Very pleased to announce the release of my new eBook, 'Row Your Fat Off!'. If you have just began using the rowing machine or recently purchased a machine for yourself, THIS is the ultimate guide to get you started in the right direction towards your fat loss goals! You can check it out from the link in the description box above! THANK YOU for all of your support!!
My friends have recently expressed interest in completing the Talisker Whiskey Challenge in 2021 and have asked me to be their team mate. I am fairly unfamiliar with rowing and have taken to watching your videos. I appreciate all of the information and will continue to watch as I begin my rowing journey.
Excellent, Mike! Really happy you can get something out of my videos. Good luck on your training! I'm sure with hard work and consistency you will develop into an AWESOME rower!
BEST piece of athletic equipment EVER! Bought my first - and only - C2 almost 20 years ago. I’m now a handful of months shy of my 70th birthday. A little chain oil now and again, plus daily windex wipe-downs after workouts, and my machine is good as the day it took up residence in my basement. I’ve swapped out the monitor a few times, not because one ever broke, but just because I wanted the features of the newest model. I’ve rowed so many millions of meters on my C2, I’ve lost count. It’s a member of the family. When I downsize into that condo, my C2 comes with me. BTW, love your videos! Keep ‘em coming!
Thanks Austin for the review! I have been wanting a Concept 2 for a couple years now and finally ordered one as a Christmas gift to myself. My black model D arrived 2 days ago. and I’m saving the excitement of opening it for Christmas Day. I’m glad you posted this video as it helps reaffirm I made the right decision dropping the dough to get it shipped to Canada!!
How exciting!! Props to you for controlling the urge to wait till Christmas! I can't wait to hear all about your rowing fitness journey once it begins!
Looking forward to seeing your ebook. I have over 2 million meters on my C2 and find that it is a great alternative to more aggressive sports like squash. I injured my knee playing squash and find that rowing is really therapeutic!
That is awesome, Lawrence! That is a lot of meters so far... glad that you have found rowing to be a great alternative for squash. I'm excited to launch the eBook! A couple more weeks!
First impression! Smooth and not noisy at all! You don't have to turn up your TV or music volume and you won't bother anyone in neighboring rooms or apartments! Very impressed so far!
For me the number one advantage for the Concept 2 is the standardization. I've had my own C2 for over 10 years, but I've rowed on probably 20 other C2s over the years at various gyms. Every single workout is recorded in my logbook, and I know that I can compare performance over time regardless of which machine I rowed on, and I can also compare to others my age to see how I'm doing over time. Another part of this is the C2 app, which automatically logs all data on the C2 online log. It's just the best for this purpose. Second is the durability. My C2 has been through multiple cross-country moves, in storage at times, and it still functions perfectly.
The standardization is seriously amazing! 100% agree with everything you've said here ... and I feel like this is one of the most important aspects to help keep people engaged with rowing long-term!
I enjoy your videos! I'm not entirely new to rowing, but I'm new to rowing properly. I had a cheap York hydraulic piston rower, and then I graduated to a magnetic resistance unit that I picked up at Sears for $150. I wasn't using proper form, by any means! I have been looking for the past couple of months at a variety of rowing options. I was torn between wanting to save money and wanting a quality rower. I bought a Concept 2 last week. It's awesome! The #1 reason to get a Concept 2 for me so far is the PM5 monitor, and the ability to track and record with the ErgData app and the online log. No other monitors come close to the PM5!
I just got my Concept 2 and I am trying ever so hard to stay off of it :-D It's been a while since I rowed, and I'm slowly getting back, but it's so fun :-)
I am 65 but in very good shape for my age. But I'm buying a Concept 2 very soon. Rowing is the best all round exercise there is, I believe. I will supplement it with my old Soloflex, which I've had since 1989. I have subscribed.
Thanks for making this video. I think I am going to join the waiting list for one, instead of buying a cheap model that isn't going to satisfy my needs.
I have owned a concept rower since the early 90's -- In the 1980's I was in the USMC - I have since competed a few times in the distant past on concpet 2 rowers and got 6th at the WORLD POLICE AND FIRE OLYMPICS and I used to do Triathlons as well ( I competed in 7 National Championships and 2 world championships games ). But now days I cant run and in 2016 I purchased a new BLACK CONCEPT 2 Rower -- My daughter is a College Track Athlete but right now she has a foot issue -- For Me I totally recommend a CONCEPT 2 rower above all others -- ITS THE BEST For my daughter -- She uses it right now to shape because she cant run with her foot problem -- ITS THE BEST ALL AROUND WORK OUT. I have used other types -- THEY ALL SUCK compared to a CONCEPT 2 Rower. I still have my old worn out CONCEPT 1 ROWER and I would rather use it any day over any other NEW rower EXCEPT the NEW CONCEPT 2 rowers
@@claudiacanales2662 I'm glad!! I hope you have some experience in rowing before you invest? Some people don't like rowing at all, I hope you do!!! The machine won't let you down, that's for sure.
I think you sold me - the noise is the one consideration but I think we can deal with that (we plan on using headphones to listen to books or podcasts or music etc) as it will be in the basement of our home.
