Thousands of volunteers participated every day for 3+ weeks looking for him (including me). That campsite is located around 10,800' elevation, meaning the nighttime temperatures were freezing. I know the Bardsley family. They gave every ounce of energy they had to find Garrett, going day after day after day with almost no sleep. They wore themselves out for months. Fantastic family. My heart breaks for them.
Most likely a predator surprised him and dragged him off. Some predators usually go straight for the neck so he wouldn’t have had a chance to scream. Lack of blood could just be coincide. Sad story
I'm sorry to say this but, the father's story is very suspicious. A lake would be a very opportunistic spot to get rid of a body and it is very strange that on a large boy scout trip that they would be off fishing alone.
I'm so sorry you and the others weren't able to find him- I'm sure you all did as much as humanly possible. I feel so much for this family. I've lost a child myself- not like this, but I understand the horror and the grief of it. I'm thankful there are people like you out in the world that care enough to go to other people's aid- God Bless you for that.❤😊

I really hope Garrets dad is doing okay, I can’t imagine the guilt. It wasn’t his fault, and I hope the family gets some peace and finds out what happens one day.
This family is from my home town. I was in Jr High when it happened, and his brother was in my class. I didn't really know him, but I'll never forget seeing the grief on his face as he had to just keep living life without his brother. It was heartbreaking. He was one of those popular kids who was just super nice to everyone, and I hardly remember seeing him without a smile all through high school. I couldn't imagine having to recover from something like that.
Stories like Garrett's really terrify a parent. It makes you never want to even let your kids out of your sight and yet as a father I think I would have allowed my son of a similar age make such a short walk over the trail of 150 meters..and yet Garrett is gone. Horrifying.
Yes exactly. Its somethjng most fathers would allow their sons of that age to do. And normally there'd be no issue. Goes to show you just never know. And still, i dont think the father did anything wrong.
Usually in these cases there are unknown predators, like cougars, in the area. Without the correct safety training, and knowledge of the threat there is no way for the parent to know that at that specific moment they were being stalked by something and traveling alone is a death sentence
When I think of the places I went as I was growing up in the 60s, and without any fear or questions. If I was growing up today, my mother probably wouldn’t let me leave our yard!
nah 150 meters is roughly the length of a football field, plus another 60 yards. AND he has to walk back too. no way my kid is walking alone in the woods for that distance.
Mr Ballen, The Why Files, and Dr Grande keep me going.... They truly are a bright spot in my life. My husband has stage 4 metastatic prostate cancer, I lost my job of 9 years, I had to file Bankruptcy, our dog died, our son died and my mother in law died. All of these things happened within an 8 month period. Watching these videos is somehow soothing and takes my mind off of things. I'm truly grateful.

I still can't believe that people see someone alone on a marathon course at the top of the mountain and just leave him behind. What would it have hurt to wait a few minutes, 15 to 30 to make sure he was gonna make it down? Never fails to amaze me that people just abandon other people like that.
Exactly, there job should be to wait and make sure all get back safely from an event like this, or at least help lead/escort the last few stragglers back down. Hey, maybe even just keep an eye on him, being the only one left.
YES!!!!!!!! Amen!!! I click that *LIKE* button before even watching, because I KNOW I’m going to love it. Lol. Seeing he’s posted a new video just makes my day!
I've been buying camping gear all year and I'm finally stocked and ready to go camping. I couldn't wait for fall. After watching several videos like this, I've decided to wait until a group of us can go. Suddenly, single female solo camping doesn't sound like a good idea.
I contacted my daughter and daughter in law last night and they're going with me this time along with my teenage granddaughter. After watching the camping video and this one, my bravery at being a solo camping traveler soon vanished.
