouuuuuuuouououuYoouuuuuuuouououu"
Happy to see Digimon World and Monster Rancher in someone's top 3! I would have also placed them there myself after the hundreds of hours spent on those games not only as a child but as an adult. I salute your taste in gaming, sir.
I was so stoked when I saw someone else listed Digimon World and Monster Rancher way up high. Digimon World is no.1 on my list though because I played it for much more than the latter
Great list, had some great times playing many of them, a few I recommend that are not on your list are: 1. Army men: land sea and air 2. Doom 3. Wu Tang - taste the pain 4. Medal of honour underground
I was trashing your list until you put Digimon World 1 in number two, and then I was like "ok, this man has taste, the rest of the list has been forgiven".
Tenchu stealth assassin, syphon filter, mortal kombat trilogy (the one that lets you play as all the secret, cybord, earth realm, ninja, nether realm, and boss characters present in ladders accross all previous games in ubdated sprites with complete movesets), resident evil 2, spyro reptars revenge, tekken 3, odd world, pacman world, ape escape, and this one game called Jumping Flash. I played alot of others, but those stick out.
Watching this video brings me back to my era of playing digimon world, monster rancher, final fantasies, tekken 3, bustamove and a whole bunch of other ps1 games from 5 am in the morning til night! Also, anyone remember Rugrats?
Got a PS1 when I was 11. One of the greatest consoles ever in my opinion. My absolutr favourite games were Resident evil 3 and 1, dino crisis 2, Silent hill, Megaman x5, Digimon world 1 and 3, FF8, Brave Femcer Musashi and Chrono Cross. Downloaded the ps1 app on my phone a couple of years back but there's just a different feeling when you're actually playing on the console.
22:55 You have amazing moment there, that I never had in my 33 years of my life. My mom was always busy at work back then, and top of that she got divorced while I was still 1 yo, so I also never get a chance to know how fun when you play a video games with a father. It's true that I've playing many games with my friends, but after looking this, sometimes I kinda want to experience this magical moment, at least once for my life.
I emulate and I’ve been looking for ps1 games for my RG35xxH handheld. This is the first video of yours I have found, but you have mentioned games, beer, and beer with video games, you and I are one of the same. Harder these days to find people who find these things enjoyable. P.S. the lemon monster you’re drinking with your mum is my favorite flavor right now 💯
I never actually played FF VII on the Playstation, just on the PC. I played FF IX on the Playstation 2 and still have my PS1 copy of the game. Both brilliant games. Edit: You're entitled to not have to like FF VII, nothing wrong with that. I'm just sad that you didn't get to enjoy the story like many of us did. Otherwise, carry on. FF IX is fantastic, so we can agree there.
Here is my favorite ps1 games 25. GTA 24. Loaded 23. Twisted metal 2 22. Driver 2 21. Gex 20. Disrupter 19. Final Fantasy Tactics 18. Tekken 2 17. Bushido blade 2 16. Oddworld abe's oddysee 15. Jumping flash 14. Dino crisis 13. Mega man x5 12. Mega man legends 11. Street fighter alpha 3 10. Crash bash 9. Resident evil 2 8. Crash team racing 7. Ogre battle 6. Strider 2 5. Castlevania Symphony of the night 4. Final Fantasy 7 3. Spyro the dragon 2. Crash bandicoot 3 1. Lunar silver star story complete
Oh man, crash bash. Love that game, but always want to collect everything, which is just downright maddening when it comes down to collecting relics against the absolutely unforgiving AI
mate you fucking rock! your number 1 n 2 were probably two of my faves. Pokemon was so popular at the time ( mainly because of portability) I think those two games had so much depth that a gameboy couldn't handle.
You were right about not many people having p.c in the 90s. Was born in 91 and I remember by 97, 98, only rich people had decent computers and internet. Only time I got to even see what the internet was all about was when I'd go to a buddy's house.
