Years ago, I lend someone in the bank line my Waterman fountain pen. She destroyed the nib just in signing the withdrawal slip. Never again will I lend any of my fountain pens to a stranger.

Wow that’s a next level of pen incompetence on her part. I am sorry for your Waterman :(

Yeah I’ve found that in the fountain pen world it’s pretty much decided that we don’t hand out FP’s to non FP users. Keep a cheap pen handy for that. With other pen friends it might be okay but non FP users push down hard because they’re used to ball points. Too many sad stories out there. My sister bent the nib on my Vanishing Point. So if hey ask say politely that you can’t. Plus one of the reasons I carry pens is so that I’m not sharing pens with others just as a good hygiene measure.
@BlankFirstPage
@BlankFirstPage Год назад
@@Roughdraft214 Yes I'm shocked at the number of bent nib stories I've heard now. I'm lucky I never got into that situation, I suspect because when someone has asked me for my fountain pen I've been so visibly nervous about it that they go source a pen somewhere else!
@michaelcohen1575
@michaelcohen1575 Год назад
@@Roughdraft214 I agree with all but one of your points. Let them find their own pen. And as you pointed out, I use my own for signing the visitor's diary at business places. I stay away from those ballpoints chained to the logbooks or some such.

The Pilot Petit1 is a fun pocket pen that can be turned into an eye dropper pen. For pure luxury I love an old Parker 51. I’ve used Fine to Bold and they are like writing with butter. I’d never hand one of them to someone at work 😊. Just found you today and trying not to binge. You have a nice, easy speaking voice and you make me think! Best on your videos & most importantly best in your life.

I very much enjoyed seeing the frugal pen case. I make wooden pen and pencil cases from scraps and off-cuts, but the idea of a case or roll made from paper or material really appeals to me. Thanks for the thought!

This is a great list! One that I always carry in my purse/ bag is my Lamy 2000 rollerball pen. I find that also carrying around a basic “shit” pen is helpful for lending out should someone else need a pen. I learned my lesson when my husband accidentally ruined one of my nibs writing with it. Luckily the nib was easily, and cheaply, replaceable.

Thanks for watching! I love that you carry around the Lamy 2000, it's great to have good expensive pens and use them regularly. Terrible news about your fountain pen, but glad it was easily replaced - I feel like people may need to sign liability agreements before using someone else's fountain pen!

I used two layers of a fast food restaurant paper bag and made a pen case after seeing this vid, pausing to understand the design. It is indeed so crunchy and it makes me want to open it several times a day. What a fun project. Thanks for the inspo ✒️

My current daily pen is a Lamy Pico. My dad got one first for his everyday notetaking and I loved the design. It writes really well. I tried a Space Pen (due to the hype) but I honestly hated it: it didn't write smoothly at all. I also have a couple of Hightide Penco bullet pens which are great too.

For another pencil variant, I suggest a lead holder, also called a clutch pencil. The Koh-i-Noor 5608 is tiny, and couples very well with my Kaweco Copper Liliput fountain pen.

I just liked listening to you talk about your thoughts and ideas xD here's also a like a comment and sub for the algorithm. Thanks for sharing your thoughts! I've never really had a reason to be out and needing a pocket, but I have a tiny kaweco but i like using colors, so it wouldn't be completely useful for me to write on my skin haha, so I'll definitely need a black ink in a pocket pen. I also think I'd never use any thing outside a kaweco as a pocket pen since they're made of plastic that I'd be OK with it being ruined. As for EDC pens, I would definitely want to carry 3-4 pens in a nice comfy but protective roll like yours or a case inside another bag. Gotta protect those pens!
@BlankFirstPage
@BlankFirstPage Год назад
Thanks for the comment, sub and for watching! Those kawecos are great pocket pens, although I have found mine to be a little inconsistent with the ink flow, think it’s a bit of a dud pen. Good point about the plastic. The one I showed I had at the beach once and some sand got into the cap and as I twisted the cap off, the sand scratched up the inside of the pen. It has a bit of character now :)

Good selections, i definitely agree on the pocket pen and regular pen. I tend not to use pencils too much, but to each their own! I would also recommend checking out the Pokka Pens and Liliput fountain pens as an alternative pocket option. If you like brass pens, I would also suggest checking out the Machine Era Classic brass pen. Fits a Pilot G2 or Pentel Energel refill, which are excellent writers and fits somewhere between a pocket and more full sized pen.