In Rosemary's case, as someone who's been on the edge of just trying to disappear, one way or another...sometimes you do ask for company, because you just need one person to be with you and keep you from falling off. The rejection, being told, even politely, "oh, no thank you." can be devastating at those times. So if you're so close and get told no, I think it's presumptuous to say, "no, she didn't go out and end it because she asked someone to go with her! Why would she do that if she was gonna just go off and die??". Maybe she was planning on going off and ending it, and someone else, especially someone who's young and not that judgmental, like a kid, was the string that was keeping her here. Taking a lunch is to keep up appearances that everything is OK, this is just a little hike, no need to worry! She did just try to talk to her dead husband...maybe she was trying to communicate that she'd be there soon. I wish that kid would've gone with her. I've been there, and I know that just one person is enough to change things. It's awful, and I'm so sorry for her and her family, but, honestly, mostly her. I've been there. I understand. I'm so sorry for her.
Ya that was my thoughts too she probably wanted them to go to keep her from doing somthing stupid but they didn't go so she did Altho it seems strange how they couldnt find any trace of her but a hair. so it could've been a bird or something. dogs not getting a scent is strange
I know this is old but thank you for saying this. I was looking for someone to acknowledge that she could’ve decided after being rejected by the boy. Since they found nothing but some hair, it’s possible she just decided to go be in the forest until whenever she ended up dying without actually ending it actively on that day. She could’ve jumped in a river and been swept away, or just walked and continued walking in nature until she couldn’t anymore.
@@unusualtomato5 a large bird picking them up and flying off like an eagle for example It's pretty common for birds to take people and things then fly off with them sometimes dropping them somewhere to kill and eat or just taking them to their nest for whatever reason It's been a while so don't really remember this but possibly coulda also been a cougar but I said dogs didn't smell and a good dog should be able to still pick up a sent if a cougar has them even if traveling in treetops
Garrett’s family lives just up the hill from me. I remember as a kid every year, on the anniversary of his disappearance, they would put together search groups and go look for him. They still go up their hopping to find something.
@@thebeasters because it's not your kid missing. I imagine his parents have woke up many nights and just want to go searching with flashlights in the middle of night. He's out there somewhere. They'd have to put me away sonewhere to keep me from searching for my boy in middle of night. How can I sleep when he's out there somewhere. I would need his remains, couldn't rest without them
In the deep woods of Michigan sometimes the forest stops. Everything gets quiet suddenly. When I was a kid exploring the wild when this happened I would feel the need to run. And I would run. Anyone who has spent time in those woods will tell you this.
Sometimes this can happen when a bigger predator is spotter so every other animal stay quite in order to be safe because most Bigger predators have a bad eye sight with no movement
Facts lol even today as an adult in the smoky mountains of nc when it gets quiet it’s time to go lol if the crickets and birds are scared you definitely should be aswell
Ima tell you a story that is true. Me and my brother were in the woods behind our house (we live in southeast Ohio not far from Athens) it was about 2 years ago so I'd say 2018. Well we were walking around like normal when the forest went fully silent like everything just died. Immediately me and my brother froze and I swear to God I felt like I was being watched (note my brother was looking to his left i was on his right) when everything went back to being full of sound we ran like we were gonna die im pretty sure adrenaline did kick in. Also only 2-3 months ago I went outside to get my dog when across a massive cornfield we have behind our house (the woods are around this field) i saw on the other side of the field so about 100-150 feet away maybe more I saw a set of glowing red eyes (I had no light on so it wasn't a reflection of a deer or something) i sat and watched them watch me while I was whisper screaming for my dog and when I looked away then back they were gone I rushed inside with my dog and told my mom she asked how far off the ground they were and I said from where I was it was an inch above the ground so about 8-9 feet.
I love how you describe all the people in your stories. You always use the best version of whoever they are. Kindest grandmother, most dedicated father, most friendly and giving kid. Never stupid, lazy, pompous. Thank you.
I used to live in Utah, about an hour drive from where Garrett went missing. Almost exactly 1 year later another boy scout went missing up in those mountains so rumors spread of it being some serial killer or something. I happened to go to boy scout camp days after the second boy disappeared so there were still searchers everywhere. Luckily they found the second boy alive after about a week.
He was found within 20 miles of where he disappeared, about a week later. It turned out, his parents drilled "stranger danger" into him to such a degree that he hid from search and rescue.
