Honestly this helped me out, I was realizing that while I was getting the college algebra the word problems have been rough going so I sat down and thought what could I do so I went to my friend Mr. RU-vid and looked up ways to help with word problems. Moral of the story kids is if you don't grasp things don't panic instead look for solutions.
I'm in Gr. 6 and I'm okay at math but SUPER bad at math problems. I wish math word problems would just tell me what they want me to do, if that makes sense. Thanks for trying to help us :)
hello! i’m a senior in high school and am about to graduate, but i first need to take my GAT and SAAT exams (the saudi exams needed to go to university.) math became one of my weaknesses since i skipped algebra 2 and jumped to pre-calculus, and dealt with a math teacher that only gave easy questions in tests to have us all pass. while i appreciate her helping us with our marks, my math skills worsened. now that i’m trying to relearn algebra 1, i’ve realized i’m quite bad with simple word problems, which is quite embarrassing for a senior... but your video helped out a lot! what i’m trying to say is i’m very grateful for this video, so thank you for providing struggling students all around the world with all this educational content you put out here for free! :)
Wish I had known these when I was a kid, I hated story problems in math. But they are still helpful. Even today. Doing something you •can* do, and knowing *how* to start gets rid of the stress and the "I don't know what to do" factor, so thank you.
Guess, check & Revise is a bad approach. It could be confusing. what about this? Emily has X Cards. So Sally would have 4*X = 4X cards. As given - X + 4X = 90 => 5X = 90 => X=18. Hence Sally has 4*18 = 72 Cards.

Hey Mr. Jacobson! Long time no see! I think from studying for Olympiads some strategies I might think might be a good influence for students later on is: Looking at smaller cases, looking for invariants (mono-variants), and learning the motivation behind problems. :)
What is a telethon? The part when it says " The Red Cross raises money in many different ways/ 2/3 of it is raised through their website, 1/5 of it is raised in person, and 1/6 from TELETHONS. How many times more money raised through their website than in person?" Did you mean telephones because I don't know if that is a word or you needed an autocorrect?????? Sir can you help me to this word problem? 2 motorcycles are 200kms. Apart starts to move towards each other. Motorcycle A runs at 45kph and motorcycle B runs at 50kph. At what time will they meet?
Thanks for this video but it's still hard for me to memorize these strategies. If I can't then I'll just put it on a piece of paper. Ps. I tried to solve every problem before you explained it. In the first problem, I somehow got 3 times. 2nd problem had none. 3rd problem I got 28.

I can solve math easily but when it comes to problem solving I go like " nahhh I don't like this" make me solve any number (fraction, decimals, big number etc.) just NOT word problems, the word problems given to us are so vague like it only has ONE given value then nothing.
They make us solve word problems without us even knowing what solution we should make, they're just like "okay! solve this and pass it tomorrow" they won't even give us just one ONE example--nothing! I like to cry right now cause I've been late in passing this for five dys already trying to figure out how to solve this shit It get vague and vague and more vague every single time they give us more word problems so FRUSTRATING!!!!
