@@JOHNNYREBEL1976 halogen is limited by it's technology, so in order to gain a whiter kelvin rating you sacrifice output greatly due to the blue coating. I would recommend checking out an LED conversion if you want a whiter colored bulb as well as a higher output beam. Just keep in mind that LED is best for halogen reflectors, and HID for halogen projectors, generally of course.

I swapped out the standard bulbs H1 and H7 in my 2007 Avensis for the new Osram Nightbreakers and subjectively they are 50% better with good quality light and a better spread. They were about £26 for the 4 bulbs. Well worth the upgrade and the ones removed are now spares.

Do you recommend an upgraded heavy duty harness with a direct lead to the battery? On older cars ( sealed beam headlights) installing a relay directly to the battery instead of a under sized wire running to the dashboard switch then back to the lights improves light out put by 100%....with newer reflector/projector headlights I don't know if this is necessary
@BulbFacts
@BulbFacts 4 года назад
Hi Michael, it is not necessary unless you are upgrading to a high wattage bulb, but even then we only recommend upgrading to a ceramic connector. A relay system is never a bad idea though as it takes the load off the stock wiring. Vehicles are built to withstand the stock wattage draw in their wiring, but we have seen some brands use a small gauge which causes issues.

Osram NBUs are indeed the brightest H7s I've put in my projectors, and distance is also great. If anyone thinks these performance halogens make no difference over stock longlife, you need new headlight assemblies altogether. Either that or get them restored.

Hey Sahadeva! The Philips XtremeVision 100% did quite well in our tests, however the OSRAM NB Ulimited and Sylvania Silverstar Ultras were even brighter. Most halogen bulbs will work well in bad weather, but the best would be an HID in a projector around 4500k. Hope that helps!

I am looking for the best quality H9 bulb to match either the Sylvania Silver Star Ultra or Osram. However I cant find an H9 that has comparable light out put. I would rather not mix and match if I don't have to. If I had to can you guide me to get choices for the best ones? Sylvania and Osram don't seem to offer anything but OEM replacement.
@BulbFacts
@BulbFacts 4 года назад
Hey Joseph. H9 is typically very limited unfortunately, but the bulb is very bright as a higher wattage (65W) and larger glass bulb compared to H11 (55W). There are a few upgrade choices though, like the Sylvania Silverstar, OSRAM CBB (whiter color), but they won't be too different otherwise compared to stock/OE. Here is our full test chart (based on a 55W bulb): www.bulbfacts.com/halogen-bulbs/chart/ You could also take a look at an LED conversion as well (www.bulbfacts.com/led-kits/chart/), but in a high beam the difference is smaller compared to a low beam LED upgrade. Hope that helps!

OEM's have lasted me 6 years. I have LED daytime lights so the bulbs are not used in day. They were just "okay" when new( didn't drive much highway) Now I am driving highway, can't see nothing, plus they are more yellow than white! Bought the Sylvania Ultra's. WHAT A HUGE DIFFERENCE!!! I had bad luck with the #1s before in last car so bought the Ultras at local store for convenience. I know I will need to change them much more often than OEM, but worth it bigtime! Only takes 10 min to change both. Thanks for reviews!!!
@BulbFacts
@BulbFacts 4 года назад
Thanks for sharing, great to hear! The Ultra's are really a great overall bulb, as they tested extremely well in all applications on our bench. You can expect about 50% of the lifespan from them, but it's well worth the trade-off in output and safety.

The OSRAM Night Breakers are not available for the 9007 bulbs. I've been quite pleased with the SYVANIA SilverStar Ultra bulbs. Much better then the OEM bulbs, and also better then the PHILLIPS Extreme bulbs. Seriously noticeable improvement. I like the very informative charts on your website.
@BulbFacts
@BulbFacts 4 года назад
Thanks! The Silverstar Ultra's are among the brightest, and while we recommended the OSRAM NBU's in this video, much newer tests prove the Ultra's are a bit brighter. Just keep in mind that you'll see about 50% of the life compared to an original bulb, but it's a trade-off worthy of the new output.