@@aidenstoat5745 I wonder, could that explain why a lot of missing children are never found? Everyone's like "They'd be able to hear the search and rescue team, why don't they call out or go to them?" but kids are always told stranger danger, and a lot aren't really at the point yet or taught when or not that rule should actually apply, so maybe the missing kids actually run from or hide from the search teams so they're never found
@@timetravelingpenguin yeah I’ve heard that either in this channel or elsewhere, from the people involved in search & rescue modelling, how children will more often than not be quite alarmed by groups of strangers shouting their name, and when it’s their own parents they’ll respond as if they’re “in trouble” and get small and quiet in order to avoid perceived repercussions. Somewhat tangentially, I remember being 4 or 5 and wiping out on a scooter while playing outside and later at supper just dealing with the bleeding cuts on my leg surreptitiously under the table rather than let an adult know because I “knew” I’d get in huge trouble for having an injury. Counter intuitive, probably, but I think around certain toddler ages you can easily confuse the experience of pain or getting lost with being out of order and therefore upsetting your guardians. I imagine that’s only amplified when lost in the woods and hearing your name yelled repeatedly by a ton of strangers.
The moment you start rewatching videos because you've worked your way through all of them. Let's have a moment of silence for this act of desperation..
YES! They are worth rewatching. I don't watch the claustrophobic , demon, gore or child/ animal abuser ones so I ran out sooner. I hope he does more history ones. Less scary more real. Fascinating ALL!
I have met Garrett’s dad before (Second story’s cases father). I was a boy scout that’s troop actually gave his father a memoriam to be placed at the location he went missing. I’ve talked to his father and have been shown the exact location he has gone missing and the fathers point of view of how it went down. It’s a true sad story.
@@hoodpriestessphilosophy7669 There is still no explanation. What Mr. Ballen said is still all the information that is known that i'm aware of. The memoriam we gave him was placed under water by the rock they were fishing on I believe. It was a couple years ago but i'm pretty sure thats where it was placed.
I worked in a grocery store where a bunch of men bought supplies for the search. Two counties away from where my store was. They went as volunteers for a week.

@Michael Schaller I saw that on that chapter I was pissed!! Some guy just trying to debunk paulides... Debunk.. The guy is trying to help or find out why so many ppl go missing. Thank god for Dave Paulides 💛
@Michael Schaller I couldn’t agree with you more. David Paulides deserves so much more recognition and love for what he does. There are So many unexplained disappearances in all of America’s forests that we’re lucky to have someone like Mr. Paulides that documents and try’s to make sense of all these crazy unexplainable and bizarre disappearances. David Paulides is definitely the man for doing this!
I seen Garrett's dad on oprah when it first happened. He thought he heard him scream dad a few minutes after he left but at the time thought he was hearing things. He felt very guilty for this. This man refused to leave that area for 6 months. It was so sad. I've always wondered if they ever found anything out. It doesn't look like it.
The government and forest park authorities know exactly what’s out there and what’s taking people. It’s kept compartmentalized, classified, sealed and tight lipped. David Paulides on more than one occasion has reached roadblocks with the park authorities and constantly giving him the run around. They don’t want anyone probing into this. Think about all the soldiers going MIA during war but are considered killed in action. It’s the same method. They classify it and never tell the families the truth. The same thing with missing people in deep forested areas. Its classified and many are simply told to shut up about it and to simply rule it as an “accident”. But the few folks who know the truth usually leak stuff out anonymously, but many people simply can’t handle it, and think it’s science fiction bullshit. I’m here to tell you it’s not. But in the end it’s up to the individual to discern for themselves.
@@Cr1ms0nRav3n yessssssss You are absolutely correct I wish we can figure out what it is I honestly think they have a secret rocks and fake trees that they snatch the people in
I've heard the story about Garret before. My former biology teacher is friends with Kevin, and told us about it, as an example of just how easy it is to get lost in the forest. It's weird to see it being told here, honestly. Not in a bad way, but it reminds me how small the world is.
"This group of boy scouts and their fathers were the only ones in the area that day." That simply can't be the case. As you well know from stories on this very channel. Sometimes people don't even know how many people are in a house... much less a wilderness spanning miles.