I'm thinking about getting into rowing, this rower seems like a great investment, but my space is pretty tight. would love to store it vertically, any chance you could give the footprint when its leaned up? seeing a lot of your other videos on rowing, thanks for all the great details and thoroughness you cover. really nice getting these tips from someone whos so passionate about rowing!
I just purchased a Model C a few months back for $300, best investment I’ve ever made. I’m still excited about this upgrade to my home gym, I can now row in the comfort of my own home.
@@claudiacanales2662 Oh, I love it! Sadly, due to Covid-19 I am working too much lately (healthcare), so I don't have time for Concept 2 (or anything at all). I hope I will be able to return to a normal life soon.
@@sanjapisac8516 thanks for the reply. I’m considering getting one to junpstart me. I’ve been into fitness before but the pandemic took me completely out of my routine and I gained a lot if weight. I’m hoping this machine will create some excitement; enough to get me excited to get back on a routine. There is now the regular model and a model for taller legs. Do you have any issues with the seat being too low to the ground??
@@claudiacanales2662 Oh, it is definetely exciting. I never tried a better machine in my life. I'm 170 cm/52 kg so I don't think I need a longer version, and I don't have an experience with that. Training Tall knows that better! And I know the seat is low, I was also sceptical, but it is really great designed and I can just say that I highly recommend it to everyone!
Ok ok ok. As a newb to rowing who doesn’t want to spend that much money (but will to pay a bit more than the cheapest budget models) what’s a good mid tier machine that’s cheaper than concept2
I have one in Puerto Rico in the caribean, now am waiting this week for my christmass gift the C2 skierg and a have treadmil to, this rowing machine is amazing 💪🏻🚣🏼♂️🎅🏻🎄. I am a waterpolo and swimmer retired am in my 52 this rowing machine is very efective to stay in shape.
Like the info and videos bud. How about a quick and easy video on how to purchase, wire up and connect to get started digital rowing against people online? I just bought the Model D but struggle when it comes to software and hooking stuff up. My OS is Microsoft 7
If I was separating the machine in to two pieces everyday for storage would I wear out the 'separating'/'connecting' mechanism in any way? Great video!!
Quiet enough for late night use. I wish there was more resistance on the highest level. It doesn't really stress the body much if you are a stronger person.
Only thing I've found in my gym is sometimes the monitors dir. Irritating when going for a PB. Guess the batteries run down as it's being constantly used.
I have had my model D C2 since 2007. It has performed flawlessly since the day I bought it. My C2 is set up on sliders, which make the rowing action even more like that on being on a boat in the water. This really helps with maintaining proper technique. The only maintenance that I have had to do to date is oil the chain, once a month and once a year vacuum out the flywheel. Other than that, last year I upgraded my monitor to the PM5 from the PM4. This allows me to use the Erg app for the iPhone to run my workouts and sync them to C2’s online log. Everything is done wirelessly. I you may gather, I am very satisfied with my C2 and have no hesitation in recommending it to anyone who is seeking a fitness apparatus. The rower or erg, as they are referred to are excellent machines, as they not only help you to train cardio, but also help you to train for anaerobic fitness too, depending on your workouts. Also, training injuries are rare occurrences with these machines, especially if you take the time to learn the proper rowing technique, for which there are excellent videos on, as well as good support through the C2 website and rowing community.
Do you think 8.5’ will be enough clearance for me? I’m 5’11. Otherwise I will be forced to disassemble the machine after every use or look for an alternate rower.
Just watched your video and prior to that I was pretty much decided on one of these bad boy's but to be honest I'm going to have to start out with a second hand machine until I can afford a new one. Firstly can you advise me which model I should be looking for and secondly there seems to be quite a few different LCD display's that folk change over, should I be concerned about this. Finally what should I look out for in a used machine that could go wrong and would be likely to inhibit performance or end up being dangerous or costing lots of bucks to repair? Justin
I'm 63, and I bought a Concept 2 last March, because I injured my feet running every day on pavement. So far very happy. Only thing is, I'm thin, and the seat could be more comfortable. Something not mentioned is because the Concept 2 is so in demand, durable, and expensive, if you decide it's not for you, you can easily sell it for almost the purchase price, unlike most exercise equipment that sells second hand for pennies on the dollar.
Hey JDave! Thanks for dropping by! I am glad you're liking your rowing machine. I will do a review about seat pad options in the upcoming weeks to help you find a solution to the discomfort! Keep up the hard work!
Austin, I believe that Concept2 has an optional longer rail available for taller users. Have you ever had an issue with getting too close to the end of the rail? They say anyone with an inseam longer than 38" should get the longer rail. Your thoughts are appreciated.
I think the best part is the concept is affordable to repair. Once you pay for it 900 plus shipping and taxes. It won’t cost you much to maintain or even fix it.