Currently I have H4 halogen it is very yellow and provides very unsafe max beam of about 30m under street lighting I can't tell me headlights are on. I have reflector style headlight what would be the #1 brightest halogeb replacement to date? Or is it easy enough to convert to LED?
@BulbFacts
@BulbFacts 4 года назад
Hi Brendan, it sounds like it may be an original or long-life bulb, which dim over time and are not the brightest to begin with. An upgraded halogen like a Sylvania Silverstar Ultra, etc. would certainly improve your output, but an LED would be a very large upgrade, and is easy to install. Just be sure to take a look at our recommendations, as there are some great products, and a lot mediocre products with a poor beam pattern. www.bulbfacts.com/led-kits/recommended/

BulbFacts Thank you for your interest in my question. Ring do a rallysport range of halogen h4 in varying outputs, as so do Osram and Philips. There may be other premium brand bulb manufacturers that can also supply higher wattage bulbs. A comparison of the different high/low beam patterns, output intensity, beam cutoff, light spread and hotspot areas would be interesting. I plan to use the bulbs off-road in an older style headlight with a patterned glass lens which creates the beam cutoff and I think many people would find it interesting to see the difference each bulb makes. Hi Rick! The Xtreme Vision's (both the 100 and 130%) were both great kits, and were both in the top 10 in fact (bulbfacts.com/halogen-bulbs/chart/). Thanks for watching and I hope that helps!
@baluesclues8929
@baluesclues8929 6 лет назад
In all reality, confirming that life question and your assertion would bulb require bulb knowledge and take hundreds of tests and a ton of statistical analysis - NOT lighting off several bulbs of each type and saying this lasted longer than that............ Of course a Philips XTV will last longer than the Osram lamps - they have thinner filaments and the European "Pictology" on every box tells the owner of the lamps that the lifetime is less than the OEM lamp - look at the words above the two clock pictures. Also note that Euro Regulation 37 caused the manufacturers to write "UP TO" XXX brighter vice "XXX Brighter" - Bulb Knowledge is King over Wild ass guesses.

what about lifespan on non DRL vehicles? i have a 2005 MDX and wanted to replace OEM's but want a good return on investment and dont want to replace every 1 to 2 years. any recommendations?
@BulbFacts
@BulbFacts 6 лет назад
Hi Marlon - We plan to do lifespan tests in the future, but if you don't have DRL's I would highly recommend an upgrade. It will depend then on how much you run your lights and drive at night of course, but on average you should get at least 3 years out of them. Just be careful not to touch the bulbs as that will dramatically shorten the lifespan as the oil from fingers heats them up more, just use rubbing alcohol to clean before installing. Hope that helps and thanks for watching!
@technicalnonsense
@technicalnonsense 6 лет назад
It’s better to measure the lifespan in terms of hours rather than days or years. I had a pair of philips xtreme vision halogen in car and they were great; however I noticed that they had started to dim around 250 hours of use and one burnt out at about 400 hours For some people that could be 2 years but with amount of driving I do plus the fact that I like to drive with my lights on during the day, the bulbs only lasted 7 months for me. In terms of lifespan I’ve found that philips bulb generally last a bit longer than the Osram counterpart
@BulbFacts
@BulbFacts 6 лет назад
Hi Philip - You are spot on. They are better rated in hours, however manufacturers typically use years as some people don't understand the hour ratings. We are working on life tests, but initial tests do show Philips lasting longer so far, which makes sense as the OSRAMs are the brightest, with less life.
@technicalnonsense
@technicalnonsense 6 лет назад
BulbFacts I defiantly agree with those statement I did some personal testing between the Philips Xtreme Vision to the Osram Night Breaker Unlimited and found that the Osram is indeed brighter and slightly more white but... this is just my subjective opinion , it seems that the Philips has a better beam pattern characteristic that puts more useable light on the road.
@BulbFacts
@BulbFacts 6 лет назад
Philip - That's great to hear. And we are actually also in the process of testing the surrounding light vs. just the peak brightness, so we will be adding those statistics to our website very soon. We want everybody to have the best lighting possible!

How about these vs LED? Which type is brighter overall? (especially in high beams as my factory lows are pretty incredible already)

Hi Stephen, LEDs will typically be brighter, especially in a low beam. High beam halogens can be of a higher wattage, sometimes beating out even the better LED models.