Right? No one being *reported* in the area doesn’t mean that no one *was* in the area. The kids or adults could have easily mentioned the trip to (or in front of) a teacher, a neighbor… anyone. And any one of those people could have been one of our country’s estimated 2,000 currently uncaught serial killers. No one (meaning a potential killer) had to be randomly wandering the woods- they could easily have planned the whole thing just off of the knowledge of where the troop was going to be camping. In fact, they could have surveyed the entire campsite before the trip even happened.
Could make sense though. Garret was in a place that if he screamed everyone would have heard him. Could be that, if he were abducted, it was someone he knew. A lot of predators like to join groups like the boyscouts because they get easy access to kids who think they're trustworthy because they've got a kid of their own. On the other hand, yeah. A lot of events like this are somewhat annual. All you'd have to do is sit and wait for an opening. Some kid is going to wander off at some point.
One of the fathers at the scouts who is trusted probably got him. Or the kids didn’t like him, so they picked on him, they did some accidental prank, and murked him… their scouts so they know how to bury him.
I am an adult and married with a daughter. And every night I get tucked in bed with headphones watching and listening stories by Mr. Ballen like a kid 😂😊

Very good story telling machine, the topic of 411 is extremely on the nobody has a clue what is going on , that cop who wrote the books, well he actually went or called the national park's where this is happening, they wouldn't give the list, 2 things why imo is the number us lot higher, or they know its happening and didn't want him to know the real number, but brought this park to court and they said we'll gladly give them to the cop who was asked if he wanted the list , then give the park a donation of 1.4million $$$ , could be trying to make a quick few$$$$s.... Or they're in on it, I just pray for everyone who went missing and never found, the families are in pain until they are found...
David Paulides is an idiot. Stay far away from the man as he claims all the disappearances are attributed to Sasquatch. Paulides is not a person to listen to.

10:15 -maybe he was abducted by someone that was attached to the actual scout pack. I am always amazed by how total psychos can blend into regular life situations.
Or some sicko knew that they would be camping there, maybe he was just watching waiting for one of the boys to separated from the group. I believe this sicko stole the child, but the child was smart and hid his sock as a way to show what detection the sicko had taken him. I believe if they continued away from the campsite, from where the sock was found, they would have found another sock. He was leaving a trail ...

That was a major failure on the part of the race timers to knowingly leave a racer out on the course. Major failure. And to then suggest waiting 90 minutes was Bad Advice. The family should’ve set off for him immediately.

Or had a wager in her head “if he comes with, I won’t do it, if he doesn’t, I’ll reunite with Bud”. People can fight for their health and walk into traffic with the same mentality.
It's actually a thing where people seem happy, more upbeat, even more social, right before they decide to end their life. as someone who has been through the planning phase, just having the plan actually helps you feel less depressed, and with some people that means motivation. It's why you need need need to be aware of suicidal people on new anti depressants, cuz that can give you the energy and motivation to kill yourself. sad to say, she probably was in that stage of relief cuz she'd decided. I concur. In hindsight, he was likely having heart trouble or something like that. He got disoriented, stumbled into the woods, and went the way of DB Cooper.
Funny how the timing crew was faster than the racer. Especially on the downhill side of the race. One would have thought that the crew would be watching him as he was ahead of them. Not the other way around. My guess is that he got turned around at the summit, and some how and went down the opposite side, and became lost.