That was great! I came to see your video after @cobwebsandcatnip suggested you. I bought my pen case but I ended up making the insert because I couldn’t find anything suitable. It’s fun and rewarding making your own things. I love my TWSBI 580. I also have a Kaweco but wouldn’t say it’s my favourite. I was going through your list and I have many of the suggestions but never thought to put them together as my EDC. I’ve seen a multipen I’d like to buy and it includes a mechanical pencil. You’ve just convinced me to buy it lol

as far as mechanical pencil goes - most are too accustomed to the default 0.5mm but mechanical pencil can be had with as slim as 0.2mm but also common are 0.3mm , 0.7mm , 0.9mm where the latter write perfectly align as a standard wooden pencil do ( pending you put in the proper grade of graphite ) and while it may be harder to find there are 1.3mm , 2.0mm , 2.5mm , 3.0mm , 4.0mm mechanical pencil , usually found in Art Supply instead of stationary store , my EDC pen case had 3/4 pocket and I routinely put in it a fountain pen, a mechanical pencil ( usually 0.9mm ) , a Gel pen and a Oil based / hybrid ink Ballpoint

I’ve got a Muji fountain pen too. Fantastic value for the price. The slim profile suits attaching to a notebook too. I’m fearful of keeping it in my pocket though in case it leaks(unlikely but always on my mind and I’ve had disasters with pocket fountain pens in the past)

Thank you! Very rarely use coloured inks - I love the idea of using them but always end up going for black - I do have a few more coloured inks (green, blue/black, and red) but they’ll normally only make an appearance for novelty purposes. Most of my pens are inked with black ink ready to go! I do have a couple of videos coming up where I try out some nice colourful inks.

Either you've been very lucky, or a lot of people who send me pens to repair are very, very unlucky. Leaving regular ink in a pen for too long can totally clog up the feed. Worse, mold can get in and make a huge mess. Carbon black is even worse. I know many inks contain a biocide, but I also know that I see mold growing in pens on a regular basis, and I see nibs clogged with old ink on a regular basis. Pens should be cleaned at LEAST every two months, and every month is what almost ever expert recommends. Some say every two weeks. I don't put pens in my pocket, ever. Not my pants pocket, not my shirt pocket, and not in my jacket pocket. I never have. If I did, I'd make sure they were in a pen case. I carry an EDC bag with everything I need in it. Notebook, pens, pencils, and usually a pocket watercolor set and a pocket graphite art set with a few sheets of paper for each. It's nice to make things, it really is, but I'll stick to what I can buy I do carry a couple of cheap gel pens, but I also carry a Visconti Homo Sapiens Bronze Age, a Scribo Feel, a Kaweco Brass Sport with a gold nib, and two or three or four other pens that I rotate. One of these is usually a TWSBI ECHO. I prefer the 580ALR, but the ECO ia an excellent pen, and cheap enough to give away should I find a chance to bring a newbie into the fold. I'm not fond of Blackwing pencils because of that silly eraser. It means the pencil won't fit in a pencil extender, so I want no part of it. I carry that small graphite art set with several woodcase pencils, and I carry a Pentel Orenz with 4B lead. The Orenz costs almost nothing, seven or eight dollars, I think, and it has an auto extend feature that can't be beat. Click once when you put in a new stick of lead, and you don't have to click again until the entire stick of lead is gone. And because no lead extends past the lead sleeve, lead never breaks, even when I use a 0.2mm pencil. I don't carry, or even own, a felt tip pen. I don't like them, and never found a good use for them. They bleed right through every type of paper I have. I hate that.
@BlankFirstPage
@BlankFirstPage Год назад
Thanks for watching! I’m a newbie into the mechanical pencil world. I’ve been thinking of getting a uni-ball kuru toga- sucked in by the rotating lead feature. Might get the Pentel you recommend too.