I was honestly sitting here watching this video and was trying to guess away from the obvious gems the ps1 had to offer in MGS and Silent Hill ...With you liking monster/creature themed type games I was hoping to find Jade Cocoon on somebody's list 😄 , hope you've played it...great game😃
I guess Akira Toriyama did character designs for quite a few games back in the day. I never realized at the time. I was just watching a let's play for chrono trigger and knew right away just from the designs in the intro he made them. He's very recognizable.
RTS is fun, but there are layers to it. If all you want is to have fun, build order only matters to beat the game. But if you want a challenge or be competitive you play it differently. That's why I love the remaster. It allows new players and novices to have fun with low difficulty and slow speeds, but gives seasoned players challenges with difficulty, game speed, achievements, and multiplayer. I feel like RTS is still got a lot to offer.
I love that you play bust a move with your mom that one of the only games I ever saw my mother playing that and cruising the world at a local pizza place
Heres my favorites Note i was a young adult when playstation 1 was king and had to work so missed out on a crap ton awesome games but hey im discovering them now that i actually have time to play 1. Gran turismo 2. Granturismo 2 3. Doom 4. Final doom 5. Castlevania chronicles 6. Muppet Monster mania 7. Jeopardy 8. Metal gear solid the VR. Missions 9. Special ops stealth patrol 10. pool (forgot the actual title name 11. Test drive off road 4 12. Dukes of Hazzard racing for home 13. Medal of honor 14. Not in particular order: Parasite Eve, Resident Evil 2, Castlevania: Symphony Of The Night, Tombi!, Team Buddies, Mega Man X4, Suikoden 2, Klonoa: Door To Phantomile, Tekken 3, Rayman, Bushido Blade, Dino Crisis 2, Kula World, Silent Hill, Crash Bandicoot 3: Warped, Metal Gear Solid, Blood Omen: Legacy Of Kain, Final Fantasy IX, Bomberman World, Medievil, Hogs Of War, Wipeout 3, Xenogears, Front Mission 3 and Spyro: Year Of Dragon
Pretty good list thinking about it now I should of probably included a wipeout game I love those games. And I really need to try team buddies literally all I know about it is it's ridiculously expensive to buy... I'll probably play it on a emulator xD.
I'm from the west coast of California born and raised right in he middle. I send my love and props! That Thug Life character woth the snoop Dogg and Dr Dre song had me dying lmfaooo
I went into a shop by myself to buy ff8 when I was 11 and the clerk told me he wouldn't allow me to buy it and he was doing me a favor because it was a betrayal to ff7. I came back the next day with my dad and he told the guy I could make up my own opinions about things. It's still my favorite one to this day with ff9 being a close second. People have been defensive about 7 since the day it released and will remain that way forever.
In the US calling the "super-n-e-s" the "snes or snez" out loud, or anything other than typing is slang for "i use this acronym instead of getting laid". Which is an almost identical slang term as your Micro Machine commentary of "when I invite my friends over for beer and video games".. technically that translates to " we left the bar about 9 p.m. to go home and play video games and drink more beer when it was apparent nobody was going to get lucky in our group"
I'm gonna be honest I've never actually bothered to play ff8 probably cause of all the bad stuff people say about it. But maybe I should finally give it a go it's been sitting on my shelf for ages xD
As a fellow Command and Conquer: Red Alert PS1-player (and cheater), here's a few of my favourites... Warzone 2100 - a post-apocalyptic strategy game where your bases and armies carry over from mission to mission. Circuit Breakers - a driving game that was probably a Micro Machines rip-off, but I never played those games, so I only just noticed that. Legacy of Kain: Soul Reaver - a dark fantasy adventure with some excellent, eloquent dialogue. Metal Gear Solid - probably doesn't need much explaining... Final Fantasy VII - also probably doesn't need much explaining... G-Police - a sci-fi piloting game, where you and your wingmen defend the domed cities of Callisto from crime syndicates and corrupt mega-corporations.
My mum used to play Beehive Bedlam which is basically a Bust-A-Move clone. She used to swear a lot while playing it too. Must be something about that game that triggers Tourette's syndrome in older women.