My good friend’s girlfriend got lost at Stampede reservoir near Truckee, Ca. in 2013. He was 61, she was 50 at this time, They were geocaching on a kayak along the shore, the geocaches were designed to where you could get them from a kayak, however the water was so low it was about 50 to 100 feet from the water’s edge to the geocaches. Their kayak was a two person style so my friend would stay on the boat and send her up to grab the geocache and then she would come back to the boat, he decided it would be easier if she just went from one cache to the next while he followed on the bank of the lake. Well he gets to the next location and he cannot find her, he actually goes up to the geocache and sees that she had found it logged it and then disappeared. After about an hour he heads to camp and calls 911. Rangers, Sheriffs and volunteers began the search. She was found eight hours later 7 miles away walking on Highway 89 by a body recovery team member who was heading to help in what they assumed was recovery of her body from the lake. What happened is , she had found the geocache and then did not see my friend on the lake, so her best idea was to head off into the woods the opposite direction of the lake eventually she found a small trail that led to a dirt road that led to a bigger road which led her to Highway 89. My god, your boyfriend is on a kayak, on the lake and you can’t find him so you head into the woods...My reason for this story is it sometimes it is not impossible for people to get lost, especially when they’re young, not familiar with the outdoors or not that bright, as in her case.
What you may not realize, is that this is exactly how disappeared people disappear. Some people say they escape a strange environmental condition, no sound, no wind, gray sky, others constant sunlight. Walking in the opposite direction may have saved her, because I don't see how they could have lost site of each other. If casually questioned without ridicule, you might find out something.
Cougar still seems really viable for #2. They are known to stalk silently, and then knock their prey to the ground from the back, also going immediately for the neck. They are trying to keep them quiet so as to not attract others to steal their food (leopards are similar). Deer often have a distinctive facial wound from the lion forcing their face into the ground. Hits him from behind, possibly knocking the wind out of him, and then either gets the throat properly (no scream, very quick death) or holds his face down (muffled to no scream) until he suffocates. Wouldn't really be much of a struggle either, if they took him out clean like that. The sock was probably ferried by some other creature (nesting material, maybe thinking it's food for young). Not finding any of the other clothes or bones is weird, but not at all impossible.
The Utah story is fresh on my mind because Garrett’s father gave a speech to my young men’s group a few years back and it’s sad to see how hard they searched and still found nothing
This. there was more going on with this story if he was getting to the top after they were already torn down. Someone has to be last, but that is a hell of a time difference between him and the rest of the runners.
The second story is exactly why I freak out when I hear about or see my family members allowing their kids to walk off by themselves, even if the destination is a short distance. You never know if someone's been watching you and waiting for the right opportunity to steal your kids, if the kid will get a bee in their bonnet to go a different route, or in the case of nature if a predator is ready to stealthily take their next meal. I look silly for saying something, but it's better to be safe than sorry!
No. You are so right. I am one of those people who worry about every possible disastrous outcome that could happen to my daughter. It just floors me when I hear stories about children disappearing because their families are walking up or down a curvey trail with multiple kids and family members, and little Davey, having grown tired from the hike, had dawdled, out of sight of his family, behind a curve in the trail. I heard about a case like this quite a while ago, and the missing child was only five years old. Are these people really that stupid and unaware of their surroundings and of all the things that could happen to a five year who gets left behind, (even if only 15 feet behind) out of sight of his family? I've seen some really stupid, careless behavior by parentsr during the years when my daughter was little, but that one, hands down, was the worst example. Or a little kid is accidentally left at a playground because all the family members had assumed he was with one of the other members of his family. I was there at a playground with my daughter when this happened to a little boy of maybe two y/o, possibly younger, as he wasn't able to give the other parents or police any information. It took approximately an hour for anyone to come looking for him. It turned out that the family lived nearby and had walked to the park in a big group, splitting up later in the day because some of the younger kids were tired and needed a nap. That was the source of the confusion. People at the home assumed he was with his mom at the park, and she assumed he had gone home with the other kids and his dad. It just makes my head explode to think of the carelessness of many parents.
I keep hearing how people in “top physical shape” always succumb to some mysterious tragedy or illness in seemingly the prime of their life! I’m gonna drink a beer, skip the gym, and safely watch another video from home.
In reference to Garrett; he was a Boy Scout, not just some random kid in the woods. A fundamental part of scouting is teaching boys how to survive and navigate in the wilderness! The average Boy Scout has more survival skills than most adult men. If a Boy Scout disappears into thin air, expect foul play.
@@alexhunter6786 Well, then you wouldn't have made Eagle Scout back in the day. Cub Scouts and Webelos were learning basic survival skills when my brothers were in the scouts.