I'm hoping to buy one of these, but I'm 61, not terribly strong and recently injured my wrists. I'm wondering if I will be able to handle assembling it and taking it apart occasionally in order to clean my living room floor. I am contemplating the model E because of troublesome knees. Also, both my physical therapist and orthopedist seem to think this would NOT be a good idea for my knees. My trouble is my kneecaps are aligning to the outside of my knee and giving pain. Yet I have been using the rower at the gym once or twice a week since summer and have not had a problem so far. But I'm worried that used daily, it might be? Your book sounds interesting, but would prefer to see it in a reflowable text format such as Kindle or ePub.
Thanks for reaching out, Cynthia! From my experience, most professionals have little experience using a rowing machine - every one has different body mechanics and if you seem to feel okay when rowing than I would say keep it up, but just be mindful of how your body changes or reacts day to day.
@@trainingtall Thank you! Have just made space in my living room. Unfortunately, my husband is affected by the U.S. government shutdown, until we know he'll be getting paid as he should, large purchases have to wait. We are hopeful though with the government being back in business for three weeks.
HEY! I tried looking through existing comments, but couldn't find this questions. I'm 6'3" and trying to decide if the standard size will work for me or if I need to buy the tall legs version. Thoughts? The difference is the seat size right? I go to OTF 6 days a week, and their water rowers fit me just fine. Will the "Standard Legs" work for me?
That will be covered in my new, upcoming eBook! It's specifically designed for those brand new to rowing and people that need to lose a considerable amount of weight!
Many thanks in general for your very informative and quite often inspiring videos. !!! I would like to confirm your reasons for buying a concept 2 and also add a few aspects, why I bought a concept 2 for myself being a non-pro/-competitive lay rower: 1. Independance from gym clubs or whatsoever and their usually somewhat limited opening hours. Working as a freelancer at the varying sites of my customers for most of the time, those clubs and their affinity to longterm contracts are not an option for me. I just like the option to drop out of bed and start the day with a short 15 minute rowing workout without having to dress for the public and to drive to some place. The concepts 2 fits even in the trunk of my tiny Hyundai Sirion (back seat folded down). 2. I simply love the feeling of acceleration during the drive phase. Over time I have tried all kinds of "torturing" machines at the gyms - to me most of them become pretty boring pretty soon as they offer little excitement in the movement. Not so the concept 2: I find myself working out more regularly through the experience of this burst of energy during the drive making even longer workouts more fun. ... can´t wait to see your ebook on burning fat:)
Thank you so so much for the kind words, hc n! I love that you find excitement in the acceleration of the stroke on the Concept 2! And how you find other rowing machines to be boring because they lack that "zroom" of the fan! Thanks again for your support and keep up the great work!
@@trainingtall well because of you, I'm going to be training with the rowing machine at my gym. I'm American but live in Portugal and need to do something with low impact. Cycling, rowing and swimming. I had a nasty foot infection and haven't been able to walk for 9 months and it's driving me nuts! Should be ready to go next month thankfully. So your videos are excellent for showing me the proper way to row. Thanks my man 👍🏼
My girlfriend just bought me a new stamina X air rower. And I love it. And this is coming from someone who uses a concept 2 at the gym. Similar but different. I get the same workout and sweat just as hard. But I do miss the fancy monitor
I bought a Taurus X Row. The machine is better than a Concept 2, but the computer is not as good as the PM5. I also looked at the Augletics Eight, it`s amazing, but to expensive for me 😥.
I'm a bit on the out of shape side and have been trying to find something that can help me stay in shape year-round. I used my university gym - then I graduated and moved Last winter, once I'd settled down, I started running - that lasted until the Georgia spring kicked in and we had 80F with high humidity. I joined a gym - then 2020 did its thing and gyms shut down for health reasons. I started looking into home fitness equipment and, after some light research, decided that a rowing machine would be a good choice for me. I've been on the Concept2 waiting list since mid-September and should be able to order a Model D in the next week or so! Videos like this have made me all the more confident about this investment in my health and fitness!
1:13 I love it lol. By the way, we ended up buying this rowing machine due to this video and additional research and LOVE it. Definitely the most fun I’ve ever had with exercise. Great video, funny and knowledgeable guy. Much appreciated 👍
it makes enough noise that you really have to blast the tv pretty loud if you try to watch tv while rowing. The neighbors might hear it, but if you use it at fairly normal times of day, I don't think it would be that much of a disturbance.
I’ve only used a skierg once a few years ago. I was just fooling around. There aren’t many gyms that have skiergs. Just CrossFit affiliates. I can’t afford a membership anymore.
i have a question: in this air machine when it work it produces a jet of air like a phone? bacause i have a little club and i dont want to have air run around people sweat on tapis or cyclette near rower
@@trainingtall thankyou very much for your quick answer. In water rower for a little club better A1 version or S4? I saw in some videos clubs or gym have A1, does it have a good durability? Does It works good? Thanks
Training Tall Did you ever do a video about apps on the C2? I haven’t bought a rower yet. I’m between the C2 and a NordicTrack since they have their iFit apps. I believe the C2 is probably better made, but I also think I’d benefit from apps to keep me engaged more. Ideally, there would be great apps for the C2 and that would make the decision for me.
@Como T 8% bf. Multiple age group champion. Consider the ‘shade’ sage advice kiddo. But of course punks like you think you invented the world you live in.