@@alexhunter6786 You are either the product of the politically correct, sensitive, 21st century eunuch scouts, or are simply a liar. My brothers had topo maps, lensatic compasses, and orienteering merit badges. If your troop was too busy teaching sensitivity classes instead, don't assume every other troop was.
@@christineshotton824 Your comeback is lame and idiotic. YOUR council may have taught some basic skills that was not part of the curriculum but it's more likely you are remembering wrong and/or making crap up.
I think Rosemary was trying to un-live herself. I think she had given herself an ultimatum. A lot of people do in these situations. If she asked the child to come with her and they did, it would be a sign to live. If they declined, then it would be a sign that she was doing the right thing.
It's also possible she asked him to come along, knowing that he'd say "no", just so that she could be alone to do as she planned, but not give any hint of what she was planning. I would've expected maybe drowning but if the lake wasn't that big then they would've found her body. Unless she found a tiny cave somewhere and hid there to die.
If it makes you feel any better when I first started watching him, I found it. I didn’t kno what I found so I let it go 🤦♀️ the FAME I could’ve achieved 😂
@@Pokedad76 why are y’all so defensive about gay people goddamn. Like y’all gotta defend them w y’all life. Idc if he gay💀 I swear gay ppl don’t even get offended by the jokes it be straight ppl defending it with they lives. Shut the fuck up
For real though. He is very articulate and he doesn't deviate from his normal voice.. I started watching him 8 days ago on random algorithm. Watched a few vids then subbed. After watching this video I will be all caught up lol.. I guess I'll start playing PS again and watch some sports. I wish there was 50 more to watch 😪
@@kickinwinghotboi883 The person who fell into a hole and slowly burned to death via steam (which, unlike boiling hot water, doesn't damage your nerves, so you feel every second of it). There was also the person who got locked in a giant tuna oven and slowly burned to death. There was also the "Nigerian death factory" where abducted prisoners were chained to a wall, and every now and then, a part of their body would be chopped off or taken out of their body, and then they'd be locked back up afterward, and this cycle would continue until they eventually died. There are countless other examples. Everyone loses loved ones. It's awful and painful, but it's nothing the average person doesn't eventually experience. We all know to expect it as a natural part of life. Being slowly tortured to death-especially by a sick psychopath who takes pleasure in your pain-is a whole different experience.
@@MayTheSchwartzBeWithYou Yeah this examples are definitely extremely painful physically, I'll give you that. And I'm sure there's plenty of emotional pain that accompanies said examples. But, the example I listed (losing a wife or child, or both), would, in my opinion, be much much more emotionally painful. You spend every day with those people, growing a very intense, strong bond with them. Making wonderful memories each day, and then tragedy strikes and they are taken away from you in an instant. No last "I love you", no last "goodbye". Nothing. You then have to return home alone, looking at the photos and toys left behind by the ones you loved the most and were most important to you. I lost my dad when I was 12 and that was by far the most emotionally painful thing I'd experienced up to that point. The second was me and my wife getting a divorce after being together for 15 years and the entire life that we had built and I thought would continue to build together suddenly didn't matter and I had to just let all of it go. I met her when I was 14 and she was 16. We grew up together, watching the other grow into an adult and being side by side literally every single day. That's just my take on the emotional pain. But like i said, what you listed would definitely, obviously be way more physically painful
I grew up in the Colorado mountains and I remember being as young as 7 and taking long walks into the woods in the summertime. Obviously nothing ever happened. I learned early how to follow trails, areas to avoid and be on the lookout for animals. I have no doubt Garrett was just as well versed, if not moreso. Whatever happened to that kid, it was beyond his control.
Perhaps! Rock slides buried him !!so sads it does happen!! Every now's as then as bigger men have as been s pined there to die !! So becarfuls out there's! This wild America after all's respect it's beauty thanks
really odd...if it had been MONTHS since she disappeared, it would make more sense...but after only a few DAYS you're finding lone clumps of hair?!! bad news.
@@jimbob465 Was gonna say, that's exactly how my dad grew up too lol, just him and his little sister for weeks at a time when Nanna would leave for like 2 weeks.

@@ghostdetective311 Ya alright? Did you know it's possible to express disagreement without implying someone's opinion is dumb or irrational? She's just minding her own business and then a rando pops up to imply she's a dingus. The incel vibes are v. strong on this one. Super Negman to the rescue! I don't even agree w/her and think the animal option is most credible, but I am SO tired of people getting their panties in a bunch over opinions and being condescending and/or pretentious about it. A la special snowflake. Yes, I'm sure your knowledge is very big. Congrats. It's those actions that don't come off as credible, at all. It does the exact opposite. We need more people to call out this kind of behavior and to sentence these types to 7 years of hard labor in Neg Jail on the sun. I found myself lost into darkness while hunting at age 13. I was armed with a rifle, but it was horrifying. I spent half the night in a tree getting rained upon. When I hear these stories, I FEEL the branches and the cold and the wet and the panic. Low hanging clouds illuminated over a nearby town roughly 4miles away. I made it while trudging through swamps and making a desperate pace. I can't conceive how some of these 411 survivers managed out there.
Don't know about them... BUT there's a fairly good set of priorities you can keep aware of... It's called the "Rule of 3's" ... AND It's roughly based on what an "average healthy human" can tolerate without medical intervention... 3 minutes without air 3 hours without shelter (as appropriate) 3 days without water 3 weeks without food... ...and just about 3 seconds of being stupid... (according to my last survival instructor) There's a lot else in the "wilderness skills" and "bushcraft" categories that can give you great advantages for getting at the things you need to make your way... BUT just knowing those priorities is enough to handle yourself for the basics... AND in spare time, even just in your back yard or a local community park, you CAN practice some (or all) of the wilderness and bushcraft skills that you'll find most useful... like fire handling, shelter and improvising comforts, tool craft, tinder, foraging and scrounging, and even some small-game hunting and fishing... give or take the permits... You don't have to be particularly avid or athletic to handle yourself for the basics of survival. Tool craft includes weapons, and while you won't be perfect with your first attempts, it's important to find a few basic types and build them now, when you don't depend on them, so you can start to understand what actually constitutes the build and use and care for each type you wish to learn... They don't have to be "perfect" anyway... just damn decent enough to be lethal with employed against the intended game... or fish... After that, your own competence will help with the top priority in a crisis. Never EVER panic. You can't think when you're too busy freaking right out. There's no point in having above average intellect or education and training if you lose access to it the moment you need it most. I've been a couple weeks in the wild, and only had some paracord, my kukri, and a mag-bar (firestarter)... and the clothes on my back... It wasn't easy, but I hiked to where I wanted to go, and dealt with the big question "What if I was all I had all of a sudden?" AND it can be fun. You just face each problem as it comes, and prioritize your activities for benefits based on your needs... It just starts with the Rule of 3's... ;o)
You know what’s weird, I’m on my third round of listening to all the Ballen stories on his channel, but only after reading your comment did I suddenly remember in a flash at least six incidents of being lost and alone without any supplies in some version of wilderness, staying up all night amidst downpour or freezing temps or laying neck-deep in puddles because it was better than facing icy howling wind, or the sounds of circling pack predators closing in - one time wrapping my whole body head to toe like the invisible man and laying on a bamboo platform above coconut husks I lit on fire to smoke out the thousands of mosquitoes who had marked me as a meal, then later finding a stream of water I drank from only to discover days later that this was the run-off from the local village’s effluence (and boy did I get ill). Hundreds of Ballen stories over the past two years, and somehow your comment unlocked half a dozen blocked memories 🤷♂️ Funny what the mind censors from you.
I've watched tons and still finding new ones, you must just of more than me, hope He always stays a few steps ahead of me. I think uploading 5,6 even 7 times a week would suit us all( 1 hour episodes).
It's not sasquatch all the time. It's something else a cloaking predator but it can feel pain which is why having a weapon is important in the woods. If you feel something is off then pull your weapon the thing that hunts you will think twice. What ever it is, it prefers unarmed prey
